Title: Which First Person Shooter?
Post by: DK II on October 16, 2011, 05:25:44 AM
I already started this thread on the Entertainment board, but it doens't get any views there, so please forgive me kiwi.

I'm looking for a good FPS on the PS3, have played Crysis 2 and liked it, but now i look for something more realistic, no aliens and shit.

I am absolutely not up to date regarding these games, can someone please fill me in on what to spend my money on? I am looking for a modern setting, preferably mixed settings, like middle eastern cities, jungle and so on.
Also i am not good enough to play those games online, so i prefer something with enough fun to play offline.

Thanks a lot!

I stumbled upon this a few minutes after opening the thread, any thoughts?

Actually i don't like the NYC setting too much, already played that to death in Crysis 2.

But i guess that won't be the only scenario in the game, as opposed to Crysis 2.

Do you get to shoot any "99 percenters" in the NYC one?

Hope so, would definitely be a reason to buy the game.

Any thoughts on Battlefield 3? Seems to have a very similar setting to COD:MWF

While Gears is a great game, it's not really a FPS, per se

You know why COD has sold so many copies?  Because it REALLY is that good

Just hold off on playing online....that is- unless you want to be called a "nigger" or a "faggot" by some 12 year old in Topeka

Online is what drives this whole franchise.

DK, just get them both.   MW is always good, but BF has a ton of hype this go around.  I'm going to start with MW, then see how things look with BF.

Yeah, must be real nice living in a country where you can get jail time for looking into the facts of history (you know, the pre-45 history).

Oh yeah, & where you are living will be a 3'rd world shit hole pretty soon. If you keep supporting those loser countries & the Euro, you are fucked.
Doomed to the same fate as the rest of them. Where as an 'Earnest & Young' study I saw the other week said that the industry I am in is going to grow at 11 crore a year over the next x5 years in Mumbai. 11 Crore, is Rs 330,000,000 @ Rs72 per £1  :o
Hope that helped.

I have only one Battlefield, the futuristic one (Battlefield 2142 I think), never thought it was all that.  Always preferred COD games, Black Ops is cool too but a bit more arcadey than Modern Warfare

Uncharted 2 isnt fps but a 3rd person shooter, but its the best shooter on the system, best game on the system and best single player game ever for me.Battlefield Bad Company 2 is generally regarded as the best fps shooter on the ps3, Id agree with that.

And that's an old beta build.

But if you like super intense close combat non realistic shooting then COD is for you.

But if you like open warfare combat, with a TON of veichles, including jets helicopters tanks boats. Which is a more realistic game and harder and requires teamwork, but also with some close combat maps and enviroment destruction  BF3 is for you

BF3 actually FEELS like Battlefiled again. Bad company 2 was fun but didn't feel like a battlefiled game. At first I was worried that bf3 was kinda simular due to playing Metro. BUt when they opened up Caspian Boarder with the jets, and helicopters and shit. I was like ..BF IS BACK BABY.

Bu friend Dave also playes and a few of his friends so we talk in skape and play at the same team on each others teams etc. And when Bf3 comes, the Squad management will be working. DING DING NEGGA

Breaking News: Tokyo on the edge

I am dumb, you are the one who has the ignorant Pig in shit attitude. get a fucking GC I dare you.
All the independent reports I have seen from Japanese civilians suggest that the Tokyo tap water is insanely high.
How far are you from the Fukushima Dai-Ichi site??

Strontium 90 is already all around in Tokyo area. The amount was 195 Bq/kg.

Detected by a university staff teaching engineering, so the measurement is trustworthy.

It has nothing to do with the historical world-wide nuclear test, because it was measured on the roof of and apartment, which was built only 5 years ago.

Now the test result was sent to Yokohama city government.

Yokohama city government is supposed to pretend to re-measure it and say it’s not a harmful amount at all.

The location was randomly chosen. The person who randomly found it is very upset and confused.

It means strontium 90 is already all around in Tokyo area.

Ministry of Education and Science found strontium 79km area on 9/30.

They kept asserting Plutonium and Strontium don’t fly further than 80km because they don’t want them to fly so much.
Shit it must have taken a cab  ::)

Yup, no independent reports are confirming what i am saying, huh?? But then you have a kid, so ignorance must be bliss.
Unfortunately, your ignorance will not halt the on-set of leukaemia/various cancers. your kid is going to die Young. Good luck with that.
Could you get any further into denial - Okutama area, where Tokyo tap water comes is as dangerous as “contaminated area” in Chernobyl.

According to the data above, 100,000 ~ 300,000 Bq/m2 was measured in Okutama area. I would recomend drinking at least x8 ltrs a day from the tap

Im sorry but i can't suspend disbelief when you are doing barrel rolls 2 feet from the ground all while clipping trees and not wrecking. Game looks like total shit. I think ill stick to PC. I owned an xbox for 2 months and sold it. I don't see myself getting a console anytime soon.

there has to be a combination of realism and Fun gameplay. They have nailed it. IF you hit a tree you blow up, but not the branches. ANd bf3 is probably going to be the best looking game to date. And they still have to numb it down so the consoles doesnt slide too much behind sadly.

