Jos LeDuc - 600
Kane - 405 (for sets - no max recorded)
-
Ken Patera did one power meet and was in the low 500's on bench, but I don't recall the exact number. He certainly would've crushed #600 + if he set his mind to flat benching, based on his much later performances.
-
When I was a kid I once saw old wrestler/manager Frenchy Martin bench 405 for like 8 reps in a gym in montreal
funniest part was he was tall but did not look the part of the typical strong bencher
-
how many on that list are dead?
-
Warlord was renowned for his ridiculous benching back stage, Kane is supposedly shockingly strong considering his reach / ROM. I, for an unknown reason, find it very hard to believe Batista could do 525, but you never know.
Fred Ottman, AKA Tugboat was a big bencher. Theres a clip of him doing easy short reps with 315, 405 then a single for 600 (possible slight assistance from spotters). 550 hes nailing all day long unassisted.
Also seen a clip in Cena's gym of Big E Langston getting 575.
I'm liking this thread, we need a good discussion on here........

Death list
-
Goodrum is not on the list athough he claimed pro wrestling once.
-
Also seen a clip in Cena's gym of Big E Langston getting 575.
Ettore Ewen is Langston's real name, he competes every once and awhile in the USAPL in the #275 and SHW classes. Best total is #2039. Very good deadlifter at #799, Bench was low #500's and Squat was a bit over #700.
-
I heard Farooq never worked out but would just wander into the gym on occasion and lift insane weights.
Wish Scott Norton was wrestling in wwe. He as big and looked really strong. I thing he might be in Japan.
-
What about "Macho Man" Randy Savage?
-
I remember watching a WWF talk show where Big Jon Studd allegedly benched 700.
-
A complete death list would be really sad to look at it considering how many of these dudes day way before normal people. I was a big fan for most of my life and met a lot of wrestlers. You don't get a real idea of how big they are until you stand next to them in person. Absolute monsters. Even the small guys are huge compared to normal people. I met Scott Steiner a few times when WCW would come to my town and he would always train at World Gym. He is a fucking freak in person and actually a pretty nice guy. Still the biggest freak wrestler I ever saw was Bautista when he was juiced to the max. Freak.
-
705 For Ted. Later did 718 in NH.
-
My childhood inspiration The Kaz 8)
-
;) Every one of these is exaggerated .
I can tell u one that isn't. Davey Boy Smith(British Bulldog). I offered to spot him with 585 in Golds in Florida back in 1990. He told me no he had it. He lifted it off himself and benched that shit for 2 clean reps. He looked huge, but was red as a beet the whole time he was there.
-
Didn't Kaz perform a 705 lb bench.
-
Didn't Kaz perform a 705 lb bench.
Naw, #661 was his best, and the IPF record for a bit. Arcidi surpassed it by a few pounds a few years after.
-
I have a hard time believing brett hart's 405, not that 405 is great, but I've shook his hand a couple times and I just can't see him every doing it.
also can't see lex luger hitting 530.. even at his biggest.
I don't see their frames supporting it.
-
Steiner absolutely could and did that bench poundage. I saw him with my own eyes do it and if i remember he did more than that. He was pretty messed up with injuries when I saw him, but even still he was a fucking beast strength wise. On a side note, i fucking loved wrestling during the late 90's!! It was actually entertaining. Once McMahon bought everyone out, he killed wrestling. No competition makes for a shit product.
-
here's what i have personally witnessed....
Davey Boy - pretty accurate. never saw him do a max single, but 5 for 10 was a common workout for him
Road Warrior Animal - i spotted him doing close grips with five plates and a ten per side. a few reps and perfect form. so 550 seems low for a bench single.
Chris Benoit - trained with him many times before he made it big. he was only about 230 at the time, but could do reps with 4 plates. he never touched his chest tho, which always bugged me. two inches shy of a full rep.
Bret Hart - during a very short period that he was trained by Grant McReynolds, he could do a four plate incline. wasn't that strong through most of his career. he has a membership at my gym currently.
Dynamite Kid - could bench 5 plates, but shouldn't have for the size of him. i think he could tap into some kinda psycho- strength.
Hawk - wasn't near as strong as Animal, but 5 plates woulda been pretty easy for him.
Steve Blackmen - big and lean, but never saw him train very heavy. when i was 20 he spotted me on a 350lb. attempt. the rep took me about 35 seconds and his hands never came off his hips. i think the only reason i made it was i thought i would die before he woulda helped. when i racked it, he looked totally unimpressed, and said 'i'd say thats about your max'. lol
Jim the Anvil Neidhart - one of the most truly powerful men i've ever met. even at 50 he could walk into the gym half drunk, and pause bench 4 plates like nothing without a warmup.
Triple H - trained at my gym once. 3 plate bench for a shaky 7 reps. surprised how weak he was. (coulda been a downtime for him, i'm sure he was stronger at other times).

