Got put in 5 minutes before the end of the first half, didn't start. He's much faster than he was previously and not made any mistakes or got any penalties....actually playing better than I expected. Still looks like he needs to adapt to Canada football. Being a little too cautious on the field but he's under a great deal of pressure to succeed.

He should have kept his mouth shut and he might be on an nfl squad.

He's been out since he was 16 in high school. Would not have made a difference. He is at least cashing in on his fame

Like Tebow?
-
the guy is gay
so what
time to stop giving a shit about that and start caring whether he can play at that level or not....just like anyone else
other than that who gives a rats ass

no
doesnt matter, he isn't into black dudes or boobs so your out:)

He was cautious the first half but the second half he was much more aggressive and was pushing lineman out of the way and laid a decent hit on the quarterback. They changed the lineup and just kept him out there for the rest of the game. Pretty clear that he belongs in pro football
-
no
Why not? Tall, dark, handsome, and probably hung!

Because Sam isn't into ugly flaming queens.

Not in the NFL. Not talented enough.

Playing in the CFL isn't exactly cashing in.
-
Like Tebow?
tebow may have finally learned to throw. in which case he'll be a fine NFL QB.
if you honestly believe before this year - he could read a complex defense and hit an open man consistently at 30 yards lol...
-
Playing in the CFL isn't exactly cashing in.
LOL! No kidding... But still good pay to stay conditioned and doing what you love.
-

If he did it once...
-
If he did it once...
Yes, he did it once. But the name of the game in the NFL isn't "make good reads and passes SOME of the time".
Tenow was horribly inconsistent. Tebow missed open receivers all of the time. And once Belicheat showed how to defeat him - confuse and crowd the line, push him back ten yards and force him to throw into 1-on-1 coverage, the NFL has been able to defeat tebow soundly (yes, even in practice) consistently.
ONce the NFL learned his gimmick, and once he lost a little speed from the hits, Tebow became a solid 3rd string QB - and then he threw a hissy fit when an actual passing QB like the alabama kid was started over him in NYJ.
They say Tebow can throw this year, and I hope so, cause i LOVE watching him play. But really, using ONE PLAY to show us why he shuld be a starting QB, one of the 32 elite in the world?
Which of the starting 32, right now, can tebow throw better than? NONE.
-
His 100K salary is hardly cashing in, but I hope he does well at least...
At least he's getting 2x the league rookie minimum..
-

Lol! No way. He was passed over by teams passed 248 times for a reason other than him being gay. He was given a shot by the Rams and Cowboys and didn't make it happen. He didn't even record a tackle yesterday. Pretty clear that he doesnt even belong in Candian football
-

Canada Football is not easier than US Football....you have just as much talent, receivers can run before the play making it more difficult to score sacks, and there's only 3 downs. Michael Sam wanted to play football and he's doing what it takes to play....even going to Canada. Can't hate on that
-

I didn't hate on that. Just saying he's not nfl caliber. Looked like shit in the "highlights"
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/13398190/michael-sam-makes-cfl-debut-montreal-alouettes
And Canadian football is easier simply based on the level of competition. It's not like there all a bunch of nfl caliber warren moons and Cam Wakes out there who are playing in Canada over the nfl. Sam's job is to rush the passer and defend the run. There's no damn difference between the nfl and Canada with that position

It's a long long way from the Montreal Alloeuttes to the NFL
This crybaby homo will never play in the big leagues

There's nothing impossible when you have steroids. CFL drug testing is almost null and there's plenty of sources. He can play for 2 years, spike up during that time and come right back to the states. With his CFL salary, he can certainly afford it. At least he's doing shit rather than waiting around like other folks

He's getting 100k from the CFL but he's quickly piling up a ton of endorsements from companies along with other ones from the GLBT community. He's getting paid good.

Tebow is on an NFL squad and he started for a few games and has a playoff victory.
Certainly the comparison is not accurate.

