Lots of white rice, I see.  Some people here go nuts, say its a terrible idea.  Others love it.

What's your take?  Essentially the same as brown, just more calories?  Or do you stress the whole GI thing?

To be honest I do a ton of cardio pre-contest almost too much.  I walk on a treadmill with a 10 incline at 3 mph some times 3 times a day for 45 minutes a clip so I like to eat the rice for energy.  I also like tuna sushi rolls and that is white rice so I like to keep it simple and keep the same foods going into my body.  When I switch to potato's, sweet potato's, oatmeal, etc. I get a super high metabolism and feel kinda sick and bloated so I just stick to the white rice.  Plus to be totally honest I love the taste of it more than any other form of carb and with Butter Buds on the rice you can't beat it.  In the end I do have to do the extra cardio though and I do cut back as the show gets closer.  I cut it back to only one cup a day the last two weeks or so depending on how I look.....

Joe.....try Jasmine rice with a little rice wine vinegar and a small amount of splenda mixed in.  Tastes like sushi rice.

A guy couple Tom and Kelly?? Ostrow (SP?) were running it for a while, and a guy named Jason (?) worked the front desk.

I have been trying to bring my chest up for quite a while now.  I seem to lose it when I diet.  It is usually full in the off-season and them I diet and it shrinks.  I have also been doing more fly movements to bring it up.  We will see what happens!
My back is getting better and better, I need to update my site to show my progress.  Chins, bent barbell rows, one arm rows, deadlifts......  Hardcore movements only.

Thank you Parker, Moosejay and jaejonna....

Drugfree4life, I will try that recepie on my next off day-thanks!!

East Lansing Powerhouse used to ROCK!  I didn't meet anyone their though.  I kept my headphones on.  I like to avoid drama.  That place was awesome though.  Love to go downstairs and eat sushi right after legs.....

Your look great man. A very complete physique.  As a fellow Michiganders I am proud.  I thought about seeing the show with a friend.   As far as the winters are concerned, they can be rough.  Driving in the snow sucks but fortunately I live right across the street from my gym.

I didn't work the Michigan prisons but I have friends who have and they tell me that essentially it's like some post-apocalyptic waste land where drugs and violence are rampant but I am sure a lot of prisons are like that.  I worked in military prisons which can house some real scum but I am unsure if they are comparable to a state penitentiary in terms of the type of scum they house.

Yes it is very tough I have to smuggle in my food makes me feel like a convict.  I had 30 packets of tuna fish confiscated by the inspector the other day.  They could give a crap about health and fitness.  Yes, Michigan prison is out of control.  I work in a mental max joint with the cutters.  They are chained to the bed and like to throw shit at us along with urine.  All of this makes my training that much better.  Ron Love is the man by the way.............

That is my diet year around as I eat very clean.  I add in tri-o-plex bars and Eas myo-plex shakes.  Usually two bars and two shakes a day.  What year were you runner up Mr. Palm Beach Michael I am having trouble finding your N.P.C stats?  Maybe you haven't competed yet, I don't know?  If not give it a try sometime you may find its not as easy as you might think besides how many great amateur's never even turned pro.  Winning an N.P.C show is a great feeling one I will Cherish the rest of my life.  I am blessed to have won on occasion.  Who knows maybe it will happen again.

P.S.

I am also not willing to do what it takes to be a top national level competitior so I am just helping local people with their diets and training through my web page.  I also have helped some local competitiors.  Bodybuilding is my passion and I do realize I am not Kevin Levrone, shawn ray, etc...  Update---I pulled my DVD's from the shelves at Wal-Mart, lol.......

He was the king of hurt feelings. He has destroyed all of the internet lies here on get big. 500 lb bench presses and things like that. He usually messed with newbs to see if they would weather the storm or melt like butter.

Thats too funny.  11 years working in a max prison my feelings have been hurt once or twice.  I see all this kids in tapout shirts and I'm like if they only knew the average con would one hit quit them, its kinda sad to be honest they all think they are fighters now a days.  I guess Mike was right everyone is a star now.  Its weird though even with all my time in a max joint it hard not to be sensitive at times...  I think my brain is all scar tissue now though.

P.S.

last year.................... .....year before that was 3rd
you wanna sell your "autographed pictures" and make a "training DVD" after winning thr "mr grand rapids" go right ahead lol
like i said with the advent of "you-tube" and "my-space" every girl thinks they are a "star" (singer, actress etc)
and with "300 dolla websites" and "you-tube" and "my-space" every local yokel bodybuilder thinks they are a "star"
*think Matt C and his four pages of "instructional workout videos" on you-tube*
my thought..............you might wanna place top 5 at nationals or maybe even turn pro before you start selling "autographed pics" and DVD's.

We call it getting "dressed out," in the joint and it sucks for sure.  I get sick of the smell of shit and piss.  I never realized until I got my job in the pen how many guys play with there own feces and what is this cutting stuff.

Good calves!

BTW-I lived in Lansing for a while, trained at Powerhouse East lansing across from MSU-you know anyone from that gym???

A guy couple Tom and Kelly?? Ostrow (SP?) were running it for a while, and a guy named Jason (?) worked the front desk.

Names ring a bell???

Was it Tom Ostrander? I know at one time he was fairly close to Jermey Freeman

dude you sound very defensive. so what if he hasn;t placed in the top 5 at a national show..he can;t have a physique that people would want to look attain or is it because he has a better build than you..i really don;t understand where you are coming from..

Hey 20inchcalves, koho and maxx thanks!  You guys would make good partners at my work, awesome backup.  I have sold a few but not really much came from it.  I meet Tom in 2005 when I won the Capital City show he was cool as hell.  I think he is in my gallery handing me my sword..

Anyone have the August 2008 Musclemag I guess I am in there, man I wish I had it....

Thanks again for all the comments!  I know I have work to do I just love to train...

Tom is in the white.  That is Justin Harris he was in flex magazine with Steve Kuclo a few months back training legs.  Hans Vandengraden the show promoter is the short thick dude.  He is a top five national middleweight competitor.  Maybe they have pics and DVD's, lolololol....  Tom is cool..

what's your training split look like?

If you're really natural, what do you think is the most beneficial way for a natural to train to add muscle?

IMAX damn bro...  nope!  Thats a real prison my friend!  Tell Killer Miller if you see him he's a dick.  Cop killer prick.

My training split is train everyday sometimes up to two weeks at a time.  Hard to believe I do well it is no lie.  I train one bodypart and 30 minutes cardio everyday.  On days I don't life (once every 10 days or so) I do 45 mins cardio on an empty stomach before breakfast.  Yes, thats the truth!  Weights seven days a week.  I know sometimes I am over training but for me its the only way to stray or get shredded..

Do you have a sluggish metabolism (normally) and that's why so much cardio? How much weight did you need to drop to get into contest shape? (sorry if this has already been asked).

No I never became a CO. I scored an 89 on the state entrance test but never took the classes. I only took the test because a friend  was taking the courses and he said to take it and just see how it went. Well he only scored a 64 and wasn't to happy with me and the friendship kinda went south after that. I instead went the factory rat route and took my chances with the presses and not getting crushed.

OH and yeah I've ran into Ken Wheeler a few times since I've been here.

Being a C.O. is a great job you should re-consider it.  If you see flex tell him he is the man for me.
