Title: BET's Robert Johnson To Obama: Stop Attacking The Wealthy
Post by: Coach is Back! on October 03, 2011, 09:25:57 AM
BET founder Robert Johnson on the "FOX News Sunday" program: "Well, I think the president has to recalibrate his message. You don't get people to like you by attacking them or demeaning their success. You know, I grew up in a family of 10 kids, first one to go to college, and I've earned my success. I've earned my right to fly private if I choose to do so.

"And by attacking me it is not going to convince me that I should take a bigger hit because I happen to be wealthy. You know, it is the old -- I think Ted and Fred and I we both sort of take the old Ethel Merman approach to life. I've tried poor and I tried rich and I like rich better. It doesn't mean that I am a bad guy.

"I didn't go in to business to create a public policy success for either party, Republican or Democrat. I went in business to create jobs and opportunity, create opportunity, create value for myself and my investors. And that's what the president should be praising, not demagoguing us simply because Warren Buffet says he pays more than his secretary. He should pay the secretary more and she will pay more."http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2011/10/02/bets_robert_johnson_to_obama_stop_attacking_the_wealthy.html

Once in awhile you will see a black public figure actually have some balls and talk about the wrongs of the democratic party/ obama. To bad more of them don't speak up.

Great message, but lets face it Obama isn't going to listen to him.  He's going to continue to pander to his voting base......just like Bush did......just like Clinton did, etc, etc...

the wealthy are not self made as some of their ego's would like to think.  They had all kinds of government support to help them get to where they were today.  Even the little things they do not think of.  This guy is delusional.  The rich are such a small portion of the population their voice doesn't matter.  Upping the tax rate to 39 percent when the economy thrived is only common sense.  The rich are just greedy, are they Christian too like you, read the Bible coach, what did it say about greed and the poor?

The Bible also says, "Thou shalt not covet", which is what whiny liberals/progressives do, showing their jealousy and envy towards those who've made it and thinking they're entitled to someone else's money just for breathing.

Shouldn't those rich guys be happy that there is someone who will rob their money and thus grant them permission into the kingdom of god?

Does it matter? They earned it.

Some have. Some haven't. But that's irrelevant:

Quote
Only the man who does not need it, is fit to inherit wealth – the man who would make his own fortune no matter where he started. If an heir is equal to his money, it serves him; if not, it destroys him. But you look on and you cry that money corrupted him. Did it? Or did he corrupt his money? Do not envy a worthless heir; his wealth is not yours and you would have done no better with it. Do not think that it should have been distributed among you; loading the world with fifty parasites instead of one would not bring back the dead virtue which was the fortune. Money is a living power that dies without its root. Money will not serve that mind that cannot match it.

Matthew 19:24

"And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Shouldn't those rich guys be happy that there is someone who will rob their money and thus grant them permission into the kingdom of god?

Matt. 25:14-30 (Parable of the talents):

“14 “For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. 15 To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey. 16 Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents. 17 In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more. 18 But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
19 “Now after a long time the master of those slaves *came and *settled accounts with them. 20 The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’

22 “Also the one who had received the two talents came up and said, ‘Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have gained two more talents.’ 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’

24 “And the one also who had received the one talent came up and said, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed. 25 And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’

26 “But his master answered and said to him, ‘You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed. 27 Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest. 28 Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.’

29 “For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. 30 Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

I'm sorry!! Where's the part, where the other two servants' money get JACKED and "redistributed" to the lazy servant, who buried his talent ($1,000, in silver, I believe) again?

In most instances it isn't that the wealthy are against paying more, it's that they're against being forced to hand over more money to a goverment that squanders it and spends it without any form of accountability/responsibility (re: the stimulus).

If your teenager came up to you and said, "give me $100", you would ask them what they were going to spend it on, and give input whether that is a good choice.  That is what the wealthy are asking for.....before they just hand over more money to Obama/Congress to waste, they want to know what the money is going to be used for.

Makes perfect sense.

