I think you are on to something there...glad I don't live there; I will never be rich.

Don't feel bad, that's pretty much every developed nation. I've talked with many broke asses who will seriously tell me how they will be buying some mansion and other such nonsense.

People that complain of the american standard of living need to spend 2 days in a second or 3rd world country..
they'll kiss the ground when they return >:(

Ahh, another person who has never lived in America trying to affirm himself on who can live here. I hate to break it to you, but a lot of middle-class Americans live comfortably here. Bitter that you're poor in Europe or Canada?
-

correct.
i'd live in the USA over any country in the world. Things are bleak at the moment, but remember in the 80s, it was the same mindset. In 1st grade we did nuke bomb drills where were went to the school's basement cafeteria and hid our heads under our hands. After all, we all know that covering your head prevents nuke fallout from hurting you. Our local newspaper - i remember to this DAY - in 1983 ran an article on "what would happen if a bomb hit..." and used a local bridge to show who would be killed in 5 miles, 10 miles, 15 miles... along with how fast you'd die, etc etc.
It was some serious fearmongering. We had MAD with russia, and there was no way they were going to trade nukes in 1983. But I bet Reagan was able to get $ for the other things he wanted to do then, under the guise of 'fighting communism so bombs don't hit bridges in your town.
So funny. I must have been in 2nd grade. I stared at that newspaper article for hours. I was so concerned. Why would they print that shit? lol...

Haha. I grew up in the USA; in its most important city.
I am quite happy that I am not going broke due to health insurance costs, thank you.
Another American wholly ignorant of the rest of the world. ::)

Hate to break it to you, but cities like London and other parts of Europe are more expensive to live in than America. :D

you said it yourself that you are having a hard time finding medical docs in s korea, didn't you?
I am quite happy that I am not going broke due to health insurance costs, thank you.
I pay 146 a month for great health insurance self-employed. It's not that bad here.

London is a very expensive city. Berlin is dirt cheap and fantastic.
If you live in the middle of nowhere in the midwest, then sure it's cheap but NYC is the most expensive city in North America and frankly, one of the few cities even worth living in the USA.
I didn't have to leave the USA. I chose to do so. Better work opportunities outside of the USA.
How often have you left the USA?

I did but after I found one I pay 50 bucks for sleep meds that I would pay 400 bucks for in the states.
S.Korea is a horrible example. It is a shithole. I am here to leech the money from these farmers and get the fuck out.
Western Europe is where I like to live; I am just on hiatus here. In 2 months time I'll be in the UK for a while.

Deicide, you're as gay as the band you're named after. Some of us like living here in America because, as PF said, we have it much better than many others.

I am not named after a band. It is a coincidence. My name has everything to do with my opposition to religion. Much better than many others; much better than Western Europeans?

This is no diss on anyone here, but most that are convinced there nation stands head and shoulders above the rest in standard of living have usually barely traveled. Even traveling to like 10 nations hardly helps, and some haven't even done that. It's not just an American thing, I've heard Australians, Brits, French, Mine and other rich islands here insist it. Normally they've never left their country and have zero clue. I've heard so many say daft things like their nation is best as they get a pension - FFS all developed nations do that ::)
All the first world is fab, offers great standard of living, just with differences. The free health in UK is great, US better weather. Free health and low crime in Oz is great, but US so much cheaper it's not a joke. We're tax free so economically it's great, but US/UK/Oz kill us on amenities. I could go on. Comes to preference really, and all 1st world people are lucky not to be in 2nd or 3rd and should not complain like Tox said.

So I've heard. An interesting place to have lived, what took you there if I may ask?
For some wacko reason in my youth I moved to a 2nd world nation for a year. My co-workers were under strict instructions if I got sick, get me on a plane do not take me to any hospital whatsoever, and I was serious. Interesting times, but quite brutal really.

To have lived. Haha, I am still stuck here on contract. I am done in less than 2 months though. Thank Zeus. Money. I am here for money and then these dirty ass farmers can rot away in their tiny little world for all I care.
Koreans are basically farmers with too much technology.

I am doing my best. I will be flying back to Germany where I lived for several years and relaxng for a while and then its on to the UK for further education. May Korea fuck itself; I hope I never have to come here again. I fucking hate this place.

So the reason you left and rag on America is you couldn't make enough money to live a decent life? Sucks for you. Perhaps you should have modeled yourself after the countless immigrants who came here with nothing and made a great life for themselves.
But it's probably better that people like you leave anyway.

No, idiot, I was living in Europe for 10 years before I came to Korea. I can save 20k a year here; I can't do that in Europe or in the USA. Can you? I am saving for my education Beach Buffoon.
-
I agree. :o
Says the bible thumping moron who never leaves his volcanic island. ::)

1st world people flock here to work and save money. As a tax haven for the extremely wealthy/companies, and you can envision how highly paid work is. No income tax, which appeals to them, even though many have some liabilty to their home nations. Americans get their first $85k waived, Brits pay only 1st year. Majority of people on these islands are foriegn workers actually, each island may only have 6,000 - 25,000 actual locals. As a local I am a rarity around here really. ;D

I've already called you a buffoon, so pick another word, Troll. The great thing about this country is you can work hard, save, invest, live below your means, and choose among 50 incredible states to homestead. Or you can cut and run if you're not smart enough and don't have the work ethic to make it work.
I am glad you are saving for your education. You need all the schooling you can get. Keep it up.

Its great, just like the USA, Canada and all 1st world but trust me, like all places we have our negatives. Do not misread me on that ;D
Shopping is worst. I'm in the USA 4/5 times a year to shop, which people unfamilar thinks sounds so 'cool', but gets annoying having to haul a flight to get a wide range of shopping selections. Not money, it's cheap to get there but hassle. Small price to pay I guess, like you guys taxes - we give and take, we can't have it all.

