Fuck no, Serling was a genius. I love it, almost every major holiday they do it. I like the Hitler one from season 4. Most others from that season were not as good because they were an hour long. Good thread.

A couple 3 Stooges marathons too.   :)

Serling was great.  I liked Night Gallery too.

Amazing how many of his TZ ideas ended up inspiring movies over the years. So easy to pick out when you watch.

Oh, yeah. Created the original zombie, too, in his 'I Am Legend' novel (but he called them vampires).

My point being everything is borrowed to some degree. "Nothing new under the sun," this writer once said, forget his name. Probably just some other hack who stole all his shit, too.

My favorites are the howling man with the devil locked in the cell by the monks
The old man and his hunting dog who drowned and then the devil tries to trick him into hell
And the one where pj Braun refuses to give away samples to fans and is visited by the ghosts of Christmas greed and the ghost of centopani future who shows him how he destroyed Evans career and got his house foreclosed because he got evan blacklisted in the industry

My three favorite episodes of Outer Limits":

the one where there was a plot to assassinate the vice president of the U.S. and there was a Chinese spy who could mold his face to look like him

an episode with William Shatner where he plays an astronaut who comes back from Venus and is always cold all the time no matter what

There was another weird episode where a bride groom disappears on his wedding night and is trapped in a box for many many years and his bride, who has aged over the years, tries to get him out by substituting someone else

I got a fave: Dennis Weaver is imprisoned on Death Row, soon to be executed. But he KNOWS it's all just a dream. However, he's certain that if the execution proceeds, he will never wake up. Can't remember exactly, but I think he either needs his wife to clear him or for her to believe and then convince the others (warden, etc.) that they're just part of his dream so they don't follow through. Amazing, but creepy as hell.

Traumatic mindfuckery for a youngster.

Actually he took ideas from short stories and works of fiction first.

Any examples?

I know he used an old Ambrose Bierce-based film, "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," as an episode, but Serling never took credit. The episode later inspired 1990's Jacob's Ladder, both perfectly eerie films.

Which others?

Agreed. Ever get a chance, watch "Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," a short, artsy B&W psyche-job. Very well made. Maybe on YouTube, not sure. You'll understand how it inspired JL right when it ends.

one i never like where the little girl goes into a portal through her wall ,,and her parents are under the bed looking for her and around until the father goes into the wall,,boring...

one today earlier,, older actress can't accept older age and younger films ,locks herself into room and watches old films over and ove r,,in the end she wishes all he costars 'men'and her were together agian like the old days,,she then gets put into final reel in her home and her agent/friend sees her one last time on film as she vanishes off with them..

classic is the book/theater critic real prick older guy with hot young wife,,he buys a magical/possessed piano that when you put in a particular song it brings out you own demons/insecurities...

burgess mederith gets  super strenght from aliens and then super smarts from another set aliens later on after he is ridiculed in local bar by none other than 'don rickles'

Holy shit! Lot's of Twilight Zone fans on here! Decent!!! I grew up with the TZ marathons and it really shaped my taste for movies later in life. There are so many good epsiodes and the writing is so good I would be typing here forever if I went on about every favorite episode of mine. But my all time favorite is probably still "The Dummy", everything about it is perfect, the cinematography and angles, the way it;s written, the lighting...etc. "maybe you're the one who need glasses..."

I've seen that episode a few times...can you imagine that?...just looping the same dream over and over again for eternity????....CRAZY CONCEPT...Rod Serling was definitely a genius....The funny thing is he died very young....cancer I think.....and he died unhappy.....he was ostracized from the TV business.......I think he was making a big stink about how the quality of TV was going downhill due to poor writing and TV catering to idiots instead of having strong dramas and intelligent writing like he used to do......

and Rod's "Planet of the Apes" movie was awesome.....only a genius like him could come up with that amazing twist ending which not only shocked the hell out of you but made you think about where we as mankind are heading..........toward self-destruction

One Step Beyond was scary..my favorite episode was when during the civil war, a would be bride played by a youn g beautiful Elizabeth Montgomery find sout that her Fiancee was sent to the front and was missing/presumed dead.....he then walks into a party where shes at wearing his full uniform and they share a dance and kiss...obviously shes shocked to see him and happy hes alive..he then leaves, saying he has to get back....and after he leaves she receives word that hes actually dead...which means she was dancing with his ghost!
