Title: Kaz stories

There are a few on the stories thread.  I put a few up.  Bill is a good friend of mine so I shared a few stories.

Kieth did you ever hit the gym with him? I've always wondered if his pulling strength was on par with his pushing...I do recall reading that he curled 440 lbs, but that seems almost too amazing to be true...even for Kaz

I actually nev er really trained with him.  we were in the gym together lifting butnever together.  I did see him curl (warmup 1st set) with 100 lb DB like they weighed 5 lbs.  I uswed them to but at least I had to starin a little.  He literally made it look like he had no weight.  I also watched him bench 405 for 20 again like there was maybe 135 on it.  He told me he had done 50 reps with 405 before.  His overall power was unreal but his stamia was equally impressive.  We hung out while he was here but never trained with him.  I think because I didn't want to look like a weakling next to him

you're both monsters, i remember hearing about him grabbing a pair of 165's off the dumbbell rack, cleaning them to his shoulders and pressing them for 5 or 6 reps.

Post by: onlyme on July 22, 2005, 08:38:00 PM
He actually had the record for pressing 150's for I think it was 50.  But a black cop beat that record at the ASC in 2003.  I was standing with Kaz when the guy did it.  This guy was big but nothing like Kaz.  It was amazing.  SO 165's I see noproblem for him to do that.

Okay here is another long story.  Kazmaier is a good friend and a great guy.  He has come to Hawaii on a few occasions to help me with things I have promoted.  Plus we share the same birthday so we send birthday e-cards to each other.   Anyway, the first time he came here for me was back in 1990 or 91'.  We were promoting the 1st Gold's Gym Bodybuilding Contest here along with a few other promotions including a great tug-a-war contest I was doing.

Well, me and a friend of mine decided to take Bill on a tour of Oahu,  At the time I had a nice 4x4 Bronco.  So, myself and Bill are in the front.  We are driving around and ended up in Waikiki.  We’re driving down Kalakaua Ave, (the street along Waikiki Beach) and was turning left at the zoo.  It was a yellow light. So I went, cause I learned to make rights on yellows.  Well in Waikiki the police drive around in those 3-wheel Cushman buggies.  So I hear a siren behind me.  I go about 100’ and pull into a short driveway next to the zoo.  Now when I get pulled over I like getting out of the car immediately cause it seems to get more respect from the cop.  So I did.  Well I hear this “sir get back into the vehicle” from the little buggy.  I said no it is too small and I want to stand out here.  So now he is a little pissed and he gets out of his buggy.  Then Big Bill gets out.  I swear to god no way in hell this guy weighed more than 135 and was about 5’4” oriental.  I told him don’t worry I am not going to do anything.  He starts to asks us again to get in the car.  Bill now says “I’m not staying in that fucking car you’ll have to handcuff me.”  Well he grabs his radio thing near his shoulder and calls for assistance.  In about 5 seconds I think there was about 4 more of those buggys and 3 or 4 regular cars. There was maybe 12 cops there. First they see me and they all know me.  I have done so many thing here and been on TV and everything so they were all cool to me.  Then they notice Bill.  They went crazy.  They told the little cop guy do you who these guys are and they introduce me and then Bill as the Worlds Strongest Man. The little cop felt so bad.  So now we are on the side of the zoo with a crowd coming together signing autographs for everyone.  They let us go.  It was really funny to see the little guys face when Bill told him he wasn’t going back into the car, cause Bill kind of yelled it at him and sounded mean.

In relation to Bill at the gym.  Everyone couldn’t wait for him to get there to train.  He shows up and we decide to do arms.  So I do my little warm-ups with the girly weights, while Bill goes over nears the end of the rack and picks up the 100’s.  He takes them and does about 20 full biceps curls like they were nothing to warmup.  Eevryone in the gym was standing there with their mouths wide open.  They couldn’t believe it.  The next day he did a little bench.  I asked him how much he can do now and he just said he doesn’t go really heavy right now.  Well he did go up to 405.  the only thing is that he did 30 of them and had more in him.  He told me he has done 50 reps with 405 before.  Unreal.  I felt like a little kid working out with him

I remember the hotel we put him up in was the Tahitian Lanai.  It was one of the oldest hotels in Honolulu and in fact is gone now.  It was all Gold’s Gym was going to pay for.  Well you have to imagine what it looked like.  Very old only two story’s on the beach and very local looking.  Plus it had no A/C and no front doors to close only a screen door.  I never looked inside before.  Bill calls me and tells me he will pay for his own flight home if I don’t get him out of there.  So I ended up having to pay for the Illikai which was about $200 a night rather than the bargin of $75 a night at the Tahitian Lanai.  Oh well Bill is worth the upgrade.