I was going to comment that I'd heard Triple H wasn't very strong. I'm also wondering about the claim of the Ultimate Warrior doing 500. Granted he carried a lot of muscle early in his career, but he always struck me as more for show than strength.
-
If at his biggest, Brock Lesnar could bench 475.... There is no way in hell that Hulk Hogan could bench 550.
-
705 For Ted. Later did 718 in NH.
Also did 725 at a Mr. O contest....
-

Brock's 475 was the number taken from the NFL combine. He'd had a motorcycle accident prior to this apparently, and even though his ROM must be insane i have no doubt believing he could have benched more - quite a bit more - at his absolute strongest.
BTW Hogan's 550 is utter bullshit
-
Too many even numbers.
-
This list is fun to read but likely VERY inaccurate.
Ultimate Warrior was very strong. He once said he never went too heavy in anything for fear of injury, though. In the later '80s, I arrived at my gym shortly after he'd left, and my buds told me he was behind-the-neck pressing 275 like it was en empty bar.
Hulk Hogan would be crushed under 550 pounds, regardless of when this lift supposedly took place.
I watched Warlord press 455 for six PERFECT reps with no spot. He paused each rep on his chest with no compression. Total freak. Simply massive. His workout that day (that evening he was to wrestle in Toronto): squat: 315 for endless reps, 455 bench (as stated) and then 365 incline; again, like it was nothing. Oh, and he was super friendly and kind (gave me some spots on my dumbell presses and was very encouraging), despite looking like a scary behemoth.
I bench pressed with Brett Hitman Hart and he was using 225, and it wasn't super easy for him, either.
Arcidi was wearing an early version of a single-ply shirt when he hit his seven, I believe.
Kazmaier is more than likely the strongest presser of any of 'em. He hit six with 600 raw and he likely would have pressed 700 or more had he not torn his pec.
Doesn't matter who you are, a five bench isn't "easy", ever. Unless you're, like, Eric Spotto or some shit.
-
I heard Farooq never worked out but would just wander into the gym on occasion and lift insane weights.
Wish Scott Norton was wrestling in wwe. He as big and looked really strong. I thing he might be in Japan.
That's bullshit, Farooq is Ron Simmons he was a Great defensive lineman at Florida State! He played for Bobby Bowden! He also played in The NFL and CFL!
-
how many on that list are dead?
how many on that list actually benched the numbers claimed.
-
Vader was supposedly freak strong also, 550 - 600 bench has been thrown about in many discussions. Warlord & Anvil were 2 absolute powerhouses, i remember a shoot interview with Honky & Valentine where they said if Jim went stiff with a forearm strike he would just about knock you out.
-
That's bullshit, Farooq is Ron Simmons he was a Great defensive lineman at Florida State! He played for Bobby Bowden! He also played in The NFL and CFL!
Maybe he was on Herschel Walker plan?
::)

Wasn't Simmons so good they retired his number? Powerhouse, you dont look the way he did by training every once in a while.

Steiner was a monstrous guy , strong ass mofo..
his brother Rick was also a freak.
Jim Anvil strong as fuck. put up 500+ bench.
Scott Norton was a 600+ bencher.
These guys were all built for power with a super compact ROM.

Right on! :) Good stuff.
The Anvil was also a real cool cat IMO. Love the "physo-strength".

