Title: Lightweight champion...what the fuck does this mean?
Post by: benz on December 08, 2008, 08:12:56 PM
Seriously, lightweight is for those that cant gain mass like a real pro (coleman nasser wheeler ruhl etc)... why is lightweight considered when bodybuilding is all about heavyweight? To me , lightweight is the way to not make feel bad those who are small (reffer to nick visicaro).

fuck lightweight category

Maybe you should study what bodybuilding was originally meant to be.

I agree. It pisses me off when guys like Zack Khan can't get a pro card, but a guy that's 145lbs can just because they award the lightweight class a pro card. Fucking stupid.

You folks are morons. Chances are if any of you stood next to Marvin Ward you would look like a sack of crap. I am a light heavyweight but think that the Nationals & USA in more fun to watch because of the weight classes. There are lots of great physiques out there that will never win the Olympia.

Marvin Ward looks awesome, I never said the lightweights didn't look good. I just think it's stupid when guys that could actually do damage as pro's never get the chance. Look at Bob Chic, Rory Leidelmeyer, Vinny Galanti, Matt Mendenhall, Edgar Fletcher, and plenty of other names I could mention... these guys either never got their cards, or got them late. They all would've done well in the pro's, as opposed to the guys that win their card and never use it because they can't hang with the pro's. Vinny just got his card this year and was pro material 10 years ago.

Unfortunately I have been asked to give my two cents here....I also agree that we need to weed out the "little men" and make room for the "big boys" of the sport....the sport is suffering also due to this fact that people dont want to pay money to see "normal" small people even if they have huge muscles.....they want to see freaks with SIZE, HEIGHT, AND MUSCLE freakiness....the post earlier showing really tall bodybuilders was awesome....I am 6'3 225 and am nowhere suggesting I look anything like these guys but I believe BIGGER IS BETTER and some of these small statured and short framed guys are boring and nothing people want to really see....these guys take spots from ths big guys that look more impressive and could help the sport grow and get out from behind the shadows....

Competitors in all of the weight classes have my respect.  If you earn your pro card, you are a pro.....it's that simple.  So what if a bantam or lightweight doesn't win the title?  :)

Your kidding right?  I think some of us are confused about what it will take to bring our sport "out from behind the shadows".  It definitely is not the Mass Monster.  We have to realize that the number op people who follow our sport is very slim.  The general public has no desire to see the freakish muscle and pure bulk of todays mass monsters.  Our sport has a much better chance of moving towards the mainstream by moving toward the more aesthetic physiques with nice lines and symmetry, regardless of the size.  Just so happens that the smaller bodybuilders seem to display these traits more than the mass monsters. Obviously this is still bodybuilding so there has to be a good mix of size and symmetry but the days of pure mass have shown that this is not what the mainstream desire to see.  I'd like to see a good mix of size and symmetry but I'm sure the under 200 competitions will bring an increased following in itself and more than likely bring our sport more into the mainstream then it has ever been before.

They don't.  Only at Nationals does every class get a Pro Card.  At the USA's you have to win the Overall or be 2nd in the Overall.  At the North Americans you have to win the Overall.  Just think if they eliminated classes like the Light Heavies Dexter Jackson would have never been a Pro.

Yes DK, for sure.  I used to advocate the over 6' area in our gym and the under 6' for the children.  Bruno applied this and it was a hit.  The little guys had their own separate door, one of those short doors like for childrens stores...they were very happy.

Yes I concur bodybuilding is extremely gay these days.  But you're wrong.  More people would follow the sport if the physiques weren't so unattainable by the average person.  Looking like a Frank Zane is attainable with modest amounts of steroid and average genetics and hardwork.  Looking like Ronnie Coleman is from another planet.  That's the problem with bodybuilding.  3/4 of all NFL fans have probably never played a sport in their life, doesnt stop them from being football fans.

At its peak it was never a freakshow.  The golden era was called the golden era for a reason.  Do you think people nowadays wouldn't find Bill Pearl or Arnold's physique impressive?  Of course they would.  The factors responsible for the decline of bodybuilding have much more to do with the overall image of the sport, not just the size and shape of the competitors.  Plus the in your face homosexual side of bodybuilding is much more apparent nowadays than it was in the 50s and 60's.

So did Dave Draper, Bill Pearl, and a host of others.  Also you gotta understand bodybuilding for the most part was still a very healthy endeavor despite the steroids back then.  Armand Tanny and a host of others are 80+ year sold and going strong.  NOT ONE PRO bodybuilder would ever be considered a bastion of health and vitality.  Pros nowadays retire and look like death warmed up.  Ronnie Coleman had to have fucking oxygen backstage during one of his competitions.  When he was on David Letterman he was panting like a maimed gorilla.  But look at all the morons and idiots on the internet, getbig included.  Does it really surprise you why the sport is the way it is?