So?  Nobody is born with the promise that somebody else is going to create them a job.  Either be happy with what you have or start your own business.  Nothing worse than having a lunch break with a bunch of douches who just complain that the owner is on vacation or out on the lake, while they make the money to allow them to do it.

I missed the rule that keeps rich liberals from giving more of their money to the government RIGHT NOW. Arriana Huffington (a progressive princess) got $315 million for dumping her blog onto AOL. How much of that is she "sacrificing" to help the poor and middle class via extra taxes again?

Coach, you know I don't agree with redistributing wealth, but let's be honest here... Jobs are created because of need, the rich don't "make" jobs... They NEED people to manufacture a product to be sold, therefore they hire people to build those products because the rich single person can not do it alone.

There would not be "less jobs" without the rich, the job would still need to get done anyway.

Aside from that, Johnson is right.

You're missing the point you epic dumbass.  Value is created by labor.  It takes capital to put people to work.  But without labor there would never be any value created.  Capital and labor go hand in hand.  Go back and read a fucking book on capitalism.  Because you are clueless like most Americans.  And when most of us talk about rich we are not talking about small business owners who put people to work and who usually work in their business as well.  We are talking about the mega rich who sit back and trade stocks, derivatives etc.  They are not creating capital and they are not creating jobs.  They are simply redistributing wealth.  The stock market in general doesn't create wealth.......it doesn't create capital.  It's the LABORERS who create value from productive property which the rich own that creates wealth and value.  Why the fuck do you think our economy is imploding?  Because most of the wealth is in the form of numbers on a computer screen.  It means nothing.  There is only three ways to build true wealth via production.............. build it, grow it, and mine it.  If you're not doing one of those three things you'renot creating REAL tangible wealth and assets.  And the rich are hardly the ones building shit, growing shit, and mining shit.

Capital is not "Money".  money has no worth really.  Capital is productive property.  Hence why ownership is such a cornerstone of freedom and liberty.  Owning stocks is not "capitalism".  Owning the means of production is.

We are an increasingly service oriented country. Said person who complains can start their own business, but it is hard as shit, and most are of the service industry...
And you need workers, and you have ro pay them...

Years ago, the IT industry was what college kids were getting their Bachelor's in, and then they started shipping the jobs overseas or training others (my aunt who was a manager for IBM was training Brazilians for her job---then she was axed).

It seems as though, Corporations don't want or hire Americans and pay them a salary in which they can live above the poverty line....
And then there is the Bizarro UAW who wants autoworker to make 75k for screwing bolts.

We are increasingly a service oriented country because Americans own nothing.  They don't own their cars, they dont own their houses, they don't own any land.  Hell most people don't even own their fucking college education nowadays.  Like I said before all capitalism means in its basic sense is you own the means of production.  Meaning if you have a factory you pay laborers to produce something from a tangible resource.  You own a share of the labor and all the value created by that labor.  The laborers own nothing and their wage or salary is never a true indication of the value they create.....otherwise the capitalists i.e. the business or factory owners would never make any money.

See the problem in America is most people, even the dumbass ones that cheerlead what they think is capitalism don't even really understand the difference between capital and labor.  The rich own all the land, they own all the resources in America.  So how the fuck are other Americans supposed to become capitalists?  They aren't.  They have been lied to.  Owning your own business doesn't make you a capitalist unless you are actually producing something.  Being a nurse, owning your own dog walking business, or whatever doesn't make you a capitalist.  Beign a farmer is in in every way a true pure form of capitalism.  hence why we were such an agrarian society back in the day.  Farming is a form of freedom and liberty.  There is nothing more free than to consume the food you grow yourself.

Great message, but lets face it Obama isn't going to listen to him.  He's going to continue to pander to his voting base......just like Bush did......just like Clinton did, etc, etc...
Obama is soooo arrogant.....he takes the cake.....Bush and Clinton have no arrogance compared to Barack and Michelle.....Nobama listens to no one......but himself.