He's getting paid a little less than an nfl practice squad player. Big whoop. Of course he's doing everything he can to make a career after his 2 year stint in football. Guy isn't even worth talking about. Had a shitty game. This thread shouldn't even exist. 100k Canadian is roughly 500 American dollars and that's before taxes. God bless

Athletes make the most money on endorsements....not salary. That's why Jordan is a billionaire. Michael Sam has lots of money coming in because of endorsements. It doesn't matter if he's in Canada or even Australia.....as long as he's playing, the sponsors will cum to him with bags of money

We have a Seinfeld "trivial pursuit" reference!

I still don't think Sam got a proper chance in the NFL. He seems like the type of guy who shows up on gameday, rather than a practice all-pro.
I just can't fathom how people say that a former SEC (widely accepted as the best conference) defensive player of the year, was/is not good enough, when they never gave him a shot in a regular season game.
I think he should have been able to make a roster as a backup DE or LB, and been given some playing time. Can't properly evaluate talent if they never get a chance in game situations.
Him being gay has more to it than people will publicly admit.
-

I'm sure that some of the players had a serious problem with it
-
I personally think Sam is good and will get picked up the NFL within a couple of years. Just needs to add size but has a great work ethic. It's going to take time. But people want to watch football and not the side shows...meaning the other reason why I don't think anyone kept him was the focus was on "the agenda" and not football. Seriously, you've got cameras and news crews following around a rookie because he's gay? I couldn't give a shit whether he was gay or not as long as he can play football. But as usual the media made into something other than football.....on the fucking football field.

Too small to play DE, too slow for LB, not much against the run, and really not a very good edge rusher.
6-2" and 260 and struggled to run 4.9 with a 25-inch vertical and 8 second cone drill. Those numbers don't cut it against the type of athlete in the NFL. Even if he is high energy with a good motor, pro guards and tackles will maul him.
He had 9 sacks in 3 years at Mizzou, then 11 his Senior year. I'd like to see him get at least one chance, but guys who know football say he just isn't at that level.
-

I give you Rob Ninkovich (DE, Patriots). The ultimate "motor guy" not a great athlete by any means, but just has a nose for the football and always hustles. If a guy like Rob can turn into a good starter, then I feel that Sam could do the same, if given a fair shot.
Ninkovich is also 6'2 and clocked a 4.91 40 time ;)
-
I don't believe any coach or owner or GM will not sign a guy they think can help them win.
Football and most sports are about the bottom line.
If you can do it, you get to... end of story.

Two NFL teams gave him a shot and he just wasn't at that level.
In other words....your 3-4 defense becomes a 3-3 with that guy on the field and that doesn't work in the NFL
-

I just find it Ludacris that an SEC defensive player of the year can't even make it as a backup on someone's defense.
Didn't he get a couple sacks and a decent amount of tackles, in what little preseason action he had?

This will kill me....but I agree. Should have kept him on at least the practice squad.

Shizzo....I'm not really familiar with RN's pro career, but he's a Chicago area kid isn't he?
My guesses:
More explosive athlete than Sam?
Maybe a second skill like special teams?
Plays DE across from Chandler Jones (?) and that helps?
The NFL just doesn't seem to think Sam has what it takes
-

Sam needed to find the right situation. The Rams were loaded at DE and only drafted him as a kind gesture to a Missouri college star.
Jerry Jones only picked him up for the publicity, and didn't even give him an opportunity on the field, in a real game situation.
I think he would be a perfect fit for teams like the Eagles or Patriots. Franchises that ask for everyone to buy into the system, and where most players are cogs out to serve for the greater good of the team.

