"Bombing, blitzing and terrorizing your calves" (or any muscle/group for that matter.

That the "champs" are "genetic marvels" when all they are (especially the last couple of decades worth) is stupid people too lazy to do anything but have sex with strange men for drug money and lift some weight.  Without their drugs, they are nothing. For proof look at Dillett and Prince.  For that matter look at Bill Pettis!  He doesn't even have a van down by the ocean but instead a park bench!  For the van part look at Charles Glass.

That supplements work.  Food works.  Good healthy food with rest and exercise works.  Drugs work and in doing so make the food, rest and exercise work all the better.  I remember guys that relied on supplements.  I pointed out the term itself indicates they were meant to supplement a healthy diet, not replace it.

That Joe Weider was heterosexual.  Please...Jerimiah Johnson's beard wasn't as thick as Betty Weider on Joe.

Having seen even my heroes at the original Gold's in Venice and knowing (because they told me) that drugs really work, I knew there was more.

Guys did nothing for work and yet had condos and corvettes.  I asked and found out from a few of them that they let old men "fondle" them for cash and gifts.  Hmmmmm...Is not a top champ now called, "The Gift"?   ::) ;D

So much of bodybuilding was and still is a farce.  A façade.  But in the seventies among themselves and even toward a relative newcomer such as myself, they were honest about it when asked.  It broke my naïve little world a bit, but it wasn't nearly as bad as learning my dad was Santa Claus.

Talk about a tough "present" on your 18th birthday.  I was devastated.

Some people are genetically better made to lift weights, bone structure/natural BF % but at the end of the day you can only do so much, some guys are naturally gifted and look great natty then use gear and dont look that much better on them.

-Drugs are the "finishing touch"

-Your diet has to be 110% clean

-Supplements other than Creatine and certain vitamins

I don't understand what some people are saying about genetics, that's a real thing. Some people look like shit no matter what they do.

1) You need to eat six meals per day.
2) Nutrient combining (eg, fats and protein or carbs and protein at meals only)
3) Carbs at night are bad.
4) Bodybuilders wrote their own articles.
5) Bulking up leads to quicker muscular gains.
6) Top pro bodybuilders and all gurus are loaded (eg, Shawn Ray standing in front of mansions in magazines, Flex Wheeler leaning on luxury cars, Trevor Smith boasting about his business when he didn't have much money)
7) Supplement claims of all sorts.
8) One can gain 20 or more pounds of muscle in a single season.
9) Ernie Taylor's triceps were all muscle.
10) I thought that Ronnie Coleman actually did regular police work with his 300 pound body that had to be fed every few hours and that couldn't wear a bullet proof vest.
11) I thought the claims that every other pro was  headed to the NFL until they got a career ending injury and then during rehab, fell in love with the weights, and from then decided to set their sights on becoming an IFBB pro. I heard this goddamn story over and over.
12) Different carbs had different effects on body composition, even when kept constant (eg, brown rice is "better" than white rice).

IFBB pros eat in excess of 6-8,000 calories daily...

Oh boy, where do I begin?

Anabolic Window
You have to eat a shitload of calories to be huge "this statement has created more fat permabulkers than anything else, way over simplified"
You can be as big as a pro bodybuilder without steroids, it just takes more time
Listen to your body/instinctive training
The key to great abs is lots of ab work
ANY OTC supplement with the possible exceptions of high quality protein powder, pre workout stimulants, creatine, and amino acids.
Steroids don't actually do anything, it's mostly mental and you train harder "Yes, if you remember the media briefly tried this tactic to try to stop steroid use"
The more you take, the more you will grow.  "Only true to a certain point"
Genetics don't matter, it's all about the training and supplements
You have to do squats, deadlifts, bench whatever to have huge "whatever muscle group"
Steroids are deadly, turn you into a madman and shrink your dick
Light weight will get you more "toned" while heavy weight will get you huge
Incline press focuses mainly on the upper chest

I can go on.

Meal timing

Gylcemic Index

A gram of Brotein per lb of bodyweight

DoggCrapp's dangerous bullshit about ''train heavy to get big''. I remember benching 365 for 8 and wondering why I didn't look as big as young Steven Cocklow did, I was doing the same weight as his youtube video and taking in my massive amount of True Protein. Maybe it was because I didn't do my Extreme Stretches and used the wrong ratio of casein to Ion Filtered Whey in my custom TP blend.