This meme is the problem.  It's not the uber-rich that anyone is worried about.  It's the 200-250k/ year proposed definition of rich that gets fucked.

But that's the fucking problem.  My god $200K unfortunately isn't wealthy at all in my opinion.  That's upper middle class.  That's the bottom 90%.  I think the problem in America, because they are so good at hiding it, is that Americans have no fucking clue just how wealthy and rich the top 1% really is.  Donald Trump is chump change compared to the multi billionaries like the Walton family, Bill Gates, the Koch brothers, George Soros, the Breski family, the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts etc.  There are probably 60-100 families in the US that really own and control everything.  You look at the grain industry..............th e top 5 grain companies are privately owned.  Cargill is a private company and it's worth billions.  Americans are fucking clueless as to just how big the gap between the rich and poor really is.  The top billionaires need to be taxed upwards of 70% of their wealth.  Take Ted Turner for example.  No fucking way one fucking man or family should own millions upon millions of acres.  Why?  John Locke and Adam Smith never envisioned that as being a part of capitalism.  That's pure greed.  The founders envisioned people only taking and using what they needed.  And this is why they were so adamant about having sound money and against a private bank controlling our money supply.  The bankers have printed worthless money and bought everything up.

sir.....you are wrong.....Mr. Johnson is a great man who has done fantastic things with BET....BET was sold to Viacom.....Johnson has no control over the channel any longer.....He started it in 1980 and it was a fine channel.....now things have become stale....but again....Johnson has been gone from BET for at least 10 years.

So he's a corporate sell out.  4 companies pretty much control all of the US media from newspapers, to tv and cable to movies.  And Viacom is one of them.  And you wonder why our media is so fucking corrupt and biased.  They are owned by the rich and the corporations.  You're clueless.  Go educate yourself.  Viacom owns MTV.  And look at the complete garbage that TV station is and the shit it puts out there for kids to watch.    Mr Johnson is a corporate rich turd like Obama, like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Herman Cain.  These guys don't care about the Republic, they don't care about the Constitution, they could give two hershey squirts about you or me.  All they care about is money and power.  The rich negros are no different than the rich white old men.

What's funny is black people can now never live down the fact that the first black President was a complete and utter failure.  LMAO!

I certainly agree with you.  The very first thought i had after the first time I saw Obama speak was "what an arrogant prick."  and the limousine libs who are really the ones who got him elected were just so blown away by how "articulate" he was.  Latent racism on their part, but that is another subject.

Churchill wasn't articulate, neither was Abe Lincoln or many of the founding fathers....I'll take a true leader any day over someone who talks a big game and delivers nothing.

By selling BET to Viacom.  Don't you see?  Don't you undersand or are you just another fucking clueless American lemming?  There are 4 or 5 corporations that CONTROL ALL THE MEDIA in the USA.  Viacom, Walt Disney, News Corps, CBS corporation and Time Warner.  It's akin to the small family farm selling out to Tyson Meats.  Or the local mom and pop bookstore selling out to Barnes and Noble.  Same principle.

I'd be fine with that, but they wouldn't have any chance of winning.  I would hope that possibly Cain and Paul could find some common ground and work off of each other instead of just infighting.  I think they make an attractive enough ticket to enough segments to seriously contend.

My question is if the American economy is even worth trying to save anymore? From what I've gathered it needs to crash and burn and some drastic changes will have to be made. It's just too far gone.. it's inevitable. Any prolonging is just going to make it worse.

Tu, I completely understand what you're saying. I'm just talking about about trying to hit rich who, as an average, is paying more than they're fair share. As far as jobs go, of course if the economy is going to shit we're going to have less of a jobs force because the company as a whole is taking a hit. In order for most businesses to stay a float during a recession (and many do) they must keep debt low or none. This IS possible, the companies that are getting killed are the ones that carry too much debt. We're getting ready to do something that I thought I would never do and that's to go into business debt to expand and open our facility. But we plan on the business is to have investors paid back within 5 years, but the good part is since we own most of the equipment we own and need just a few other pieces, other than that, we're debt free. No CC's or other loans. That's how most are succeeding through this recession.