Bust's happen all the time in Football. The homo was smoke and mirrors. He blows. He'll never play in the NFL...Kids are getting better and better at the High School, college level. Way too much talent out there for this attention whore to even get another look. Going to the Cfl is the kiss of death. Now he's gonna have a lot of tape against scrubs.
-
Bust's happen all the time in Football. The homo was smoke and mirrors. He blows.
Yes, but 99% of the busts were able to get a chance to "bust" on the field.
By all accounts, the scouting report on Sam is spot on: Not the best athlete, not the best practice player, but shows up to play on game day.
We all saw the proof of that his senior year at Missouri. He was a beast against some of the best teams in CFB. Missouri wouldn't have made it to the SEC championship game in 2013, without Sam.
-
http://www.ottawasun.com/2015/08/08/sams-100k-salary-raises-eyebrows
Michael Sam's $100k salary raises eyebrows
It's a $100,000 question, one that apparently has some of Michael Sam's teammates steaming mad.
It would have been wonderful if the Sam chatter had ended after he finally made his CFL debut Friday night in Ottawa.
It would have been great for the Montreal Alouettes if Sam, a 6-foot-2, 260-lb. defensive lineman, had done something in the 12 plays he was on the field against the RedBlacks. Sam did zilch. Zero. Nada. Despite that, the TV cameras zoomed in. It was historic, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Sam walked out on the team during training camp (for "personal reasons," he said), returning two weeks later. But what is bothering his teammates is that he's been drawing a full salary -- $100,000 -- even when he hasn't been in the lineup. So while he wasn't playing, the Alouettes should have placed him on the practice squad, but instead kept him on the 46-man active roster, ensuring a full payday.
-
Jordan is a billionaire because he owns a sports franchise you fucking moop.
He wouldn't have a franchise much less anything it if it wasn't for Nike, you fucking dimwit. In fact, its still his bread and butter.
-

Agreed, but its good for business. More people are tuning in to ESPN who normally wouldn't watch CFL football just to see the first openly gay football player. That equates into advertising revenue.
At the end of the day, its a business. Michael Sam is playing football and making money. He got 3 sacks in the preseason and wasn't good enough to even be in the practice team??? There are far worse players playing in the NFL and at the very least, he isn't beating up women and getting locked up.
-
Many of the elite Canadian CFL'ers rigorously enhance their mental toughness in the offseason by working 10 hour days with no weekends selling used cars. You simply don't have that level of commitment and work ethic stateside.
-
Michael Sam is nothing more than a side show, who will wash out and thankfully soon be forgotten. It's not about having talent or football, it's about exploiting his lifestyle, which is not what football fans tune in for.
-
He wouldn't have a franchise much less anything it if it wasn't for Nike, you fucking dimwit. In fact, its still his bread and butter.
Michael Jordan would have nothing without Nike?
So you're saying his basketball salary and other endorsements would be $0.00 without Nike? You're saying another shoe or athletic company wouldnt have signed him?
With Nike he would be worth $200-$300 million. As owner of an NBA franchise he is a billionaire.
Jesus fuck you're stupid. A fat, lazy, dumb, broke homo that isn't worth $100 talking about how billionaires amass their fortunes.
-
But as usual the media made into something other than football.....on the fucking football field.
lol, blaming the MEDIA?
Sam announced what the scouts already knew. Sam brought along a reality show to the NFL.
Sam wanted to be a media star, and yes, the media gave him what he asked for. You don't secretly sign a deal for a reality TV show because you just want to play football. He wanted to be a media star, which is smart/good for him longterm$... but IMO it's not right to blame the media. SAM WANTED THE MEDIA SPOTLIGHT.
There have been quite a few openly gay NFL players. It's readily admitted, it's well known. But they didn't ask for a reality show:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/27/troy-vincent-gay-teammates-nfl-locker-room_n_5043125.html
They just show up and play ball, they love who they love, and it's a non-issue. The media didn't punish, bother, hound them over it, they knew and left it alone. Sam did everything he could to stay in spotlight.
I think sam will return to the NFL once he focuses on football and stops trying to be a star in media. ya gotta get the pro game down first.
-
...SAM WANTED THE MEDIA SPOTLIGHT...
Was just talking about this at a party last week... Sam and his beau, Vito Cammisano, killed his NFL career with their kiss. And the worst part is there was no reason for it. For most guys who get drafted, the good news is a relatively private moment. If there are cameras there at all, pics are being taken by family and friends and the public never sees those photo. These two wanted the world to see the moment and their kiss. They were politically tone deaf and they paid a price for it. Coming out was fine, but he should have left it at that... the football public was not ready for the in-your-face PDA. Obviously it was an emotional moment, but they had lots of time to think about how they wanted to handle it. They made a choice. Newsflash: choices have consequences.
Part of being a successful activist, pioneer, or trailblazer means deftly gauging your environment. They blew it big time. It was career suicide by media but it was all self inflicted. :'(

