If his nose gets any wider it will eclipse his shoulders.

Given the recent death of Nasser, one must wonder what Phil "thinks" about too much AAS, GH and insulin.  Probably not much.
"Ohh no! Nasser died! He was young and still using steroids?! Cognitive alarm! Alarm! Alarm!... Cognitive dissonance initiated! Wait... its been 3 hours i need some protein. Prior knowledge forgotten and filed away in subconscious for next pang of pain from kidneys/liver." Learning fails to take place. The conversation was never had. His life will fail steadily and then suddenly.

Nope, we all have kidneys, and too much protein isn't good for your kidneys, without functioning kidneys you die.

Stupid twat.

You can gain muscle on 1 gram per pound of bodyweight
Anything over 2gms per pound is too much

how much protein is too much, in your opinion?

There's no exact answer on this, like x grams per 1 pound/kilo of body weight. The color of your urine is an indication, but nothing more than that.

so science has no answer about how much is too much?

i remember being taught at university that the brain needs a minimum of 100 carb grams per day for proper functioning

Heath, or any bodybuilder for that matter, is the last person I would listen to for nutritional advice. Nutrition is a science. I will get my science from the scientists.

i read a book on sports nutrition by a scientist

and the chapter on bodybuilding was telling you guys to eat way more carbs and way less protein

he said that bodybuilders are the most misinformed group of people in all of sports

1.5grams of protein per kilogram of bodyweight

and probably counts protein from non-animal sources

so what do you think

First of all, protein need is prob the most discussed topic in muscleland. It not only depends on lifestyle and individual factors like weight, sex, activities, being natural or chemical enhanced, your training and so on..., but also on how you define the result of too much protein? (kidney conditioning/creatinine levels, anabolic state, etc?). The nutrient-fysiology relation remains a very complex one.

good point, and i like to get my protein from food and not supps, so eating 1 gram per pound can be quite a fucking hassle, especially when dieting and you need to be careful not to consume too many cals

i've seen many reputable sources that say that 1.4 grams per kilo is enough

Seriously, Im not and never have been a big protein eater, I eat more carbs generally and feel better on a high carb diet.
Protein-wise its chicken and steak for me with a few shakes thrown in, I am losing my faith in shakes at the moment due to the amount of shit they add to them.

Probably better off with a few eggs mixed with milk.

To be honest, I am not the most informed person about this stuff. I train and try to eat a balanced diet. I dont think that one needs to consume ALL that protein to build muscle. Then again, it depends how much muscle we are talking about. I guess its all relative.

Either way, if I had a choice to either listen to Heath or a scientists about nutrition, Ill go with the scientist.

This is correct high protein usage is not necessary mostly driven by merchants trying to sell products and hard on the kidneys. Yea relative to your bodyweight, I say 1 gram enough per pound of bodyweight.

A LOT OF BODYBUILDERS ONLY COUNT PROTEIN FROM ANIMAL SOURCES

SO WHEN THEY SAY THEY ARE EATING 300 GRAMS OF PROTEIN

THEY ARE ACTUALLY EATING LIKE 450-500

Mike was right. It's appreciating the fact that we all have our subtle differences, but it's across a spectrum that will always be populated largely by the "average man", thus they are the one's you factor in to your studies first and then tweak things based on the extremes at either end of the spectrum.

I take a whey protein supplement but I do wonder if I'm wasting money. The magazines need to push the protein requirement. Just look at all the protein powder ads. I use to take one in the morning with breakfast and one after working out. Now it's just once after the workout.

Is it really one gram a day? While not bodybuilders but insane athletes, Kenyan marathoners train on grains, vegetables, fruit and only on special occasions meat. I doubt they get 50 grams of protein yet they can run 20 miles a day training at insane paces.

When ever I read what looks like a legit study on protein requirements using protein in and protein used it's always along the same thing Mentzer and Jones pushed back in the day.

In this day and age drugs, not genetics, not willpower, not tenacity, not training and eating "right", make the bodybuilder.

Phil heath thinks it's ignorant to believe he uses steroids.

SLAM: What do you say to people who accuse you of using steroids?

