Post by: the trainer on August 04, 2014, 02:10:20 PM

TBH he's paid his membership the same as you, if he was squatting you would have to wait, so whats the difference?

The difference is you can take up a bar or a pair of dumbbells and curl anywhere in the gym but there is only one place that you can squat, its simple common sense.

No you would not, when you see a big hulking gym rat with a mean look on his face comes over to you and tell you in a deep voice to move cause he wants to squat, you move fast or I will move you.

I've done curls w straight bar since I was a kid in the rack. I take less than ten minutes max as I move fast. Old timers back in the day often used the rack for their bar. Wait your turn. Roll around on your bouncy ball n balance board while you wait.

A large immobile waddling bodybuilder holds no fear for me, I would have him gassed in 2 minutes.

It's a poseur thing.

Basically it says "I'm so strong I use leg equipment to train my arms"

Most gyms usually have multiple bench press racks they could also do this off - but basically it's all about the pose and the pose factor isn't there with the bench or the floor.

I think we have 2 preacher curl racks and fixed straight bar and cambered barbells that go all the way up to 100 pounds.

If both curl racks are taken up AND your are repping more than 100 pounds then by all means, curl away at the squat rack.

If you could just as easily be curling at a curl rack and are taking up the squat rack, it's a bit of an asshole move, plain and simple.

I was at the gym the other day and I was waiting for the squat rack and a guy was doing 10 sets of squats, I asked him to only do 3 as I was waiting, he wouldn't, selfish fuck, he should only be doing 3 and not taking up all that time.

As bioscience states the squat rack is called the squat rack because it's the only place you can do squats if it wasn't it would be called everywhere else in the gym.

Most people who go to gyms don't even know there's such a thing as leg training. Fifteen sets each for pecs, bi's and tris, then hit the showers.

Who the fuck cares, squat racks in public gyms suck anyway. I hate those "safety" pins. I always hit them with the weights accidentally. I have to be right in the fucking center because otherwise this shit will happen. If you do high bar squats you don't need that at all, you just drop the weight.
Title: Re: Get out of the squat rack
Post by: Neptune100 on August 04, 2014, 04:26:11 PM
The squat rack can be used for many things, squats, deads,rows...I routinely use them for Standing barbell press then upright row immediately afterwards...if you really want to get the rack from someone doing curls just bring a barbell over and ask them if you can work in with them...otherwise your cowardice reward is waiting until they are finished curling.  Personally if i am going to squat and they are curling I feel my lift supersedes theirs due to the purpose of the rack they are using but I won't be a dick and tell them to piss off even if they are a pimple popping teenager...once again though all you have to do is ask to work in. 90% of waiting for equipment issues can be avoided if people just ask to work in.

Deadlifts on squat racks? What the fuck is wrong with you people. Do deadlifts from blocks, rack is way too high. Weights get crazy high, you can use other exercises for development without putting so much stress on your body. Unles you're like 6'7'' that is, then I guess it could be fine.

Perform deadlifts from blocks always below your knee. Still an useless exercise for a bodybuilder though.

or you could just use a normal weight and do 10-15 reps

Rack pulls are fine if not done for ego. My back is a wreck so I don't pull from any lower than the bottom of the knees now.

I have yet to have anyone say a fucking word to me  ;).  if they did, I would tell them the same things I tell the bums on the train on my way to phoenix. "Shut the fuck up and get away from me."

Set the safety pins at the bottom and pull from there. Not every gym has blocks. Just to pin pulls.

If you want to be left alone to train however in the gym I would suggest making your muscles larger and increasing your strength a lot.    It's always worked for me.

I can honestly say it's been many years since anyone has even asked me if I'm done with something or how many sets I have left.

I said that deadlifts from blocks are useless. Bodybuilders look for maximum contraction and flexion so they should even perform deadlifts ON blocks not FROM blocks to extend the range of motion.

Coach I use huge "crossfit" plates as blocks.

I once owned a fat bitch over the leg extension she had her towel on the machine while she was chatting to another girl on the other of the gym, so I took off the towel and started using it, she came over saying hey I am using that,
I told her this is not your home gym dont put your towel if you are not working out, the gym is a place for people who are serious about getting in shape.

If they were serious about getting in shape they'd be nowhere near the leg extension.

Total Meathead mentality.

What's next, they need to get out of the squat rack if they don't squat enough weight? Don't go ass to the grass? Aren't in Beast Mode enough for you?

This.  and if I was on the leg extension machine, and you came at me correctly....I would gladly let you use it.

I laugh  at people that sit there and stew in the anger, and don't open their mouths and solve the problem.  do you think you're going to get into a fight or something ?   ::)
at the Mecca u almost never run in to that problem. Still one of the coolest gyms in the world most peeps have great attitudes. If someone's taking their good ol time u ask to work in. Rarely do I ever get a no. Remember where the other guy put the pin n replace it there. Be polite. A real man has muscles n manners. Children have bad attitudes n tantrums.

Yes it's best to display "mass with class" when doing battle in the gym.

I hang a hamak on the squat rack and take a nap.  After I wake up, I replace the hamak with an oven rack and some charcoal underneath and grill me some steaks.

I perform triceps kickbacks balancing on the lying leg curl machine.   Why?  Cause I can.  What's anybody gonna do about it?  Nothin.

I've one heard an anecdote about the Stahlwerk 31 underground gym in Germany, where David Hoffmann trains. You're only allowed to train there when you're able to squat, bench press & deadlift a certain weight.

I go to the gym and jog in place on the incline bench. I'm not exercising I'm just hoping someone will say something so I can start a fight because I feel the need the "prove" myself because I'm insecure.

I never ask to "work in" because I hate it and I figure everyone else does too.

I think of it as me punishing the people I am working in with cause they are taking too long and I just revel in  just how uncomfortable the situation is.  I don't hate it cause I always lift more than whoever I am working in with, which I'm sure makes them feel somewhat conscious of that fact. Its kind of saying without saying, "this is how you do it, now shut up, lift and move out"

The squat rack is not for doing curls or dumbbell press, I had to chase away a twink today why dont lifters get it that if you are not squatting say away from the squat rack.

I want to own a gym just so I kick people like that out. Also those that are too retarded to return the dumbbells in it's proper place or just simply
leave them in the middle of the gym floor when they're donne.

I often finish my tri workout finishing off my pump by pushing the front door to the gym opened n closed. I try to work up to sets of fifty. Sometimes n idiot will try to interupt me because they want in or out. I tell em to wait their turn. There's more than one use for a door and just because they have a membership doesn't mean they own the door. Clueless dumbshits.

I am not in total disagreement with that. A hardcore gym is meant to hardcore bodybuilders. Newbies can always choose other gyms to built some foundation.

It's might help to create a certain atmosphere, but they're always strong members with antisocial behaviour (talking loud, not re-racking the weights, etc).
It's different tho in a basement gym where I train every now and then, and I think the reason is more social control.

Only two straight bars in what kind of shit hole do you train man get to a real gym that is fully equipped, even if you have to drive for a bit to get there its worth it.

It`s actually an alright gym, except it`s on the small side, but they keep it clean & orderly, and it`s open 24/7. Our squat rack also has several chin up bars welded on it at different angles and it has a place to lock in the adjustable bench that came with it. It`s a "multi rack" so to speak.  SR, not just for squatting any more.....