Bad shopping? lol. Stop the presses. lol . . . . :D I HATE shopping. Makes me nauseous.
Taxes are a killer on this island. State income taxes are high and we have a general excise tax.

Haha, I mean basic stuff you can't buy here. Island is so small, can't warrant selling more than the basics, not enough demand. [except for super expensive stuff for all the mega rich here]. Even like new curtains or sheets - forget it, unless you want some $2,000 a piece designer stuff. Um, no. My poor self jets to US and hits Bed, Bath & Beyond for the $80 buy ;D
My brother lives in US. He alternates between melting over taxes, and really appreciating all the amenities. Hawaii is still very nice though, I really liked it there.

Strange, but weird - we save money by flying.
The whole tax haven thing means Gov is loaded and subsides tons of things - our flights out being one. Cheaper to fly to US, then go to dinner, no joke. If I am getting a few things, I'll fly out early and return on a night flight, save hotel fees making it way cheap. It's only 90 mins to many east coast cities from here. I do shop online a tiny bit, but some things I'm not comfortable with. Like my new kitchen, obviously I shipped it anyway, but tossing out XX,XXX from a photo didn't really sit well with me. Suppose it looked sucky? I'd be stuck with it. Ew.
So yes, trust me, next time you hit a store think of me, and maybe you'll feel better about taxes ;D

Verrrry interesting. A 90 min. plane ride isn't that bad, but it does seem like a major inconvenience if the purpose is to shop for basic stuff. And if you have that typical island mentality, then taking a 90 minute plane ride is like driving across the country. Heck I complain about having to drive 10 miles to Wal-Mart. :)

correct.
i'd live in the USA over any country in the world. Things are bleak at the moment, but remember in the 80s, it was the same mindset.
I was beginning to think 240 you'd just love living in Canada, ...then I remembered your love affair with guns. ;D
...then I thought of how you were raised in Florida, ...and realized, our winters would just kick your ass ;D

That's how they do it. Instill the fear in you when you're young, ...so they can trigger it at will anytime in the future.
That's how they used to condition slaves. Only with slaves, ...they did it while the child was still in the womb. They would terrorize the pregnant woman, which went right to the fetus. It made it much easier to control the slaves once they were born.

Holy Cow 240!!!
I suppose it's all relative, ...but you just underscored a huge difference between life in the USA and elsewhere.
You think $146/month is reasonable, ...but as a Canadian, I'm appalled. To me that's absolutely exhorbitant.

CQ,
Have you ever done that last minute panic... where you discover you don't have enough room in your luggage for all your purchases, ...and there's no place or time to buy another suitcase before your plane leaves? :D
-

240 did not grow up in Florida wench. He moved there. If you weren't such a narcissist you may have paid greater attention to such details.

Yeah that's pretty whacked.
To what are you referring? ...my comment, ...or the extent to which women were terrorized?
A baby feels EVERYTHING it's mother feels. If the mother is traumatized, the baby will be too.
If the mother is calm and happy, her baby will be too. If the mother is anxious, so too will be the baby.
Until the baby is born, ...that's just simply how it works. They are one in that sense.

Many children are traumatized during a pregnancy. Even today.
But does that make them better slaves? does that make newborns easier to control?

how do you know this
People are born with a natural fear of only 2 things:
Falling and loud noises. Everything else is learned.
-
You're a retard; I pay only 3.3% tax and save 20k a year here. Cutting and running. Right. ::) What's your PhD in again?
Listen weirdo, cutting and running is exactly what you did. You should stay in whatever third world country will have you.
You save $20K a year? Wow. Am I supposed to be impressed? ::)
-
Just when I think you can't look any stupider. Hands down THE dumbest comment I've ever read.
Oh geeze. That makes my top five.
-
Many children are traumatized during a pregnancy. Even today.
But does that make them better slaves? does that make newborns easier to control?
As for whether that makes them better slaves, ...I couldn't say, ...but I will say it makes them far more susceptible to and motivated by fear.
I'm talking about physiology and the growing fetus. You CAN hardwire a brain to ensure certain signals or certain pathways are stronger than others. Just like any other muscle, ...if you exercise it, ...it becomes stronger. I am aware that many children are traumatized in utero, ...however, what I refer to is repeated systematic traumatization, ...not someone jumping out from behind a potted plant and yelling "Surprise" to a pregnant woman. I'm referring to nightly traumatization of a pregnant woman and by osmosis her offspring. A child raised in such an environment is going to have their neurons hardwired for fear.
I wasn't refering to control over newborns, ...if you can't control a newborn (except for crying), you got problems. I'm talking about the reptillian brain.
It's the same with languages. If you teach a child a language as an infant, he can go years without using it, may even forget 99.9% or even 100% of it, ...but re-introduce that language in later years and the child will pick it up much easier than if s/he were becoming familiar with it for the 1st time.
Look at a tree, ...the 1st branches that start to grow, ...over time, usually end up being the biggest and strongest branches. Well the pathways to the brain aren't really all that different. Granted, it's a very simplistic analogy, but it conveys my meaning.
-
If this was the case, this "fear mongering" would have been passed down through the black genes for centuries now and all blacks would be pretty much cowards and afraid of all whites straight out of the womb while being incredibly susceptible to fear tactics. This is not the case. It's ludicrous to think you can cultivate a child to be like that in fetus.
The reptilian brain, eh? You sharing the peace pipe with DaddyWaddy?
-
america is only the best place to be if you are super ambitious and pepetually status and money-driven, or are the benficiary of such a person. sure technically 'the sky is the limit' ::) but only if you are willing to work yourself to the bone to achieve it. it is a relentless and cutthroat place where you may one day attain lots of material wealth, but you will have sacrificed everything to get it. americans work more, stress more, and appreciate less than pretty much any other people on earth. i agree that western europe is probably the best place on earth overall. they really know how to relax and enjoy life over there. they may not accumulate as much personal wealth or have as much living space but they have far less stress, rigid moral/religious influenced nonsense, materialistic egotistic divided societies, and crime.
-