The pics are from the Arnold a couple years ago and the other is from the tug-a-war.  The other guy is Norm Compton who was Stallone bodyguard and Dolly Parton’s.  He also acts a lot.

You know Max you are right.  I am ttying to think while I type.  I can type pretty fast as long as you don't count the mistakes like in typing class.  And no I woudl rather not talk about Kristen and yes she has one of the most incredible bodies.  Hell she was in Playboy.  Plus she took 1st place at the bikini contest I judged.

who is the strongest in comparison, Mar Henry or Kaz? Kaz says that Henry is the strongest man alive and only operates at 80% of his potential
Title: Re: Kaz stories
Post by: reichsfuehrer SS on July 23, 2005, 03:21:06 PM
back, leg and hip power goes to Mark Henry, 1000 pound squat, 903 deadlift, 500 pound clean and jerk although Bill isn't far behind, Bill said that if he had the gear the guys have nowadays and with a thicker, longer bar he could have squatted 1100 and with some grip work he felt he could have done 930 or so deadlift, all around pressing power goes to Bill, no contest, i think Mark's top bench was around 525 or 530, Kaz did 661.

The thing about Bill like i said is he has endurance and stamina too.  He could lift heavy more than once.  Remember in the WSM when he did the log lift.  He not only beat the old record but he did a few reps.  Just like the 500 lb bench or the 150 lb BD press.  He was strong and it lasted
Title: Re: Kaz stories
Post by: reichsfuehrer SS on July 23, 2005, 07:10:45 PM
yeah, i remember buying his training booklets around '92 or '93 he had three of them he autographed the bench press booklet, he would do sets of 15 in the offseason on the bench press with as much as 475 or so, his program in the offseason looked like a bodybuilding program.

Post by: reichsfuehrer SS on July 23, 2005, 07:19:14 PM
yeah, only, the crazy thing about Bill and the log press in like 81 or 82 i think he did 375 or 380, was that he used no leg drive whatsoever he just pressed it with all shoulder strength, amazing.

There was one event where they had to toss kegs into the back of a truck.  Not only were they heavy....but Kaz had the stamina that put the others to shame

That keg thing was definitely the most impressive thinghe did.  I rememebr everyone else walking the kegs over to put them in theback of the truck and Kaz stood there and literally through them from where they were into the back of the truck.  It was unreal how he through the kegs in the air like they were empty.

If I remember correctly....when they set up that course, they were not expecting anyone to be able to just stand there & toss them.

Once again age is playing into this.  Kaz I am sure is older than any of these guys mentioned from Europe.  I think Kaz has more strength than any of these guys have when he was at his tops.  The only thing now is that allot of the events require just as much technique as it does strength.  You could be the strongest but if you don't have the technique then you probably won't do so well.  The log lift when Kaz did it was sheer strength with no technique.  Just lift and power it over. I can't think of the guys name but the pretty fat guy who really doesn't have much in technique but he lifts incredible weight.

Jp is undoubtly strong as all hell and for his height is really unreal.  But Kaz will be my favorite for sheer strength and endurance over anyone.

Free your a funny guy  ;D

If Kaz had a brief carrer as a strong man I wish mine was so brief.  Its fun to look at all those great European strongmen after the ended thier careers- JP before he died, Ver Magnusson, Ahola, Vertinan, Taylor. They all look like rugby players. Kaz is in his 50s and is still a monster today.

John Paul was no doubt a strong dude. But his lifts NEVER rivaled Kaz's bench, squat, and deadlift. As far as pure raw power their is no contest.

I guess the rest of the world must be pro american  ;D

PS for the record my family is from Croatia  :)

Didn't Kaz and Sigmarsson both weigh in the low 300's?  I coulda sworn they were nearly the same bodyweight, maybe Kaz had 10-20 lbs. on JP.

