Title: Protein Requirements
Post by: Roger Bacon on September 05, 2011, 05:27:53 AM
I only consume about 100g protein per day (food sources, eggs etc, no shakes).  I'm just passed being a tiny tit/twink, but I can't move on.

Will upping my protein intake change anything?

It will change the amount of protein you eat.

it won't do shit.  bbing is BS!  i'm 5'10", carrying about 215 now due to relocation, but i'm usually 200-203 when dieting with good size.  here is the deal: some days i only eat one piece of fish or a chicken breast with a 12" subway, lose fat but keep pretty much all my muscle.  bbing is ALL DRUGS.  i have no clue why the fuck they eat 6-8 meals daily.  and keep in mine i ate like this when i played football.

Depends on alot of factors.

how much you weigh?

train alot?

age?

juiced/natrual?

all these factors change how fast your metabolism and protein synthesis is and how high your protein requirement is.

Thanks for the info, I'm up to 200 from 190 a few weeks ago (all fat), 21, natural.  Probably around 18 percent bodyfat? I'm training a three day split twice a week.

at that age and training that much your metabolism should be pretty high. you're pretty light though.

I'd say around 200-250 grams.

thats 4-5 meals with 50 grams in each meal. not too hard to get in. or 3 big meals with ~70 grams in each meal. what ever works..

If you're natural that's more than enough protein you need. If you're stuck, you probably need more calories though. Then again, being natural, you won't gain that much more muscle anyway, you're probably close to your limit. But if you want to get even fatter, up your protein.....just look at bigach.

He eats way more than 100 gr a day, that's why he is so fat. Remember when he posted his daily diet recently? Which is why I believe he is natural...he is just getting fat with that intake, if he were on something, he'd still keep gaining.

If you don't take any drugs, then increasing it to 200 or 250 g will definitely boost your size and strength. This is assuming you are lifting hard and recovering OK. You'll still build muscle and get stronger on lower doses, but not as much as on the increased dose, esp. if part of that protein comes from red meat.

Yes yes, the "muscle confusion" principle... to keep your muscle "guessing" and keep gaining.  :-X

Of course it all depends how you spread it through the day. 250grams means 8 or 9 meals every 3 hours. So set your alarm clock at night.

You can eat it over 3 or 4 meals, np.

Are you a specialist or a general practitioner, Dr Dutch?

Fascinating.

Perhaps you should start a blog to document such revelations, I'm sure it would be popular.

Damn, and Dorian Yates keeps 225lbs with that technique, you have to try harder on the visualization.

same here and i think the total protein i consume every day is about 90 gms or even a little less.. and i seriously dont think i will see any difference if i increase this.. if you are natural and you have been training for many years sure you have already reached your natural limits or you are very close to it so your main goal must be to maintain what you have..

Thanks for the advice, I'm trying out 200g a day now.  I'll let you know.  I weight 207 today, 5'11.  Maybe if I got back down to around 180 I'd have a killer physique underneath.

If you don't see any difference, you can simply drop it back. But at least then you'll know for sure, rather than never trying it and wondering. Give it a few weeks, though. If you want to get leaner, you can drop your carbs. It should make you more alert and aggressive, which will help in the gym.
