i think coach is advocating a giant set, not a superset. a super set is where you train difference muscles, giving each time to rest while hitting the other. a giant set is a bunch of exercises that hits one particular muscle.
i might be mistaken though

Your theory is sound but the execution is off. Typically you have several options for creating a compound set, for example you can pair up a free weight exercise and then stack it with a machine counterpart (since the muscle still has life and this allows you to hit it without working your stabilizers) or you can work a midrange/stretch to a contracted type (I LOVE doing this for biceps, goes like incline db curls for stretch one arm then move directly into db unsupported concentration curls. or for chest, decline db flyes then move directly into standing crossovers- very effective for growth. You have to be careful to accentuate the stretch on stretching movements and accentuate the contraction on peak contraction type movements)
My personal favorite is the tri-set. Difficult to pull off, but it goes like this- take your bodypart and find an exercise which allows you to target it. Usually a machine works well. Then hit a 2nd exercise which is similar in movement but allows some assistance from other bodyparts. Then a 3rd movement which again allows even more assistance from surrounding muscles.
Tri-sets work best for quads I have found and not really any other muscles. I have tried with no success. For everything else there are super sets, compound sets, drop sets, rest pause and forced reps. No worries, you can ALWAYS do something.
For quads I have found drop sets and tri sets work better than anything by FAR. Tri sets go like this- Leg extensions followed by Leg Presses followed by Back Squats. Simple, effective, hard as FUCK!!! Basically extensions allow you to isolate an fatigue your quads, then you move into Leg Presses (with a narrow stance) which allow some assistance from hips and hamstrings followed by Back Squats which allow assistance from hips hams calves glutes and lower back. You are able to COMPLETELY take your quads to total failure, it's really quite intense.
Why the fuck did I just type all of that....I hope some of you fuckers actually use some of this and not just come back with "religion of peace" or copy and paste links to shitty threads I have made in the past...

I plan out my work outs pretty carefully, in fact my usual routine for biceps is either all preachers or preachers and curls and sometimes I will throw in some cable work, but mostly it's preachers and curls, so it's your "routine," the reason I'm mocking you is that I figured this routine out when I was 15, and you continue to perpetuate this idea that you are sought out for your expertise in training while being in expert in training is something like being an expert at dodge ball, and your real value to your pupils is your knowledge of the application and your ability to connect them to... drugs. And you ridicule gh15 because of the importance he places on proper drug use because he's giving something away that you charge for, you're a lying liar, hey why r ur tights on fire, liar liar spandex on fire

And before anyone chimes in, yes, I know that planning a workout won't give me huge arms or make me a Mr. Olympia ::) ::) I am sure planning or not planning plays a minuscule part in overall growth development. however, it just makes me feel better to walk in and know what Im doing.

Neither is mine. I'm an S&C coach at 2 schools both CIF winners in football and wrestling along with my private shit, could you imagine if I went in without a plan and told 180 kids to just go to the weight room and just do whatever and then for speed just run?

Yes key is small increments of progression on a somewhat regular basis which I think some sort of structure in your workouts helps with (gives you something to remember/do each time). People that do that "Durr I train instinctively" "Keep the body guessing!!!" gayness/bullshit tend to instinctively train Chest/Arms/Chest/Arms/etc. or be on a bunch of drugs in my experience.

it wont give you even 17 inch arms in condition aka 6-7% unless on hormones my friend,, and 5'10 ,,,remember the 5'6 fella will have much much smaller arms on hormones,s, he wont sit 17 inch arm 6-7% unless use more MORE hormones than the 5'10...

I had some major issues with alcoholism/depression in the past, which is what you were seeing before. Since then I have cleaned up. In the last 12 weeks I have drank maybe 3 times (all 3 socially). I have also gotten a lot of my size back and plan on competing.
I fixed my pec issues thanks to Coach and Dyslexic. I had major problems with my right rotator cuff. A shit ton of shoulder rehab work, ice and stretching has completely changed my chest. I actually have a chest now, and I could not be happier.
Right pec is still flatter than my left a little bit but it's not bad at all. I am actually extremely happy! It was well worth the effort. I actually FEEL my chest when I train now, it's incredible. I have lifted since I was 14 and I NEVER really felt contractions in my chest. I have to really give props to the guys who helped me out here.
Also Chick was absolutely spot on about taking an almost false grip when doing chest and focusing on contracting your chest, not just blindly pressing the weight up. It really does work! When I do decline bb press for example I allow the weight to almost float in my hands while pushing, it's more PUSHING and less PRESSING if that makes sense, and the results have been amazing.
Also cannot say enough about wearing gloves. I bought a pair at the gym with padding in the palm and wrist support, they really take pressure off my palms and allow me to concentrate on pushing with a light grip, it's made all the difference in the world.