See my avatar...that's a cartoon version of Big Glenn  ;D

Even Kaz himself has said that for brute strength Glenn is #1, and would have given Kaz his biggest challenge among todays competitors.  As for accomplishing nothing in international cometition...he fared pretty well at the Arnold strongman..breaking hummer DL record (a contest Henry, Gillinghams among MANY others have competed in).

Glenn is obese yes, but the guy is unbelievably strong...strongest man on teh planet IMO

oh, and its Jamie Reeves  ;)

speaking of great American strongmen how about O.D. Wilson, 6'6"410 lbs., incredibly strong, 895 lb. deadlift, 1000 lb. squat got beat by Sigmarsson in either 91 or 92 in the last event, a stupid foot race around a track with like 220 lbs. on the shoulders, what the hell does that have to do with strength, that is what onlyme was talking about.

Anyone that can lift the Thomas Inch in my book is a bad ass- I think there were 3 right? Ross, Thomas himself and Kaz. Maybe one or 2 others( I think Pfister came close).
I love reading stories of old time strong men like, Uni, Slim the hammer man, Apollon, Syr. The kind of brute strength these guys had was unreal. I did meet a guy once that could bend a quarter between his thumb and forefinger- his hands and forearms were huge!!

There is no evidence Thomas Inch was able to one-hand clean and press the Inch 172 pound dumbell. There are claims that he could- claims which omit the three other look-a-like dumbells he owned which he would substitute for the 172. One weighed about 75 pounds. Inch himself never claimed he could do anything beyond deadlifting the bell UNTIL others also began to deadlift it, at that point Inch retroactively redefined what he had done with the 172 to include a one hand clean and overhead.

Inch certainly lacked the strength to press 172 in a standing press (although he was a splendid bent presser- at one time one of only three men in the world able to manage 300).

Only the whereabouts of the 172 pound Challenge Bell is known. The 75, 140, and 152 are in parts unknown.

I have spent hundreds of hours studying Inch's history and tracing every reference I could find among the 800 issues of Health & Strength in my library, and well as my other mags. The early mentions of the story are vastly different from the later versions. Later versions being what may be termed 'Inch friendly'. :)

Hey Joe good to have you on board for this conversation and thanks for the info on the Thomas Inch DB. So am I right in saying only Kaz and Ross have pressed the dumbell. Any Kaz stories you would like to share??

I would have liked to try the Inch lift back in the late 80's if I knew about it.  Interesting.

Mark Henry push pressed the dumbell after cleaning it so forcefully he was almost knocked backwards.

Kaz, I am told may have used his knee to aid the upward movement- thus changing it from a clean to a continental.

If Inch's story is true (and I doubt that it is) then Arthur Saxon and his brothers had an Inch replica made after they had failed to even get his off the floor. They worked with their replica, mastered it, went to try Inch's original and still could not lift it. Yeah, right. I often wondered why Arthur did not dispute Inch making this claim, and then the chronology banged into my brain: Inch made no such claim while Arthur was living- he made it a few weeks after Saxon had died.

I asked Kaz in Atlanta some years ago during the Olympia if I could measure his forearm, but he said no they were ' all dilapidated and torn up'.

The most recent time I saw him was again in Atlanta for the GNC where when we were talking he told me of a publisher that was spreading lies about me. When I confronted the publisher, he denied it.

I have found that when people cannot win an argument with a person, they sometimes attack the person.

Joe, & Onlyme

In Ellington Dardons book High Intesity II, Dardon talks about forearms and hand strenght. Dardon claims that David Willhougby measured Kaz's right forearm at 17.5 (if memory serves me) with a steel tape. Any thoughts on how acurate it might be. Kaz said at that time he weighted about 330lbs

As I recall from the Ironman article covering that measure, it was 17" straight (not goosenecked). Keep the entire arm and hand in a straight line with wrist not goosenecked. Clenching to a fist is okay. In that unfavorable position Kaz measured 17" (from memory- I did not look it up)
When measured in straight line if the forearm is twice the circumference of the wrist, it is world class. Manfred did not have twice when I measured him, but Lee Priest had twice PLUS one inch!
Cold measurement, not pumped.

i measured a friend of mines right forearm at 18 and a quarter goosenecked at 5'11" 325 lbs., monster on pressing movements.

Those are some impressive numbers on Kaz and Priest. You dont happen to know how big Bills wrists are- they look huge.