That's hilarious about Blackman, and I can totally see him doing that.
Triple H's "physique" has always been up and down over the years, no doubt depending on what and when he was running. I suspect he "could" throw up some decent weight at the right times.
Dynamite and Davey abused the shit out of any compounds they could get their hands on, which is how they both fukked themselves up royally later on.
My buddy trained with Warlord once back in Terry's prime. This was in an old-school power lifting gym with lots of impressive lifters. My friend said literally everyone in the place stopped to watch in awe of Terry's working sets, which weren't even his max!
Bret probably handled bigger poundages when he ran shit in his early WWF days. He was noticeably bigger then, and displayed signs of use.
Anvil was always crazy strong. He got his gimmick name after setting a record in an anvil toss event in Alberta, I think it was. Given his natural strength, it's crazy to think what he would have been like had he trained with serious intent. But, he was more concerned with partying and hard drugs in his prime - not that most guys weren't at that time.
-
Hogan 550?
::)
-
guys like jim neidhart and rick steiner were just bruting freaks, tough as nails and could pick up a house drunk with no sleep.
don't make em like that anymore.
that list is a popularity contest more than anything. lol @ triple h getting anywhere near 405 for reps.
hogan 550 , oh brother ::)
-
i have an 81 Ironman mag that has an article on Jim Neidhart. curly hair, baby face and clean shaven. he was with the NFL at the time. the article said he had been invited to the worlds strongest man contest. when most of the regular competitors heard he was gonna be in it; they all boycotted. so they retracted his invite.
i used to party with Jim. the amount of abuse he put on his system was uncanny, seriously i think most people would die of OD from what that guy did every single night.
-
caz and jon pol ran scared?
-
Most of those claims are bullshit
-
Hogan 550?
::)
Yeah, as Rob Fortress said, that's a bad joke. One of the trustworthy Ironage guys said he watched Hogan train a few times. Apparently his heaviest sets were with 405 for maybe 4-5 reps.
-
Not surprised to her Triple H was weak. he's a perfect example of all drugs. That's why he's weak even when he's big. I remember when he was a skinny fat bum as Hunter Herms Helmsly.
-
These are exaggerations.

Some are and some are not. Did u read the other post?
-
Wasn't Simmons so good they retired his number? Powerhouse, you dont look the way he did by training every once in a while.
Yes FSU did and Ron was known to throw up big numbers.
-
Goodrum is not on the list athough he claimed pro wrestling once.
The best I ever did was 395 for one struggling rep....now I just do 225 for reps, sometimes less as I practically have no joints anymore. I concentrate more on circuit training and aerobics to stay fit.
-

he was a big dude, had bad gyno in nwa/early wcw days.
-

Surely Eddie could have done more. He was pretty big later in his career.
-
Once I was observing benching of Don Muraco (The Rock) & Josip Peruzovich (Nikolai Volkof) in Dovey's gym (Sydney) it was massive,
Hussein Vaziri (Iron Sheik)was just seating.

Sheik wasn't one for gym training in his pro-wrestling years, but he was in decent shape and could swing a set of Persian clubs as well as anybody.

Most good bench pressers are fat asses with short arms.
-
Steve Disalvo - Strangler Steve - Steve Strong.
a good friend of mine who is not on the list, but probably one of the strongest benchers of a pro wrestlers ever. started his weightlifting career together with bill Kazmeir and Jeff Everson in Wisconsin.
I asked him what his best bench was and he said 606. I said there is a video of him benching 635. he said 'That was in the gym. not a competition. I didn't even pause that'. pretty damn honest to downplay it. that's how he was, hated talking about himself at the best of times.
-
Bill Zaz wasn't even a pro wrestler, not really fair to count him on the list imo.
I remember someone on here mentioning they saw Lex Lugar putting up 315 for 15 reps perfect form. Not huge strong but not bad for taller guy as lean as he was.
Certainly deserves more mention than HHH :D
Not sure how strong he was but I remember seeing Buff Bagwell in person when he was using heavy and guy actually looked good and barrel chest.
-
Most good bench pressers are fat asses with short arms.
not all 8)
-
Also did 725 at a Mr. O contest....
They took that lift away from Ted for not fully locking out. I trained with him some when I competed and his bone spurs were so bad he could not lock out.
-
Steve Blackmen - big and lean, but never saw him train very heavy. when i was 20 he spotted me on a 350lb. attempt. the rep took me about 35 seconds and his hands never came off his hips. i think the only reason i made it was i thought i would die before he woulda helped. when i racked it, he looked totally unimpressed, and said 'i'd say thats about your max'. lol
Haha, this is great :D
not all 8)

