Sounds like obamacare is now accepted. Sounds like the budget is gonna be compromised. Sounds like DREAM will happen.
Sounds like the tea party's influence is officially over :(

And it sounds as if Boehner can kiss his gavel goodbye. The Tea Party gave him that gavel; they will take it away from him, if he sells out.

he threw you under the bus dude...you spent all these years arguing against it and now Boehner tells you to shut up and accept it....really funny...and ironic ;)

Oh, I dunno. Sounds like he's taking the party back.
I'm not sure tea party has the power or the numbers anymore to boot him. They would have loved to boot him for the last 2 years, they didnt/couldnt.
-

And Boehner will likely pay the price for it.
I don't find it funny that I will be paying higher premiums for my family's healthcare. I don't find it funny at all that my taxes could be going up because of it.
When this becomes an unmitigated disaster, let's see how "funny and ironic" you find it.

Pelosi underestimated the Tea Party; she lost the gavel. Let Boehner do the same, if he wants to do so.

I think he grabbed them by the sack today. Hannity too. They're just happy to have their seats. America spoke - dems actually gained seats in the house, right?
No, I think the tea partiers have FAR less power than in 2010.. Boehnner saying a bunch of shit he was scared to say for the last 2 years.
it's going to be 1995 again in DC. Boehnner = compromise.

Boehner = toast, if that happens. The Tea Party will abandon him and the other sellouts. They won't have the money and the volunteers and will either get beat in the primaries or lose to their Dem opponents.
Far more of those seats will be on the line in 2014 than were on the line Tuesday night.
If Boehner sells out, he may as well gift-wrap that gavel and hand it to Pelosi.

No, tea party woudln't hand anything to pelosi. It'd be a ryan or whoever taking over. If he would even take the job lol....
Let's start counting the liberal-ass shit that boehnner does in the coming days. He already telegraphed "I'll play ball with dems on taxes and limit".
Let's see if he tells us he's open to some version of DREAM in the next day or two.

Ryan won't be taking over, because the GOP will no longer hold the House. We won't settle for liberal-lite mess.
Better to have true enemies than false friends.
-
He just told the GOP congress "No more attempts to derail obamacare".
That is a seriously smack in the mouth for them.
That ALONE would have gotten him booted from his speaker position a year ago. Not this time ;)

Boehner has to get re-elected. Turning on the Tea Party will cost him dearly. Even if he does get re-elected, many of his supporters will not.

boehnner ran unopposed. in a swing state OH that is a-okay with him being a bedwetting liberal. Seeing as they just gave obama a huge win, they probably prefer him that way.
MCway, you can stick with the tea party ideals - close borders, end obamacare, no det/taxes compromise - but the top voices and elected GOp officials said today that they're NOT.

And that will be their undoing. What makes you think Boehner can betray the very people that got him the gavel and go unpunished?
The key word was "ELECTED". Those officials were elected for a purpose, and it certainly wasn't to fellate Obama and give him what he wants.
If the GOP wants to remain the minority party, let them keep putting up moderate candidates that can't turn out the base and groveling before the Democrats.
-

All this compromise talk usually happens shortly after an election loss, just like 2004.
The Dems ultimately didn't compromise; they went further to the left.

Yes, i DO think he can piss off the tea partiers and still keep his job. They're numnbers and influence are SHRINKING. And he let them do it THEIR way for 2 years, he bowed and obeyed. They lost numbers in house, repubs lost white house, and their ideas are rejected nationally - turns out they're good at extreme social issues, but they didn't stop any spending.
I think boehnner is untouchable now - and he's rubbing in in their faces. No more anti-obamacare bills now :(

We lost the White House, because (once again) we ran a moderate. Who considered Romney a member of the Tea Party?
Once again, you underestimate the Tea Party, just as Pelosi did. In fact, she did it twice, thinking the Dems would win the House back this year.
It appears you have no historical perspective. I remember talking the exact same stuff you're talking now, this time eight years ago.
But, another poster on another (now defunct) forum warned me how quickly things can change in politics, how the pendulum can swing the other way in a heartbeat.
I thought the liberals were FINISHED, after Bush got re-elected. The Dems lost seats in the House and Senate. It was all gravy.
Two years later...............