Manfreds arms over all are really impressive dispite the obvious inhancements but his forearms never looked particularly great. I did read an article that stated he could crush a full soda can between his hands with his fingers locked which is an impressive feat in itself. Im dont think Manfred had the hand strengh of guys like Sorin or Brookfield.

I like the measurements of Kaz.  I never really measured myself.  At some armwrestling events they would measure guys sometimes.  Not sure why.  Armwerwstlers back then had weird ways of training and were very dedicated.

Meaurements of me in 1987 (I know, but to tell you the truth beside 1997 just before I got bit that was the biggest and best shape I was in, so I can only go from that, plus my body changed so fast back then, so go ahead and rag on me for livingin the past)

My right forearm- was just a tiny little bit over 17" (that is flexed and pumped with viens all over)( Ijust measured my right forearm and it is just under 16".  (I have not trained them seriously for 10+ years)
My left forearm was just slightly over 14"
My shoulder girth was 63" to 64" (I wore a 62 tux, i had made for the Ali dinner)
My calves, biceps were 21"
My neck was a shade below 21"
My thighs about 27" to 28"
My waist was 38" at a bodyweight of 300 (But i could still fit in my 36" Calvins, tightly)
I am a shade below 6'1"
Shoe (cowboy boot) is 13 EEE (I can fit in 12 sometimes)
Wrist is almost 9"
My fist is just over 12" (same as Ali's)
I never really measured my chest except way back and I think it was 55"
My ring size 14 (I remember that from high school class ring measuring)

These are measurements I remember way back.  Of course a few of them have grown immensely.  In fact you could ad a couple together and get a few of my measurements now.   My normal weight is between 300 and 320. I was trimming to 275 for the 2000 Olympics before getting bit.

AT 300 I could still put my right leg behid my neck and do the splits all they way down.  Butg I could not put my left leg around my neck for some reason.  I used to do that in the movies.  I could lay on my back and grab both knees and kiss them both at 300.  I now have a hard time laying on my back and just grabbing the knees.  But someday.

I think Ihave a newspaper article somewhere, where the reporter measured me.  I will look for it.

endurance strength is fine, i.e. WSM, but i believe to claim to actually be the strongest man in the world you have to measure it on raw power. And on that basis, how do you look passed Glenn Ross and Mark Henry?

Glenn:

400kg Squat (no suit)

400kg Deadlift (no suit)

295kg Bench

195kg Shoulder Press (standing)

Giant Log - 115kg - 19 reps

Steel Log - 300mm diameter - 175kg max - 12 reps

Deadlifted 3 Citroen Saxos at once from the back below the knees - combined weight 2750kg

Held a 1200kg Citroen Berlingo Van for 2mins 56 secs

Held a 1400kg BMW car - 76 secs

Held up 2 Citroen Saxos from the back combined weight 1700kg for 1 min 7 secs

Pulled 3, 20 tonne steel cage trailor lorries combined weight of over 60 tonne with harness and rope for 80 metres.

Good stuff!  Keep the stories coming.

I must say that Kaz is one of my personal all-time favorite strength athletes.  At his peak he had an amazingly rugged looking physique and (of course) the strength to back it up.

There is a pic on the net of him and J.P. which I just love.

I had that some poster but lost it.  I called him a couple months ago to have him send me out a few more.  Guess he forgot.  Have to call him again.  I like that poster.  I like the pic of him chalking his hands from behind.  His back is so thick and ripped and he is just standing there.

I actullay have allot of Strive going in.  It really is unique and it works really good.  Plus my location is in the middle of allot of potential lunch time customers so they want to get in and out quick.  The Strive has the ability to workout everything in a short amount of time.  I have Cybex, Flex, Nautilus, Icarian, and Precor going in too with all Ivanko weights and bars and accessories.  Allot of cardio with each machine having their own TV and sound.  So no cardio theater.  Cause of my location and as much as I love the metal plates I am going with the new colored Ivanko plates ez grip.  To much in money in equipment and flooring to have to worry about chips in the paint and dents in the floor.  I love the clanging of metal but I gotta do what I gotta do.  At least the Gold's gym I train at here is all metal and rust.

