Hey Getbig! I need some help!
8)

I did a personal training course a couple of years ago, absolute waste of time. 98 percent of the stuff they teach you is just rubbish and wouldn't take an intelligent person longer than their first few months of training to realize it's uselessness

I knew a few people in college who went through A.C.E. (American Council of Exercise).
At the time, it sounded like a quick, inexpensive way to get certified.
The good news is that most of the general public has no idea as to the differences between different certifications.

Of course, it's just waste of time and money. I know that.
But my wife wanna do aerobics classes and then personal training too and she needs an american certification too. Only the paper of course... Group trainer and personal trainer.
So maybe the best and fastest would be only online... Which would be the cheapest, fastest?
-
ask goodrum, that's probably where he got his certification ( at the cheapest-lowest quality certification site)

This right here ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I've heard ACE is the cheap and easy route. I think it's the fastest one that is still respected by most institutions.
I did ACSM which is supposedly the hardest, along with NASM... if you know your stuff you could probably just walk in and take the test. They WAY overrate how hard those things are, and are purposefully vague / misleading about what, exactly, is going to be on the test, so that you'll buy all their books.
-
I think Melvin Goodrum might have a good idea of which online vendors provide good certifications.

Hmm. You're on your own there Steve, I'm really not sure. I did my course in addition to my anatomy and physiology studies. Plenty of places do quick courses, but they all cost an arm and a leg nowadays.
-
I don't know if it's the cheapest but check out ISSA.

I am pretty sure that they can get this one pretty quick....some guys that are 18 and 19 have these at the Gym. ;) A month or maybe less.

this is funny ;D

There used to be one called SFPA (synergy fitness professionals and associates) was a couple hundred, all online courses and then the test, thats the one I did. but I think think the company went bankrupt a few years back.

You built Steve all up to think he can do it on the cheap then let him down right at the end with the bankruptcy ;D

That reminds me a story I once heard about Vince.
Word on the street is that he did work in a Zoo once for a couple of weeks. One of the Zookeepers asked him after a few days on the job, "Would you shag that gorilla for five grand?"
Goodrum was unsure so he compromised "I tell you what. I'll do it under three conditions. None of my family, Vissy or friends find out. I don't have to kiss it. Lastly, you give me a couple of weeks to get the money together."

he abandonned it i guess, he was too dumb. He and his whore 'wife' need even lower standards. Give them one or two more years and i see her leaving him for an american, obese and wealthy schmoe once he cant pay for his drug abuse anymore, and all his dreams of becoming the next arnold s. are shattered.

Maybe... ;D I have 4 jobs now...unfortunately. Personal Trainer, front desk at the gym, bouncer, working at a GNC... But at least now I'm making some money...as a top15 202 IFBB Pro on the world I was only spending money and made nothing...sad but true.
-
Why get a cert?
Just lie
Seriously, I'm not even making a joke here
You know how much time I wasted on my ACSM just for none of my employers to not give a shit?
-
I think the one Goodrum has was like 70 bucks.
Actually my first certification was 30 bucks but this was almost 10 years ago. AMFPT was my first certification. Just to let you know that its also George Farah's as well.
www.amfpt.com, Steve and you're good to go. $79.95 and you're ready to party. If you need any other certifications, Gregg has combo packs. Don't forget to get your PT insurance

At first life in america was like in the movies right? and as time goes.... reality settles in.
Once the girl is gone, it will be time for the next step g4p, as you obviously wont stop steroids, considering your mood depends of your drug use.

Btw guys here is a dirty secret about the personal training business (whether it be at a chain or self employed)
Like, half of the trainers have no sort of certs
I can tell you of three at my gym who aren't certified
Btw, is it a coincidence that those three are hot girls?
NO BECAUSE PERSONAL TRAINING IS ALL ABOUT FUCKING SALES AND NOT ABOUT KNOWING WHAT TYPE OF MOVEMENTS OCCUR IN THE SAGGITAL PLANE!!!
-
At first life in america was like in the movies right? and as time goes.... reality settles in.
yes, because he was spending money he brought over from eastern europe in his underwear (that he made by selling dbol). then , after he had to get a job (after 3 weeks), he realized he was a short euro midget whose sociopolitical background equipped with no life skills, so he had to resort to being a manwhore?

as i said it, these are the obvious next steps. But the whore will leave, first.