Close some loopholes in the tax code and reduce some spending and I'm good. I don't think that the solution is just taxing the rich more... I think there has to be a balance of a lot of things, but both sides want to do exactly what they want to do.

So?  Nobody is born with the promise that somebody else is going to create them a job.  Either be happy with what you have or start your own business.  Nothing worse than having a lunch break with a bunch of douches who just complain that the owner is on vacation or out on the lake, while they make the money to allow them to do it.

Do you have any idea of the failure rate of small business ???

Again as I've said before I'm for the most part conservative. But you guys are amazingly naive for a group of people that spend all day pointing out the lies and cheating that it takes to get to the top(i.e. philsulin). Most small business are simply local monopolies, and are a failure of the free market, as are most of the big guys on wall street. If you think people owning monopolies earn there money, you really have no understanding of economics, and shouldn't even be allowed to vote. Again in theory america should be a free market haven. The reality is corruption in this country is so high you'd make people in pakistan blush.
It's obvious that those that create wealth off the backs of labor should pay their fair share of taxes.

Most businesses in american rely on nothing other than cornering a market. Not through competition, as a free market should, but by turning it into a zero sum game. You either gain a unhealthy monopoly or parish under a mountain of debt.
This way everyone looses except that self made idiot that thinks he did it through hard work. That's what america is all about.

Just the other day I found the ex mayor in my town, got his nephew an apartment complex for 140k, and the rent is 5k a month, if you think that house was put on the open market ???

Most small business that fail are due to a lack planning and as I've said before...too much debt. Most businesses cannot succeed in this climate and when it comes down to paying for inventory, making payroll and general overhead, what do they do? Get a loan to help BAIL OUT what they cannot pay for, then they create even more debt with higher interest that they have to pay back and so on and so on to the point where no one will lend and then THATS when they are forced to eventually fail. If the burden of debt for that business was reduced or eliminated right from the start they can easily get through a bad economy.

Stop making sense man, the getbig millionaires don't like your seditious talk

That's exactly the problem. But you can't compete with people who already have tons of money, this is why progressive tax rates that actually progress into the top one percent are important. So either put restrictions of some sort on the rich or QFT. Again your smart enough prove the problem atleast admit it.

Obama for the record has some pretty good ideas and isn't this crazy socialist crap you guys get on with. That's just playing to his base(black folk  ;D). The reality is the guy got in without proper experience, and has no ability to stand up to those around him, meaning good ideas turn into corrupt nonsense.  If he weren't so easily swayed by the powers at be he might actually had a chance. But corruption prevails in  washington.

X2 they are not the good guys, and currently are spending the bulk of their money outside the country. This is where the rich and the jet set are totally different. A doc making 250k a year, will most likely spend his money locally in places like country clubs etc. These guys that have private jets don`t care where they live. They go where the actions at, and it looks like the action is starting to head to china, it`s only a matter of time before they flee.
Liberals are fucking annoying because you can`t separate the retards from the ones that make  sense. Conservatives are annoying because only 10 percent even understand the game, the other 90 percent, have bits and parts of the whole picture, with no understanding.

??? I'm married, I have a 14 year old son, I have two homes, son's private school, etc, etc. Business, although I don't have hundreds on employees, I do have 6. As far as contributing to this country and the world....you really have no idea of the impact of athletes as it helps keep most kids off the street instead of getting into trouble by doing NOTHING. While most PUBLIC SCHOOLS are cutting back on PE, we have after school and weekend programs. For example, we deal with six schools per month with our speed camps and although we charge for the camps, 25% of the proceeds goes back into their athletic programs as a donation and sponsorship from US. In addition to that, these particular camps we get up to 75-100 high school athletes per camp. The inner city camps sometimes more. This IN ADDITION to our regular business.

Look junior, before you go spouting off about how you perceive me, ask first, it makes you look like total dumbshit.  BTW, WTF have you done that makes you so special?

