Watching the news this weekend and an Australian surfer was killed by a great white. An eyewitness on a seadoo said the 14 foot shark jumped out and bit the surfer in half. When he went over and tried to help the shark went after him, he watched helplessly as it took the body half underwater and swam away.
Got me thinking, you're on the slab in the morgue and the medical examiner is making out his report, what do you not want your cause of death to be?

shit, according to that description, this was a fucking Horrific attack.....the surfer didn't look that big of a guy either, but the bad thing is, that monster shark have a taste for human now and it will come back very soon on that same spot to look for more surfers......that part in Autralia is now the leading coast for Great white attacks. there were at least 5 fatal attacks in 10 months......your best bet is stay the fuck out of these waters......

HAHAHA. dumbest statement of the year. You think they are vampires? That the shark is thinking, shit man, what have I been missing all my life. I need me some more human, screw the tuna.

Well, a lot of zombies would disagree with you.

This is clearly how sharks attack sea lions and other prey when they want to eat. A lot of times sharks will take test bites, small "nibbles" to see if what they are nibbling is on is what they like. A lot of shark attacks on humans are just these. However, this attack was to eat. Plain and simple. Must have been a hungry shark
-
I mean, I feel bad but I dont. The oceans were not meant for people to play in, to take their boogie boards and surf boards and splash around and disturb the animals that live in there. You wouldn't like it if someone invaded your home. This is just another instance of humans encroaching on nature and taking something beautiful and turning it into their own plaything.
FILT!
-
For how much money would you have sex with the gills of a sleeping shark?

I think Sharks (as well as most marine life) are getting used to the fact that humans have been going into the water for 1000's of years now. They might be aquiring a taste for us afterall.
-
Nobody would complain if some nutjob went out hiking in an african animal reserve and eaten by some apex predator lion, hyena etc.
But when people enter the water they are all shocked that some get hurt and or killed by the kings of the sea - makes no sense to me.
Once you enter the ocean you are a guest and you really aren't in an environment we are meant to be in the first place.
Its the same type of people that build their homes in Americas busiest hurrican and tornado path and are all upset and hurt that half their family became tornado bait.

Indeed, but we are getting all pissed upset and offended when one fucking human is getting killed vs. millions of animals we kill per hour, its like the dumb fucks believe that just because we can read a book and fly to the moon the animals of this planet should give us a pass and since the large majority of sheep on this planet are incapable of dealing with the actual truth they get all horrified when they get no fucking respect from a lion or a bear.

Yes, a 100lb cougar could easiy kill a 250lb bodybuilder. Just cause you could bench press 450 doesn't mean shit to that cat, who wouln't think twice about taking down a 700lb elk. A few years ago a female jogger in our area was killed by a couple of coyotes. she was only 19, going to be a singer and all but fate had other plans. Worst way to die, be on the menu.
-
You should know why humans over-react to shark attacks Stark...you're the expert! I've seen your site - you know the psychology as to why humans over-react to certain situations with fear/outrage/disgust.
It has everything to do with three compounding factors: the randomness of the event, the gruesomeness of the event, and the helplessness of the people involved.
Here's an example of something that would generate little outrage from society: a woman dies of lung cancer in New York City. Why? It's not random (thousands will get and die from the big C), it's not very gruesome or abrupt (cancer takes a long time to kill people, relative to a shark, let's say) and people will probably say she deserved it for smoking all those years.
Contrast it to this: a baby is pulled out of its crib by a marauding bear and eaten in front of the parents. That's shocking, and will grab headlines. How often do bears go marauding through a house? Almost never! And isn't the thought of seeing a baby being eaten by a bear quite gruesome? And finally, both the baby and parents - the victims - are completely helpless to do anything. This news headline will strike fear and outrage in the populace. After this headline runs, you're more likely to raise money to kill bears or create bear-proof-cribs, than you are to raise money to stop smoking.
Human nature.
That's why we fear sharks so much. The kills are gruesome, and quite random versus a car accident or heart disease. And finally, don't we all truly feel helpless in the water? We can't see below us, we know it (the water) can very easily kill us in an instant...it's a breeding ground for cheap news headlines.
There...now you can all write newstories...enjoy!
Thats why they invented pools. You won't catch me in water more then knee deep at the beach.

