Most I ever tried was 4 plates plus a 25 a side. Thought I was going to die. I believe if my math is correct that it's 455. I know some jackasses that put 5 plates a side on a hammer strength and claim a 500 bench not realizing you don't add 45 for a bar that's not there and it's not the same. I could do 6 plates a side on a hammer but no fucking way could I lift the same weight on a barbell flat bench.

BigBadWolfe (Mike Wolfe) and liquid_c (Ryan Dewitt) are probably the two strongest benchers here. A few others have benched in around 500lbs like OTH and Adrain.

Yes at 26 years old,weighing 265-270 on 400 mgs of eq and 500 mgs of duratest a week i hit 500 did it again a few times but i would not do it again given the chance.not that hard to believe.I had been lifting for 12 years at that point and been juicing for 5 years.people who think this is impossible are pretty amusing,hard training and eating like a beast will get u results.I did 405 for 6 or 7 natural at 260-270 a few years ago.Now i dont even bench and i just benched last week and got 195 for 25 not going any higher due to shoulder problems.if you look at the pic of me floating around here you can see how big my tris are and im a tri bencher.I know im a fat weak pathetic bitch.

It was also a gym bench,no pause as i could never do that.Br lucky to get 300 for one now.no shirt,no wraps,no lift,no belt and no spot the way i always benched.i only attempted something when i was ready to do it.

405 is an awesome bench and to be honest i remember the day i got 405 much clearer than 500 as 405 just looked and sounded so awesome and i was 23.the first time i did 405 i got 2 so that was even better.you dont see many people benching 315 never mind 405.

There was 3 of us in the area that hit 500 around the same time.I was 26,kid named jonah was 24 and craig viera who was 29 i believe.All juiced all hit 500 within a month of eachother.Jonah was 250 craig 275-285 and me 260-270.Great times 12 years ago,joints still good,feeling good and loving life.

I train arms like crazy,shoulder is fucked so i only train chest every other week now and usually just with pushups benching is new to me as its been a while.and i did 195 for 25 so i assume i can do a little over 300 but jot gonna try it.

300lbs touch and go is my current best, I'll never load more than 315 on the bar for bench in my whole life my end goal is just to be able to use 315 for 5-8 reps. That will be the absolute natural limit for me without becoming a fat fuck.
All these bench presses figures don't impress me unless you perform the bench press with defined glutes and abs. Anyone can stuff their face to a big bench press.

I can hit over four plates any time I walk into a gym.
I am struggling to reach the mid-400s. Really struggling.
All my stated achievements are with a full, legal pause on my chest. In fact, almost all my working sets in pressing are done with full, controlled pauses.
(With any amount of real gear I am quite certain I'd press well over five within months.)

I could never bench 500lbs, with any amount of drugs or training. Arms like a chimpanzee, I hyperextend shoulders with full ROM bench press; missed my chance in early 20s to go over 4 plates, 31 now and shoulders already a total mess so forget about it >:(
You should be able to multiply weight by range of motion - would help primates like myself.

I always wonder what if when it comes to time and gear amounts. I competed off and on from 19-24 but back then there was not much guidance regarding gear. Other priorities took precedence so I stopped competing and gave away the D-bol. I was also frustrated by my technical misses in my last contest.

No doubt and any injuries I deal with now were from football and a bad mountain bike crash. Also always competed in the lighter weight classes and stayed lean. I can't imagine my joints if I had continued with the crazy weights! Spotted a buddy one time that weighed over 270 and completely tore his pec with 525. Another friend tore his bicep in a contest dead lifting 700.

My best was 300 at 150 pounds bodyweight...........not hing spectacular but I like to tell people that I benched double bodyweight,it sounds much more impressive. :D

Not too many, indeed. Did it myself (paused, as a junior, drug free), but that seemed to be rare. Then again I have been blown away in bench meets by a 600-Lb raw bencher, so I never felt I was hot shit for benching 405.

At the moment my heaviest set on flat bench is 300 pounds. I only get 6 reps with a spot on the last two or three but it feels heavy enough and I am making progress. This will be followed by three sets of dips to failure and I am outta there.