Hmmm... let's see Blacks imported to the US in the 16th century ...civil rights movement started to flourish when?
and all blacks would be pretty much cowards and afraid of all whites straight out of the womb while being incredibly susceptible to fear tactics.
Don't you think it's a little much to be speaking in absolutes. Not ALL slave masters employed these tactics.
This is not the case. It's ludicrous to think you can cultivate a child to be like that in fetus.
Just because you are unfamiliar with it, or have never heard of it before, doesn't make it ludicrous.
The reptilian brain, eh? You sharing the peace pipe with DaddyWaddy?
Who's Daddy Waddy? Is he that cute 6 footer who competed for Mr GetBig?

Easier to control makes them better.
If you wanted to make a comment free from any ties to slavery you say Babies who experience trauma during pregnancy often have development and psychological problems as they grow.
-
Listen weirdo, cutting and running is exactly what you did. You should stay in whatever third world country will have you.
You save $20K a year? Wow. Am I supposed to be impressed? ::)
For someone with an academic background in the social sciences/humanities, that is a lot. How much do you save a year Mr. Right Wing Fundy...
How many other countries have you visited before?; I repeat the question.
-
As for whether that makes them better slaves, ...I couldn't say, ...but I will say it makes them far more susceptible to and motivated by fear.
Jag, I suspect you know next to nothing about first language acquisition. Fortunately it is an area of knowledge I know a good deal about.
Your statement is silly, incoherent and just plain wrong.

people in italy or france or holland never snap and shoot up schools or shopping malls.

america is only the best place to be if you are super ambitious and pepetually status and money-driven, or are the benficiary of such a person. sure technically 'the sky is the limit' ::) but only if you are willing to work yourself to the bone to achieve it. it is a relentless and cutthroat place where you may one day attain lots of material wealth, but you will have sacrificed everything to get it. americans work more, stress more, and appreciate less than pretty much any other people on earth. i agree that western europe is probably the best place on earth overall. they really know how to relax and enjoy life over there. they may not accumulate as much personal wealth or have as much living space but they have far less stress, rigid moral/religious influenced nonsense, materialistic egotistic divided societies, and crime.
Exactly. Nothing beats sipping a coffee in a nice European city, relaxing, enjoying the architecture and shooting the shit. Americans don't do that because they have no time.

Another excellent point. If you look at the top 50 safest cities in the world, most are in Europe and NONE is in the USA.

European cities dominate the rankings of locations with the best quality of living, according to Mercer’s 2008 Quality of Living survey.
The survey also identified those cities with the highest personal safety ranking based on internal stability, effectiveness of law enforcement and relationships with other countries. Luxembourg was top, followed by Bern, Geneva, Helsinki and Zurich, all equally placed at number 2.

Not bad, not bad at all...

20k is good saving for one years' time. Of course, you should get that $ coverted to yen or euro or pesos or peanuts... it might be worth $1500 by the time you get to the UK.
I grew up in Ohio... i hate the cold. I love my guns. I'll wait for canada to come to us (Hi NAU!)

Nice; I wouldn't mind testing Sydney out for a year, provided of course I could get a visa. Thing is; Oceania just seems so cut off from the rest of the world.
-
Thats exactly what you suggested.
Easier to control makes them better.
Being easier to control, doesn't necessarily make for a better slave, ...it simply makes one easier to control.
It's like people...look at Bush. I'm sure Cheney or whoever it is that pulls his strings controls him quite easily.
Has it made him a better president?
If you wanted to make a comment free from any ties to slavery you say Babies who experience trauma during pregnancy often have development and psychological problems as they grow.
I wasn't looking to make a comment free from any ties to slavery. And I wasn't refering to developmental or psychological problems growing up. I was refering to a human being more susceptible to control and manipulation through their reptilian brain. This occurs across all races, ...however, ...during the era of slavery in America, the manipulation of children in utero was common practice.
-

Unless you travel a lot, i don't see how that could be a concern. Its not like we are sitting here acting all lonely and wishing we were closer to everyone else :D
Its good here. Most people who "test it out" end up staying.

Well..in Australia you only speak English; I like speaking many languages.

Boy is it ever. If you are a person who plans to sit around in one country 99% of the time and don't mind the insularity, high prices and reduction of amenities that remoteness breeds, it's a fantastic place to live. Crime like 4 times lower than the USA, far more attractive and cleaner place, friendly people, free health etc. And the crime is not a 'statistic' you 'feel' it when you are there, much safer place, same as you feel it here. Easily on par with US standard, if not above, depending on preference - like all 1st world.
-

yeah......well you would have to learn how to speak Australian. We are quite a multicultural country, but yes we do just pretty much speak English.
Its better than America anyway...

Australia is one of my favorites if I would move out of The Netherlands. I love the outdoors. Spending some time on the internet is fun to, but it's nothing compared to the outdoors. Any outdoor activity will suit me just fine. It exercises the body and it clears the mind. 8)

Exactly. Nothing beats sipping a coffee in a nice European city, relaxing, enjoying the architecture and shooting the shit. Americans don't do that because they have no time.
It seems to me that they are just busy all the time working and worrying about their careers, and all they have is 2 lousy weeks vacation a year. I have 8 weeks of payed vacation!! :D

LOL, I mean no offense btw. As I've said through the thread, all 1st world is great, it's all preference. You are missing out on crime for one.
The high pricing makes many amenties reduced obviously, international trips, as a female some of the 'beauty' treatments found in New York, London, Paris cannot be obtained, the health/sugar/fat free foods/drinks to start.
Not being rude, can I ask what American cities you have visited? Or did you just go to small towns there or so while you were there?