WRONG.
You AGAIN lost the white house because you didn't run anyone with true conviction.
The extreme right wing ALREADY were voting just to get OBAMA out... REMEMBER?!?!?!
Anyone But OBAMA!!!! That's what your extreme right has ALREADY been running on... You voted for Romney and you sound pretty damn Christian Right to me... So if you voted that way, why do you think other people would NOT vote that way?
Your TEA party is a joke... It started out as a fantastic idea, which, similarly to the Republicans as a whole, was taken over by the EXTREME CHRISTIAN RIGHT... You know... People like you.
You just don't seem to get it.
It's unfortunate... MOST PEOPLE are socially liberal and fiscally conservative if they are "independent"... That's me and a whole slew of other people who voted for Gary Johnson which, if the Republicans weren't so stupid, would have gotten my vote... Instead, they let people like you, WHO WILL ALWAYS VOTE FOR THEIR GUY ANYWAY run the show... Well, enjoy having your own party... You are just going to get fucked on a whole slew of shit elsewhere.
Obama didn't beat you... You guys beat your-damn-selves.

How well did the balloting work out for the extreme right wing conservatives?
You lost the White House because the RNC was corrupt throughout the primaries, your candidate didn't stand for anything, and the rest of your party was engaged in a strategy of sabotage against the president, rather than co-operating to fix America's problems.
You lost the White house the day you took out Ron Paul.

Here's a nice article that backs up my opinion with some real numbers... Welcome to the new reality.
http://www.cnn.com/2012/11/09/opinion/carville-buckwalter-poza-election/index.html?hpt=hp_t2
"Mitt Romney outperformed Sen. John McCain, the 2008 GOP presidential candidate, by 5 points with both white voters overall (59%) and white men (62%). He also bested McCain's margin among Republicans, winning 93% of self-identified Republicans as compared to McCain's 90%, and white evangelical voters, 79% compared with McCain's 73%. Romney lost by relying on a tapped-out, ever-shrinking group of voters."

We ran plenty of people with true conviction. Romney defeated them in the primaries.
Gary Johnson couldn't even COMPETE with the others who ran on the ticket. He did even worse than Ron Paul, and that takes some doing.
Yes, I voted for Romney. Though he was far from perfect, as far as being a conservative goes, he's almost Reaganesque, compared to Obama.
If anyone is going to get screwed, it's ALL OF US. Obama's policies will continue to fail and energy prices will go up even higher, along with unemployment.

Nobody's denying that. And where's the one medium through which Romney could have reached more black and Latino voters?
Answer: The same one, through which Bush went, to INCREASE his share of black and Latino votes, between 2000 and 2004: THE CHURCH.
Obama's flip-flop on marriage was served right up for Romney and he didn't use it. Not once (that I can recall) that he talk about faith-based organizations to help minorities (as Bush did).
Romney could have also detailed more about his educational program, particularly with African-Americans.
Yes, the economy is most important (which is why many are so baffled as to how Obama won with as a lousy an economic record as he possesses). Yet, you need a 1-2 punch. Romney didn't have it. That second punch is social issues. Tie them to the economic issues and how they help blacks and Latinos and you win.

Romney defeated those guys in the primaries because people such as yourself are EASILY manipulated... The Republican higher ups did not want a guy like Paul, and since they blackballed him, he gets shoved down... THEN they are FED a bunch of "WHATEVER YOU WANT TO HEAR" and boom... Romney gets the nomination.
So AGAIN... YOU BEAT YOURSELVES.