Lots of guys underestimating the strength it takes to even bench 405 none the less 500. a 315 bodybuilding style bench press with a controlled negative is impressive bench to me. You guys claiming you benched 405 are probably arching your back and having a guy hold onto the bar or just have alligator arms.
For the record Ive standing military pressed 275, and dumbbell shoulder pressed the 120's for 10 reps, with a raw bench of only 405. Rob 12 years ago you think you were military pressing 3 wheels? Because you'll never find a guy with a true 500 lb raw bench not capable of doing so. Walter is legit I just find it funny how guys on getbig were stronger than a prime kevin levrone and don't have a video to back it. Man if i benched 500 I'd get that shit on video!
Look at old videos of kevin and ronnie these guys were not having an easy time benching 5 wheels a side….3-4 reps touch and go. Paused both of these guys would be at around 500

lol yes because every guy that jumps on steroids increases their bench by 100 pounds in one cycle. ::) There is no way a guy is going to take his bench from 400 to 500 with gear if he's already been training for powerlifting. . Had you been training with high reps pump style bodybuilding training your whole life, immediately switched to pure powerlifting training I would say yeah you might get to 500 in a few years. And that's if you have a great response to steroids...….Look at the studies done on steroids on every day people with no previous strength training, I don't even think they don't get 30% increases in strength. A guy training for decades might improve by 5%. Unless I misunderstood and you have benched 500 in the past on gear, if so my apologies ;)

yes i militaried 315 back when i pressed 500.I spent most my time benching,narrow grip benching,military pressing,dipping,curling and bb rowing.doing those so heavy had a big impact on my bad lower back so yes i was a strong military presser.Ive never videotaped anything as it doesnt mean much to me to tape stuff.I was known at many gyms around mass for my strengtg and size and that was pretty cool no need to video.If you doubt me that is fine as it was back in the day and i cant do it any more so im not a 500 lb bencher anymore.

Every back will be arched when on a flat bench. Most larger men won't have the flexibility of a 16-y.o. russian girl (i.e. Naumova), so it doesn't really matter all that much.

Strentgh runs in my family,my did hit 500 on 15 mgs of dbol a day back in 1980 at 250.My grandfather hit 450 no juice at 5'10 240.some people are stringer than others,dont know what to tell you but honsetly that 500 bench doesnt mean shit to me now so hardly anything i brag about.I mention it here on this forum as that is something talked about other than that its pretty far from my mind most of the time.a guy came thru milford golds about 15 years ago and he did 585 and was noone in the strength world just a real strong guy,they are out there.Just as in anything else some of the toughest,strongest etc... Will never be known or heard of,doesnt mean they dont exist.

My family is known for being big and strong.When i lifted for strength and size it is all i did and thought about.i dont really care to argue anout this so think what you will,no sweat off my balls.I saw a 15 yo 5 years ago bench 335 at 5'7 190 natural,i know a 20 year old eho benched 425 at 215 natural.So yes there are people that are strong that you dont know,if uou are not strong then you are not training hard enough or dont care for strength.

What's odd is that I've trained in so many gyms for years and years and rarely see anyone coming close to 400lbs on a bench...once in awhile I do. Only 500lb benches I've seen were by trained, competitive pls.

True but when i was training in the mid 80s, everyone seemed to be lifting for maximum strength.
Squats, deads, bench and power cleans mostly...no one I knew was a bodybuilder. Max attempts were preformed every work out. I can think of 4 guys who had a 4 plate bench.

You guys who are big benchers know that a 315 plus bench is relatively rare, and a risk to guys over 30 years old, even a 405 bencher can make strength gains staying in the 275-315 weight range if you vary your training -GVT, rest pause, drop sets, cluster training, 5 x 5 etc... which greatly reduces the chance of a pec tear or blown out shoulder as you get older

I've trained since I was 17 yrs old. Had all kinds of injuries. Tried every movement, machine, exercise I've seen in person or read about.
I trained chest this week and I'm 40....here's what I did:
Warmup - Cybex chest press machine (250lb stack...so it says)
Warmup set 1: half stack 25 reps
Warmup set 2: 3/4 stack 25 reps
Warmup set 3: full stack 25 reps
Working exercise 1 - Hammer Strength incline press
Set 1: 4 plates x 25 reps
Set 2: 6 plates x 20 reps
Set 3: 8 plates x 20 reps
Set 4: 10 plates x 8 reps
Set 5: 10 plates x 5 reps
Working exercise 2: Smith machine flat bench
Set 1: 4 plates x 30 reps
Set 2: 6 plates x 20 reps
Set 3: 8 plates x 8 reps
Set 4: 8 plates x 4 reps
Working exercise 3: Hammer Strength decline press
Set 1: 6 plates x 20 reps
Set 2: 8 plates x 15 reps
Set 3: 10 plates x 8 reps
Set 4: 10 plates x 4 reps
Working exercise 4: Cybex chest press machine (250lb stack...so it says)
Set 1: stack x 15
Set 2: stack until failure (about 12)
Went home with great pump...chest, tris and front delts felt rock solid.