GH/t3/Igf/whatever 'gets you lean while eating pizzas and ice cream'

SubQ is DANGEROUS and bro u get absess if u dont injec in2 mussle and that gear is wasted!!

bullshit, lies, mistruths and other such things. oddly enough most of them are diet related w training coming a close second.

- the anabolic window. nuff said.

- you'll lose muscle if you fast

- you'll lose muscle if you do fasted cardio

- you need a calorie surplus to gain muscle

- some proteins are better than others.

- if you combine carbs and fats in the same meal you'll get fat. no, if you over eat you'll get fat.

- you can't train too much you'll over train.

- you need to eat every 2 hrs to stay 'anabolic'

- if you do too much cardio you'll lose tissue/ impair growth

- your CNS will fry if you train too much. lol

- you need 'clean calories' to lose weight /you need 'clean calories' to gain lean tissue / garbage cals = garbage body

- the bigger the deficit the more tissue you'll lose when dieting

- the 'studies and science' behind bbing

- 1600mgs a week of deca and eq will create the '80's look'

- bigger is better.

- you need 8 hrs sleep a night for optimal growth

- chicks don't like big guys

- you can't stay on tren year round.

- more anabolics = better body

- there are hyper responders. guys who can take miniscule amts and look amazing. however the majority of guys are floating in anabolics and gh.

- it's a healthy lifestyle and big guys are cool. hahaha fuck thats the biggest lie ever. fuck bbing is seedy and full of g4p and prostitution. full of insecure bozos w dysmorohias/ disorders who use anabolics and size to make up for what they lack in personality.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day

You have to eat every 2 to 3 hours otherwise you'll lose muscle

you have to cut out bread, diary and fruit

You have to cut out creatine and all shakes and ONLY eat whole food

You have to eat "clean"

You have to cut out coffee/caffiene

You have to cut down sodium

prolonged Keto dieting without weekly carb refeeds

Hell is for christians and the like.

Jesus said pick up a stone there I AM. God is everywhere and in everything, not just once visited to earth by Jesus two thousand years ago. The face of Christ is everywhere and in everything, the mountains, seas and forests, the animals and all the human faces you meet however distorted by suffering and ignorance.

The kingdom of god is within you, realize it through deep stillness and self surrender then you will know how Jesus felt inside himself.

Most BB myths have already been mentioned.
One other I used to believe is that muscle shape can be changed depending on the exercise performed.
I used to do standing bicep barbell curls for "mass" and concentration curls to help build that bicep "peak".

Way too many to list. Here are a few.

1. Bulking then getting ripped. I believed this for decades. I regret every minute of drinking gain weight shakes.

2. Supplements

3.Giving credit to steroid users when 6 months clean looked like they never worked out in their life.

4. Girls like steroid bodybuilders. Yes, some do but the majority of hot chicks will actual like a soccer guy physique. You just have to be in shape.

5. When I was young I thought bodybuilders could fight just because they did body part training.

6. I use to believe bodybuilders in the 70's and early 80's were paid to be bodybuilders. Then I learned many were being paid by gay guys. Some were paid so heavily they could afford to buy gyms.

7. The champs in the magazines always trained with heavy weights. Then from watching some champs and hearing first hand accounts that they actually trained fast with light to moderate weights.

8. This is a big one. All the champs that Jones, Darden and the rest of the HIT crowd said are the result of HIT training. They would take a volume champ like Sergio Oliva. Have him come to Florida for a couple of weeks and pay him heavily. Then claim him as a success. Oliva trained his whole career with volume prior to going to Florida and after. Viator trained for his greatest condition with 15 sets a body part in the 80's that was witnessed by David Young. Joe Means who was the poster boy for the Nautilus book trained with volume. Darden's big selling books were filled with picture after picture of volume trainers.

9. I still can't shake this one. Always trying to lift heavier weights during a training cycle.

10. You look good in clothes when you are a perma bulker. Maybe, but when you take off the shirt the little lean guy will make you look like crap.