No his career suicide is that he sucks.
If the stupid gay barriers in pro sports is going to come down, it is going to take a great player to do so. Sam isn't even ok. He set gay athletes back 10 years.
I bet that little queen he was with force him to come out too. Little twink left his ass not even 2 years later.
-

He couldn't find time in the Dallas d-line rotation..... it was a very mediocre group last year.
Obviously guy has talent, but so do 100s of guys that don't get invited to the combine and training camps, as do all the guys who don't make the final roster. Sometimes you've got to stick it out and develop the skills needed.
Jason White won a Heisman, but never made a pro team. Chris Leak was a four year starter with a national championship and was not a pro. Tebow won both and a NFL playoff game and was out of the league in a year.
If Ray Rice had Adrian Peterson's talent and skills he'd be starting in the NFL, but he doesn't so he's not worth the headache.
If your talent equals production you get a spot.

This.
He isn't Jackie Robinson, an elite talent with an incredible focus, thick skin and determination.
He's a fringe player who left his CFL training camp for "personal reasons" where initially the gm wasn't 100% sure he was coming back.
Media Star with public access ability.

He was already picked next to last in the draft before that kiss ever happened so I don't think it made any difference at that point. I think it send it great statement with the first kiss however that second cake kiss shit was embarrassing to say the least and was akin to curb stomping the opposition
In any event, he's still in a better position than others at his level.

You know, back in 2003 on Getbig there was a similar debate on the Season 2 Tough Enough runner-ups. Everyone said that Kenny was too small and I stated that he just needed a few years of steroids. All the people in the show including the winners are long gone......and Kenny...
Well
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenny_King_%28wrestler%29
Nothing is impossible with steroids. Michael Sam needs to get more than a dick in his ass....spike up and jab that son bitch in those cheeeks and keep doing it until he looks like Romanaski.
-
Sam is too small for defensive end and neither fast nor agile (ability to control speed, steer/brake) enough at the moment, to succeed in the NFL.
Steroids won't make him taller and they aren't going to help too much with agility. He will get faster, he will explode more off the line, he will get stronger. But he'll be short, thick, heavy and trying to play outside linebacker?
I think if he's smart - he realizes he has a small % chance of ever getting back into the league, and a big % chance off making a good living being a spokesman. Keep playing Canadian ball, endorse everything you can, give speeches, and inspire people. But IMO, he should avoid putting all his eggs into the "take all the gear I can in order to be an NFL backup". He's a tweener, physically - too short, too slow, too weak, not agile enough. He can fix 2 of these, but you need 3 to make it in NFL.
-
You know, back in 2003 on Getbig there was a similar debate on the Season 2 Tough Enough runner-ups.
Vince............
What does a dude who never even made the cut in the Fed have to do with Micheal Sam, who WAS an NFL player. If Sam focuses on football and develops he may turn into a player, everyone thought Cameron Wake was to small and slow, he proved otherwise.
Aaron Maybin was a talent similar to Wake and he was a first round bust. There are many factors, hopefully Sam becomes the best he can be, but don't compare him to an indy talent who won't ever get a shot in the WWE.

He's actually turned down all the WWE offers because he gets paid more as a Chippendales dancer in Vegas. Being an indy wrestler allows him the flexability. Truth being told, he would have only only about 30k a year as a WWE wrestler. The majority don't make as much as most people think

The bottom end is 50K, average around 80K, biggest stars make big money.

