...and now the "Bitstrips" app ~
Why is EVERYONE jumping on that bandwagon? Do people really think it's that funny?
Maybe I'm alone on this one. :P

I deleted my FB is 2010.
I have never looked back. Best decision ive made in a long time.
of course my deletion of FB coincided with putting a ring on a finger and having permanent in house pussy... so... yeah.

I hate FB.

It's pretty stupid but I've subscribed to a few political news sites and the daily 'like' session is a pain in the ass.
Every now and then it's nice to chat with some folks and great distance people. I also love how some people are portraying themselves on there - hilarious.

FB summed up in a sentence
2003 - worried people on the internet would find you in real life
2013 - worried people in real life would find you on the internet.

I love facebook, I get to watch people's lives turn into train wrecks and broadcasted publicly to the world. Meanwhile, I troll the shit out of it and get more "likes" than they could ever dream of, because of my coolness

I joined facebook in 2006 and set up a profile, in the hope that my father would notice me/wife/kids and recognise me as his son (at least make contact). Sadly, other avenues had been exhausted and it was a shot in the dark that didn't work out anyway.
All I ended up with, was a personal message on there from his wife telling me that he denies i'm his son.
2007 - left facebook.

Sad when is the last time you saw him.

FB is for queers. Most fucking annoying site in history. It is a sounding board for women to post every little shit thing that happens to them because in real life no one wants to listed to them talk.
-
Sad when is the last time you saw him.
He left when I was maybe 2 years old, but unfortunately he lives in the same town so we have accidentaly bumped into one another on a few occasions - which is very awkward as he denies flat out that I am his son.
Not trying to get sympathy here, it is what it is I suppose.
What makes is worse is the guy has an MBE from the Queen ffs, and is a VERY respected member of the community. His reputation relies on me being nice about things (if you know what I mean).
-
Did u get a paternity / DNA test done?
to prove your his son :-\

Understood my dad was well thought of in the town I lived in, but was a asshole at home. He died we never got to resolve any differences. He gave two motorcycles before he died a constant reminder of him ever day.

Sorry to hear that, I remember you posted about that a while back. A part of me knows I have to confront the guy face to face, while I still can.

Is this a true story ???

Everyone in the family knows I am (both sides) and I regularly see his parents/take my kids to see their great-grandparents, so it's not something I was ever interested in doing. The guy even signed my birth certificate, signed my baptism certificate 18 months later etc so there's no doubt in my mind.
However - I heard through family members about 1 year back, that his wife (who is a complete she-devil) spread a rumour that they contacted me several times for a DNA test but I wouldn't comply, simply to deflect the guilt etc onto me. When I heard that I went straight to his parents (as in, within 1 hour of reading that shit) and said to them "Do the test, get it arranged and i'll pay for costs etc"
Silence for a year since..........BOOM - someone is a lying bitch it seems ;D
FFS we look so much alike, if I sprayed my hair grey I could probably bang his wife without her realising ;D

I can't go into too many details, otherwise he might be pretty easy to identify - let's just say that there was no fault on my part or my mothers, he just walked out and washed his hands of us.
The plot thickens when you consider what he got an MBE for, and how hypocritical it is that he ignores/ababdoned his son. Trust me, if the truth came out - it would probably make national news, from the sheer hypocrisy alone.
Would be like David Beckham being exposed for stealing footballs from orphans so they couldn't play.

It sounds like he got an MBE for services to community/family etc. Life is full of such contradictions :(
Don't do anything vindictive man, I know this kind of hypocrisy is burning but it will only make things worse.

I wouldn't bro.
The instant I found out he has wife and children, I knew then that I would never approach it in a way that would hurt those guys.
Bottom line is that my dad was like 21 years old when he made the decision to leave, so there was some growing up to do and we ALL make mistakes. It's the way he's been since then, that merits no excuse. But again, like you said - nothing vindictave is on my cards at all.