Yes thoe are right.  I never had really big legs.  I was a catcher for 18 years I got plenty of leg work from that.  In 1983 I was squatting and ruputured my L4 and L5 and haven't been able to do certain things.  I passed up an operation and instead wore a back brace for almost 2 years and therapy and 2 sets of tenses.  Everytime I put weight on top of me like that and bend I am out for a week.  My friends would see me all bent over and I was a wreck.  In fact when it happened I was working with MaxRep at Tequilla Willies.  I would literally just be standing there when all of a sudden my back would tighten up and I would fall to the ground.  So yes I had fairly small upper legs but great calves.  I didn't care that much about my legs.  They were strong enough to do whagt I had to do. I wasn't into BB so much where I cared if I was perfect all over.  I know guys will rag me on here but it worked fine for me.  And yes my right forearm was way bigger than my left.  I only trained my right forearm.  Rod Laver the tennis player was a client of my mom's.  I met him one day and noticed how big his left forearm was.  He said it 16" and his right forearm was just 13".  In my sport I only really needed my right arm.  SO yes those measurements are right on.  And yes I weighed 300.  In this pic I weigh 300 on the nose

You know whats funny is never in my entire life has anyone ever said I had small legs.  They just always said how big I was.  It is funny too when I would ask people how much I weighed most of them would say about 250 or 160.  When I told them I weighed 300 they couldn't believe it.  This pic right here was taken in Ft. Worth at Billy Bobs at an event I flew in for.  They were promoting me as the California Kid and weighing 300 lbs.  At the weigh-ins were all these people and newspaper people.  I stepped on the scale and I weighed 299.  My manager at the time was so pissed at me.  He promted me weighing 300 and he was pissed at me.

This event was awesome.  There was about 8,000 people there screaming their heads off.  I couldn't even hear the ref so go.  I just felt his hands lift.  It was so much fun.  Billy Bobs is definitely a place I would reccommend to go.  CHeck out the gift shop my pic should be hanging in there.  That was probably the most people to see an armwrestling event I been in except for the Nationals in San Diego.

Now I am trying to get back down to that weight.  Hopefully close by the end of the year.

Actually Stallone did get that from me.  I thnk her name was Judy Peterson who at the time was Marketign Director for Cannon Films.  I met her one day in her office.  I also met at that time the guy who wrote Good Guys Wear Black I think that was it.  It was a famous book and even though I didn't who he was at the time I later found out he was pretty famous.  Anyway, she told me about the meeting they had regarding the movie and product placement.  A thing not many people know but my friend who was in charge of marketing the film and also my partner in the IAC raised over $40 million dollars in product placement money for that movie.  INcluding $5 million from Brut by Faberge.  ANyway she told me how everyone like what I did with the hat and what I said one time in an interview so they stuck it in the movie.  Thiswas after I got fired off the film too.  I shoud have sued him.

That guy in the pic I don't know.  He was from Texas and I guess he was famous for breaking arms.  He would stand over them and laugh.  He did that just before me and it pissed me off.  I swear it was so loud in there.  And after he was pinned and he grabbed his arm you could hear a pin drop.  I should have laughed at him

Another thing that happened at that event was we were shooting some off footage for a promo piece.  Someone knocked over a light stand and it fell right on top of this lady.  The promoter my partner Marvin looked at me like oh shit here comes a lawsuit.  Well he jumps down and grabs this girl takes her outside and gave her $5,000 in cash.  5 minutes  he comes up on stage and says how much he loves Billy Bobs and Texas and throws $10,000 out into the audience.  The place went crazy.  I asked him what he was doing and he told me he needed to get everyones mind off the accident.  And it worked.  We also promoted that Stallone was going to show up to the event.  There were thousands outside the entrance of this place as we drove up in the limos .  They were waiting for Sly.  I was in the first limo.  SO I get out and am standing with a couple of other guys.  Well here comes the limo with Sly in it.  Everryone starts going crazy. The door opens and he quickly waves and then darts inside.  The place wasn't open yet.  SO we are in there by ourselves.  So then in about an hour or so the doors open and everyone is looking for Sly.  Marvin ends upo telling everyone he had to leave all of a sudden on an emergency and left out the side door.

The funny thing is that it really wasn't Sly it was a lookalike he hired.  This guy looked allot like SLy and at a quick glance he really did.  SO everyone thought it was him but it wasn't.  I wonder how many took pictures had them developed and looked closely at them and saw he was a fake.  That was funny.