You didn't answer my question.

I'm not the one bragging about how big my bank account is, how many houses I own..  Why aren't you out there teaching kids math  and science?  Probably because there is no money in it that's why.   Why isn't your son in public school like the kids you are trying to help have to go to?  Sounds like you're the typical conservative hypocrite.  You want to appear like some sort of do gooder but in reality you have sacrificed nothing to do what you do. and in fact it is paying you handsomely.  Would you be doing it if you couldn't make a living out of it.  Probably not.  It's like Bill and Melinda Gates giving away a few million to charity.  LOL..........

Hey bud, you're the one who said I wasn't contributing. My son isn't in the public school it sucks and the schools I deal with verifies that all the time. The ACLU writes the laws and guidelines for PS systems out hear and makes it hard for most teachers with all the dumbass rules they write. And you being I'm sure an atheist and liberal are going to hate this....but I put my son in a Christian private school, been there since he was in the second grade. Higher standards both in academics and morals.

you just don't understand what the government provides on a daily basis for him to even start his business.

let's start with roads to drive on.  what next coach?  do you want to pave the road to your place you built, then pave the rest so the construction workers can get their to build the place, then pave roads for customers to come?  Do you want any fire department to show up in case of a fire or a police station from keeping people from robbing your business every night?  Your as dumb as a rock sorry but your are, go to college and do yourself a favor.  Did the FCC approve and allow his station to start, yes, is he self made, no.  He had an idea, and our government with their generous opportunities they allow with people tax dollars made it possible, now with less tax dollars there isn't much left for people to start their own business like this BET guy, who is NOT self made.

I guess everyone who doesn't agree with you and your conservative right wing ideology is a liberal?  And everyone that's not a Christian is an atheist?  LMAO!  Boy you sure do you have some great critical thinking skills there chief.  You don't get it do you?  I mean you really don't get it...............first off I love you Christians...........I'm sure Jesus would love that you have two houses, a fat bank account, and put your kid through private school right?  I mean I'm sure that's exactly how Jesus would have lived his life?  LMAO!

No one is saying you aren't entitled to the fruits of your labor although I would question just how much of a Christian you really are.  I think Jesus would say if you don't NEED two homes  you should give one to someone less fortunate or use that money to help feed the poor.  But Christians are some of the biggest hypocrites in society...........as are most religious people.

Anyways.  this country rides together and it dies together.  You think because your kid is in private school he's going to be insulated from the world.  How's he going to deal with all those kids that grow up to be adults in public education that venture out into the world?  What do you think it's going to be like in college?  Oh wait you'll probably send him to a private bible college too right?  LMAO!

And like I said do you really think sports and athletics is going to make a damn bit of difference for some kid?  I mean let's be real how many kids do you work with that are actually going to make money from being an athlete?  Are they all going to get college scholarhips and be multimillionaire pro athletes?  There are plenty of ways to keep kids off the streets.  It's like all these stupid ass OC parents that think johnny is going to be the next Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan or Drew Breeze.......meanwhile little Johnny is spending all his time energy at baseball games and football games flunking out of grade school math while little Sing Lee and Pardesh Pinjabi are spending their weekends at Kumon learning centers  doing advanced calculus.   ::)

No I undertand your point.  I just think there is a significant amount of hypocrisy in it. We as a nation need to invest in EVERYONE at all socioeconomic levels.  We will rise as a nation or we will fall as a nation.  I agree government is a huge problem.  But public education has been a cornerstone of this country for a long time and rightfully so.  The problem is like everything else it's become fucked up with special interest and top heavy bureaucracy.  Just like healthcare.  So what do the rich do?  They put their kids in private school....fuck everyone else.  When in reality it's the fucking republicans AND democrats who have been screwing over public education.  And don't you live in OC anyways?  Last time I looked around there weren't too many "ghettos" and the OC has some of the best schools in the nation.  The biggest reason I'd want my kid in private school is because of all the fucking mexicans who can't speak English.  But I didn't grow up in CA public schools I grew up in Midwest public school where we had to deal with inner city blacks being bussed into the suburbs because all the city schools were so shitty.  But you  know what I managed to be a 3.8 student athlete and go on to college and become a productive tax paying member of society anyways and I wouldn't have traded my public education experience anyday for a sheltered, elitist private school education.

