I'll agree to an extent there - I'm probably at about 16 or 17% bodyfat in that picture so yes, my arms would probably shrink considerably if I were to step up onstage. I doubt they would go down to 16 inches though, but yes, they would shrink.

You didn't read the fine print, i said Schwarzenegger at his best, not what Jones did or didn't measure, keeping in mind the feud with Weider and the fact Jones had every incentive to downplay the Weider boys. It's clear from pics side by side that Schwarzenegger's arms were almost exactly the size of Oliva's.

They look pretty small and soft there... hard to really tell, seeing as we can barely see them from the side but they don't look like 19.5". I've seen fatass bikers with 23" arms though Squad, that doesn't mean they're bigger and better than Oliva's, just fatter. Being lean creates a whole different illusion of size, especially if there is good shape to boot.

I have to be honest here, this particular discussion in general is little frustrating, I am of the firm opinion that none of us can accurately judge the circumference of this gentlemen’s upper arm, from the distance that the picture is taken it would seem as if he possessed arms no larger then 16 inches flexed, or maybe 17, this would also include the very un flattering angle of the picture as well which is taken from the anterior, which generally looks slightly unflattering under normal circumstances, on top of the fact that he isn’t even flexing!!! I can’t believe all these variables haven’t been taken into consideration in the judgment of the actual size of his upper arm measurement. Frankly the picture itself is a poor source of evaluation.Now concerning the Sergio Oliva pic used to compare nineteen inches with, I have a number of things to add to this…
1) Sergio Olivas arm measured in EXCESS of twenty inches cold, not nineteen and a half, I have read the Arthur Jones report a number of times, in fact he is actually the only bodybuilder to have acquired this measurement at the time Jones administered the measurements, with the likes of Casey Viator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Boyer Cole, and others. Now if I am wrong on this fact still refer to the text below.
2) We are completely unaware of the actual height of the featured individual, remember that 19 inches on a guy that is 6’5 will look vastly different from 19 inches on a guy that is 5’7, now this is of course an extreme example but goes to point out the fact that height is taken into consideration.
3) Males typically do not store much body fat around the arms, body fat tends to accumulate around the torso before distributing anywhere else, this whole notion of “fat arms” is generally fallible as it would require quite a abundance of body fat for it to Significantly accumulate in that area, at least for most males, so a sudden 3 inch drop in arm circumference due to contest shape would more largely be attributed to the loss in MUSCLE MASS during such arduous cardiovascular training, not BODY FAT. The individual featured can neither be said to be medically obese or within healthy range of body fat, but from the distance he seems quite normal.
So bottom line is, I see no reasonable means to verify an ACTUAL MEASUREMENT.

I have to be honest here, this particular discussion in general is little frustrating, I am of the firm opinion that none of us can accurately judge the circumference of this gentlemen’s upper arm, from the distance that the picture is taken it would seem as if he possessed arms no larger then 16 inches flexed, or maybe 17, this would also include the very un flattering angle of the picture as well which is taken from the anterior, which generally looks slightly unflattering under normal circumstances, on top of the fact that he isn’t even flexing!!! I can’t believe all these variables haven’t been taken into consideration in the judgment of the actual size of his upper arm measurement. Frankly the picture itself is a poor source of evaluation.Now concerning the Sergio Oliva pic used to compare nineteen inches with, I have a number of things to add to this…
1) Sergio Olivas arm measured in EXCESS of twenty inches cold, not nineteen and a half, I have read the Arthur Jones report a number of times, in fact he is actually the only bodybuilder to have acquired this measurement at the time Jones administered the measurements, with the likes of Casey Viator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Boyer Cole, and others. Now if I am wrong on this fact still refer to the text below.
2) We are completely unaware of the actual height of the featured individual, remember that 19 inches on a guy that is 6’5 will look vastly different from 19 inches on a guy that is 5’7, now this is of course an extreme example but goes to point out the fact that height is taken into consideration.
3) Males typically do not store much body fat around the arms, body fat tends to accumulate around the torso before distributing anywhere else, this whole notion of “fat arms” is generally fallible as it would require quite a abundance of body fat for it to Significantly accumulate in that area, at least for most males, so a sudden 3 inch drop in arm circumference due to contest shape would more largely be attributed to the loss in MUSCLE MASS during such arduous cardiovascular training, not BODY FAT. The individual featured can neither be said to be medically obese or within healthy range of body fat, but from the distance he seems quite normal.
So bottom line is, I see no reasonable means to verify an ACTUAL MEASUREMENT.

Try 5'9"-5'10".

Jones measurement had Oliva's arms as 20 5/8"s cold, around 22 pumped. About the same as Schwarzenegger at his best.
If he's claiming 19 cold that's still hard to believe.
That's not even Oliva at his largest. He was about 210 there. When the man entered his 230's and then 240's his arms GREW.

Not when measured by Jones,they were 19 1/2 inches with a pump , Francos were a shade under 17 and sergio was the only over genuine 20 inche of that time
Franco claimed that his arms grew to 19" by the time of his 2nd Olympia victory in 1981, which was about a decade after Jones measured them.