The one who gets the nomination has to get the top of the GOP to support him and in order to this he sells his soul to the lobbyists.
The lobbyists work for themselves not the people of the US

The Republicans didn't want Paul, NOR did they want a major social conservative. You act as if Paul were the only guy that got blackballed.
And, strange as it may sound to you, I'm not disagreeing with your overall assessment that we beat ourselves.
Stranger still, had Paul (by some act of God) won the GOP nomination, I WOULD HAVE VOTED FOR HIM.
In fact, I detail some examples of how we did just that: NOT pushing the social issues; NOT pushing commonalities in the faith community to attract blacks and Latinos.
Get a conservative that does that and is good on the economy and he beats Obama. Now, the GOP will have to produce such a candidate to defeat Obama's DNC successor.
-
I think his point is that you dont "learn" anything when you are wrong you just repeat it
Oh. I learn plenty. What I don't do is abandon my principles or beliefs, just because an election doesn't go to my liking.

You will just get crushed again...
You NEED to let Abortion go... you NEED to get over this whole gay marriage thing.
The longer you keep using these as talking points with the electorate getting younger and younger, the more you are going to lose.
But hey... you keep on talking about that shit and see how far you get.
The Dems did not need to talk about religion to get the VERY religious latinos to vote for them... Wonder what that tells you...
Most likely, it tells YOU nothing... because you seem quite inflexible.

It tells me that those issues (as is the case with black voters) take a back seat to economic ones.
Namely, as long as more blacks and Latinos are in poverty, they will go with the party that gives them bennies to subsidize them, while in it, or promises to punish those who (accurately or not) are holding them down.
Furthermore, faith-based issues go BEYOND abortion and gay "marriage". Or did you not see my mentioning of things such as education or faith-based organizations that help those very black and Latino communities.
Bush did those things and got a SPIKE in black and Latino voters in 2004. That's how he beat Kerry.
The point you missed is that the GOP doesn't need to look for a way to reach out to black people and Latinos. IT ALREADY HAS ONE. They need to use it.

You truly do not get it do you?
Freebies didn't lose this election... Social issues did.
The economy is VERY important, but no one had faith in either of them really... so it shows.
Apparently Independents are left leaning socially and this election showed it... But you keep on believing what you want.
Let's have this discussion in another 4 years and see what's what.

Blacks did vote for the most economic sound plan
romneys plan would lower taxes and increase military spending meaning larger deficit
I posted this several times what is it you dont get?
-
Facts are not beliefs Mcway
The facts are the GOP will not win, trying to be Democrat-lite. They will win by sticking to their principles and matching those principles to the needs of Latino and black voters.
-
Blacks did vote for the most economic sound plan
romneys plan would lower taxes and increase military spending meaning larger deficit
I posted this several times what is it you dont get?
The same sound plan by Obama that jacked black unemployment from 9% to nearly 15?
The same sound plan by Obama that had black youth unemployment at nearly 50%
The same sound plan by Obama that had 8% or higher unemployment for 44 of the last 46 months?
The same sound plan that has half of college grads, unable to get jobs in their fields?
Please explain this "sound economic plan" of Obama and how he's doing to do in a second term what he miserably failed to do in his first term.
As for military spending, I supposed you forget that military folks have families, too (as do defense contractors and communities in military regions). Not to mention pesky things just as fewer soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines and LONGER DEPLOYMENTS for those that remain.
-
The facts are the GOP will not win, trying to be Democrat-lite. They will win by sticking to their principles and matching those principles to the needs of Latino and black voters.
Their principle(s) is to protect the rich at all cost
So in order to get the Latino and Black vote the need to make them rich and to not give a damn about anyone else

The same sound plan that has half of college grads, unable to get jobs in their fields?
Please explain this "sound economic plan" of Obama and how he's doing to do in a second term what he miserably failed to do in his first term.
I didnt know Obama had a plan ???
Romneys plan would make the situation worse unless you can explain how cutting taxes and and using more money on the military is going to lower the deficit?
-
Their principle(s) is to protect the rich at all cost
So in order to get the Latino and Black vote the need to make them rich and to not give a damn about anyone else
And the Dems' principle is to make a permanent underclass, helping the poor by adding to its ranks.
Black people have been almost monolithcally voting for Dems for DECADES. How has that worked for their wallets?
-

You say Obama has no plan. And what he did last time spiked black unemployment from 9 to nearly 15% (not to mention, spiking unemployment up across the board).
Yet, you voted for him for a second term.
And speaking of deficit, Obama was supposed to cut that in half. He didn't even come close to doing such.