Hard to believe that the little guy in the picture was known for breaking arms. It was kinda gross when Magnus Samulson broke that big aussies arm in WSM a bunch of years back.

Only,

Who was that big cat that played "Bull" in Over The Top??

Lord there is a thread on the General Topics board about Over The Top.  I talk about Rick and the part Bull Hurley.  And the guy in the pic with me wegihed abour 260.  He was an older guy too.  It is those guys with the experience you have to watch out for.  I have to scan a pic of me and Rick when I am pinning him in a tournament.

No me and never armwrestled for real.  We screwed around once.  He did wrestle I heard in New York but lost his first two matches.  I respect Kaz more than anything.  I am not sure I would want to armwrestle especially back then cause he is a god to way more people and I wouldn't want to do anything to screw with that.  If we were ever to seriously compete in an actual compettion back when I was competing I don't think he could have beat me.  I would have definitely put everyting I had into it.  He has massive hands and his brachialradialis(?) is one of the biggest I have ever seen and I thought I had a huge one.

Hey Onlyme did you ever meet a guy named Joe Ladnier? He was a powerlifting phenom in early to mid 80's then dropped off and is back again...anyways thats my ideal physique for being bulked...he's not tall (5'7" ish) but in 260's)

also did u meet Ryan Kennely at your show? How did he compare size wise to a guy like Kaz?

Never met Ladnier but I have seen him on covers and he is awesome  If he was 6' or taller he would the most incredible.  Ryan Kennely to is a big dude.  When I saw him he was weighing I think about 275.  He fluctuates so much.  He is tall, big and built really good for a powerlifter.  He is really a super nice guy too.  Very quiet and very polite.  I like him.  He is as tall as Kaz maybe an ich or so taller mayber.  But not near as thick.  Kaz is just so thick.  I remember him next to me in my Bronco and looking at his arms.  His brachradilalus was just huge.  That was one of my good points too.  I did allot of heavy hammers.

Hey Onlyme, did Kaz ever tell you about his goldfish eating ability ? He could swallow 50 whole (until he cut his gizzard). I knew Kaz vary well when he competed in Scotland in the 80's becaues Dougie Edmunds, myself and Jim Pollock were the driving force within the Strongman / Highland games circuit within the IFSA at the time. Did you hear about the time he cried after OD finished his overhead presses at the Pure Strength Challenge 1989 ? OD was pressing 100lb dumbells for reps but his back was damaged and he put them down after 2 reps. He picked them up again and pressed 18 more. Kaz was moved to tears at the courage of the man.

The quarter thing is somethign quite a few people can do.  Most people knwo Mike Dayton did it allot.  There is an old man on Kauai that does it too.  I know Kaz does the frying pan thing.  I don't know if he ever did it but I would think he could if he worked on it.
Title: Re: Kaz stories
Post by: Joe Roark on August 09, 2005, 04:26:24 AM
Onlyme,
The quarter feat is not possible as asked- using one hand.

To be candid I do not think it is possible- or at least has been done- using two hands without tampering.

There was an older man discussed on the GripBoard who claimed this, but when, unknown to him, a marked quarter was given to him, he tore it in half then handed it back. But it was not the same quarter.

i once saw a programme about a man who used to be a gymnast. He fell from the swings and broke his back, with docs telling him he would never walk again. He built his own rehab equiptment and became so strong he could catch 25kg balls on the back of his neck like a soccer ball when juggling them, and yes he bent a coin in half as the cameras watched. So it is my opinion that its possible

just dont ask me his name!

Ive always admired the hand strength of men like Brookfield, and Sorin. The ability to tear phone books, packs of cards and 16 penny spikes is awsome. Id love to have an upclose looks at their forearms and hands while they do feats like this.

On the coin issue, I'd give it a maybe. One important question that needs to asked is the type and age of the coin. While I've seen old and foreign coins that seemed like they could be bent, I doubt a modern recent American coin could be bent.

The metallurgy, etc... is just too good.