I would have paid to watch a workout seminar put on by the Road Warriors. Obviously what they were doing was working both for looks and function. They have a netflix bio thats about 2 hours long. Worth the watch. Read Animals' wikipedia page. Even his son, apparently, is a physical bad ass.
-
Bill Zaz wasn't even a pro wrestler, not really fair to count him on the list imo.
I trained with Lex Lugar when he was Larry Phol. He and Chris Duffy were training partners, he used to do 315 for 8-10 reps at the time. He was in his early 20's and was getting ready to play for the CFL!

did he always have a bad temper? he was freaking out in the gym one time because he couldn't get a pin out of a back machine. he screamed fuuukkkk as loud as he could and was pissed right off. I said hang on, here, and turned the pin and handed it to him. Macho Man and a couple other guys laughed their asses off.
-
I believe both R/R Animal and Jim the Anvil Neidhardt were as strong as their claims.
Neidhart had a huge power clean (I can't recall the amount) and could "hip-toss" guys across the ring with a great deal of momentum back in the early 1980's in Mid-South Wrestling. He had some legit throwing records as well, I believe.
Animal was one of the stongest wrestlers I'd ever seen. While I realize that pressing a wrestler overhead is assisted by the guy being lifted, Animal used to do reps, and a without knee-bend or momentum. He'd do it like a strict military press on purpose to show his strength.
At the same time, bench claims are bound to be over-stated, just based on the fact that everybody else is adding over 50 lbs more, except for the competitive powerlifters like Arcidi, Furnas and Kaz.
-
Ive seen a guy 230lbs bench 530, so whats so hard in believing 320lb Hulk Hogan benching 550?
-
Disalvo bench apf senior nationals - 606 gym 635. don't think he ever even tried on any type of bench shirt

He was pretty quiet didn't talk a lot, never saw him freak out or anything. I used to sometimes work in with him and Chris if we were all doing the same body parts.

How much did Dilsalvo weigh?

How much did Dilsalvo weigh?
in that pic about 290. about 6'1. later on he put on a lotta bad weight

Wasn't Simmons so good they retired his number? Powerhouse, you dont look the way he did by training every once in a while.
Simmons was one of those guys who was a true monster in college but just couldn't cut it in the NFL.
No shame in his game.
-
One thing... I have seen Chyna do 315 at a gym I went to when her and HHH were in town and dating. She can definitely do more than 310... I saw her do 315 at least 3 times.
-

was a good athlete, shame what happened to him... but some would disagree.

Yes, I remember that. I hang with Ted, going to lunch again on FRI actually...

Ive also heard that Warlord was an absolute beast in the gym...
-
Warlord lives in Pompano Beach in South Florida, and trained at a gym called Athletic Factor! Still may train there!

Id like to see what stack these guys are on.

How about Mark Henry?
Skandor Akbar's 500 pound bench is believable... I think he used to be a powerlifter and I remember Bill Watts commenting on about his weightlifting ability in an interview once, plus other articles about him mentioned his freaky strength. Ironically he is known as one of the all time iconic managers and not so much as a wrestler.
(I gotta remember to ask Karl Kox for a good Skandar Akbar story, I am sure he knew him well.)
I know people dog on Hogan about his strength but as mentioned earlier in this thread, in his prime he was still a very BIG man. I don't see why around 500 wouldn't be possible. 550 most likely a stretch though.

Totally. Look at the shape Hogan was in the early 80's. He was a fucking monster. I have no problem believing the bench number. Still the freakiest wrestler I saw is still Scott Steiner. Watching him train arms was crazy. Not sure if he loaded them with Synthol because he was fucking strong. Barbel curling with what most guys use for flat bench press.
-
Hulk was never lean by any definition but he was a huge fellá in his prime, he was "billed" (oh brother) at 6'7" 300 lbs, I would guess he was closer to 6'4" maybe 250-275. 500 lbs bench still seems like quite a reach for him though.

