I think there is a lot of money to be made in the promotion of creating "germ free" environments, and excessive hand / body washing. We all know that this is bullshit, and I personally believe that attempting to create such environments is likely to result in a weakened immune system. That said, washing your hands after taking a shit / piss is common sense. However, in the pubs in the UK, you see a lot of disgusting fuckers who do not adhere to this.
Washing religiously, everyday, is pointless, if unwarranted. I wash as required, which results in a bath or shower 6 out of 7 days a week. Teeth, on the other hand, get a good floss and clean everyday.

I consider personal hygiene to be almost a character issue. There's a difference between messy and dirty. I'm messy and tend to be disorganize but never dirty or unhygienic. No dirty dishes or spoiled food sitting in my fridge.
I shower twice a day, morning and night, and three times when it's a workout day. I do tend to look down on people with poor hygiene as low class and gross. If you've ever been up close to a person with poor hygiene it's a stench like no other. It's this foul sour stench. I was at the library a few weeks ago and this homeless person sat down next to me while I was on the computer. Just foul and nauseating.
I wonder why animals don't get this stench. I haven't bathed my dogs in over a month and they smell fine.
I've heard about Europeans as well as African and even Asian countries. I wonder if it's an American thing to bathe at least once a day and brush your teeth several times a day.

I'm English and bathe/shower mostly every day, I'm a fitter and get covered in grease and oil and other shit most days so have to. Our lass is meticulous with face washing and bathing, never failing to wash face twice a day and bathes and washes hair every day.

Aye mate I was a builder for nearly 10 years but after the recession was getting harder and harder to make a decent living and when I was picking up work (was self employed) it was practically fiddlers money. I had did a bit fitting in the past and About two years ago a mate offered me a job on the planned maintenance and projects team he was putting together for the factory he worked at and decided to take the plunge and get some regular money for a change, at least for another few years. You will of know the place I work it's just down the road from your way.
I agree on the aches I've had a week off and it feels great to have no aching lower back or backs of shoulders.

If the women aren't sport minded or have very good genes, they tend to have incredibly lazy lives and have the same attitude to food as an infant, so they look great until they hit 20's then get steadily fatter and lie to themselves that they are 'real women' and that its ok and its normal

I'm one of those dudes who has to shower twice a day. Once in the AM, and once at night. Sometimes afternoon too if I just took a shit.
Thank god I live in the USA where a man can wash his face, cock, nuts, asshole, and armpits whenever he wants. Water conservation be damned.

Taught my kids that and as adults they have clean white teeth with zero dental issues. In Europe the smells can knock you out almost every where you go and especially on public transportation. What really gets me are those who won't shower but use perfume/cologne to cover the stench.
Someone mentioned an american public library on a previous post. They are havens for the homeless in America having heat and air conditioning with nice places to sit and hang out. The poor come in to use the free internet and the computers. Sadly many libraries have become sewers because of the home less, mentally ill and drug users looking for a place for nice shelter. Because of our American laws they can't evict those using them for shelter. That's why so many stink in America libraries.
The people that get to me are those who refuse to use the opportunity after using the bathroom to wash their hands to get the bacteria and viruses off them. In commercial gyms I keep alcohol in my car to disinfect my hands until I can get home to shower and toss my clothes into the washer and dryer.
One last observation. People who use steroids have a stench.

Lol, what? Verse is in reference to their laws (Pharisees) and not Jesus being against hygiene. Told them to be more concerned with what came out of their mouths (words, etc.) then focusing so much on what was going in (ritual, etc.). Basically, stop being such hypocrites.

I was born in Brazil and moved to the US when I was a teenager. Bathing habits aren't that much different. Most girls I know don't wash their hair everyday but do shower daily or might skip a day here and there.
America and Mexico are the fattest countries in the world. I think that has a lot to do with it. Never noticed it being a problem with British people I've met....

Many if not most Americans are obsessed with hygiene and germs. We shower far too frequently. We overuse and misuse disinfectants, including sanitizing wipes and lotions. Unless you wear makeup why is it necessary to wash your face before bedtime?
BTW, did you know that to be completely effective, disinfectants need a 10 minute dwell time? I see folks at the gym wiping down the equipment with a paper towel sprayed with disinfectant cleaner. It makes me laugh. They believe they are making the surface germ free which is not true.
Two things I agree with are washing one's hands after using the bathroom and brushing and flossing your teeth at least twice a day.