Teeth too pointy, would not hit

Would not hit. Shark's skin is abrasive when stroked the opposite direction of the scales. Would chaffe me badly. And since I always go in dry, this would be problematic.
KY of peace.
I bet Dolphin pussy would be orgasmic.

I'm on board with your thinking here, bub.
And besides, the human species is shit to begin with, so really, who gives a toss?

Agreed. People would shoot an intruder who entered their home. This is no different. The ocean is theirs, not ours. We just exploit it for our own selfish pleasure and enjoyment.

He should be honored to have his death come at the hands of Great White. The Shark's design is so perfect it hasn't had to change in 100 million years. That put's it into an elite class of creatures...mostly prey. This guy could've been hit by a car or been murdered for the dollars in his pocket. He could have suffered horrible cancer or withered away from Alzheirmer's disease. Instead he was stalked i the ocean by the finest predator in the world who took his life fast and clean...and, unlike humans, wasted nothing. In a single terrifying moment he leaned the truth of power and will.
Sadly, this will probably just cause a hysterical over-reaction and lead to the senseless slaughter of sharks.

Exactly.
You have to admire its purity of purpose and design.
-
It's probably the original reason we got out of the water. The civilizing of society comes at a price. It costs us our understanding of the natural order of the world and our place in it. We falsely believe that our technology makes us invulnerable even when we're not wearing it.
The height of arrogance.

It was in Australia right? I'm sure it thought the surfer was a seal. That bitch jumped out of the water like shark week and snapped that guy in half. I blame the dumb fuck surfer.

Nature is more indifferent than anything else.
In the grander scheme of things, yes, exactly right.
I was speaking from a strictly human perspective, people like to look at nature romantically, make it seem like something its not. To civilized socitety, nature is brutal, and should be feared and respected. But its not - people like to look at animals like theyre fuzzy and cuddly, poor innocent creatures that wouldnt ever hurt a fly.

People are just too stupid to see the correlation. Killing a cow and making a steak is no different then a lion killing a zebra. We just like to think that we as humans are humane about our killing. ::)

Also, the way they look, they glide around like airplanes---airplanes with huge mouths. With dark, cold unfeeling eyes. And rows of teeth. They don't look like the pet gold fish...they have a very sinister look to them...in many instances, like with GW's, Makos, and blues, it's like a harbinger of death.
In 8th grade our school had a PETA rep come in and talk to us, they showed us the the obligatory animal testing vids. I asked them why is it that PETA focuses on the cute, cuddly, furry animals, when there are millions of sharks being killed just for their fins for sharkfin soup. She had no answer. But we all know the answer---sharks are demonized because of their appearance, and they eat people.

Chances are probably not. Probably mistakes him for a seal. Humans compared to most great white prey have very little blubber or meat on them. A leg ain't gonna Jack for a GW, nor is biting into the midsection where you have the organs. Plus, GW prey tends to be more proliferate than random suffers, and they can move to warmer or colder waters....

100% spot on.
There are however a growing number of people out there that rather look at the nature of this world directly in the eye and do the complete opposite the world and especially the western world wants us to believe - death does exist and its okay to talk about it, there is nothing abnormal or horrific about death - its clinical precise and quite literally the end or the beginning.
But in todays society we are being tought from very early on that you do not talk about dying or death, everybody goes to great length to make sure you don't like like you are getting older / dying its not okay to call people old anymore you are getting "older" or you are 100 years young - death by the western decadent society is obzene and in a way something dirty a tabu you should not talk about.
I think we need to change that we need to open our mind and eyes to the reality of our existence.

I've dived with white sharks and there are anything but what you described them above, the movies want you to believe that - a white shark is very careful very shy you can see that from their behavior they are not some none thinking monster.
not one shark had any interest in me or the cage - they kept a watchfull eye on me at all times however.
Shark attacks are always a mistake - I know we self rightious humans want to believe different but its a fact we just don't really taste that nice.

A gorilla would have killed that shark ;D
-
As long he wasn't sucked in by some filthy mudshark and then disposed of he'll be fine.

load said surfer with grade A pharmacy bath salts and thats one fucked shark.

Atleast you might be getting to the real story here, if they don't have an interest in humans why all the attacks on humans? As much as you guys want to believe it's nature fighting back, odds are there's something else going on.

At the end of the day it might be as simple as this, "meat is meat". Shark was probably looking for seal but once he took a bite, he decided it was not all that bad, doesn't have that fishy taste.