One more thing, tell Gregg you're an IFBB pro and he'll likely knock some money off it or do something extra for you. This is one time your card might come in handy

NCCPT

Fresh out of college I got certified to be a personal trainer. I have a degree in exercise science. It was problalby the biggest bs of certs but it worked like a charm. Cost fifty bucks got to take the test online! You take it as many times as you want. I didn't look at any of the coursework because I needed it right away.
http://www.expertrating.com/personal-trainer-certification.asp
I'm pretty sure this is it.
Right now I'm taking a certification for medical excercise specialist. Course material is hard as fuck. I feel like I'm back in college taking kinesiology and that crap again. Cost 1000 bucks.

Your body 'is bullshit' as well. And without the drugs, your body is nothing, your personnality is nothing, you are nothing. Which means your whole character 'is bullshit'. If you ever face this reality it's going to be tough, especially living in another country where nobody, not even family can help.
It means you absolutely cant get off steroids considering your whole life revolves around your bloated character and your hypocritical grin / smile. Cant be a bouncer anymore, cant be a pt anymore, get depressed because of withdrawals and test shutting down... Which means you will always need money to pay for drugs and will have to always stay on. I guess you dont even remember what it's like emotionnaly speaking not being on steroids anymore.
And it also means you will do anything for the money.
If when the girl leaves you for a rich american fat dude and a green card, what options are left for you?
At this point you ll be ready for g4p.

Answers in broken english wont help either. Not sure what you attempted to say but i"m not trying anything, it's just a simple question.
So, what will be your options once the shit hits the fan?

Steve, I'm glad that you're finally making some money. But you don't need to work all of those jobs. Contact my buddy Bedros Keiilian and learn to maximize your money from the fitness industry. You got a fucking IFBB pro card and a respectable physique. Now use your head and go make some real money

Just get one from Palumbo..
I'm sure he's ready to negotiate prices.
Or, just get a color copier and a certification form...

ISSA is 6 bills. You can complete the course in a night if you have half a brain.
Does she have to carry liability insurance? Will she have to maintain CEU's? First Aid? AED?
It can get costly.

i spent like 3-4 months, 3-4 hrs studying every weekday.
ridiculous how, despite their little KSA list, I really had no idea what was going to be on the test until i stepped inside the booth.
i even forgot my wallet and ID the day of, had to reschedule and pay half the test fee all over again. :'(

There are different ways of being 'nice' (genuinely helpful i d say) to someone.
Sometimes you help people more by slaping them than being 'nice' with them.
And beware of 'nice' people. (especially when they re on steroids and have whitened teeth and constantly smile)
There are a lot of people who act very nice in front of everyone but who in fact just wait for them to fall and take their place, perfectly knowing how to lure them , or not giving them the informations that could truly help them even if they are in their possession. Openly misguiding them while sporting a constant fake smile on their face. They re very proud of their way of surviving, they think they re smarter than everyone else.

"Just lie"? Damn dude, have a little integrity. Even Dr's have to have certs and CEU's after they get their degree and doctrate. Its on going and never ending. That's what seperates knowledgable trainers from thieves.

what separates knowledgeable trainers from thieves is knowledge, not a piece of paper that signifies less than nothing. ACSM CPT is more widely respected than any other base-level personal trainer certification... and is a complete joke.
-
You don't lie about certifications because if you get caught more than likely you're going to court in cases against the boards of those organizations you lied about being a part of. For example, you are a trainer/nutritionist yet have 0 certifications and someone actually calls you on it. BOOM, now you are in legal trouble just like that. You're better off just using a more clever name like a nutritional consultant or something like that to get around the legal headaches honestly....