No one is self made.  Not one single millionaire.  Unless they grew up on an island and made their money by selling shit to animals.  I'm sure the founder of BET took out government loans to go to school or got government money to attend college considering he was a po black kid from the ghetto or whatever.

The rich love to think their success exists in a vacuum.  If it wasn't for all the black welfare moms sitting around watching BET or the stupid white teenagers sitting around watching MTV all day none of these CEO's would be making any money from their stupidity.

Good for you and I'm not rich. I sacrifice A LOT to keep my kid in private school because I know the way the PS school systems are and I KNOW the different influences it could have on him and PERSONALLY I don't want it and I don't like it. Again, you're talking out your ass. You're right, I chose to have two homes, just like I CHOSE not to be poor and providing for MY family is the priority not providing for someone elses family....but to just clarify, Christians give more than anyone else in country and that includes me. By your definition....if I have the money to by a house, I should just turn around and give it to someone else??? How much did you VOLUNTARILY give last year? The bible says to tithe (average in 10%) I VOLUNTARILY give substantially MORE. The government just wants to TAKE IT and do what they feel is best with MY money. I don't need MY money going towards stupid shit that the government deems worthy....like teaching other countries how wash their balls. (not made up)

it depends on your area, and your involvement with your kids at home, you are half the part of making them do homework read etc etc, it's not all on the school.  Public school system is great most places.

So what if they aren't self-made. That doesn't mean that everybody and their mama is entitled to their money, once they get rich. And how do you know he took a government loan. Could he not have worked his way through school or received a full-ride scholarship from his alma mater?

At the end of the day, all this "Tax the rich; pay your fair share" crap is just sour grapes from a bunch of lazy, whiny, shiftless liberals (regardless of skin color) who think they're entitled to the fruits of someone else's labor, simply because they have a pulse.

Did you help Robert Johnson make his millions? Did you burn the midnight oil studying? Did you take the financial risks? Did you put in 17-18 hour days at the office?

OF COURSE YOU DIDN'T!! Therefore, you don't deserve nor are you (or anyone else of the progressive bleating ilk) entitled to ONE THIN DIME of that man's money.

What matter of silliness is this? Just because you pay to pave the roads (as if you have a choice in the matter) doesn't mean you're entitled to another taxpayer's money, if he makes way more than you. If he's rich, he invests MORE in the roads than you do.

Nobody owes the government a penny more than what our laws currently state (and we have a say in those laws). This isn't about fairness. It's about laziness, jealousy, and envy by certain people with a massive entitlement complex.

Read and understand ...

Quote

Owning the means of production is.

you overestimate anyone's envy or jealousy of the rich, most poor are very religious and do not envy rich or want to be rich, as they know that will only make their problems worse with God(getting into heaven).  I think the rich think people envy them when they don't.  Not all people want to be rich, most people want a regular life with a fair wage and a good health care plan if it isn't provided by the gov't.

It is important to understand the economy web in a more direct manner. Though the term "self-made millionaire" is a common one, there is no such thing as a "self-made" millionaire, or a "self-made" anyone of any economic level. The only person who can be called self-made is a hermit. For example if a person starts their own pizza delivery business and then makes it successful and becomes a millionaire, many will call him "self-made," but in fact he is not "self-made" any more than a shark living in the ocean is "self-made". Both are part of a web of relationships that has to exist in order to support the individual. In order for the man to have a successful pizza business he relies on established roads, an educated public from which he can employ workers, consumers who have money to pay for the pizza, farmers who grow and market the food, etc. This is the full nature of the economy web.