Well when i went there we went to all the touristy places, LA ,Las Vegas, Chicago. But we also went to some places that most international tourists probably don't go. My uncle was a professor at Ohio State Uni, so we went to Columbus to visit them, then we all drove to Indianapolous (sp), then flew to Orlando.
All nice places, don't get me wrong. And the country side of Ohio and stuff was very nice.
I guess we were a bit surprised as when we landed in LA and caught a shuttle to were we stayed in Hollywood (Renaissance Hotel, nice) we went the back streets to avoid the big traffic jams and the areas we passed through were slums, i can't think of anything other to call them. Even just driving through them, we felt uneasy. Its just funny as 30mins down the road is Beverly Hills, the most over the top place ever, yet here we are passing through the "ghetto"...
Nothing against America, it just didn't seem as "special" as most Americans make it out to be...

I feel you. The 'ambiance' of the USA in general cannot touch Australia in general, something anyone well traveled in both nations like you and I see. The whole safety thing, especially as female, felt very different. Very attractive cities, very. Your high level of socialism may cause some high taxes, but I assume there are some, but never saw a 'street person' once, nor any signs of anything like that. Both great nations though as are so many more, they all win some and lose some. All depends on preference.

Oh nooooooooooooo, not this again? I thought everyone knew I was a chick.Do I seem overly aggressive, barge through threads with my manly vibes? This is terrible, I need to work on this! :o ;D

Yes very true.
I love America. I just don't love Americans (and there seems to be a frightening amount of them) who are very narrow minded and swear by the whole "America shits on any other country" mentality.

Haha, yes, it does get old. Being from one of the 25 nations with no income tax, I normally hit those types with that. "Am I jealous of your tax?". No one but a rampant fool cannot admit zero tax is cool. If they persist I toss the free college out to kill them ;D
Unplaced arrogance, insularity and lack of knowledge about other nations blows. Most those types can't scrub up a few grand to travel internationally, hence why they have no clue. We have nowhere near the prevalence of it here, but have the occasional ass who thinks like that also. They embarrass me to be frank.

Of course.
The "god bless America crew" more often than not consists of lower to middle class Americans who have never left their home state, let alone the country. Even if they could afford it, they probably wouldn't travel. I mean, what does another country have that we don't? ::)
By the way, where do you live?

I'm from the Caribbean, but lived many places. Love my nation to death, but always interested in the world and love to see new places.

In fairness not zero tax, I do pay landowner tax and car tax. Like $500 a year combined, just breaks my pocket ;D

Actually, it's sliding. If I had an $80,000 car I would be stung royally. And as a local, I pay reduced landowner tax. Foriegn nationals are restricted to only buying the horrifically priced mansions, and they are burnt with tax.
Some could end up paying a prety high amount [XX,XXX], if they were non-local and had a mega expensive car.

I lived in Spain for many years (due to work) and I regreted having to come back to the states. First and foremost their "social package" is lightyears ahead of the US. You get sick, you go to the doctor and get operated on without having to pay a friggin dime. As far as quality of life goes... the working hours there are from 9AM until 2PM and then from 4 to 7PM, with two hours in between to eat and take a siesta. Restaurants are a bit cheaper than here in the USA, and the quality of the food is lightyears ahead than what we have here in the US.
Salary-wise, it's pretty much even, although, because of the euro-dollar being so high, they now make a lot more money than I was making back in 2002. If you get laid off from your company your life is taken care of (by the government) for about 1 year until you get another job. If you can't find another job, they put you through school in order to learn something else. Gas is now about the same as in the US, although utility bills tend to be a bit higher. Education is better than in the US.
Et cetera.
Like I said, when I made the decision to come back to the states I regreted it eventually. I came back to a country ruled by CEOs, church people, etc. In Europe they are a lot more social than in the states. You can pretty much walk into any bar and talk about any subject you want and people will talk to you eloquently and politely (unless you're talking about US foreign policy which they now hate... intensely) tell you their opinion on the matter. Here in the states, you walk into a bar and tell someone about Darfur and how fucked up that part of the world is and if it's a man you're talking to the first thing he'll think is that you're gay trying to pick him up and secondly he'll tell you that he hasn't seen that Star Trek episode. Let's face it, we're a nation of dumbasses who get dumber every day.
The difference between smart and dumb is that when you're dumb, you have no idea you're getting dumber unless someone tells you, whereas smart people get smarter, and need noone else to remind him/her.
Oh, before I forget, they get 1 month of vacation, have about 3 times as many annual holidays than in the US and they basically ENJOY LIFE.
-

there are two kinds of people in America. The rich and those who think they'll get rich.
You forgot the idiots who think that the government owes them everything
People who think being rich translates into being happy or secure
People who think America sucks but are too lazy to move out
You forgot about people who are in America Illegally in order to "better the lives of their families in Central and South America."
Don't be so narrow minded, you sound like that dictator in Venezuela who can't keep his country afloat.

This is a bodybuilding board, so thought I would mention this. USA is one of the *worst* nation to be an amateur in. They win a little plastic trophy. I think Canada sucks too, but I know most of the world is more lucrative.
Many nations you win from 42" plasmas, international trips, cars, cash up to $100,000 [yes I am serious], even crap like ipods/video cameras for placing as low as 5th [which is last in most cases lol].Tons of prizes on offer, hence why many amateurs don't take pro status. I've won more competing here, than some pro shows even offer as prizes. Never paid to travel internationally to compete in my life and actually turn a profit from competing. Pro level US is king, amateur level [99% of ppl] is not too hot financially for the Americans.