I know you won't bro, you're a good person.
It could be your dad did the work that earned him the MBE as a way to cope with the situation. Maybe he carries massive guilt inside him.

the exact same attitude towards my father....he was a very young man when I was born. Iit doesn't excuse him abandoning me for my entire life, i would die before I left my child... But I can see why it would happen. I feel for you..know EXACTLY how you feel.
I'm thinking maybe there is a genetic link to superior muscularity and not having a father in your life

What are you, 80 years old?
I often get somethin like this, but the funny thing is that many of the 80 yr olds I know have a lot of tech gadgets, but they’re also retired and have made their money already.
I also get "HELLO!! It's 2013!!" Yep, I know the date.
Took me awhile to come to terms with it (and many…..MANY….will disagree with me), but smartphones, cable tv, video game systems, Ipads, Kindles, expensive cars, expensive clothing and all assorted tech gadgets are all luxury goods.
Keep in mind, I'm not anti-tech....I love gadgets and tech. Still, when considering smartphones, internet, cable, smartphone apps, Ipads apps, Ipod downloads, game rentals, gaming subscriptions most folks pay around $500-$800 a month and then wonder why they’re broke LOL.
IMHO, that's beyond excessive, but if it's completely within your financial ability then have at it.
For most people, it’s not even close to being within the scope of their financial ability…..it’s force fit into their budget as though it’s a necessity……LOL, it’s not.
I'm also completely aware how vital technology is to remain competitive in business, but my focus is about personal use.
Yes, some folks will say, “But my smartphone is all I have. It’s my phone, my computer, my tv, my stereo, etc….” Fine, you pay $140/month for all that, it’s completely affordable for you and your done. This is a small percentage of the population though……a tiny percentage.
My only point is that all our tech/gadgets used for personal stuff is non-necessity based. And of course, someone will say, “Says the guy posting this comment on the internet via his laptop.” Again, I’m not anti-tech, I’m against redefining luxury goods as necessities in a personal setting.
So many times I’ve watched people pay for groceries via WIC assistance while fiddling on their smartphones. Not long ago I watched one young mother attempt to pay for groceries via WIC. All the while her husband and daughter waited and each was fiddling on their own smartphone. In between breaks in conversation with the woman and clerk she would check her smartphone. What’s wrong here?

Props to Man of Steel for being a financially responsible citizen, who saves money on non-essential stuff so that he can pay for his own necessary stuff, thus not being a burden to society!

Very smart. A lot of people look at a lot of the technology today as being great but really a lot of it is not needed and does nothing to further mankind. If anything a lot of it has reversed evolution.
Look at Japan. There is an epidemic brewing of people NOT having sex. Something like 40 percent under 25 look at sex as gross. About 35% under 30 haven't had sex. They are more into electronics than they are with dick in vag.
Technology is just turning people brain dead. Take away the internet, cell phones and 50 inch TVs and guess what! People would be better off. The happiest times of my life is when none of this shit existed. For some reason I am now bitter, grumpier and not as happy because of this shit.

I know I've completely derailed this thread and I apologize for that, but it's bothers me LOL!
I see exactly what you're saying about kids in Japan. Essentially they're losing the ability to engage in audible conversation, enjoy human contact and have lost touch (no pun intended) with their sexuality. They're so deeply engaged in tech that the real world has become unusual.
While at church on Sunday our minister of music mentioned that they have a new rule of no smartphones at the dinner table. He and his wife put this "house rule" in place because while he and his family sat at the dinner one evening he noticed his children texting each other from across the table. He said after that "no smartphones at the table!!". A big majority of the congregation hooted and clapped in approval LOL, but I leaned over to my wife and whispered, "why not get rid of the smartphones altogether?" I understand the point that trying to be made, but the problem had even deeper roots that that...at least in IMHO.
I understand that the era of the payphone is almost gone and the era of the cell phone is here to stay. I don't have a problem with wireless phone tech. We want our family members and friends to be able to contact us and we want to be able to reach them. My wife and I each have a cell phone and we pay about $65/month. I even contest that bill every other month in attempt to bring the rates down cause I long for the days of our $8/month landline and $.70/gallon of gas and $.19/taco on Taco Bell Sundays LOL!! Unfortunately Sprint tells me that we have the lowest rates possible and because our phones are so dated and plan is so inexpensive it doens't even exist anymore LOL. I've been trying to convince my wife to opt for a couple of prepaid cell phones for about $40/month. She ain't havin it just yet LOL.

During that gov. shutdown the news was showing how some people had to go to foodbanks and wait in line for food. As they scanned the line a boat load of them were heads down browsing on their cells. It made me furious that I'm supposed to feel sorry for them that they can't eat but they can surf their $300 phone and pay $80 a month for it. Fuck for $80 you can buy 14 of the Costco Rotisserie chickens. That is enough to feed 4 people each day. I bet these people would cut food, clothes, gas etc... way before they even consider cutting their phone.