PH: When they ask me that, I ask, Why dude, you think I need to? I think that’s just common ignorance. Usually, people that do that are insecure already so they think that’s the only way I got like that. And what people have to focus on is, ‘What is he doing to get himself like that?’ They don’t wanna ask. If it was that easy, everybody would be good. So it has to be more than that. And we’ve all see multiple athletes. Are you seriously gonna discount that I get up at 4:30 every morning and go do 45 minutes of cardio. They don’t realize I eat seven or eight times a day of healthy food. Most people couldn’t tell me the macros that are in every meal they take throughout the day. Because the average person doesn’t do it. They’re not gonna know how healthy fats work and guess what? I get paid to do this. Has anyone ever known someone that could just look at a weight and grow? No. Sure, I’m genetically gifted, but what if someone genetically gifted like me, took that talent and became educated about nutrition and given the money and resources to do it? You’d look like me too. My job is to weight lift. I train with best equipment. I get more treatment on my body than the average football player. Acupuncture four days a week, massage one to two days a week, I get chiropractic work, I get decompression people don’t even know what the hell that is, which is elongating the spinal cord and vertebrae. They don’t educate themselves on the process. I have an infrared sauna at my house to eliminate toxins and hyperbaric chamber in my house. Just all the things I mentioned.

From what I read, Heath thinks people are ignorant for thinking steroids are the sole/primary reason he looks the way he does.

They discount all the other stuff he does (as do many on this forum). They think they're simply a syringe away from a Sandow.

i'm still convinced that it's just basically calories in vs. calories out, but the thing that's driving me kinda nuts is how much protein is really needed ???

i had a pretty smart and experienced guy tell me that one only needs 100 protein grams per day while dieting in order to not lose fat

don't know. But generally speaking, Phil should know that he could himself die easily before 50 like Nasser. He won't be laughing in the coffin.

You don't see that many pro bodybuilders dropping dead, but there's a lot of them with organs related problems..... But is just like the steroids they take, they won't mention it.

LOL^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

get up at 4:30 to do cardio, sleep the rest of the day

So true...This Phil guy thinks getting up at 4:30am and walking on a treadmill at 3.0 like most of the middle aged old ladies is doing cardio. lol

The ones that stay heavy after organ problems and cancer are the real mentally ill fella's...They just can't handle being skinny/thin because their life revolved around being big. I believe it was Nassar who said he'd rather be dead than small.

He has to say that because he is in the industry with sponsors of selling protein supplements. You can never take a sponsored man's information seriously.

Bagels & orange juice...  ::) has that 'scientist' any knowledge of the glycaemic index and the effect on insulin levels?

Glycemic index is irrelevant unless you're diabetic.

I think having one or two lower protein days a week might not be a bad idea.

The reason theres a big push on protein is because its hard to eat 400mgs of protein a day, easy though to drink it.

Hence buy all this shite powder.

Cherching!!!!!

400 grams per day? shit man! it's a real pain in the ass to even get 200 grams per day only from food sources (especially when on a diet)

so science has no answer about how much is too much?

i remember being taught at university that the brain needs a minimum of 100 carb grams per day for proper functioning

Must be true because nothing they ever taught at University has ever been wrong.

The video is a month old so he is not making fun of Nasser.

He is not saying you should eat small amounts of protein in the video?? Quite the opposite, he says:
"don't take this protein, take carbs like and be fat and groce, like. don't get shredded, why get shredded? that's ugly nasty..."

Phil has claimed to eat 900g of protein per day in the past...

There are "office" people in the gym, who workout 2-3x a week, but eat the following:
breakfast: bread with 2 slices of deli meat and cheese -> max. 8g protein
lunch: some cheap menu from the canteen, e.g. meat with potato, pasta or rice -> max. 20g protein
snack in the afternoon, e.g. a Snickers -> 2g protein
dinner: pizza, sandwich etc. -> again, max 10g protein
_____________
Max 40g protein altogether, lots of trans fats, saturated fats, simple carbs etc.

and they look like skinnyfat shit.

There's no need to make it so hard on yourself. I get most of my daily 250 grams from these. :)

But it's on those rest days when you're body is in repair mode, and puts those amino acids to use.