Thats funny! THe PRO's in Australia win Plastic trophys..PRO'S..and make them pay to compete..Fuck you Paul Graham
-
South Korea is a 2nd world dunghole.
Do you know what the term "2nd world" actually refers to? South Korea is certainly not a country that should be described as such ::)

No flame, but maybe they are plastic I don't know, but the pro show there they get $20,000 on top and many come from the USA all expenses paid, so I think the trophy is not their prime thing lol. Australian amateur feds, natty and non-tested, give some fairly decent stuff - large plasma TV's, trips to Europe/New York etc. Earlier this year both Australia and New Zealand had amateur shows that gave away $10,000 each.

Maybe you missed it then?
Last pro show in Australia was held in March 2008 in Melbourne and was won by Dexter Jackson, and he won $10,000 cash.
Melvin Anthony and Toney Freeman rounded up the rest of the cash. Check with Tony D, any bb website, even threads here if you doubt me.

no i dont doubt, just totally crossed my mind.

i'd live in the USA over any country in the world.
Out of interest, which other countries have you been to?
-
Do you know what the term "2nd world" actually refers to? South Korea is certainly not a country that should be described as such ::)
I don't apologise for using the term; farmers with too much technology on their hands and no knowledge of germ theory.
-

I went to niagra falls as a kid ;D
-
I don't apologise for using the term; farmers with too much technology on their hands and no knowledge of germ theory.
The term "2nd World" has always been used by intelligent people to refer to communist countries and not to describe levels of economic development. Don't people learn anything in schools these days? ::)
-
I went to niagra falls as a kid ;D
So what you're really saying is that you're in absolutely no position to say that America is the best place to live?
I've lived in US and Britain, and with substantial experience of visiting other countries that neither of these two would be my dream location.
I've just got back from Russia and I can confidently say there are even parts of that shithole I would prefer to live rather than UK or US.
-

Yes, well Confucianism is so close, it might as well be.
Why on earth are you defending Korea?
-
So what you're really saying is that you're in absolutely no position to say that America is the best place to live?
Correct!
I got my guns, my truck, and I'm happy.
You can argue anti-gun, anti-whatever.

240's cool by me. He is well aware of the world around him, despite not seeing it, he's read it etc. Book smart on the world.
Not him or the mega rich Americans, but some seem unaware of the benefits other nations get, which can make finances alot easier for us, and I guess we can forget sometimes as well.
USA of course is the only developed nation with no free health. $140 p/m may sound cool, but thats $70,000 over a lifetime. About 70 nations get that free, so we all save that cash.
Same with college. Many nations it's free, so we don't have to shove out $10,000 a year in tuition or whatever they pay. And of course, like 10 nations with free health and college have no income tax as well, so just huge savings for those people.
With free health, free college, no income tax in some cases, it's much easier to travel. You've got XX,XXX more a year to do so.
-

I didn't think you was an idiot, but after this statement, that has all changed.

I didn't think you was an idiot, but after this statement, that has all changed.
Thank you, I try :D
I've had people post till they are blue in the face that getting free healthcare while I pay no taxes is uncool. Then they moved to telling me the quality must be bad US is the best, when I get free flights to US doctors anyway. Then the good old "jealous" line came out. Just irrational comments. I honestly find 240 not to be one of those insular types that think the rest of the world is some 3rd world hellhole, so like so many do. He sees a world outside the USA.
-

The costs of free healthcare for 20-30 million people pale in comparison to the costs of free healthcare for 100-120 million.

He's making statements that US is the best place to live, having not spent a nanosecond in another country.
That is insular thinking, and you are an idiot if you disagree.
-

I was right about there being no WMD.
i was right about the US feeding both sides of the insurgency.
In Oct, you'll see I'm right about bush declaring modicums of victory in Afghan/Iraq. You'll see I'm right that he's going to nail Osama to a wall right before the election and annouce it standing with McCain by his side lol...
And in a few years, you'll see I"m right about 911 = Inside job.
-
The USA is the best place for me. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. It's impossible to "average" the highest and lowest of each nation to measure which place is the best. The USA has slums, and it has mansions. India has the same. China has the same. All countries have some shitty spots, and some awesome spots. For me, the USA is the place to be. Of course I know a little bit about the world outside mthis red, white, and blue gun range... but I know enough not to claim to be an expert on it.
-

Extremely true, but on the flip side...the large the population the larger the tax revenue also. Taxing 200 million people, is way more profitable than taxing 20 million.
It's really no never mind to me tbh, just was making a point that maintaining health insurance is an additional, albeit pretty minor, expense often forgotten by some when we make statements.

I do see your point, but I don't think he is all that insular. I personally think my nation is the best place to live as well. I've traveled worldwide yes, but not to all 220 nations, so can't say I've seen them all - but still think mine is best for me. Neither 240 or I make irrational comments about other nations and refuse to acknowledge good about them, even we love ours best.
I guess we just have different views. As long as people are open minded, and aware of the world, they are not insular to me.

No offence but are you too stupid to understand that you're in absolutely NO position to make that statement, having not been to a SINGLE country outside of the US? Do you actually understand the point I am trying to make?
Have you ever been to Norway or another Scandinavian country? Bavaria? Tokyo?
Out of curiosity which US states have you actually visited?

He's isn't all that insular, but he is on this specific area. I never said you need to see 220 nations ::) let's stay real shall we?
Irrational nationalistic pride doesn't make you right. My point stands firm and correct.

Such a silly argument because you somehow believe you are an authority on the topic. Your opinion is just as worthless (by my merits, now I am an authority on the topic... see how easy that is?) and I couldn't care if you have lived in 12 different countries for 5 years each. It's an opinion that I agree with having lived many years outside America.

im not 'upset', i just think its strange that you're so afraid to say the name of your country, especially when you talk about it so much. can you give a logical reason why? you talk proud of 'your country' but the fact that you're scared/unwilling to say the name of it makes me think you are actually ashamed.