Title: Re: Kaz stories
Post by: onlyme on August 09, 2005, 09:54:21 AM
I didn't realize it was with one hand.  How did Mike Dayton do it.  Also, the phone book thing is impressive but there is a technique.  I could never do it till Kaz showed me the technique as did Gus Rethwisch.  I've seen very skinny people do this.  Allot of technique with bending the spine of the book

how they ever labelled someone that big "Flash" ill never know. But fuckin hell he was strong!
Title: Re: Kaz stories
Post by: onlyme on August 14, 2005, 03:33:29 AM
Yes I knew Scott.  I talked about him earlier.  He was huge.  And they called him Flash cause he pinned guys in a flash.  Hardly ever did his matchs last more than a half a second.  He was unreal quick.  He beat me the first time we met in Anaheim.  When I showed up I saw the competition and thought Ihad that tournament in the bag.  I went to the bathroom and saw Scott for the first time.  He was fucking huge.  He weighed about 360 I was 300.  Plus he is abolut 6'3" or 6'4".  Huge arms and huge forearms and brachradialus.

Well he beat the shit out me.  SO when the Over the Top world championships came up I knew it would be either me or him.  I wasn;t worried about to many others especially as strong as I was then.  I qualified for the World's at the Over the Top tourney in Denver.

Anyway, we knew that the final would have me and him in it if we worked it out right.  I beat a few guys then when me and Scott went.  I now this sounds weird but this is what happened.  The loser of our match would have to wrestle Clean Dean.  He was a guy I needed to get back at for when he beat me in Beverly Hills.  Me and Scott were both undefeated.  The whole thing was they wanted Cleave and Scott to be in the finals.  Well I wanted to beat CLeave then the would have put me in the finals with Scott.  SInce it appeared Scott wasn't going to lose.  SO me and Scott agreed that I would throw the match between us so I wouldn't use any energy and be strong for Cleve.  SO when we went up we looked at each other and I literally had a zero load and let Scott pin me.  Scott is in the finals now.  So my next match is against Cleave.

Well they called out names but what I did was I let Cleave go up first and have to stay up there standing up for a long time while I waited till the last second in fact they were going to disqualify me.  But I did this cause Cleave was about 6'6" 660 lbs is what he weighed at that time.  He had a hard time standing up and was getting tired.  I needed every advantage as I could get.  Anyway we hooked up and the match lasted almost 1:30 seconds.  It was unreal keeping this guy from pinning me.  He so fat but he was so strong.  At the time he was a 9 time world wristwrestling champ.  Well anyway I won.  They raised my hand and called me the winner.

Well then the promoter who is not supposed to have any say so in thematches or anything came up on stage and said I touched my shoulder to my arm and I should have been disqualified.  SO they gave th match to Cleave.  Everryone went crazy yelling shit and throwing tuff on stage.  My best freind almsot wnet up and hit the guy.  It was unreal.  The judges even came up to me after the event and said it was bullshit.  In fact one of the refs complained enough where the promnoter pulled him out of the event after that.

I complained to him and he said to me if Cleave agrees to pull again then we can have a rematch.  Shit I went and asked Cleave and he said no way in the world.  he had his own heart doctor that travled with him and he said to me that I had to leave cause he had to treat him.  Oh well.  Scott ended up beating the shit out of him

In the truckers division is where Rick Zumwalt and John Brezenk competed for the $100,000 Volvo truck (the one n the movie).  That match was great.  Rick cheated so bad it almost caused a fight.  It was great.  That event lasted 19 hours.  SOme of us that lasted till the end were sleeping and had to be woke up when our match was called.  They had guards at the doors so people coldn't leave.  The extras in the movie I mean in the crowd.  The got feed pizza for the whole day.  And no one got paid.  I pity those people.

I'm not 100% sure but I think this is me going up to the table to wrestle Scott.  I had some really good pics that the staff photgrpaher from Over the Top gave me but lost them who knows where.  I know most of them Tony Halme through out when he moved.  I had some stuff stored at his place.

Glenn Ross was a bouncer at a bar and used to pick up and throw people out 2 at a time - 1 with each arm. One night he was savagely attacked by a mob of 7-8 with baseball bats and was told that if it wasnt for the fact he was so big and strong he would have died not long after the attack happened.

Great stories Onlyme

Did you hear about Tony Halme being attacked by a gang of muggers in Spain several years ago?

