Title: can you incline press 4 plates? (405 #)
Post by: judochoke on November 08, 2010, 04:12:55 PM
i am able to incline press three plates for a set of six, with a little help from my spotter. it just boggles my mind thinking about being able to to 4  plates on each side. three plates seems like it wants to bury me. there is no leverage, you cant use your ass or back like you can do on bench presses. the pros do 4 plates like its nothing. anyone doing 4 plates??

If you can do 3 plates for 6, you're well on your way. I used to do 3 plates for 6-8 reps on incline and could get 365 for a couple. I blew out my pec but no doubt would have gotten there within a few years.

Most I ever got on incline with no spot was 315 for 6 -  clean - bodyweight of 205.  Can hit 365 for 1.

Flat I can get 315 x 9 and max out at 405 with no spot.

Exactly.  I'm 35 and as strong as ever, seriously - you get stronger with a little age, but don't want to get injured.

So, I will keep my limit to what I can get at 315.  If its 4-6, fine.  After that, I don't see the benefit considering the high liklihood of injury.

I think that depends on if one does steroids. I've been told by a few older guys at the gym that they got weaker as they aged, mind you they were in their 40s and natural. I'm weaker but i also used to juice so who knows. Testosterone production has a huge impact on that and obviously as you age your levels decrease.

you gotta be smart,, ego lifting will self destruct you, so many people train sloppy and too heavy for the muscle mass they are carrying,, work the muscle not ego or tnedoins

No but I'm not much of a bencher, flat or incline.  I don't even know what you're talking about.  "Use your ass."  ???

I'm 35 and feel as strong as ever.   I dont do roids, but have been lifting hard since 17 y/o and and built like a tank.   Its in the genes.

But for me, its all about beer, slayer, megadeth, red bulls, kit kats, and just going nuts for 45 min to an hour - no screwing around.