Yep, and a Chippendales dancer makes about 120k a year without having to risk injury along with obvious tips. BOOM!!!!
This is him up top. He was skinny on tough enough but with a light regimen......good size and maintainable look without damage to kidneys and liver

ESFitness second from right doing well for himself.

Keep us apprised with the blow by blow.

Must've tweaked it during those 15 plays. The guy sucks literally and figuratively.
-
Sam is probably just not good enough to play in the nfl. I don't watch or care about football but I know there's an endless list of guys who were great but never made it. Stop making his homosexuality an issue.
-
No his career suicide is that he sucks cock.
If the stupid gay barriers in pro sports is going to come down, it is going to take a great player to do so. Sam isn't even ok. He set gay athletes back 10 years.
I bet that little queen he was with force him to come out too. Little twink left his ass not even 2 years later.
fixed

My best friend is trying to make the San Diego Chargers roster. He's an o-lineman. Michael Huey.
He's the one who got dominated by ndamukong suh in the 2009 Big 12 Championship game.
Like utterly destroyed. His confidence took a big hit after that game. Bounced around a few practice squads and arena league.
Watch for him tonight when the Chargers play the Cowboys.

No one cared that Greg Louganis was gay. He won olympic medals with a fucking teddy bear and a head patch.
Fucking A, Louganis has god damn aids and everyone just says that diver that won a fuck ton of gold medals between 78 and 88.
Sam is just not that good.
As has been said numerous times. Coaches and owners want to win. Period. They don't give a fuck if you're gay or not.
It's all about the bottom line.

I would bet that a handful of these billionaire owners like the cock themselves. Jim Irsay gives off a big gay vibe, same as Arthur Blanks. I saw a survey and the richer the person, the kinkier they liked their sex.

No doubt that there is at least one or two owners that would be happy to lick on some penis.

Michael Sam probably had a couple "private workouts" before the draft and was forced to sign an NDA before hand.
-
Sam is just not that good.
Tebow either. But their supporters claim it's beccause of off-field stuff.
It's the NFL - you can punch your wife, drown dogs, drive drunk, and your ass will be playing ball. IF you can play. Sam can't even stay healthy in canada ball, where a true NFL star would be wrecking shit.
-
Well, unfortunately that's it for Michael Sam.
The last 12 months have been very difficult for me to the point where I became concerned with my own mental health. Because of this I am going to step away from the game at this time. I thank the Alouettes for this opportunity and hope to be back on the field some day soon. Thank you all for your understanding and support.
Regardless of the statement, I'm pretty sure he's done with football permanently.
And now a word from Bill Romanowski
-
What was he making, $100k? I'm sorry, not trying to brag, but you can make that in any sales job if you're worth a shit, and you don't have to beat your head into the ground to make it.
-
he doesnt make it in the NFL and gets a GIFT handed to him to come play in the CFL. Upon coming here he leaves the team without permission...then comes back. Finally plays in his first game with not so great reviews and then all of a sudden cant play this week cause he injured his back. Now this.
Just admit your not good enough for pro football and call it a day. Fuk off with the 10 excuses
-
I think he was getting beat on the field, and he realized it was better to blame mental anguish, than to get CUT and be the dude who wasn't good enough for canadian football.
at least now, he can tell the story of the stress he felt. He played in one game, he was the first openly gay pro player to do that.
I'm sure he'll get a TV show, be a guest on cable news, write a book, etc. Better to be the man that walked away, than the man cut.
-
First openly gay football player not to make the NFL
-
Well, unfortunately that's it for Michael Sam.

Just another unemployed black p0lesmoker...not enough of them on GetBig already. ::)

That's from the LBGT handbook.

Sigh....and now a word from Andrew Dice Clay

Goodrum must be cut up over this. He clearly 'identified' with whoever the fuck this guy was. Especially now that he's another gay failure.

You use a clip from a gay basher to prove that you, a gay black man are right?
Vince.
You know I like you.
Just admit that a person who indentifies as a woman is not gay if they like men.
You know this is true.

This one does like men. The Andrew Dice Clay clip posting was just an example of me using .....irony ;D