I'm still playing on my 5850 XXX. Bad company 2 looked Insane on that, and the bf3 beta looked even better, and my card doesn't even meet the requirements lol.

Games are not advancing fast enough (on pc which has the potential) because they're still building games based on DX9 so the consoles wond end up so far behind. bf3 is DX11 supported also or whatever its called. but if the Built an actualy game on that engine alone it would look like no other, but they cant do that due to shitty 5 yr old consoles.

bf3 on pc will look  Alot better then on consoles. And consoles doesn't even get the 64 players at once option lol. Since their hardware cant handle it.

playing with a few buddies makes games a few Hundred % better, which is something I ddint realise. And bf 3 Beta was insane witha  few buddies and the squad system didnt even work then lol.

They recode almost everthing in battlefield Not in cod though lol. bf3 looks a little bit like bfbc2 though but thats probably because they're already at max for what they're allowed to do. feels Completly different though. Million times better.

Never been into those types of games, but I liked fallout new vegas and I guess thats "kinda" simular. the game Looks awesome though as in visuals.

Im really looking forward to saints row 3 also for some hilarious entertaintment on the side lol.

they WANT to be Over the top lol.

Main but ultimatly important difference between medal of honor and Battlefield 3 is

Medal of honor - no vehicles - scripted action.
Battlefield 3 - all vehicles - open sandbox gameplay.

Knifing someone in Bf now is Awesome. And getting knifed is Horrible. Especially if you're defending and you dont think anyone is around and all of a sudden yopu get pulled from the ground and fucking stabbed lol.

there were some small problems with the knifing animatioon during the beta though.

but at 00:52 sec what I explained happends do a dude. All of a sudden you see someones face followed by a knife in the neck/heart whatever. Slightly unrealistic that you're all of a sudden standing. But thats part of it lol.

What, 11 views not enough for you??!!!! >:( ::) ;D

E board is a work in progress, hopefully it'll pick up more & more over time.

As for titles, if you don't mind old school games, try Doom 3, Doom: Resurrection of Evil, Star Wars: Republic Commando, Half Life 2, Far Cry series, Black and Area 51, as well as some of the ones mentioned before in this thread. Not sure if all of those titles are on PS 2/PS 3, but a lot of them are.

Is PS3 backwards compatible with PS2 games or is it just for a few titles ala the Xbox? Too bad you can't play the Halo series - it's an awesome FPS experience.

i think it's only a few games, anyways i'm too much a sucker for great looks and HD games, probably won't be playing any PS2 games soon, there's too many great games i missed on the PS3 already, Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed, God of War 3, the Spider-Man and Marvel games, then there's the new Batman game coming....

halo is without a doubt the most competitive, once you get past the whole AlIeNs thing it is probably the best FPS out. especially the MLG playlist but that is only for good players. you can only get so good at shooting and strafing, teamwork is a big part of it

although halo reach is more of a casual game. im referring to halo 3

I shall now leave the children to talk about their latest toys  ::)

Good luck with the dip in brain activity that these games cause, research has shown that your state of consciousness dips way below Theta & into Delta brain waves, now that is uncharted territory!! Hypnosis & PHS, are most effective in Theta brain activity, who fucking knows what your are susceptible to on Delta activity.

Beta brain waves
, measured at 13-40 Hz, are the brain state of our normal waking consciousness. Nearly all forms of action, thinking, & problem solving are done with a beta brain wave. Most people spend most of their waking lives in a beta state (although most GetBIG'ers seem exempt from that rule)

Alpha brain waves, measured at 7-13 Hz, are the brain state of relaxation/meditation. The alpha state is associated with creativity & super learning, where the brain learns at a faster & deeper level than it does in beta. Most meditation & energy healing techniques cultivate / utilize an alpha brain wave for relaxation/healing.

Theta brain waves, measured at 4-7 Hz, are the brain state of REM sleep (dreams), hypnosis, lucid dreaming, & the barely conscious state just before sleeping & just after waking. Theta is the border between the conscious & the subconscious world. By learning to use a conscious, waking Theta brain wave we can access and influence the powerful subconscious part of ourselves that is normally inaccessible to our waking minds. While in the Theta state, the mind is capable of deep & profound learning, healing, & growth - it is the brain wave where our minds can connect to the Divine & manifest changes in the material world.

Delta brain waves, measured at less than 4 Hz, are the brain state of deep sleep & unconsciousness.

Gee, I wonder why it is that these games are extremely addictive, & that x5 hrs on them can seem like 30 mins, according to most reports from gamers??  :-*

Carry on gentlemen  ;)

Just a heads up.