Your damned right she afraid. She's afraid her little island paradise might become overrun with Umurkans.
I don't blame her one bit! As for me, ...I can toot my country's horn all day long.
I know most of y'all don't have the stones to withstand our winters, but her's are a different story altogether.

Many know, most the regs here etc, I have no issue with that. Just like my pics, real name etc - I just talk/share about those things over PM really. Being from such a small nation, I'll end up in the newspaper or something ghey if I splash myself all over the net.

I'll be in Antigua for spring break next year. My buddy is starting med school there and he's got a 4 bedroom townhouse to live in right on the beach. :)

Why do you think we live within 250 miles of the border? We're going as far south as we can, ...without crossing over the threshold into hell! I heard it's really hot in hell. When you get there, let us know if this is true >:(

Are you upset because the pennies you make peddling your crappy gas caps wouldn't allow you to live comfortably and leech off the government like you most likely do in Canada?

I've got one more year because I had to put my Finance classes to the side because I wanted to finish my pre-med classes in two years, but I missed it by one class. I've got to go back and finish up most of my Finance classes and bang out my art and humanities gen eds. Not that I'm complaining.
Wow, ...you're such an ass toot person. Wherever do you get your incite from?
Jesus.

I don't think Iraq would be a nice place to live.
I've never visited iraq.
Somehow, I just kinda know.

Good luck with that BF.
In an effort to reduce hate in this thread, I will share with you all a place a went - that I do not recomend. Haiti.
My stupid plane had some issue, so we landed in Haiti and I was stuck there. Boy was it not cool. Very sad really.
Cancel all plans to travel there stat, if anyone had any delusional plan to go.
-
IJesus.
You've got an awful lot of American hate. Did it de-flower you and not call back or something?
American hate?! Moi? Get over yourself. Thinking you're an ass does not equal American hate.
Since when did you become America? What an assclown you are! ::)

When did this become about me? You just insinuated that America was hell. That's some pretty fierce American hate if you ask me. It's just one in a long line of comments you've made bashing the red, white and blue. Jealous much? I guess I would be too if I made a living peddling crappy gas caps.

If you think he can say the US is the best place to live without even exiting the country for a second, you're a big an idiot as him.
Now you see YOUR opinion is more valid because YOU have in fact lived OUTSIDE of the US.

Not to hop back in the fray, but I still think there is a vast difference between someone saying it's the best country for "them" to live in versus saying "my country is so great yours is crap". First is great, second is rude and insular. Big distinction to me and my opinion counts too >:(

Yes there are mosques in York :(
There are probably mosques in the Shetlands!
Here's some help and guidelines for you during Ramadan: http://www.york.ac.uk/admin/eo/Events/ramadan.htm

I have lived on three continents and in 6 countries and have visited every continent except Australia and Antartica.
I lived in the Uk back in 98'/99'. Things were different back then. I have a Welsh M8 here and he tells me that the whole landscape has changed since then....on a positive note:
At the time of the 2001 UK census the population of York was 181,094 and its ethnic composition was 97.84% White, compared with the English average of 90.92%. York's population has a slightly higher elderly population than the national average.
It ain't no Bradford! ;D

You go to far Nordic! Remember he went to Niagara Falls ;D
Not sure why it made it worse, as I was directly referencing his statement, which was personal in nature. My entire premise of using the term 'for them' was as 240 said he felt it was best 'for him'.
Plus, the guy is a mega gun lover, so that knocks out much of the 1st world for him anyway, as that is important to him. Anyway, I probably should not have said anything, as we could be going back and forth here for the next 5 years at this rate lol. We differ on our opinions of 'insularity' is all.

If you think it's a valid premise, then fine, but it's quite obvious to me that you require little persuading in anything.

Debussey DF, I know you still have belief the issue will be resurrected but I have to agree with Deicide.
To use an ARABIC proverb: the straw that broke the camel's back has already be placed.

A complete elimination of these vermin might be difficult, yes, but: An eventual stop of muslim immigration, the natural declining birth rates among these retards (when coming to a rich country) and hard pressure on them (and some violence just to state the point ;D ) to adapt will work. You also forget that there will both be a "watering out" in teh average muslim over time, and eventually the rest of britain will get enough and snap. These idiots are just 2,7% of your population, and eventually people will get enough.
There is a reason why the muslims in Norway = extremely well behaved compared to the muzzies in Britain. It is because you ginger fuccs have not yet rediscovered your WW2 cock'n balls, while letting these uncivilized assholes run things their own way. Hell, in Norway, 6 - 7% of medical students comes from Pakistan, and becoming a medical student in Norway requires one to have a GPA of close to 4.00. It is the same genetic material, yet a different outcome.
-
I am just waiting for the Korea apologist to come back.

Shit, when Debussey thinks of it:
The muslim council in Norway has had a regular "interfaith" dialogue with the highest church organ in Norway since 1993. In Britain, muslims are out in the streets crying "death to europe".
Many "leading" muslim "community figures" in Norway are going openly out with clear support for freedom of speech, gay rights and so on (what they say in their private homes are not that important, they are still behaving)
A pretty rich muslim businessman even wanted to pay that well known terrorist "Mulla Krekar" like 100000USD to leave Norway a couple of years ago.
Of course, do not misunderstand, Debussey still can't handle them, and a lot of negative shit comes with them, but at least: It is the same group of people, yet they have pretty much successfully integrated in Norway compared to other countries.
It's like a dog, you got to leverage fear and pressure to get it to behave the way you want.
-
It seems like most immigration problems in Norway comes from certain groups of people from Somalia and so on, they integrate poorly. At the same time, it seems like the problem there is not primarely religion (since most of them have no clue about their so called "religion"), but a combination of their culture (which of course = influenced by religion), the fact that many of them are former kids-soldiers and the fact that they are poorly educated and have a low IQ, and nobody really wants somali troublemakers here. (hell, "Somalia" does not even have a gouvernment, and their culture is praising lazyness, Fuccing idiots).
The same applies to other groups that integrate poorly into society. Most of them are extremely poorly educated (can't read for example), they are simply not that intelligent, and they come from war torn countries.
Luckily, there might come new immigration laws soon that will restrict the immigration of these "poorly-integrateable" groups, as it benefits both society and because most people are fucking fed up with "immigrants" that don't behave.
At the same time, it seems like there are 2% MORE immigrants (mostly 3rd world immigrants, 1st and 2 generation) than native norwegians that take higher education. Orientals and Pakistanis and so on are highly represented here. This is a good thing :D
-
Somalians really disgust me. Why the hell would ANY country open their doors to them?
Pure vermin. The only race I really dislike.