Continuing Education Units
Well, I'm not sure what difference that is supposed to make. At the time I completed my certification, which is the most prestigious base-level PT cert in existence, I can tell you I didn't know shit. I wasn't required to know the FIRST thing about exercise technique, which is the most important part of training. I knew a bunch of random facts that were, in no way, synthesized into a coherent training philosophy. Nothing useful.
-
Check out NETA. I think they have group and PT certs.
Yes, they have. Way too expensive in my case. Thanks tho! ;)
-
This is the way I look at it....if someone knows very little about training I personally don't think they should even get a cert just yet. They should take at least a year with a reputable and knowledgable trainer and learn from them and mentor from them. Then go for a cert. I have a mentor (for S&C) and I also take interns who are finishing their degrees 2-4 times per year. After you get enough basic, practical experiance then go for a cert. I have a kid out here from Virginia right now with me for a 4 week internship.

no you just simply get off anonymously talking shit and belittling people from a distance. Its beyond obvious that you feel very badly about yourself. It is really not more in depth at all than this.

Business is business and you need to make money, I understand that but if you're doing it ONLY to make money without any concern for your client, then do something else. This is precisely why people think trainers just rip people off.

There's a movement going on right now in the United States that is going to make it illegal to own your own business without a college degree/other regulations. Guys like you and Coach will have to forfeit your business to the "Hierarchy" or get a real education.

come on guys, why be lazy??? Put the time in and get a REAL certification like one from american college of sports medicine (A.C.S.M) or national strength and conditioning association (N.S.C.A). Most gyms wont accept the expert rating "cert" anyways. I studied for the N.S.C.A certified personal trainer test and was quite happy once i got certified. Was it a hard test? YES!!! But was well worth it! Stop being lazy fucks guys!!! Handle your shit!!

-
LMAO @ "a real education" hahaha. Gotta laugh at the "learning from a pro bodybuilder" hahaha
I'd rather get my steroid info from him than from you.
As for "training advice" from an IFBB pro: LMFAO.
Last week in the gym i saw how one 70 year old competitive bodybuilder had payed for a private training lesson from Mr Nippon, 30 years old.
Sure Mr Nippon (training since 2005) is much bigger than that 70 year old who had been training for the last 50, maybe 55 years.
How in the hell can anyone be so stupid and ask for training advice from someone who has trained one tenth of the time you have, but is OBVIOUSLY a big drug abuser?
Now i'd pay 3000 Yen for cycle info from Mr Japan, if only to laugh about it, but not pay 3 Yen for training info from him, he doesn't know more than the usual Gold's Gym trainer who will spot you for free.
-
Listen people. Don't take financial advice from a stock broker who also delivers Pizza. And don't take training advice from a guy who has 4 different jobs. Now drug advice might be a different story.

That sentence makes no sense.
It means training isn't his FIRST job. He does it on the side. More so, he probably does very little of it and rely's on the drugs/drug response to get himself on stage. Which by the way is still pretty fucking impressive. But not someone I would really give a shit about "training wise".
-

Being a PT is rarely more than a side job, if you're not Gunnar Peterson that is.
Getting a PT makes sense in two scenarios: You're a total noob and need guidance or you're a lazy fuck and need someone to push you and you don't have a training partner or don't want to wait and take turns during training.
Training is not rocket science, it doesn't even matter how you train, as long as it is consistent and you make progress of any sort. It's idiotic for an experienced lifter to pay for a PT.
-
What's the point of paying for a phoney certification if no-one even recognizes a real one? You might as well make up letters off the top of your head and say you're certified with that:
"Oh yeah I'm registered with the BGBLX association and have a grade X certification from UMOM".
Some of the hokey shit PT's get clients to do is a joke: unweighted incline press-ups on the smith machine bar, one-legged balancing on exercise balls.
Seems like most of the certified PT's are fucking clueless and/or enjoy making clients look like tools.

Well, you should know that the AMFPT is endorsed by the NPC Vice President Jim Rokell and includes IFBB pro graduates such as George Farah, and Danny Padilla. BTW, The owner and founder of the AMFPT is Greg Ladd who won the AAU Mr. North America and the AAU Mr. International.
Also the courses are taught at Georgia Perimeter College. Price doesn't always mean everything.