I've trained since I was 17 yrs old. Had all kinds of injuries. Tried every movement, machine, exercise I've seen in person or read about.
I trained chest this week and I'm 40 (no wes)....here's what I did:
Warmup - Cybex chest press machine (250lb stack...so it says)
Warmup set 1: half stack 25 reps
Warmup set 2: 3/4 stack 25 reps
Warmup set 3: full stack 25 reps
Working exercise 1 - Hammer Strength incline press
Set 1: 4 plates x 25 reps
Set 2: 6 plates x 20 reps
Set 3: 8 plates x 20 reps
Set 4: 10 plates x 8 reps
Set 5: 10 plates x 5 reps
Working exercise 2: Smith machine flat bench
Set 1: 4 plates x 30 reps
Set 2: 6 plates x 20 reps
Set 3: 8 plates x 8 reps
Set 4: 8 plates x 4 reps
Working exercise 3: Hammer Strength decline press
Set 1: 6 plates x 20 reps
Set 2: 8 plates x 15 reps
Set 3: 10 plates x 8 reps
Set 4: 10 plates x 4 reps
Working exercise 4: Cybex chest press machine (250lb stack...so it says)
Set 1: stack x 15
Set 2: stack until failure (about 12)
Went home with great pump...chest, tris and front delts felt rock solid.

A lot of strong warriors in this thread with elite stats. Most can't hit 500lbs, but 400+lbs seems to be a cake walk for pretty much everyone.
What's odd is that I've trained in so many gyms for years and years and rarely see anyone coming close to 400lbs on a bench...once in awhile I do. Only 500lb benches I've seen were by trained, competitive pls.

I used to bent row regularly with 405 (I'd get 4-5 reps as a last set) and people thought that was insane....never done or seen 500lb bent rows live....only a video.
There are freaks out there I tell ya!!

Probably Mike Wolfe is the strongest getbigger. I think he has repped 600 pounds before. One of the funnier guys on here as well.
Him and Dewitt are the only legit +600lb raw benchers I can think of here.

I need help understanding just how much steroids help with improving bench press numbers. The bench is the lift I struggle the most with. My best push press is better than my best bench. I know a lot of it has to do with my body's leverages and probably from emphasising lower body lifts and conditioning but I am curious as to how much steroids contribute to upper body pressing strength.
It seems as though exceptional squat and deadlift numbers can be achieved by natural trainees even at a lower bodyweight but the big benches almost always require the person to be using drugs.

There ain't no fucking way. For one thing, he ain't far from a triple bodyweight bench. For another, he's within spitting distance of the raw world record. Lastly, his bodytype doesn't look remotely like a benchpress specialist should look like. I'd bet my last dollar that everybody who has ever hit a 3x bodyweight bench has a barrel chest and short arms -- whereas this guy has long, thin arms and the chest girth of a 14 year old girl.
I'd bet that the innermost plates are fake, at the very least.

could very well be real. Some people are built for certain lifts. After my bicep was reattached after ripping off it's incredibly stronger than my other arm just by moving the attachment site. Maybe his attachments and the way his joints are allow him to do strength feats beyond what seems possible for him. Vids look real. And the plates slam only as hard as u let them.
My best was two w 405. Could never get 3. Worked out w 315 alone. My fantasy is to get back to 315. I've let work and business really interfere w lifting the last ....20 years!!!! Im
Still in the game n never left but I'd like to just chuck it all be happy n lift on a regular strict regimen again.

Or maybe guys on drugs just get big benches. ;) The answer is simple really, , the muscles in the upper body are more sensitive to androgens…you have a lot of androgen receptors in the delts traps etc. . This is why women have stronger legs than men In comparison to their upper body

I have yet to read any of this topic except for the TITLE but I have been present at many world wide bench press record events and have had the opportunity/resentment to work with or have met many of the world record powerlifting champions since way bak when Pat Casey set a world wide bench press record in a police academy/station about a mile from the San Diego Zoo where a lion roared at the exact time that Pat finished his world record bench.
Got more to say but I have to read all the previous posts before I do my best to refresh my powerlifting memory.