What we have to understand about capitalism is that a relatively small number of people in the world own capital. At the same time, the only people in the world who actually have a stake in the value of our system are those people who do own capital. We all, every single living thing on earth, contribute to the value of our economy, but owners of capital are the ones who realize all of that value. Some of that value is paid back to workers in the form of wages, but a large portion of that value is not the product of paid labor, or even in cases where it is, for example a worker who builds a road, the "trickle down" effects of that labor are not compensated for, i.e. the worker is paid a wage to build the road, but he is not paid for the real value that he added to the other property near the road. In that case the property owner reaps the reward of all of the work done by the laborer, and the investments made by the public, and assumes none of the cost.

This of course presents a problem when it comes to the issue of economic justice.

Over the past 20 or 30 years in America ownership of capital has been consolidated into a smaller number of hands. Companies are consolidating and a smaller portion of people are owning a larger and larger portion of American capital. This is not the first time in American history that this situation has arisen, this took place at the turn of the 20th century as well, with a few wealthy capitalists such as JP Morgan, John Rockefeller, and Andrew Carnegie owning or controlling hugely significant portions of American capital. Not only did those conditions help contribute to the Great Depression, but the fact is, the conditions are simply not fair.

Capitalists, by definition, are taking advantage of work that other people do, and they are, through law, being entitled to the value added to property by other people. You buy property, you get a piece of paper that gives you rights to "ownership" of all of the value that that property represents, and then as the value of that property changes due to work done by society, you are legally entitled to all of that value. This is certainly not to say that capitalists don't serve a valuable role in the economy, they do.

That situation alone presents a problem though, however, its not a problem that cannot be dealt with within the capitalist framework, but it is a problem that must be recognized.

There is a "trickle" effect in a capitalist economy, but unlike the claims of the Reagan Administration, wealth does not trickle down, it trickles up.

In 2001 the top 1% possessed almost 33 % of the nation's wealth, while the bottom 50% owned less than 3%.

you overestimate anyone's envy or jealousy of the rich, most poor are very religious and do not envy rich or want to be rich, as they know that will only make their problems worse with God(getting into heaven).  I think the rich think people envy them when they don't.  Not all people want to be rich, most people want a regular life with a fair wage and a good health care plan if it isn't provided by the gov't.

Define "fair".

It is important to understand the economy web in a more direct manner. Though the term "self-made millionaire" is a common one, there is no such thing as a "self-made" millionaire, or a "self-made" anyone of any economic level. "Economic justice" is just a cushy euphemism for socialism (based on nothing more than ENVY and jealousy). If you could do what they do, you would have what they have.

Not all rich people were born rich or inherited it. That's how people like Limbaugh and Hannity can become multi-millionaires, despite coming from humble means. Same with people like Herman Cain.

Marie Callendar got rich, baking pies. Wally "Famous" Amos got millions, making cookies.

This whole idea that the rich (by and large) only got rich by taking advantage of other people is utter hogwash, part and parcel of a liberal/progressive mindset, fueled by envy and laziness.

OMG.  You are a fucking idiot aren't you?  That's not the point.  Let's say in 100 years  robots are doing ALL the labor of people.  Then what you fucking epic genius?  What happens then?  No one gets paid?  No one has any money to buy things?  There is no tax revenue to fund the government to provide for national defense?  You can't even grasp the basic principles of an economic system be it capitalism, socialism, whatever.  The point is there has to be a fucking basic level of redistribution at the top to keep ANY economy going, even capitalism. hence my point about a fully automated economy in which robots do all the work of people.  Can you grasp that concept or are you too fucking stupid?  Every American should be a capitalist and we should have a system in place in which every American has an equal opportunity to the capital that exists and continually exists in the US economy.  It's not about rich earning this or earning that ect.  It's about sucking up everything to where there is nothing left for anyone else.  It's already happening.  Capital is being concentrated into fewer and fewer hands.  Even Adam Smith and John Locke discussed this in their ramblings on capitalism and a free market.  Educate yourself you fool instead of buying into false paradigms.  You're just another brainwashed idiot American.