Would you cut your phone? My phone is my most important possession and not because of the extra goodies you can do on it. Remember you can also CALL people with it. If I lost my phone, I have no way of communicating with anyone unless I buy a new phone immediately or try to get in touch on facebook and pray they log in to see my message. Maybe they could have cheaper phones with less features, but a phone is essential

Good thread, I left Facebook in 2010 after I split with my wife and decided I didn't want my personal life exposed as a supposed train-wreck to all my work colleagues who were supposedly my "friends" on there. Last thing I needed was to draw attention to myself and wanting to withdraw was all part of the healing process. I don't even think I posted on Getbig for about six months during that time I was getting my life and my head back together. I haven't missed Facebook one little bit and have no desire to expose myself on there even now, even though I've got nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about. I'm a popular guy and have a small group of good quality friends in real life who've stuck with me through all the shit so I don't feel a great need to have pseudo friends or false popularity on the internet.
As for the smartphone side-thread - I do have one (Samsung Galaxy Note) and it's pretty good, but I bought it as a sim-free handset-only in cash from my savings and it'll be quite a few years before I replace it. Car is all paid for, and I'm now at a stage where I'm paying lump-sums off the mortgage to reduce the capital. Life is good.

Are you a doctor so in need of a phone all the time?

never had a FB page, never had a smartphone, no longer have cable tv, don't play video games, phone number isn't listed, drive an old truck that's fully paid for, my jeans cost $25 not $250 and I wanna move further away from the city.....gettin on board the Ron Swanson train LOL.
Amish mafia.

FB is for queers. Most fucking annoying site in history. It is a sounding board for women to post every little shit thing that happens to them because in real life no one wants to listed to them talk.
somewhat true, I think it makes them feel important/noticed at least for the insecure girls and to be honest a good majority of women are. Sad thing is they don't realize they are prey to duche bags on there and FB if full of those, of course they (the girls) fall for it
-
A lot of victims in this thread apparently had a gun to their head when they were forced to sign up for facebook :'(
-
i dont have facebook because i have no friends
and ernestly 99.999% of the people i meet i dont want to be friends with so it's just perfect
-
I can honestly see the value in FB. It isn't worthless, but at the same time it ain't fully worth it for me either. So many that cut the FB cord feel a huge weight lift (bb related).
It's funny but the addition of DVR tech to everyone's normal cable package seemed wonderful at first, but I became a slave of sorts to it....that's freakin ridiculous. Now that I'm free of it I'm much happier about it.
If only wifi was a bit cheaper.

I think there is probably more to the story than he and your mother have told you.
-
I don't have a facebook. Thinking about starting one up to keep in touch with family overseas. I always hear from my mom the latest happenings and drama she read on there. Lots of drama.

Why do people think facebook is the only way to keep in touch with others? Once you join you will enter the land of gimmicks galore. There are so many bots on that site it is gross.

The last sentence. Do it, it's Halloween, say that you coming as your father's doppelgänger.

Are you a doctor so in need of a phone all the time?
No, but I do have family that I would need to get in touch with in case of emergency. I also have friends, which is only made possible by keeping in touch with them via phone. Apparently, you have no friends so you don't need to worry about it.

I do but don't need a smartphone. I pay $10 a month for my phone and get a lot of use out of it. I have two Ipads at home, one is a gift and one is a prize I won and I barely use them. I don't have any pressing needs to be texting or calling people all the time.

It's pretty stupid but I've subscribed to a few political news sites and the daily 'like' session is a pain in the ass.
Every now and then it's nice to chat with some folks and great distance people. I also love how some people are portraying themselves on there - hilarious.
this on its own is quality entertainment.

Deleted mine last week. It has become so cringey, everyone trying to portray themselves as something special with great lives.

Are you sure bro? You will miss out on destitute single mothers posting inspirational quotes, alongside a selfie of their ass ;D

Well for me I have family that live in several different countries. It is easier for all of us to communicate through Facebook...especially with our personal lives e.g seeing pics of our kids and stuff.