Just using bodyweight/size as an indicator isn't much use. Also, a guy who weighs 230 pressing in the mid-500s is either heavily using and specifically trained, or he is using a blast shirt, single- or multi-ply.
Just because Hogan hovered in the early 300s bodyweight during his prime does NOT mean he was capable of moving 550 pounds off his chest. This is a HUGE weight and most usually very specific training is required to achieve such a feat.
It's like those who suggest Arnold must have been able to press 500 or more because he had thick pecs and large biceps. ::) These types don't really understand strength, power and the other just-as-important factors that contribute to massive strength feats: neuromuscular efficiency, etc.

The weights, no matter how heavy, were as good as lifted when he walked into the gym and screamed at the plates, "Whatcha gonna do, when Hulkamania runs wild on you??"

x2, there is a HUGE neural component to strength (especially on one-rep maxes) that gets ignored around here pretty much all the time.
-

Yeah, for a site devoted to muscle, mass and that sort of thing, many here haven't the foggiest when it comes to strength and its development, and the different factors that affect its acquirement.
P.S. For absolute strength, the neural component is JUST as important, if not more so, than the muscular mass.
-
Point is, there is no requirement nor any expectation that those bench numbers are legitimate. Wrestlers are not expected to be truthful, about wrestling, training, drug use, or frankly, anything else. Poetic license.
-
Id like to see what stack these guys are on.
Back around 2005-2007 when a lot of online clinics were busted, it was revealed what certain athletes were receiving. Guerrero, Benoit and a few other big WWE names were mentioned. I don't remember the specific compounds, but it'd be easy to search.
Hogan loved Deca back in the glory days of Hulkamania (80's). It was revealed he received quite a bit when he took the stand during Vince/WWF's deposition for the steroid trial.

yes, for about a 10 week period of his entire career. he was being trained by the late Grant McReynold's and actually did a four plate incline.

Yep.
Besides, as I said, there were credible eyewitnesses who saw him struggle to do a few sets of low reps with 405. Yeah, he was huge an all that, but then, so was Nasser ... and if memory serves, Mr. Fortress, you watched Nasser have a VERY hard time doing incline presses with his bodyweight (or thereabouts). A 300-320 lb. Nasser packs waaaaay more muscle than Hogan could ever dream of, but there ya go. Some big dudes are extremely strong, like Kaz. Then you have your Dillets, Nassers and, yeah, apparently, the "Hulkster."
-
But he slammed Andre! ;)

Oh, yeah. Nasser was about 320 pounds, quite lean, and he was not banging 315 off his chest on the incline for more than a few shit reps. I spotted the guy. Even taking into account that he was in a strange gym and out of his day-to-day element (factors that can very much hinder performance), this is weak stuff for a guy well over 300 pounds and pumping gobs of anabolic drugs into his system.

thing is he was massive at 320 doing double his weight 640 is still lightweight when guys 250/275 putting that up.

Didn't Nasser claim strongest seated dumbbell press ever in bbing??
-
This list is fun to read but likely VERY inaccurate.
There was a guy I worked with that was skinny as hell all year. Then he would do some D-Bol for a few weeks and bench 225 for around 30 at around 180 lbs. I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it.
Doesn't matter who you are, a five bench isn't "easy", ever. Unless you're, like, Eric Spotto or some shit.
-
What the hell. My computer is like a month old and acting the fuck up. What I posted was that I worked with this skinny kid that would do a couple weeks of D-Bol and would be benching 225 for around 30 at approximately 180 pounds easy. I would be willing to bet he couldn't even dead 275 at the same time.

i dont get why ppl say hulkster wasnt strong.
he weighed a 300lbs and was actualy kinda lean, he was just always full of water, too much test and hard keep good diet when always traveling.
sen him in person right before me, definitely over 6f4.
also seen lex luger, he was smaller and shorter than one might think.he looked like regional level bbuilding contest winner though.
again i wouldnt say hulkster was never lean.he was never shredded, but lean enough.