11. There are secret techniques to be learned. There are no secrets.

2) Lift big to get big, train heavy all the time: I train heavy once a week these days. This doesn't include de-load weeks.

great thread idea.

- at the end of the day genetic response in terms of response to anabolics will determine your finished product in terms of your body. genetics is a huge advantage. HOWEVER. see next point.

- the harder you train the better you look, and you can create density. if you do get dealt a shit hand in the genetics dept i believe you can still build a fantastic physique w dedication, time in, and discipline.

- bbing can be a healthy pursuit if you chose it to be. or you can flood your body w chemicals and have it not work out so well.

- being 'big' gives you social advantages over those who do not train. if you handle yourself with class and talk to people with respect, you'd be surprised how much people will gravitate to you.

- it keeps you 'young'. when i see guys my age who dont train, they look broken down, tired, and unhealthy. those who dont usually engage in some form of strenuous physical activity.

- you dont need to mega dose to look great, or build a great physique. in fact a lot of times with just some time in and patience the low dose user will have a better more appealing physique at the end of the day than the boat loader. you pay for all those mgs as you get older. pre mature aging. pushing to far past genetic thresholds makes it harder to look 'good' after.

- you get out exactly what you put in. half ass your training, you'll get half assed results. the harder you push, the better you become.

Indeed I was!

There are a lot of Getbig members with valuable knowledge. It would be nice to have it collected in one thread.

I do come here for entertainment and am rarely disappointed but at the end of the day I am also here to learn whatever I can to improve my physique.

In the grand scheme it doesn't matter.

The primary audience that loves bb are homosexers.

Most women think brad Pitt is huge and he's more than enough.

There's a great chance heavily engaging in BB will take 30 yrs off your life.

If you want to enjoy BB remain ignorant about it and trust FLEX magazine.

ya I agree w the intensity and quality of training for sure. look at poor borat- sparky the guru clearly said he believes in doing as little as possible in the gym and it certainly shows in 'quality' of borats physique. the dildo pumped him w mgs he didn't need of the wrong anabolics, put him on a weak and lazy training routine and now everyone is asking 'where's the beef?'  lol there ain't no beef cause you gotta create the environment for the anabolics to truly manifest the desired result(s).

as for the quality of nutrition I believe in this too but I can't state I think to create muscle and to lose fat there are good carbs and bad carbs. I think they are all created equal. they have nothing to do with hypertrophy. they are strictly a fuel based nutrient. now do I believe some carbs burn better for performance? absolutely. but to lose fat or gain muscle the 'quality' of the carb is neither here nor there.

I put fats ahead of carbs and protein in the quality argument. I think some fats are better than others. I think all protein just like carbs will be used by your body the same regardless of quality.

Title: Re: Stupid bodybuilding shit you used to believe
Post by: The Grim Lifter on July 07, 2014, 05:02:47 PM

Here's a true one.

Natural bodybuilders are more insecure and hatful than Steroid using bodybuilders

Squats make your upper body grow.
You can get a "six pack" by doing sit-ups/ab work
You can retain some of the muscle/strength  you gained on steroids if you train hard after stopping the drugs.
Getting a good "pump" during a work-out means you are training effectively.
A pro bodybuilder who built his physique with drugs is more knowledgeable than a natural who built lots of muscle drug-free.
A bodybuilder/lifter needs more protein than the average Man.
This is comical.
You think you have learned something, but you are buying into very stupid claims.

Let me explain.

Squats do increase strength in the whole back, would you agree that the back is part of the upper body?
Because, it is, unless you are of the knuckle dragging species.

You can get a six pack by training abs, what muscles are trained when you train the abs?
Yes, the abs. Untrained abs will be smaller and less likely press through fat layers.
Thick abs will show even at higher body fat levels, compared to untrained abs.

You can retain a small bit.
Especially if you don't rely on drugs and only run moderate cycles. Ask around, i am not sure whether you have trained long enough or at all to know this.

Are you saying a training without a pump will be just as good as one with a pump?
Do you realize one big difference of natural to steroids user is the pump and all the associated benefits which come with it?

