tuna and beans is not going to put muscle on anyone

goudy will be the first to tell you that his body is the result of his hard training, not what he eats

so debussey you think goudy took a picture of that meal because he thought to himself "damn this is a great muscle building meal" ?... thats what the thread title would lead one to believe... however that doesnt make any sense given the meal eh took a picture of

What the hell are you babbling about? Given sufficient calories, tuna and beans works great for building mass.

well

protein and "carbs" (do you want to call beans a carb..? they are in between vegetable and carb really...not enough glucose to be starch, but not enough fiber or vitamin/mineral to be veggie (and yes i know they are legume but that isnt what im talking about) )

sure protein and carbs is great for losing fat

protein and ALOT of carbs and a bit of fat would be good for building muscle

that meal is a little bti of carbs, a little bit of fat, and a moderate portion of protein...however its tuna... tuna has fat and guess what ? omega 3 fat... anti inflammatory... not good for building muscle..   more fish fat = less response to/growth from training...

i just didnt understand the thread title. the posts after my intial arent directed towards you only to debussey

i remember a thread titled "this enough protein for lunch?" and inside the guy had a picture of a sub sandwich literally packed with about 2 and a half pounds of raost beef....         so i guess when i saw your title..i expected you to have some kind of exxagerated "anabolic meal"...and then its just average nothing special meal...

Looks great if it's low sodium tuna (minimal fishy flavor).  Otherwise, chop up a grilled chicken breast in there.  Then have more baked beans for desert :)

you should be the first one to agree with me on my original point. how in the world is that meal worthy of a comment like "anabolic enough for ya :)? "  ? ?

honestly... that kind of thing would be said if the meal was enormous, packed with protein carbs and calories...

that meal is tiny and small packed with nothing..

One could assume that had he actually taken in all of the necessary calories for his day prior to eating this particular meal, that it would be just as 'anabolic' as any other given its content.

How would one possibly know how "anabolic" a meal really is? Who can prove that an anabolic meal must include protein? What if the protein content in the body was already sufficient at that time and no more protein could be assimilated? One would have to assume that a carbohydrate at this point, especially one with "complex" makeup, would actually spare the protein one had already eaten and maintain the positive nitrogen balance.

If one calorie above and beyond the positive caloric state of a body were consumed, where would it go? The answer would depend entirely upon the individual and how his/her body stored/used excess calories. Sure, one could hope that the extra calorie would be used to grow muscle, but the individual person would not consciously make that decision. That one calorie could indeed be stored as fat.

So, if the one excess calorie were used towards the growth of muscle tissue, could that one calorie in theory be described as "anabolic?"

1: Your argument makes no sense. You need to see the meal in context with his total intake of macronutrients and calories during the day. In general, Debussey agrees that carbs = needed.

2: Debussey was asking for proof on your omega 3/tuna argument. Omega 3's have many effects in the body, and just saying that they = not good for muscle growth due to their anti inflammatory effects = short sighted, when the total effects of all of the interactions might be positive on muscle growth. On top of that, if what you = saying is true, how much = they actually inhibiting muscle growth when everything = taken into consideration? Is the effect even worth considering? (apply the same reasoning to your beans argument as well if you want)
This = why Debussey asked for studies, to see if 1: what you = saying has merit, 2: if effect exists, how strong is it really? (0,001% = not worth even considering for example).

Please enlighten us you sexy bad boy :-*

Try fasting for a week on either just water or something like carrot juice.

I've done this a few times to drop serious amounts of water and fat.

U just gotta be careful on the rebound  :o

Fair enough. Sure I don't kill myself at the gym but I do work reasonably hard. If nature had intended for me to be a huge strong guy I would have become that the last few years, but I didn't. It's not rocket science. I am not complaining either, just stating facts. Anyway.

You can still get consistent progress in strength and mass with systematic training and eating over many years.

Get outta the gym and stop with the weights.

Stick to pressups and bodyweight stuff and some cardio

Only eat dark green veggies.

Some guys just don't respond to heavy weights

At the moment your body is not handling either of them well.

Stick to raw veggie shakes

No, it doesn't taste good. Maybe for a brit, that is. Once you know how to cook. you will see how easy it is to make something great out of that.

First, get some veggies and FRESH herbs.

uh.. its a simple fast to make cheap meal.

who the hell wants to spend all their time in the kitchen...

what do you cook then?

You're dumb. You can cook great meals in no time.

For example, i had some seafood spaghetti tonight. You need:

seafood, chilis, garlic, ginger, salt, pepper, dashi powder and some scallions. Put everything inside a frypan with olive oil except the dashi and the seafood, then add the seafood when it starts to smell good.
The spaghetti are already cooking, when they are ready, put some water from the spaghettis in the frypan, mix in a packet of dashi and BOOM, you're set.

Takes about nine minutes, 15 if you add the chopping of the veggies.

I make some great Jamaican Chicken Curry as well, you prepare the chicken 2 nights before, let it marinate in the fridge, then put it in a deep pan with potatoes and carrots, let it simmer for 90 minutes, you only need like 10 minutes preparation for this. It cooks by itself.

Nice and simple.

Just the way eating should be.

I cook most of my meals and each take about 15 mins to prepare. I'm not a big tuna fan but it's obviously working for big Goudy. Sometimes i'll take an 8 oz. steak and chop it up into a bowl of beans and rice. Looks like death but works great and is relatively cheap.

what you guys fail to realize is that you only need some deep frozen veggies that go into water for like 3 minutes, some fresh herbs and some nice tricks on the side like adding yoghurt, milk, honey, mustard or other stuff you probably all have at home and people will believe you're a professional cook.

The meals i prepare don't take longer than Ursus' stuff, but come on! A can of tuna, pasta and processed pasta sauce?? You can do better than that! exchange the pasta sauce with a can of tomatoes, some salt, pepper, fresh herb and add some vegetable of your choice and you have a great healthy meal without all the shit you have inside the pasta sauce.

And it's little more effort than opening a glas of sauce, but on the side hand it will taste better and you will appreciate the meal more. Be thankful for the food that has given his life for you to live.  ;D
