I used a G shock to wake myself up for work for 25 years. I use it every time I run or bike to time it. I use the count down timer to beep when 3 minutes is up when I hit the heavy bag.  I swim in the ocean with it and with a quick rinse in the sink it's perfect. I even dropped it out a second story window and when I went down it worked and looked perfect. The battery dies in about 5 years. To lazy to replace the battery. I just buy another one. Great watch. I have a dress watch but this is the watch I use.

I actually have an Invicta, but it is not nearly as gaudy as this.  Basically an understated Rolex stainless submariner clone.  Ironically, it runs better than the several Rolexes I owned in the past, and hasn't broken any parts like the real ones that I owned.  Good buy for the money, similar movements inside as well.  I love Rolexes, but they tend to require significant upkeep in my experience.  Not a big fan of huge watches as I have little wrists, but nice acquisition Ach  ;D

Silver or gold watches have their place, with certain outfits. There is a system to pairing a watch with an outfit, like what color dress pants you pair a leather band vs a silver band. Same concept as pairing a tie with a dress shirt and dress pants.

This is applicable to those like me who have to wear a monkey suit every day  :D

I own this but with a gold dial and all gold bracelet, probably my thinnest watch but haven't worn it in years!

You mean you used 5 G shocks to wake yourself up for work for 25 years.  That is, if you replace them every 5 years as you state.

That said, high end mechanical watches are really jewelry and status symbols these days.  A cheap Japanese or Korean watch costing less than $25 is more accurate than a Rolex Chronometer.

When I first started buying them they were about $25 bucks in 1982 or so. Now they are over $100. I will replace the battery now if I had the new version. I go on ebay and find a brand new never used G shock from the past version I'm fond of.

Some guys like to wear fine clothes, shoes and yes fine watches. Some men dress like they want to get on the people of Walmart site. I wear a ratty tee shirt working out or washing the car. If I'm going to a restaurant or a meeting I'm dressing GQ like an esquire.

yes .. it is a nice elegant accessory .. personally, I cannot justify myself spending all that money .. I always find better things to do with the cash

You don't have to spend a ton of money to buy a nice looking watch.  Hell one of my favorite watches, was a $30 dollar no name military style.  It seriously looked like it was $600, people would stop me and ask about it.

I own two Invictas, this one in the original post and an all black diver and they both get way more attention than my Omega Seamaster or my Tag Heuer Indy 500
(http://www.precisiontime.co.uk/images/omega/watch_omega_seamaster_2220.80.00.jpg)

yea, but a proper swiss watch isn't about getting attention. it's about understated quality and simplicity... and value. You spend $500 on an invicta, and sell it next year for $50... you spend $4k on a Panerai Luminor Marina and sell it next year for $4k... sell it 5yrs from now for $3500, sell it 10 yrs from now for $4500.

Omega's are probably the most undervalued watches available. If somebody is looking to get into swiss watches... QUALITY swiss watches.. you can can't go wrong with Omega. Esp the seamaster line.

I'd take a Tissot Automatic over an Invicta. They're in the same price range... for a lil more you can go with an Oris, which aren't as popular, but I really like them. My Uboat's are plenty big at 50mm, I can't imagine wearing an Invicta at 55mm +.

a watch is the only jewelry a man should wear (besides one of those shiney metal bands around a finger that signifies you gave your nutz to a woman.. ugh..)

Women look at 2 things on a man when they first meet (besides the face/body)... his watch, and his shoes. If you're not wearing a watch and wearing some Air Jordans, odd's are you're a boy in a man's body.

For a really nice automatic watch with a fine Swiss movement, I also have one of these:

It's the Marathon GSAR, an actual US issue for SAR teams.

I bought a watch from Galeniko via Paypal. It was a genuine rolex submariner for 2000 euros. No receipt, though. No worries though, Galeniko has never done anything illegal.

To be clear, Invicta is Swiss Made.

But yeah, Tissot is still a better watch - depending on the model though it usually runs more expensive than Invicta!

not all of them mate. they produce quite a few in China and Japan too:

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Invicta Watch Group is an American based watch company. Invicta Watch Group trades on the name "Invicta Watch Company" which was a company founded in 1837 by Raphael Picard in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.[1] The Picard family had owned and operated the company which produced Swiss mechanical timepieces offered at modest prices until the quartz movement revolution of the early 1970s.

In 1991 the company was purchased by a United States-based investment company. The corporate headquarters were relocated to Hollywood, Florida, where the company also operates its customer service call center.