Please, Dorian was one of the most unhealthy looking bodybuilders to ever step on stage.  He looks like death warmed up now that he's retired as well.  Bodybuilding's popularity died with the onslaught of extreme drug use/abuse, the extreme hype of supplements, and the in your face homosexuality to name a few things.  Average joes used to be drawn to bodybuilding first because overall it was a fairly healthy endeavor and secondly the physiques used to be fairly attainable even with little to no drug use.  You may not look like Frank Zane or Bill Pearl without drugs but if you got up off your ass and ate right and trained you'd pack on a good amount of muscle.  Take a young kid that has any interest in the sport.  By the time he gets his ass in the gym and realizes he'll NEVER look like Ronnie Coleman he'll either give up or jump on steroids and realize everything about the sport is a huge lie.

Well what is a light heavyweight boxer?  Every sport has weight classes.  Just because someone doesn't stand 6' and 300lbs doesn't mean they don't represent the essence of bodybuilding.  I mean light heavyweight or not bodybuilding isn't only about size.  It's also about definition.  Look at the definition of the top IFBB pros nowadays.  It's shit.  They are all smoother than they've ever been.  Lack of lasix?  Too much slin?  Too big?  who knows why.  Whether your can throw a football or hit a home run, bodybuilding is no different, it's about doing what 99% of the population can't.

Haha coming from such a bastion of size and mass!!!!!

The goal of bodybuilding has never been about building as much muscle as possible.  I mean fuck if that was the case strongestman contenders probably have more muscle than any top pro bodybuilder.  Bodybuilding is the entire package............symme try, size, definition, conditioning (not stepping on stage and needing oxygen back stage when you walk off).  The human body comes in all different shapes and sizes.  So there should be many types of categories allowing for this genetic variance.  Some of the smaller guys look much better than the bloated, GH gut pros anyways.

i think weight classes are fine to turn pro and keeps bbing from really flaming out, smaller weight classes fill up with more competitiors dur to weight restrictions if and when they turn pro then one can try if they will to gain size needed to compete a s a pro, with that i must say that with increase in diet and supplementation natural and unnnatural u see bbers at say a height of 5'6 compete as lightweight ripped to the bone,a more muscular sized middle, lightheavy ,and 5'6 built like a tank heavyweight, that all depends on the structure, mass, and how the muscle is distributed on that 5'6 frame ,thats what makes bbing unique .i used that height as example, theres 5'4 lightheavies and heavyweights now, back in the 80's those guys that height were lightweights ripped but weighed 154 lbs not anymore, aau stuck by height classes that's were u saw guys being outweighed in there height class but it did make it interesting.

I'd qualify as a super heavyweight, and I'd dwarf your five foot tall frame, there you go "big guy"  ;)

You moron I'm 6'5 and I outweigh you by 40 lbs.

light heavyweight means that I am 5'6 and compete at 195lbs. Sorry if that is not huge enough for all of mass freaks that frequent these boards. I know that every guy who posts here is 5'10 and 285lbs of shredded mass. You guys are hillarious.

You folks are morons. Chances are if any of you stood next to Marvin Ward you would look like a sack of crap. I am a light heavyweight but think that the Nationals & USA in more fun to watch because of the weight classes. There are lots of great physiques out there that will never win the Olympia.
case in point : Vinny Galanty

or the german guy

they have all kinds of classes, it's bullshit

lightweight
welterweight
middleweight
lightheavy weight
heavy weight
superheavyweight

it's like wtf, the goal of bodybuilding is to build as much muscle as possible, small guys need to take a back seat.

I`ve never commented on any of your bullshit threads/posts,but you sir are not qualified to judge any bantamweight competitor because most would bury you on stage and in the gym.

A lot of "smaller" guys HAVE built as much muscle as their frames allow.......everr see a pic of Jose` Raymond,Tricky Jackson,or Marvin Ward.........you`d look like a fucking skeletal corpse standing next to any of them.

Get a clue......you know jackshit about bodybuilding kid !

Hi George W. Bush, I had no idea you posted on here.  :)

"Internets" is a Bushism-turned-catchphrase used humorously to portray the speaker as ignorant about the Internet or about technology in general, or as having a provincial or folksy attitude toward technology. United States President George W. Bush first used the word publicly during the 2000 election campaign. The term gained cachet as an Internet humor meme following Bush's use of the term in the second 2004 presidential election debate on October 8, 2004.

DANIEL FARLEY, AUDIENCE MEMBER: Mr. President, since we continue to police the world, how do you intend to maintain our military presence without reinstituting a draft?
BUSH: Yes, that's a great question. Thanks. I hear there's rumors on the, uh, Internets [pause] that we're going to have a draft. We're not going to have a draft, period. The all-volunteer army works. It works particularly when we pay our troops well. It works when we make sure they've got housing, like we have done in the last military budgets.

JOYCE CLEAMER, AUDIENCE MEMBER: ...I'm very concerned about the morality of our country now. TV, movies, the music that our children are, you know, barraged with every day. And I want to know if there's anything that can be worked out with the—Hollywood, or whoever, to help get rid of some of this bad language and whatever, you know...
BUSH: ...We can have filters on Internets where public money is spent. There ought to be filters in public libraries and filters in public schools so if kids get on the Internet, there is not going to be pornography or violence coming in.