When WWE came to Seattle for wrestlemania, a bunch if wrestlers came to the GOLDS gym on Broadway, and Albert, was a pretty strong guy, benched 405, for like 12, super easy reps then hit the treadmill after his workout. Saw Jazz, (African American, female wrestler) train back and she one-arm rowed the 120lb dumbells, for a good six reps.
But holy S**t when Steiner came in. The guy is just on another level in training, benched 545lbs like it was nothing, then did the 170lb dumbells like it was nothing, all rapid pace, no stopping, and preacher curls with a cambered bar with two plates aside. The whole gym pretty much "shutdown" and watched him lift.
Guy really is a genetic freak:

Magnum TA - 350 (for 10-12 reps)

wresteling is fake so the lift will be fake too.

Mike Graham 440, Steve Keirn 425 are both bullshit.
I think Kevin Sullivan and Iron Sheik could both do more than what is listed

Im at a loss as to all the doubts about these guys bench press claims.
OTH claims 500lb and no one bats an eyelid and these guys outmuscle and outweigh him by a mile.
right now, 500 pounds on the flat bench and 315 for 20 reps :P
100lb in your face dumbell curls, 215 preacher curls
7 plates per side deadlifts

cant see cena standing out at all if he were around back then either.
most of the claims on there are bullox but some of them are way under. im sure most on here know which those are.

I once witnessed the Honky Tonk Man bench 750 pounds. He then curled 100 pound dumbbells in my face and squatted his pink Cadillac.

:D :D

Mike Graham 440, Steve Keirn 425 are both bullshit.
I think Kevin Sullivan and Iron Sheik could both do more than what is listed
as much fun as people made of the angle, those "Persian Clubs" were no joke

how much here for cena

Looks like a ton right? But it's only #245. The plates are the old Kraiburg super thick 25kg training bumpers, they're 5 - 6" thick.
I have seen Cena get into the low 400's on regular plates though.

Then that would be 265, not 245 ;)

What is the point of a 25kg plate that thick?

Bumper plates, the clues in the name.

Bumper plates, the clues in the name.
yes but there no need for it to be that thick.
Reminds me off those shitty black plastic weights filled with cement that look huge but weigh about 5kg.
-
What is the point of a 25kg plate that thick?
None really, they're back from when those black training bumpers were new on the scene. For some reason all the #25kg were made that way, and that series of bumpers was so cheap and decent that no one cared. The #25kg were sold cheap after a bit, some places blew them out at $ .50 a pound.
Some guys liked them for overhead work like axle and log press. They're a bit larger than some #45's, so you could mix iron and bumper, and still have the safety of a bumper plate. Most of the time coaches just used them to weigh down things or stacked them and used them as a stool.
-
cena has a cool build..strong/thick/decent shape enough def/condtion ...

Yes she could, used to train at the same gym. Saw her sister yesterday at the gym, big girl herself...

;) Every one of these is exaggerated .
Plus Ted did 725 in a contest, only to be overturned the next day, said he didn't lock out. (Ha, no one locks out these days, PL judging is lame).
He had large calcium deposits in his elbows which he had removed, he could then lock out properly after that.
But his 705 in Gus's contest was the record for years... If these wrestlers didnt do it in a contest then it's just a fable for most of them...
-
Kathy and Joanie have same genetics. Kathy is my age(50)and still looks great.
Big article last week on Joanie on Bleacher report:

Very sad story from the start. The reporter did a great job on the piece.

Triple H - over 400 (no figure stated beyond that)
Scott Steiner - 525 (he claimed he could do over 600 in the dying days of WCW BUT Steiner was heavily into kayfabe back then and had stated in previous interviews that he avoided the benchpress where possible, owing to injuries)

Mark Henry - 620
Magnum TA - 350 (for 10-12 reps)

I trained at Luger and Stings gym Main Event Fitness years ago in Marietta (and their old one on Buford Highway before they sold it to Ropeman). Saw many WCW guys train there. And a few WWF guys when in town.
Kane was way stronger than that.
Eddie G. I saw him doing 315 for a few reps on the incline
Scott Steiner never used free weights for chest. All Hammer Strength and cables. Said it was due to his blown out arms.
Sting was a wimp.
Sullivan is about right.
Flair - never saw him train with weights. He always came in with Sullivan, and Kevin would hit the weights and Flair always did 1.5 hours on the stair master. Maybe he came back and weight trained at other times when I was not there, but every time he was in town at 9am he was on the damn stair master.
I have posted that Zybsycko was shockingly strong. First time I saw him he walked in, warmed up quick and then did set after set with 405 for 10-12 reps. And the last reps of each set were not even shaky. I was floored.