You are missing the point
Whatever Obama is doing its better than Romney
Cuts + military = bigger deficit
Its math Mcway not a pro Obama thing

what did he do that caused black people to lose their jobs?

I absolutely can not BELIEVE that anyone really attributes the UE spike to Obama... That shit happened from January 2009 to May 2009. It was ALREADY on the rise from November of 2008... All of it was related to the credit market freeze, the housing crisis and a ton of shit that happened before Obama even took office.
It's just FALSE to point the finger at Obama for that rise in UE and everyone knows it.
Now, if you want to blame him for not getting it down faster... fine... I will accept that to a point, but to attribute the RISE to him is just false.
-

Why do red states have more welfare recipients then?

Valid question here.

is that what McWay was referring to?
Maybe this will help him out

Dont expect an answer from Mcway he still hasnt answered how voting Romney (tax cuts+military spending) would be better than what Obama is doing.
Thats Mcway no answer just more BS day after day

Mcway owned again

b/c they have more ppl, if you look at welfare per capita the majority goes to blue states ;)
you should always look at the reasoning behind the numbers

-
And Boehner will likely pay the price for it.
I don't find it funny that I will be paying higher premiums for my family's healthcare. I don't find it funny at all that my taxes could be going up because of it.
When this becomes an unmitigated disaster, let's see how "funny and ironic" you find it.
Not true fox news boy. You are allowed to keep your insurance the way you like it. So all is fine in reality world.

Exactly! If you take out those first 4-6 months of Obama's first term, his jobs numbers are actually decent. Even as it stands now, his last three months in office created more private sector jobs than Bush's 8 years did. Also, if GOP Governors would have used their stimulus funds for STIMULUS rather than balancing a state budget think of how many more teachers, firefighters, police officers, etc. etc. we would have at work right now. I'm guessing that alone adds about a point to the unemployment rate. All this shit about Obama the Liberal, blah, blah, blah. More government jobs have disappeared under Obama than the past 30 years combined.
-
The facts are the GOP will not win, trying to be Democrat-lite. They will win by sticking to their principles and matching those principles to the needs of Latino and black voters.
uh huh...tell that to Boehner, Newt, Hannity, Rush, O'Reilly and all the rest who are now all of sudden coming out in favor of immigration reform......EVEN THOUGH THEY SAVAGED OBAMA FOR IT FOR FOUR YEARS...
funny what a huge loss will do to people
-
Then, you obviously haven't been on this forum very long or seen me discuss a lot of issues.
I discuss a lot of issues. I get some right; I get some wrong. So be it.
the problem is you never admit when you are wrong

As for military spending, I supposed you forget that military folks have families, too (as do defense contractors and communities in military regions). Not to mention pesky things just as fewer soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines and LONGER DEPLOYMENTS for those that remain.
this has always been that way..why is Obama to blame for that???
-

We've always had 8% unemployment, half of college grads not finding jobs in their fields and half of black youth unemployed?
What are you smoking?

One, I've answered that question several times beforehand .
Two, notice you didn't answer MY question, regarding how Obama is going to succeed in his second term, when he failed miserably in his first term, regarding unemployment, job creation and cutting the deficit in half.
You are missing the point
Whatever Obama is doing its better than Romney
Cuts + military = bigger deficit
Its math Mcway not a pro Obama thing
A stimulus that was supposed to keep unemployment under 8% had it over 8% for 44 straight months.
It's math, alright. ::)

I have a few problems with Obama care but I have benefited from it. I take a medication that costs over nine thousand dollars a month without insurance. I would be in dire straights without the provision that bars insurance companies from denying coverage to patients with a previous condition.

$108,000 / yr on medication? :o :o :o
DANG!!! prozac has really gone up!
{ba dum ching} sorry... couldn't resist. I'm feeling silly tonight. ;)
But seriously, $100K + for medication just blows my mind.