Where did you read this? I don't believe this to be true. In fact, when my wife and I were house parents for troubled youth, mostly black kids, they bathed/showered and primped almost constantly.
Many black folks suffer from dry skin. They use a lot of lotions and oils to keep from looking "ashy". They also use oils in their hair, which tends to be delicate and fine, in order to be able to manage or comb it.

Try "moist wipes" from Costco. They are much better than rubbing your butthole raw. Charmin and other brands are also available at the supermarket or drugstore. Don't use Baby wipes though. They aren't flushable and will clog up your plumbing.

I think washing habits are somewhat learned behaviour. My older brother has disgusting personal hygiene. He grew up abroad where washing everyday was the norm and it was what he would do. When he came here that all stopped. I'm just glad he moved out at 16 (he's 16 years older then me)> Dude washes once a week if that and insists on wearing polyester tops. His 4 kids do exactly the same. If they are visiting I have to make sure to tell them to wash before coming over.
Washing facilities are generally cramped and awkward in the UK and if you live in shared accommodation its probably pretty filthy. That probably contributes to the poor hygiene levels.
I've gone out with European girls and one of the reasons they said they were into me was cos I didn't smell (always washed before every date/session). I think that sums up the general hygiene level here.

I've heard about Europeans as well as African and even Asian countries. I wonder if it's an American thing to bathe at least once a day and brush your teeth several times a day.

In Thailand white foreigners have a reputation for not showering as often and being less hygienic.
After living in the UK for almost a decade I don't blame them. I doubt those in the US are much better.
And now after having been in Thailand, I installed a bidet water spray for my toilet instead of only using toilet paper which is not hygienic.
Before having any sex, it is also custom for both to shower and use the toilet with the bidet spray.
I also now take my shoes off near the door when I enter my home, so I don't bring in the filth and germs from outside. Especially not into my bedroom.

Something must be done about these people
Layers of overlapping fat rolls are a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi. Athletes foot can occur anywhere on one's body given the right environment. Image how hard it would be to successfully wipe your ass if your belly was so large that you could not get your arm over it in order to reach what needs to be cleaned up.
With respect to doing something about these folks, for many of them nothing short of a lengthy famine would help. They've given up on changing, even if it were possible.

Women tend not to wash their hair daily as it leaves it dry and frazzled looking. The non wash days allow the natural oils to restore that healthy look.

I think washing habits are somewhat learned behaviour. My older brother has disgusting personal hygiene. He grew up abroad where washing everyday was the norm and it was what he would do. When he came here that all stopped. I'm just glad he moved out at 16 (he's 16 years older then me)> Dude washes once a week if that and insists on wearing polyester tops. His 4 kids do exactly the same. If they are visiting I have to make sure to tell them to wash before coming over.
Washing facilities are generally cramped and awkward in the UK and if you live in shared accommodation its probably pretty filthy. That probably contributes to the poor hygiene levels.
I've gone out with European girls and one of the reasons they said they were into me was cos I didn't smell (always washed before every date/session). I think that sums up the general hygiene level here.
I remember that shit, with the old back boilers you had to flick a switch and wait several hours for hot water for a bath, and even then you only got enough for one bath which was never ideal in a houseful of people

I disagree. I live by the beach in NJ. I also vacation in the south. The beaches in the south are filled with soft out of shape people and you don't see the amount of that in NJ.
Im talking closer to New York. There were lots of fat people, a man wandering around oblivious to the fact he had soiled his jogging bottoms and a gang of rastas selling drugs from a room in our hotel corridor.

It is actually very healthy to defecate squatted down. There are studies here in Europe about the relationship between colon cancer and defecating seated instead of squat position. Also there is a much less incidence of lower back spine issues in 3rd world countries and some doctors believe that is due to them defecating squating. Google it.

I follow that up with another swipe of toilet paper to dry the area, and make sure all traces have been removed.

My aunt said that I have fantastic skin, at a recent Christmas gathering. What do I do? I use moisturizer after each shower, and upon waking (most days)
I also do not bake myself in the sun.