Larry trained weights with Bruno in Bruno's basement.
They were always built very similarly. Larry had the same chest and legs, etc. I just think he threw up slightly smaller numbers than Bruno.
Zbyszko was quite candid in his shoot interview with Highspots a while back.

As far as HHH(Paul Levesque)I highly doubt he was pressing over 400.
When he and Joanie were together he maybe got 315(365 at most). She was stronger than him.

There was also Coffee's Gym a couple miles from Main Event. Which was a dirty ass no nonsense hard core gym where every woman in the there benched over 275 and the men were massive and ripped primitives communicating in grunts and head twitches. Half the equipment in there was held together with duct tape. You would feel like you needed a tetnus shot after a good work out. Loved that place. Nikita had his photo on the wall there, never saw him in person but did see Animal, Rick Rude, Raven, Sid Vicious and Rick Steiner were regulars there. Animal and Rude usually arrived in the same car together, sometimes trained together but mostly did their own thing.
Zybysko was shocking to see move 405 for 10-12 full reps so easily. I mean, you would have never thought it possible from looking at him. Dude wasn't even at failure on the last reps either. He could have gotten a few more each time. Just racked the weight, stood up and would put his hands on his waist and do these waist twists from left to right, then interlock his fingers and stretch his arms up over his head, palms up at the ceiling and hold it for about thirty seconds then jump back and do another set. He did over a dozen sets of flat bench like this. Wasn't even breathing hard after the last one. Just took his weight off and left. Not even sweating.
In addition to Zybysko, Goldber, Even Kargis (sp?), DDP, and a couple of luchadores trained at the Main Event on Buford (which Ty Felder "Ropeman" later bought and renamed after himself)
Lee Haney's Gym downtown had Abdullah the Butcher (believe it or not) and Iron Shiek (who sweated buckets nonstop leaving pools of sweat everywhere and had the WORST form ever witness in a gym. Trust me.... it was the stuff of legends), and occasionally Ron Simmons and Norma Smiley.
Powerhouse Gym in Alpharetta had Glacier, Robbie Rage (big ass dope head), Kenny Kaos, Perry Saturn (strong ass dude too would rep standing dumbell shoulder presses with the 100 set of dumbbells for his rep) and Hogan every now and then.
Main Event on in Marietta had Sting, Luger, Bagwell (total ass hat), Savage, Arn, Jericho, Malenko, Nash, Beefcake, and a lot of the almost-mid-carders and career jobbers like Johnny Swinger, Sick Boy, Lodi, etc...

Michaels could do 225 for a solid 12 reps. At the present moment is training like a madman and undergoing cosmetic surgery to return as the face of WWE. Vince wants him to look 20 years old again.

Quite a few times I saw him train. One reason he and Animal rarely trained together on the same routine is that Animal was following more of a power/strength based training system. Meaning he incorporated a lot of "bodybuilding" exercises into his routine but with a powerlifter's mentality. Rude was strong, but preferred to do more volume and a moderate amount of weight so his reps were in the 10-12 range. Weird thing is that he never did anything for lower body. Other than 3-4 sets of light leg extensions of about 50 reps each followed by some cardio work. Never did a single squat or leg press or leg curl that I can remember. Not saying he didn't train lower body, but I just never saw it and it was weird because I would be at the gym at the same time they would be about twice a month and over a couple of years you would think I would have at least been there a day he did something for legs.
I will say that for chest he believed in very high inclines when doing presses. Almost to an upright position like you would use for shoulder presses. About 10 degrees short of that and his favorite finishing combo was dips supersetted with the pec dec.

RUDE had a good delt/upper chest lean tie in ..
Might be due to the high incline work he did. Or genetic. Or both.

What did these guys think about you staring at them?
Probably thinking "whew, glad he is normal and not like that RatedXXX schmoe who runs his fingers in our left over sweat when we get off a machine."

I once witnessed the Honky Tonk Man bench 750 pounds. He then curled 100 pound dumbbells in my face and squatted his pink Cadillac.