Even if it were, why would I take it? Nobody is taking away my love of oiled up men in thongs...NO ONE!

Hahaha. Why you! I know it's hard to resist. Wouldn't be getbig without people busting your chops. It is expensive but with insurance I pay 80 a month.
-
"FOX" didn't call Romney in a landslide. Two pundits, who are on the right, did: Morris and Rove.
Other pundits, (Beckel, Sabato, Williams, etc) called it for Obama. Others made no call.
-

I hear ya! :P

$9,000 per month vs. $80 per month.
That right there is the best argument anyone has put forth in favour of Obamacare.
Sorry, I'm a Canadian who enjoys universal healthcare coverage, and my mind is still doing loopty-loops over those costs.
-
George Will doesn't work for Fox. He works for ABC.
Wayne Allen Root? Never seen him on Fox before.
The point, of course, was that Republican/conservative pundits called it for Romney; Liberals called it for Obama. That is contrary to the claim that the entire Fox network called it for Romney

you are correct. What we know is that those who predicted obama win were using that +6% dem sampling, which ended up very accurate. Those who said that was oversampling were very wrong. Sound like +6% of the population is the new goal of the repub party - they gotta win em back somehow.

You also said that 3 million GOPers stayed home. That's what the folks who were screaming oversampling (including me) didn't take into account.

Was mitt too moderate for the base? Would newt or santorum have done better with the base, but lost the moderates that Mitt won? Or did the moderates snub mitt due to the positions he had to take (I will end planned parenthood)?
I still can't figure out how he got fewer votes than mccain, that's nuts, he spent way more $ and those ten million obama voters taht stayed home didn't switch to mitt.
-

the actual voting certainly seems to have oversampled the Dems and the Independents who were were told would go 2 to 1 for Repubs must not have gotten the message
-

Mitt was SEVERELY conservative
he said so himself who would know better than Mitt
I guess the people of America just don't want a severely conservative leader in spite of McWay's belief that they do
-
You truly do not get it do you?
Freebies didn't lose this election... Social issues did.
The economy is VERY important, but no one had faith in either of them really... so it shows.
Apparently Independents are left leaning socially and this election showed it... But you keep on believing what you want.
Let's have this discussion in another 4 years and see what's what.
What are you talking about? Romney WON the independents. The problem was that 3 million Republicans sat this one out.
http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/332926/romney-won-independents-key-states-it-wasnt-enough-katrina-trinko
-
do we know that it was the far-right base that really sat home on election day?
if so, it makes one wonder why Mitt pandered to them in the first place. Look at huntsman, also a 100-millionaire who chose to refuse those pledges. He was called too moderate - then those far right people making all the rules didn't even bother to show up and vote anyway!
Romney should have told them to fck off, he's a moderate, live with it or choose one of these unelectable messes.
-

maybe you should read the entire article and not just the part that you like
Now there were states where Obama won independents: including Florida, where he led by 3 points; Iowa, where Obama won independents by a whopping 14 points; and New Hampshire, where he led by 7 points
here's the bottom line, more people voted for Obama and also for the Democratic candidates and that's why he won
if your party doesn't think it's important enough to show up and vote and that's why you think you lost then your party needs to figure out a way to fix that.
Why did 3 million Republicans stay home when they could have voted AGAINST obama.
Maybe they don't like the Democratic message but they dislike the Republican message even more
-

this appears to be what McWay believes and also, somehow, that these 3 million far right people represent the views of the majority of the country
of course, more likely these 3 million extreme conservative are a tiny minority within their own party and really have no one other than a handful of kooky congress people who represent their views. It's easy to win as an extremist in a small red state with a low # of voters or even running unopposed. They are the rare exception of the electorate and do are not represntative of the country or even their own party

Bullshit!
As I showed in my PREVIOUS article... The evangelical republican base came out MUCH higher for Romney than it did McCain.

So these 3 million preferred Obama over Romney. Must be the intelligent GOP voters