One day, on their holiday, Tony and his wife had been out window shopping and eating out. Late at night his wife felt tired so she went to the hotel a bit earlier and Tony stayed to enjoy his beer. When he left a bar at 1am, a bunch of Moroccoan guys had gone to him to "ask for autographs". He then noticed a hand in his belt pouch and saw his wallet in someone's hand. Then that someone passed the wallet on to someone else and then to someone else... and in no time it had disappeared (the usual trick)

He then grabbed the guy who'd pickpocketed him and asked where his wallet was, because he didn't want to lose his credit cards, driving license, professional boxing license (yes, that's what he does nowadays) etc , and about 1400$... T

The guy refused to answer, so he broke his arm. He asked again, the guy didn't answer, so he broke the other arm. Then someone hit him with a bottle in the back of his head, so Tony knocked him out (unconcious). Then they all attacked him with steel pipes, knives and bottles and hit him everywhere, especially in his legs and back. He managed to do (at least) the following:

Broke someone's nose, dislocated someone's knee caps with a swift kick in the knees, knocked out one by hitting him in the throat, and broke the jaw of one of the muggers.

The injuries he suffered were quite bad too. He got his ear hacked off with a steel pipe, he was stabbed in the butt cheek, he had bad bruises in his hamstrings and in his back. Took 38 stiches altogether to fix him up...

According to Halme he'd been fighting 14-15 guys at worst and managed to get six of the guys before the rest of them ran away and the police came (exaggerated? In an earlier report it said that there were 12 of them and he KO'd 4)

Halme lost his wallet, the money in it, and the golden jewellery he was wearing

WOW never heard that one.  I wouldn't be surprised, Tony is allot like me.  I like fighting more than one guy at a time too.  I used to try to get jumped.  I never did but in bars guys would be in pairs or more and someone would always smart off to me to try to get me to do something.  In those situations I just grab whomever is in my path.  I really don't like the fighting thing.  I have put a few in the hospital and all that did was keep me up at night wondering if they are okay or if I am going to jail or getting sued.  Luckily nothing ever happened.

Yes Tony is a scary guy if you don't know him.  He has a heavy Arnold sounding accent and being 6'4" and over 300 with a bald head with an arrow shaved in it he can be intimadating.  Plus he has that Viking attitude.  He had that big loud K5 Blazer with no top (1976 or so) with huge tires on it and a hand grenade hanging from the rear view mirror.  He has a pit bull that he chained to the inside of the truck.  The truck was jacked up really high and you couldn't look into it unless you were really tall.  So if anyone would try to steal it his dog would go crazy.  It was a great car alarm.  I haven't seen him in years.

I will publish it, but I want all the royalities b/c it is going to make some serious $$$$$$$.

Man am I glad Onlyme is on our getbig web site and not some other douchebag place like Gayhem or BBing.com........

Man you know everybody. I'd like to sit down and hear some of your stories. I'll bet you've got some classics.

Thanks guy.  You know I go through my head and I have some really good ones.  But I want to wait to see what happens to me physically.  I think when I lose all my weight and get back into the mix a book would be good.  Cause then I really did something.  YOu know.  I think maybe it could be inspirational.  But right now I am a no body and no one would care about what I've done.  So I will wait till I hit my goal then I can do it.  But I better hurry cause I may drop dead soon with my luck.

All your stories would make a fantastic book. It doesn't matter that you believe you are a nobody. People love to read stories about different celebrities etc irrespective of who writes the book. If you can put on such a fantastic bodybuilding show, then there is no doubt you could get someone to publish a book.

Nice tales of adventure guys. Cool pics as well. I have some Kaz photos from the 1981/82 Sr. Nationals in Dayton, Ohio if I remember correctly. I'll see if I can find them.

no problems.  I haven't seen that is a lot of years.  Kaz is definitely an awesome character.  It was fun when I was with him.  He is actually kinda of funny at times.  I'll never forget him in my Bronco when we got pulled over by the cops.

People just have no idea how friggin' strong he was. WOW. The only reason he didn't win more Strongest Man championships is they changed the rules so he wasn't allowed to compete any more.

Kaz is kinda like Arnold in that when you see him you have this sense of Awe.  i've met a lot of famous people, but these guys are on a whole other level.

In my last post I wanted to say how big that muscle was in person.  Mine is big but his is huge.  It is called the brachiradialus but I know I spelled it wrong.  You get that huge from doing heavy hammer curls. And that is a very primary muscle when you armwrestle.