Gus and I trained together for that movie at Astro Gym in San Gabriel. Gus and another Japanese powerlifter named Hiro Isagawa. That was my first introduction to powerlifting. It was a little comical watching me spot Gus with standing behind the neck presses with 315. Gus' weak point was his bench. That was the one thing I beat him in.
BTW, the movie is Running man. He even brought me to the set a couple of times.

I worked out with the Army powerlifting team champion, at 280lbs+ at 5'10" he barely would get 550+......after working with him for over a year he got me to 405x3 at 235lbs and I was 10% or so BF working out 2x daily, Army PT and then lifting with him.
Just for perspective this is me a year or so ago at 210-215lbs at 12-14% fat

After my last pec tear I stopped benching again, but started back up 2-3 months ago. Maxed out a few weeks ago at 375 on a fat bar. Trying not to let the weights escalate, letting my collagen get back up to strength, and then going for an alltime PR second half of the year. 405x2 would be nice! ;) But I really want 440 Lbs (200 kg).

My best bench in a shirt (Titan Fury) was only 450, but that was so loose I could put it on without help in 20 seconds.
After my last pec tear I stopped benching again, but started back up 2-3 months ago. Maxed out a few weeks ago at 375 on a fat bar. Trying not to let the weights escalate, letting my collagen get back up to strength, and then going for an alltime PR second half of the year. 405x2 would be nice! ;) But I really want 440 Lbs (200 kg).

I have no issues with the tight spandex type bench shirts or wrist wraps.
The straight jacket bench shirts that add 30% ( or more) ruined the sport.
It's goofy to see some lifter require 6 other guys and 5 min of hard work just to get in the bench shirt.
Then, they waddle up to the bench with a damn posse in tow just to get set up.
I've seen the plates duct-taped so they don't rattle as much LOL.
At an Arnold expo I watched as one HUGE dude tried for a 1000 lbs bench.
Just before he had it on his chest, the shirt straps started snapping like bungee cords.
I heard him grown and the spotters move the wt to one side and he fell to the other.
The massive wt crashed to the platform with a lot of loud banging.
The failed bencher had flopped to the other side, laying there like a huge blob.
He looked like some pathetic elephant seal who just lost a fight for the right to mate.
Consider that the world record raw ( no shirt) is 738 lbs. ( 335kg)
The world record in an unrestricted bench shirt is 1102 lbs now.
That's a difference of 364 lbs, or 33% more with a shirt!

Today I feel stronger than I did back then, but won't attempt those poundages anymore.
Super heavy weights are for the guys in their 20s that think "my body will ALWAYS be like this!! GRRRRR!! >:("

I've worn wrist wraps for years and most likely had them on at the time of that lift. Never used any RX bb chemicals.

Not good enough, double bw raw is good but not going to win comps. And after this new tear I'm going back to focusing on overhead pressing. Still chasing a 315 seated press.

An understandable comment. However, oddly, I have never torn a pec with heavy weights. Like today: was supposed to do 295 for 8, it tore at rep 2. And that's been the case every time. Weird, but that's what happened 4 times already.

A 405 raw ( no bench shirt) , good form is very impressive.
Doing 500 lbs with a multi-ply bench shirt rarely (if ever) equals 405 raw.
FYI, the best I ever did was 405 for 2 reps ( raw) with decent form and no spotter hands on the bar.

I sent copies of powerlifting USA to OMR to show some of my lifts when I competed and other proof. No videos back in the dark ages when I put up 505. Oh and what's left of one of my 80's trophies.
Mid fifties and grandfather to be still in pretty good shape considering my spinal problems.
Keep on truckin'. You're still looking healthy and fit for a fellow of any age. Sorry about your spinal problems. Fortunately, my having degenerative disc disease has not bothered me other than it causing me to shrink almost 3" since I was 18. In fact, I zap my back very seldom. Much less often than when I was younger.

I just did a clean unassisted set of flat DB press with the 120s*. Getting in and out of position alone is more work than the set :-\
Working out alone has some obvious drawbacks. Would love to work out more with WalterWhite. That guy pushes hard in the gym...
* I know: nobody saw it, no video made and the weights weren't calibrated, so it didn't happen.

Last week, I was out in Seattle on business and worked out at the downtown Gold's. The sheer volume of demotivated, flabby twinks was seriously depressing. At 0500, nobody in shape is training in Seattle. The upside of working out alone is the only person I see is a beautiful older man carved of granite (all homo/narcissist)
