Title: Breakfast: yes or no?
Post by: cephissus on March 11, 2013, 12:05:45 AM
I've always eaten breakfast, and treated it the same as any other meal.  These days, usually eggs/toast and an egg white/juice combo.  Anyway, recently I've been skipping it (something I really pretty much NEVER do) and am surprised to find it actually really puts a damper on my appetite.  I've been able to go well past "lunchtime" without eating more than maybe 200 calories when I've skipped.

So how about you, do you eat breakfast?  Why, or why not?  What about all those people who say "breakfast is the most important meal of the day"... helps your brain, "boosts your metabolism", and all that stuff?

I know many people who these days skip the breakfast in the name of intermittent fasting.

It seems like such a good opportunity to fill up on nutrition, why would you miss that? You need vitamins and minerals from nutritious food through out the day or you might lack something, might start loosing hair etc.

exactly the same as cephissus.

Breakfast used to be the one meal I thought I'd die without, but I've not only survived missing it, i don't really miss it at all. Hasn't affected my workouts in the least and I'm leaner than before.

I was always an advocate of fasting, but more in the direction of one week without food every few months, or a day without food every week, instead of foregoing a meal every day.

Depends what you call breakfast.  Not the Dessert that americans call breakfast because it's early in the morning.  I was watching a Diners, Drive Ins and Dives and this place makes a blueberry coffee cake and serves it with whipped cream and syrup and this fat ass eating it says "It's like dessert but it's actually breakfast"  Sorry fucker, it is dessert you fat fuck.

I usually always make a lot of dinner the night before and have some leftovers for breakfast.  lean protein, not too much carbs.  Always makes me feel better.

I ate a goddamn tuna sandwich off a paper towel at 5:30 am behind the wheel of a filthy '05 white van today.  The only task remaining at this point is to actually move into the trailer park.

I've lost about 30 pounds skipping breakfast and making lunch a grainless, vegan meal. Usually its salad or lentil soup. Dinner is anything I want.  8)

nothing feels you up like oatmeal with crasins in it...

My mom's from the south, so Breakfast/Brunch is very important. And large. So when I fix breakfast it tends to be large.
If in the mood, I'll eat egg whites, turkey sausage or bacon, toast, fried potatoes (no salt), fried apples.

Or sometimes it will be blueberry pancakes/waffles, sausage (Jimmy Dean-Hot).

And after a workout, it will be a bowl of oatmeal or shredded wheat cereal by Kashi.

Hardly ever eat breakfast. Do not have an appetite in the morning. IS breakfast the most important meal of the day? Sounds like a bunch of crap perpetuated by the companies that make breakfast foods, to con you into buying their stuff. Sounds like a conspiracy to me. Where is cswol when you need him?

I wake up and have some juice, then dont eat for about an hour usually.   no appetite yet.  however, I'm up eating at 3 am still most nights.  Still full when 10 am arrives.

eat when only when you are hungry and only eat enough to minimally satiate your hunger.

it won't kill you not to eat if you are not hungry.

depends...if you wake up with a empty stomach, and you live in a farming community...you have no energy to do chores...

After all, breakfast means to "break the fast" (correct??)---which was the whole night before.

Of course the corporations decided to market this as well, but this was before they started doing that.

What is breakfast?

BREAK FAST.  That is the first meal to break your fast from the night.  So if you wake up at 9 and eat your first meal at 1 then that is your breakfast. not lunch, but breakfast. If you don't eat until 5 pm then that is your breakfast.  So those of you that claim to "skip" breakfast are not skipping a fucking thing.  You're just delaying when you eat your first meal to break your fast.

These kind of semantic arguments are usually put forward by people with autism spectrum disorder. Most rational people understand the idea of breakfast as a meal eaten in the morning, regardless of it's technical definition. "skipping breakfast" generally implies that the subject is depriving themselves of one of several meals eaten over the course of the day, most likely the first.

these are sheep that are told to eat three times a day.  Breakfast, lunch and Dinner.  But true bodybuilders don't classify their meals like the sheep.  We simply label them meal 1, meal 2, meal 3 etc...

you can not store protein. You need to have protein in you every 3-4 hours whether your are natural or not steroids and HGH will not work without protein, everything revolves around it.  bought into that "drugs are everything" diet means fuck all....bullshit.  I actually noticed signifigant gains once i bumped my fat intake. reason i eat threee meals a day now is cause im broke not cause it htink its optimal..

very well worded.

also, it depends if one has eaten before sleeping.i always have my biggest meal right before going to sleep.

when i wake up,im not to hungry but full of energy that way.

works for me

X2. I eat pretty light during the day, and go all out at night after training. Usually a large beef and broccoli and a large white rice from the chinese place. Then in the morning, a couple of scoops of whey and a couple of bananas.

What? Read some fucking studies, jesus, you have stable level of aminoacids for more than 8 hours after meal with just caseine and eating something before even makes this process longer.

You have no fucking idea what you're talking about.

IF I do consume food when I first awake, its usually light eating, like one scoop of protein powder and an orange or a banana. Maybe a small amount of oatmeal.

The thought of eating a hearty breakfast (eggs, toast, bacon, pancakes) so early in the morning is a nauseating thought.  :-\ :-\

I have energy until I eat and get slowed down, so I just push my first meal as far back as I can and time it in conjunction with my workout, or with whatever activities I'll be doing later in the day. The more I'm going to do, the more I'll eat. But if I'm sitting on my ass in the office then there's no need to eat a meal.

I was scared to do this at first for fear of losing muscle, but even 100% clean I haven't lost any. It just keeps me leaner and then when I eat, I fill out instead of bloating. Just recently the intermittent fasting thing became popular and I was glad to know I wasn't alone. I thought I was just imagining things.

Give it up, man. You're so off base. You're buying into the whole catabolism scare. You will lose nothing more than milligrams of amino acids. It means sweet fuck all in real life.

Supplementing with only enough exogenous test to bring you to normal levels will be enough to neglect your diet hardcore without muscle wasting. Doing any sort of"cycle"and you're laughing.

I think I know where you're going to go with the GH thing but just stop now. A couple of years from now you'll cringe over your earlier posts.