Agreed.
Some Somali individuals that have integrated can be ok (unfortunately, they are the minority), but their native culture and their fucced upness: they can go to hell. Somalis are severely overrepresented on crime statistics and unemployment statistics in Norway. Debussey can't wait for the day when the immigration of these vermin = stopped.
Of course, part of the reason for their high unemployment = that nobody wants to hire them ;D
As a group they succ cock. Debussey thinks that they suffer from "low IQ" ;D

My apologies young Somali. They are in fact a Ethnic group. They are VERY different (along with Ethiopians) than any other demographic in the African sub-continent.
Technically, I don't think describing them as a race is absolutely false.

Who cares? They fail in every society they immigrate to, and their own country = fucced up.
Somalis seriously suck as a group. It might have something to do with their DNA.

Somalis probably have Haplotype markers.

It's funny how politicians and stuff still behave as if everybody is created equal, like differences between people don't exist.
Let's face it, certain groups of people just functions poorly in a civilized society unless a lot of force = applied to them. Still, the politicians are like: "Hey somalis, we need workers (highly educated workers like engineers that is, not ditch diggers, but lets forget to mention that) to boost our economy. Come to us and solve our economic problems (although you'll end up on welfare and contributing nothing, but we really can't say that). We won't accept highly skilled hindus from India or easily integrateable orientals with good academic potential that could ACTUALLY boost the economy, no, we believe you somalis will do the job just as well (although we know that all research say you won't and probably can't) so we'll take you in and not getting anything but crime, welfare dependence and more hate against immigrants.
Certain groups of people (not neccessarily race, but just "low IQ people) does extremely poor in education because they frankly lack the proper genetic material for sufficient intelligence. Threating people like this the same way as the rest of the population might be fine in the "ideology", but it is a worthless way of thinking pragmatically speaking. They are still gonna fail, and fail big time, becaue they just don't have what it takes.
Let us fight for benign eugenics :D

No, Debussey just don't care to proof read its posts. It = write -> Post ;D
But Debussey will man up and start checking it's english for mistakes. Debussey needs to anyway, if it wants to ace the upcoming TOEFL test and be a top 0,1%. >:(

Debussey changed the 0,5% -> 0,1%. Not being top 0,1% or higher in anything that has to do with intelligence = unacceptable >:(
This = an illusion though, since Debusseys IQ = 53 >:(

how cna you measure how 'best' a country is? Do you compare its top cities? its lowest? crime rates?
I can assure you that the bes tplace in the worst country dwarfs the worst place in the best country. The nicest street in afghanistan is was better than the shittiest slum in germany. Is afghan. better than ger?
-
Debussey, it's similar in America. Sure there are things that might boil your blood, but for the most part most "muslims" are well behaved here and a lot are even non practicing.
I've been saying that its as much a fault of the british government and people for catering to the needs to people who're let in and contribute almost nothing. The US has this problem with mexican immigrants, but atleast they provide cheap labor and keep our food costs from sky rocketing.
The USA still provides one with the chance at the American Dream; just that it's not as simple or easy as before. And this is not only due to a slower economy, but an emerging world economy. Be a doomsday prophet all you like, but I'd say we've still got it better than Europe and Canada in many aspects.

The best country I imagine is an overall of numerous things, like level of democracy, average life expectancy, level of healthcare, crime rates.
In your opinion, what are the top 3 countries, and what is the specific criteria you use to make this evaluation?

Nordic, you called me stupid for not having an answer, so I'm asking you.
Please list your top 3 nations in the world to live in, along with the rubric/scale/% you used to justify this ranking.
If you are indeed my intellectual superior, I'll happily admit it. However, if you fail to deliver a well-rounded evaluative measure which includes all relevant factors for making this determination, it's going to look like you were just talking out of your ass.

Euro 2008 is on faggot, I'm busy watching France get raped by the Italians.
Top 3?
Switzerland, Japan, Norway 8)
I'm not dissing the US, it's right up there...
Close finalists in my opinion: parts of US (some areas of CA, Hawaii), parts of Britain (Cambridge, Cornwall, parts of Wales & Scotland), Germany (Bavaria), New Zealand, Australia, Iceland, Ireland.

Your chosen way to measure the best countries: nM* XR = QL where nM = Number of Muslims, XR = Average muslim radicalism (1 - 10), QL = Quality of life.
Another one: nRS * Xr = QL, where nRS = Number of retarded Somalis (meaning all of them ;D ), Xr = Average retardism (1 - 10, set to 10 by default), QL = Quality of life.

;D
Let's face it, the quality of a society (measured through the factors you mentioned) = dependant on the average "quality" of the citizens.
If you replace 98% of the British people with radical Muslims or Somalis, they'll no doubt run the country to the ground within 8 years max. For the Somalis: 4 - 5 years. And it is not a racistic statement, its just reality.
And the bigger the % of radical Muslims or Somalis or similar people that make up the total population, the worse the "average citizen" number will be. That is partially why letting these fuckers come into any country. Everybody would be far better off if Europe let orientals come in instead, they both have brains and proper behaviour.
Let us instead go for people from China and similar countries. Much smarter, much better behaved, and much easier to properly integrate.