First, there is no natural with "lots" of muscle.
There is only people who lie and people who look "lot" of muscle when covered in 4 sweaters to the newcomers blind eyes ( like yours ).
The bigger guy obviously knows how he got there, it doesn't matter how he's done it, because the smaller guy cannot know, as he never "walked in the bigger guys shoes".

Even a marathon runner needs more protein than a non sporty person.
Weight lifters have higher protein requirements than non trainees, this is not up to negotiation, this has been scientifically proven and been peer reviewed over and over.
If you can prove otherwise, i suggest you go collect your nobel prize.

Are you a scientist?

Do you even lift?

That the "champs" are "genetic marvels" when all they are (especially the last couple of decades worth) is stupid people too lazy to do anything but have sex with strange men for drug money and lift some weight.  Without their drugs, they are nothing. For proof look at Dillett

That your DNA doesn't matter.
That supplements do matter.
That drug use could be overcome with hard work and time.
That any reasonable diet will work.

1) Train low reps, moderate reps, and high reps. Use all the energy systems. Not necessarily in each and every workout though.

2) Don`t train too long, 45 minutes to an hour is fine

3) Have a rep or two in you before ending most sets. Train hard, but don`t burn your body out.

4) Vary your exercises. Injury reduction, less joint pain.

5) No lifts behind the neck. Your shoulders will thank you.

6) No hack squats, bad for knees. Some people are not meant to squat, period. Test yourself with the bar and check your form.

7) Deload every 5th week, reduce volume and intensity for 2 weeks.

8) When you train correctly your appetite will rise, and your food will be used effectively. If you train wrong, your muscles will be flat regardless of nutrition.

9) Use intensity techniques sparingly. Sure stuff like supersets work, but too much of a good thing will throw you into reverse gear.

10) Work the forearms. It is the only thing fully showing most of the time

11) Beware of overhead lifts. If you do them keep the reps low, weight moderate and form perfect. Your back will thank you.

Matt Porter coached you yeah? I mind him posting this pic on facebook saying he had you on high carbs by mistake for a week and it made you look even better.

Yeah, at 2 weeks out I though Matt (via e mail) meant for me to stay on my "high day" macros for 7 days: MACRO TOTALS:  288p - 418c - 24f - It turned out to not really be a big a problem though as I was already ahead of schedule and 100% shredded already so just filled out a few kg's of glycogen/water, To get my weight down a week out Matt dropped me to  TOTALS: 421 55 29 ..had me do THREE (3) TWENTY (20) MINUTE INTERVAL SESSIONS spaced apart each day (INTENSE)  for (Sun, Mon, tues)
stopping Wednesday before the show. A case of mistaken communication, but in my case actually worked out for the best  8)

11) "I thought the claims that every other pro was  headed to the NFL until they got a career ending injury and then during rehab, fell in love with the weights, and from then decided to set their sights on becoming an IFBB pro. I heard this goddamn story over and over."

What position were all those 5'6" bodybuilders going to play ?
There is a former pro football player who apparently did get injured and now he is bodybuilder. There was a thread about him a few years ago.

care to get a little deeper here?

why would my muscle be flat regardless of nutrition?

what is too much of a good thing, and how will it throw me into a reverse gear?

milos' advocates (or did at one time) changing certain drugs every 3-5 weeks.

personally I like to save the tren for certain times.

If you train properly, cycling intensity, training all your body's energy system, de-loading, ect, you should have a strong healthy appetite. You eat well, and your muscles are full, and the energy lasts. If you train improperly, your appetite goes. Try to force the good nutrition in and you may notice more fat around the stomach increasing,  bigger shits, overall smoothness in the rest of the body. Your muscles will lack that pop. Observe guys doing a a shitty workout like superslow reps, heavy duty style, once every 5-7 days, heavy all the time, and you'll see that the body flattens out. When you are sick how well does your body take in food. Overstress has a similar effect.

Too much of a good thing can throw you in reverse gear if you are over trained, and super high intensity techniques can push you to that edge. Mind you, most people who claim to be over trained aren't over trained at all. They are training incorrectly.

And I still believe this, unless you have Frank McGrath-pythons. Weak forearms look pathetic.

Makes no sense to merge them.