I have a similar issue actually, my write rotator cuff is a little bit fucked, and I suspect it's because I a)masturbate 3 times a day, and b) don't do proper stretching and rehab work on. My whole right shoulder is fucked, that trap is smaller too lol, I got it to be like my left side for a while after not masturbating for 3 weeks, then I went back to being a sex fiend and it shrunk again.
I'm glad ur doing better in regards to ur problems. Btw, what helped me was doing cable work to isolate my cuff, but I;m not on aas so I gotta go easy on that or else I'll strain it

Yes key is small increments of progression on a somewhat regular basis which I think some sort of structure in your workouts helps with (gives you something to remember/do each time). People that do that "Durr I train instinctively" "Keep the body guessing!!!" gayness/bullshit tend to instinctively train Chest/Arms/Chest/Arms/etc. or be on a bunch of drugs in my experience.
I agree. Like I said, in the grand scheme of things, it probably won't make such a huge difference; however, it won't hurt either. Planning over not planning is probably more beneficial than walking around in the gym aimlessly.

it wont give you even 17 inch arms in condition aka 6-7% unless on hormones my friend,, and 5'10 ,,,remember the 5'6 fella will have much much smaller arms on hormones,s, he wont sit 17 inch arm 6-7% unless use more MORE hormones than the 5'10...

GH15, you're missing my point. Even if it won't get you 17 inch arms in condition, its still better to walk in with a set plan, as opposed to spending 3 hours in the gym wandering around aimlessly. i don't have time to wander around aimlessly. I don't want to. You seem to be missing the keypoint here. And youre talking about someone who wants 17-18 inch arms and wants to be conditioned/ripped. Some people just want to go into the gym, get in a workout and get out. Thus, as I stated before, walking in with a somewhat plan is better than having no plan at all. I stand by what I'm saying.

Interesting that on the wiki page I see a reference to sleeping positions. I have slept on my stomach for YEARS and my buddy used to tell me it was why I had issues. I just can not sleep on my back or side, even when I try I never get restful sleep. I have learned to sleep on my stomach with some pillows propped in such a way as to keep my shoulders more at my side, but still I really do have to sleep on my stomach.

I agree that workouts fail because of lack of planning, not whether you superset or do straight sets. Its the lack of planning that has people roam around in the gym searching for exercises to do. I write out my workouts the night before so I can go from one exercise to another.
And before anyone chimes in, yes, I know that planning a workout won't give me huge arms or make me a Mr. Olympia ::) ::) I am sure planning or not planning plays a minuscule part in overall growth development. however, it just makes me feel better to walk in and know what Im doing.
I have a pre-plan workout. Always. I pretty know exactly what I'm going to do. Always. But the chances of me completed a workout exactly as planned is ZERO. A big ZERO! I never get to do a workout as planned. There's always somebody -- somebody -- that will get in the way. Just last week a guy was on the one squat rack for an hour. Yes, a solid hour. Yes, he actually did squats... but also did cleans, deads, military press, lunges, curls.... At least this guy was working hard unlike the 99% that just fart around. I'll give hime that. But still.... The hammer chest? In perpetual use. As soon as one group of ass clowns get off another pack jumps right on with their cell phones all out an in use. And most of the time there's too many of them to work in. And if it's an oldster they really get offended. I sometimes push my way in because I usually just do one set on an exercise but it's kind of an extended set.
I use to get pissed off. Really pissed off. Well, I still do but I just look at it as life. That's how life is. Rarely do things go as planned. And I pretty much go through life pissed off. Life pisses me off.

I use to never wear an ipod until I started training at a public gym a couple of years ago. It helps shut things out and discourages people from talking to you. Also, it gives you an excuse to ignore them when they do. So many times I can hear someone try to talk to me. Sometimes they'll even tap me on the shoulder and I'll just smile and nod like a deaf person and then walk away. Plus, the gym music sucks!
Though I'm an asshole, I'm not a complete asshole. There's some really good folks there and I always make time for them. It's gotten to the point that I don't really like being around people anymore and take a dim view of humanity and it's future. But I still try to cling to some part of my slowly dying sense of humanity. I don't want to be like so many that are just so jaded, desensitized and inured to other people that they can just go about their business while some oldster has just gotten her purse stolen or some girl is getting stabbed on the street by her ex-boyfriend. Sure, they'll film it to post on YouTube. But do something? Forget it.