Wakeful sleep - Television and Brain Waves

Folds in the BrainDepending on our level of consciousness, our brains exhibit electrical waves that can be detected by a machine called an electroencephalograph or EEG. When we are awake and focused on something, our brain exhibits Beta waves. If we meditate or relax, our brains move into an Alpha wave pattern. When we drift off to sleep our brains exhibit Delta waves. The interesting thing about television and brain function is that for the most part, our brains seem to turn off during television programs. When we view television, our brains mostly exhibit slow Alpha waves and waves bordering on Delta waves. This means that even though we are focused on the story or the characters or the plot, our overall level of arousal is similar to when we are very relaxed or even asleep. Experiments in the late 60's showed that people can enter an alpha wave state as quickly as 60 seconds after beginning to watch television. Therefore, when it comes to television and brain function our brains tend to go into autopilot mode. In fact, watching television has the same effect on the brain as staring at a blank wall.
Alpha Waves, Hypnosis and Advertisements

Another state which induces alpha waves is hypnosis. Hypnosis, while it has come to be associated with people being "put to sleep" and forced to do various things such as act like a chicken, is actually a useful technique to control behavior. At its heart, hypnosis is a state of relaxation and focused attention. The subject is not so much "put to sleep" as he or she is placed in a state of extreme relaxation. During this period the mind is actually quite focused and highly suggestible. The brain waves seen during hypnosis are quite similar to those measured in people watching television. Television advertisers have seized on this effect of television and brain function for their television commercials. When people watch most television programs, they are quite suggestible. Thus a claim made in favor of a specific product, on some level, causes the person watching television to be more apt to believe it.

Now that is TV (the flicker rate of the screen) & the research is fairly old now........

So, let us look at more recent research on Video games (& the flicker rates they generate) & thus brain wave activity that is generated.

Akio Mori, a professor at Tokyo's Nihon University, conducted a recent study observing the effects of video games on brain activity. He divided 260 people into three groups: those who rarely played video games, those who played between 1 and 3 hours three to four times a week, and those who played 2 to 7 hours each day. He then monitored "the beta waves that indicate liveliness and degree of tension in the prefrontal region of the brain, and alpha waves, which often appear when the brain is resting" (4). The results showed a higher decrease of beta waves the more one played video games. "Beta wave activity in people in the [highest amount of video game playing] was constantly near zero, even when they weren't playing, showing that they hardly used the prefrontal regions of their brains. Many of the people in this group told researchers that they got angry easily, couldn't concentrate, and had trouble associating with friends" (4). This suggests two important points. One, that the decrease of beta wave activity and usage of the prefrontal region of the brain may correlate with the aggressive behavior, and two, that the decrease of beta waves continued after the video game was turned off, implying a lasting effect. Another study found similar results and reported: "Youths who are heavy gamers can end up with 'video-game brain,' in which key parts of the frontal region of their brain become chronically underused, altering moods" (5). This study also asserts that a lack of use of the frontal brain, contributed by video games, can change moods and could account for aggressive and reclusive behavior. An important question arises: if the brain is so impacted by video games as to create behavioral changes, must that mean that the brain perceives the games as real?

Another study found similar results and reported: "Youths who are heavy gamers can end up with 'video-game brain,' in which key parts of the frontal region of their brain become chronically underused,

Video games & GetBIG, what a bunch of fucking losers!! I will make an exemption for DK though, as he can't get out due to the radiation levels in his location

I wish they made more realistic FPS. So many times it's aliens and monsters you're shooting.

I also don't want to drive around in vehicles. It's one of the reasons I hated GTA - drive across town to deliver a package to fat Tony etc..

I just want to be a soldier and kill other soldiers and , preferably, some civilians.

Beta wave activity in people in the [highest amount of video game playing] was constantly near zero, even when they weren't playing, showing that they hardly used the prefrontal regions of their brains. Many of the people in this group told researchers that they got angry easily, couldn't concentrate, and had trouble associating with friends

I will take the carbon-monoxide on the way to work thanks.

sheesh... some people can't consentrate on a topic that interests fuck all, then people should focuse on other things that make them happy.

I dont even dare to go to that fucking site no more, because all of a sudden in sweden now It's illegal to look at 17 yr olds showing their tits or even in underwear on the internet. But fucking a 15yr old is ok  ::)

In the UK it is illegal to look at under 18's also, they are considered by law as children. You will get charged with possession of child pornography, you go to court & the local papers will plaster your name/address all over the place "MAN HAD SICK CHILD PORNOGRAPHY ON HIS COMPUTER"

Yet you can fuck a 16 year old girl too  ::)
I smell an agenda here, look at "common purpose" (the organisation) who are trying to take peoples kids away from them for the slightest reason.
& what pray tell happens to some of these kids?? They are put in the care of a (paid off) foster guardian/handler, & passed around the higher up's who have access to them. Oh the fucking irony. They take your kids away from you after you are accused of being a nonce, & then give them to real nasty fuckers. I have heard of cases just like the one described - put "common purpose" into a search engine & see what comes up, then look at how they are run by the CFR  :-X for the people who have been raped by these kunts  :'(

What a fucked up world we live in. I am, so glad to be out of Europe.