His reputation relies on me being nice about things (if you know what I mean).
wow just wow. What about moving? its seriously weird both of you stay in the same town, on purpose?
-
Sorry to hear that, I remember you posted about that a while back. A part of me knows I have to confront the guy face to face, while I still can.
Yep, i confronted my own father who abandonned us when i was 6. Was tough, but i learned what he did wrong to not repeat it myself. He s ending his life lonely, sad, full or remorse, regrets, frustrations and he knows i figured exactly what he did wrong and why.
-
I wouldn't bro.
But again, like you said - nothing vindictave is on my cards at all.
eeer...there are mistakes and mistakes. Abandonning wife and kid isnt a mistake, it's a sin. You re comparing apples and oranges there. Also it's pretty hard to hate on someone who shares your genes, you have his blood in your veins, you maybe think alike on some matters... most of the time we dont hurt our parents cause we dont want to hurt ourselves, not because we want to be "nice".
-
the exact same attitude towards my father....he was a very young man when I was born. Iit doesn't excuse him abandoning me for my entire life, i would die before I left my child... But I can see why it would happen. I feel for you..know EXACTLY how you feel.
I'm thinking maybe there is a genetic link to superior muscularity and not having a father in your life
well well well, look at this. So i was right all along. You just reproduced what your own father did to you.

What’s wrong here?
there s shitty, programmed to fail, gadgets, and technological marvels, tools. Gameboy consoles, first model made in japan, are still working like many stuff produced in the 80s, and even 70,60,50s, cause at the time it was built to be tough and last long. Since then in order to sell more and more they have been building stuff that s programmed to fail. That's the problem. Im not against useful tools, im against useless gadgets you show off to get attention like a fucking kid, and im against stuff noone needs as long has he has common sense.
I own two cooey m60 bolt action rifles one made in the 40s and the other in the 50s. They still work just like new.
Nowadays they all have what it takes to build useful tools that could last long, but they willingly limit their lifespan, thats why i dont buy anything anymore. Also everything that has a battery -powertools etc- i skip, i get stuff with an electrical cable instead. Again it's just common sense, doing a little research before buying, and settling with older, stronger models who dont have the limitations and do the job just as good.

facebook is great for that. I have alot of cousins in finland and before facebook got so popular i had not seen or talked to them the last 15 years because my finnish skills suck.
But the biggest reason i have fb is for hooking up with chicks. Like this girl im talking to now and she is going to come over next week for a movie. 8 years ago i fucked her a cojple of times and we lost contact but i have always after that wanted to fuck her again cause she was so good and stunning to. Shes one of those that are a league above the rest
. 3months ago i found her on fb and we started to talk.. i have hooked up with allot of chicks thanks to facebook

The new 18+v lith ion industrial power tools are great.
Ive had great experiences with Milwaukee stuff.

Right on MoS. That is me as well except I can't give up the video games.
video games are like all games ever created by men; a way to escape to release your anger inner violence and frustration while learning how to survive cooperating with people sharing the same interests. That's the point of "games". All other animal species play games, games are meant to be a preparation for real fights later in life in all animal species. Also it teaches you hierarchy and giving/receiveing from others. Now there s the lonely virgin guy masturbating on mangas and playing video games all day long living in his single mom's basement, and people who just enjoy having some fun "virtually" killing each others in video games once in a while. It all depends of what you do with it, as usual. But "gaming", "playing" is perfectly normal and healthy if you dont abuse it. As i age i do other stuff -because i can do them cause i have a house- like home improvement, making furnitures, shooting targets , teaching my daughter how to survive adapt dominate etc, but if you live in an apartment cause you dont have the money for better or bigger, well you re stuck with releasing your frustration in video games or watching sport on tv-which i still do tho.
Being rich allows you to have more stuff to do, more addictions to fall for. Everything is addiction in life, some addictions are better than other tho. But we re all trying to find something to do instead of realizing how vain life is. It's the process of "sublimation" in scientific terms. Getting into the flow of something being taught or learning it yourself, so you dont focus on painful stuff and reflexions.

Ive had great experiences with Milwaukee stuff.
i got myself a circular 7" saw , looked for the best bang for the buck online and the milwaukee one seemed the best. Since then -5 months now- im not disapointed, with heavy duty saws i can cut thru studs, treated wood for the exterior, and with precision saws and guides im cutting thru plywoods etc for the furnitures. Mine is corded. Again rechargeable stuff is shit, you re going to pay a lot more in the end, it's not a good bang for the money if you really think long term. The day they come up with cleaner stuff that doesnt cost too much it will be a good deal, but we re still far from it.
