Japan has been stuck in rut for decades now. They have an isolationist mentality and very little concept of the outside world. The majority of people tolerate foreigners, but racism exists here too. Luckily it's not overt, but it's there.
Having said that, I like it here for the most part. It really is a "you get out of it what you put into it" deal. If you can accept certain things, then you can live a perfectly fun and enjoyable life here.

If you get out and travel you'll see that the world is quite vast and people and there opinions vary from person to person not just country to country. The person sitting next to me may not be eating the samething as me ya dig?

It's Getbig...take it with a grain of salt. That doesn't excuse what' s being said, but as DBalln said, you gotta let some of it slide. Every country has it's good and bad points, and it's natural to defend what's yours. I've been to Korea and liked it. I live in Japan, it has some shitty things going on here too, but I'm still here after 5 years, soo...gotta be something to it.
For the record, what Kyomu says about a significant percentage of Yakuza being of Korean heritage is common knowledge here. What that percentage is is debatable, of course. Take it for what it's worth.

Seriously, pay it no mind. This is getbig, is what they do. I am from a tax haven and people here have had the nerve to say that it sucks not to pay tax. I am always of the opinion with all nations in the world that people move there and don't like it - leave. USA, Canada, Korea, Europe wherever. I've told many a complaining foreigner here get lost back to their country and get raped with taxes then. And FWIW - never been, but my brother visits Korea often and really likes it 8)

Korea is known in the TEFL community for being a brutal place to work...the most inhospitable to foreigners. That is just a fact. People work there because it offers the best pay package in Asia. Most likely the pay package is reflective of the fact that most people would not go there to teach otherwise. That said, some people do have positive experiences there. I think much of it depends on your personality and ability to tolerate the xenophobia and culture shock. It helps greatly if you are a blonde, blue-eyed female when TEFL anywhere in Asia.

Nice save Azn! my best friend Brandon is asian. Korean and Japanese, parents got a lot of heat from grandparents for marrying but eventually got over it when they saw their grandchild. Brandons parents basically raised me and paid for my education. from my experience they are great people and held no angst against a "foreign" kid.

Anyway, this used to be quite common in Europe until World War II. Both in British boarding schools as well as French lycées, teachers were allowed to hit students with wips if they were disrespectful or underperformed. However, breaking the bones of students with sticks would be over the line even by 19th century English standards.

No, Askenazi Jews are the highest earning group, followed by white Cubans who fled Castro's revolution and then by the Parsi. Asians come after these groups. But yes, you are correct that Asians are affluent and educated.
The problem with the Asian educational system is that it does not encourage students to develop traits necessary for true advancement. The Asian educational system is ideal for creating large numbers of decently good engineers that propel a country to First World status, yes, but it is terrible at producing elite scientists and researchers.
Making scientific discoveries and inventions requires a different set of skills than earning degrees in engineering or math. It requires the ability to think for oneself and outside the box, traits that the Asian educational system discourages. This probably explains why, even though whites are on average less intelligent and industrious than East Asians, they have made far more scientific discoveries and invented far more things than East Asians
