Post by: Coach is Back! on February 19, 2011, 03:35:54 PM
Bench (real one not a "machine")

135 x 5
225 x 3
315 x 3

Going high reps on bench is what screws peoples shoulders up.

Totally false. You mean Oly bar?

Yes
Sorry, Coach. My mistake. Haven't done the Oly bar in years. I'm old, like you, and my shoulders can't do much these days. DB chest-press, once-a-week: we  gotta /hafta do/ what we can.   :)

Really depends on how I feel but usually BB only because I like starting with a power exercise and keep my reps between 1-5. usually the second exercise is DB work (flat) either bench or floor press.

The thing about bench pressing that fucks up the shoulders is that the glenoid cavity (not your brown star) is NOT supported in any way, shape or form during the lift. Your shoulders are hanging off of the bench.

THe humerus is lightly seated in the glenoid cavity and held together by tendons of the rotator cuff.

Floor pressing would be a safer bet, but nobody really runs around with shirts saying "Floor Press Club"- or do they/

What is your reasoning behind this?

Generally shoulder (or joint problems in general)  problems occur with by just being repetitious with an exercise, ware and tear if you will. I've never had any real joint problems with the exception of them just aching from getting older, even to this day. I have had meniscus surgery and need surgery on the other meniscus, but thats expected when you get older....with anyone.

Bench (real one not a "machine")

135 x 5
225 x 3
315 x 3
365 x 2
405 x 1
455 x 1

The remainder of training is a secret.

BTW, fuck you "GWAR" hahahahaha!

What's the rationale behind a very light warmup with very light weight?  Is it simply to acclimate the central nervous system?  Seems too light to do much of anything, even for a warmup.

The light warm is simply a light warm up. No need to to wear yourself out with some horseshit like 135 x12, etc.... It absolutely kills your big lifts when you train that way.

I don't know this guy but he might not bench much more than your 455lbs. Might be less!

Van, a bench shirt isn't going to add almost 300lbs to a lift.

All the guys with rotator cuff problems I spoke had one thing in common, they were heavy ass benchers. All the competition guys with pec tears had the same thing in common. Lots of well documented cases on this (http://www.pectear.com/faq/faq.htm) page. One of those cases was Berry DeMey.
There's no reason to bench if you're a bodybuilder, and I'm not the first one saying that.

His own words:

Quote
Jay Fry: To be honest I have bench pressed 340lbs for reps of 10 without a shirt and I have also bench pressed 455lbs without a shirt at 181lbs. However. I am focused on benching the most weight in the world with a shirt and benching RAW (without a shirt) isn't my goal.

He ain't shit compared to your best lift as a youngster. Ain't shit! 535!!!!!!!1!11

Van, a bench shirt isn't going to add almost 300lbs to a lift.

See above.  ;)

It can add a lot more than 300. 400 is "common" nowadays, at least for the heavier guys.

I didn't say anything about pec tears. I know pec tears can occur, I've had two. But rotator cuff injuries can be due to several things...normal ware and tear, traumatic injury like a blow or fall and repetitive motions, ex: pitchers, tennis players, swimmers, etc. Not saying that a rotator cuff can't happend but it's unlikely. Don't confuse rotator cuff injuries to a labral injury or labral tear.