I cannot accept this answer :)
You just listed 10 nations you like.
You didn't explain the rubric you used to obtain this ranking. Are they the cleanest? Do they have the least pedophiles? Do they have the best McDonalds menus?
Your list isn't very useful. You could have just thrown ten darts at the world map.
Please tell us why you chose them.

As an aside, one thing about most lists is they are generally incomplete, normally miss like 25 - 30 places. Many times they miss the tiny islands, and small nations in enclaves of other nations. Quite perturbing to be so small you don't even make lists. Sucky at best really. Once I saw Pitcairn on a list, but many other places not on and I was mortally offended - Pitcairn has a population of about 50 people. >:(

I was telling my father the other day that everyone with an IQ under 110 should be killed, allowing us to fix the overpopulation problem and advance humanity at the same time. He then proposed to me a question asking if I would be able to kill my own child if their IQ turned out be under 110. I said yes and referenced the movie 300 for evidence of societies doing this before and he called my bluff. I do believe 300 is a factual movie based on a non-fiction comic book! >:(

Agreed. That would also take care of the majority of the muslim problem since most muslims are on par with africans (85IQ).
Luckily, genetic engineering will come with full force in about 20 - 30 years, and we can upgrade those second rate humanoids to a more suitable intelligence (although, it might not be too easy >:( )
Actually, the cutoff should be around 130, meaning: 98% of the worlds population = will perish. Everybody under 100 = killed, everybody between 100 - 130 = sterilized, every potential newborn screened and genetically engineered for superhuman-ness.
Agree?
This would solve overpopulation problems, most crime problems and so on. And then we could repopulate the earth with superior beings via advanced breeding farms for genetically enhanched super-humans with superior intelligence, thereby saving humanity and destroying inferiority in the process.

At 126 I would be sterilised as well...maybe I need to take an IQ test again and score better.... :-\
In any event I have long wanted to say this to you Debussey: your vision is far too limited. The future lies not in genetically advanced transhumans; it lies in trascending the flesh itself. Human beings, regardless of their IQ are essentially limited because we are worm food, i.e. our greatest hindrance is our organic nature. If we can develop the technology to transcend the organic by placing consciousness into the inorganic, we will obtain functional immortality; real illness will become a thing of the past, injuries will no longer be an issue and we won't wither and fade, either mentally or physically. That is a real vision of the future, not organic mush this has a few genetic perks. Eugenics is old school; time to move on.

Debussey has factored in transcending our organic nature as well, but as technology progresses today, the "IQ eugenics" = the first step (and at least a great idea for a society ;D )
Transcending our biology = the next step. In 20 - 50 years, enhanching human biology with nanotech and similar stuff will become normal (so, partial technological enhanchement of humans and genetic engineering will come into play around the same time). In 5000 years humans will not exist as we know them today.
Our brain is terribly slow for example. Replacing our neurons with electrical circuts would make our brain go gazillions of times quicker (= more intelligence), but that requires reverse engineering the brain we stil do not have.

Since she is insane however, I am sure she will press on just fine. :D

You would think someone with a 160 IQ would be spending their time in Harvard's laboratories finding new fuel alternatives instead of peddling gas caps for $2/dozen. :-\

As I have said; that IQ is off the charts. Someone like that would be changing the world.

Yes I am
My IQ is about 34 points higher than yours, so I'd be quiet if I were you. 8)
No offence, but you don't have an IQ of 160 to save your life. If you had, you'd be blowing the ceiling of many standardized IQ tests and you'd most likely have to be tested special by a psychologist. You might have scored abnormally high as a kid, but you don't come close to a 160 IQ as an adult to save your life, neither in the SD16 or SD15 system.
Either you are lying your ass off, have taken a bogus test, or you can present proof of your claim. :)

Actually she is just insane.

Actually, many people with very very high IQ's have problems in normal education as kids (because of the slow tempo, because of being quite different from others, they are frankly prone to emotional issues, and Debussey = extremely in favor of special schools for the gifted) and choose not to pursue higher education.
Also, when you come over a certain IQ score (135 - 140), the success predicting effects of IQ diminishes. As long as you are above 140 you can pretty much do well in any field. And the accuracy of IQ testing diminishes when you get above 140, meaning, the difference between an IQ of 152 and 162 does not nearly say as much when it comes to "intelligence differences" as a difference between 100 - 108. ;D

Well, Asia Carera (the porn star) has an IQ between 152 - 156, and Debussey knows many people that scores this high (Mensa). Debussey still wonders why they bother talking to Debussey, since Debusseys IQ = 53 >:(
Jag having a 160 IQ = not impossible, but just very very very unlikely, and with her proven track record of showing a lack of brainpower, it just does not serve her cause. A 160 IQ (SD15) = 1 out of every 31560 (and due to her ethnicity, that ratio = even worse).
But if she actually can prove it, good for her :)

Well, I am just an idiot... :-\
I haven't taken an IQ test in over a decade. Interestingly enough if I were to be judged on verbal skills/language skills alone, my IQ goes into the 130's.
My mathematical skills do not match my verbal ones. Bad genes.

Well, at least you don't lie about having a 160 IQ ;D

Honestly, I don't think about IQ much. I just try to do my best with the mental faculties given to me, regardless of how they are reflected in terms of IQ. I would say that I am fairly smart, though not overly much, in layman's terms.
But clearly when someone claims a 160 IQ (especially a black person), he/she is either lying or...well (insert into blank) doing any number of other things.

Exactly. The odds of her claims being true = extremely small. With her being black, maybe 1:60000 or 1:150000.