Yes, it's an American owned company, but the movement is still Swiss made.  At least the ones I have are.  Not that it matters because its still an Invicta at the end of the day Lol.  I didn't buy this watch for "status" , I have high end luxury watches that I can wear any given day if I want to flaunt "status" but I don't care about that shit, I don't wear those nearly as much as I wear my cheaper models, I bought this watch because I liked the way it looked.

same here .. I could never spend a few grand on a useless thing. It is supposed to tell time and nowadays you are surrounded by watches plus your smartphone. Oh well, I guess it is a fashion thing. I do like certain watches style wise (Piaget).

no no, I was saying if a woman see's a grown man wearing some air jordans (or sneakers period) and not wearing a watch, it's a bad thing.

I like Cole Haan, but I prefer Rockport's. Aldo's fit too slim.

If you're wearing decent shoes and a watch, it shows you care how people see you. (muscle's aside)

in short

Nike Dunk's & no watch = BAD

Rockport slipons & a Tissot Automatic with black leather strap = GOOD.

lol

nah, never been a fan of Breitling's.

I'm a Panerai man, myself. I love'em. had a few Rolex's, including an 18k YM2, and I still have 2 GMT Master 2's, a coke dial and a pepsi dial. At the time I really liked them, but now I hardly wear them. Got rid of the YM2... it was wayyyy too flashy. Driving 15k cars and trucks, but wearing a 22k watch wasn't the right thing to do. lol. I'm waiting till one of my clients gets back from overseas to sell the GMT's, and i'll probably pick up a simple SS Submariner with black face/dial and put a black leather strap off a Daytona on it.

why have a watch, when have the time on the hone anyway, and there public watches, and other ppl with watches, can just ask them.

 ???

esfitness, swiss watches are vastly overrated, its all pr.

theres a former rolex engineer out there, he had fallout with rolex, and is making the same watches, same raw materials same everything, and offers them for like 10 times less money.

i should have used past term, courts have shut him and his company down.but yeah, go figure.

theyre better than the rest, but ridiculously overpriced none the less

swiss watches are an investment.

are swiss watches better than a Hamilton? you could argue they're equal... but the resale value of swiss is what sets it apart.

spend 1200 on a Hamilton and sell it a year later for 500, spend 3000 on an Omega Seamaster and sell it a year later for 2800.

Plenty of Rolex replica watches out there.  And, no, they are not the same at all.  And they are illegal, which is why that "former Rolex engineer out there" got shut down by the courts.

People keep buying Rolex because they are impeccably built, beautiful, and last forever.  Unlike shit like Invicta.  Not everyone can afford them, but that does not make them "overpriced."

You can always buy a $40 Casio, and it will keep better time than a Rolex.  But it's not the same thing. Rolex is about beauty, excellence, and the epitome of the watchmaker's art.

Im a big watch lover. I own a few pieces right now. My best one is a pristine Rolex explorer 2 that ive had for a few years. One of my favorite brands currently is victorinox. I think they're putting out some of the best mid range swiss pieces that most people can get their hands on. Another that I love it's from a not so well known brand called fromanteel. This baby right here is next in my collection.

Real tough watches usually do not have the date complication since it makes them more vulnerable.

My Seamaster is my most prized possession  8) (After my METRX protein shaker cup obviously)

I have a TAG Link also, but nothing matches the simplicity of the seamaster.

Compared to the TAG which was almost £2K, the Omega (£3300) is easily DOUBLE the quality. When you pick each one up, even the way the links move shows the engineering that has gone into them.

I'm not highly paid by any means, but I look at these as an investment for myself and my son - better than putting £5K in an account for him to blow at University lol

I can understand a tv, but these overpriced watches are for women.  Especially, the oversized ones now...ridiculous.

Where is the Luminox Navy Seal?  ;D

I went with the Invicta pro diver in the center bottom instead.  I was dying for the Luminox, but that Invicta was just easier on the wallet for the time being.

But the Luminox definitely has a place in my future when I can splurge!

One of them is fake.  (They're not both the same style either, one of them is the James Bond limited edition model with the gun barrel dial)

Actually, there are two replicas total in that collection.  Can you guys spot which ones? :)

The omega broad arrow?

Which one is the Omega Broad Arrow?  I don't have an Omega Broad Arrow. lol - think I know which on you are referring to.

The replicas are:

The Omega Seamaster James Bond Limited edition (2nd one on the top left - Funny, cause it actually weighs more than my real Omega Seamaster)

The black Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean (5th one on the top right)

lol - You'd be surprised about the good deals you could find online at watch sites, Amazon and Ebay even, but you have to make sure you're buying from a reputable source, and that you know how to spot a fake so you don't get played!

Even better deals on sites like Watch U Seek and Timezone.  They all have sales pages and I have never found better deals then from other watch addicts looking to unload quick.  I prefer to buy them gently used and fully depreciated.  A Rolex Deepsea can be found for under 8k and I almost bought a Pam 305 for under 7k.

http://www.watchrecon.com/  is a great site for finding watches being sold all over the net!  Pick your brand and find your watch.

I've purchased from prestigetime.com and jomashop.com  both have great deals as well!
