fucking idiots these people.
i don't understand why they don't try vegetarianism if they're doing it for ethical reasons, can get ethically produced dairy products and virtually every fucking city has a local farmer's market where local family run farms sell dairy foods.
if doing it for health reasons, then they're even bigger idiots because there are no health benefits of a vegan diet to being a vegetarian or meat eater. It's a shiteside worse for your health!

Whenever somebody tells me they're vegan, I end any conversation we're having and abruptly walk off or if I'm having a bad day and said person was annoying even before the vegan acclamation, I'd backhand them on the face. Several times depending on how bad the day was.

No. Dairy is not any more ethical. Milk cows are treated like crap, their babies are taken from them and either sold for veal or beef later on. Dairy cows are grinded up for beef once they can't produce milk...

Eggs are also horrible because of the conditions chickens are in.

Unless you have backyard chickens, you have no way to know where the eggs come from.

Nothing wrong with eating meat.  It's the goofballs who go to the extreme trying to vilify it that annoy me.  Keep junk foods and sugars to a minimum.  Everything in moderation.

I agree. For example, my older brother is a vegan but not an asshole.  He sometimes jokingly says that he does it so there's more meat available for me.  My younger brother was a vegetarian for years but one day walked into a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and said the heaven's opened up and a voice said, "EAT!"    ;D

He said he couldn't argue with that, so he sat down and ordered.

Neither were nor ever will be libtards.  They just have/had a different diet than me.

Depends what kind of meat. Your body does not need red meat. There is ample evidence that HIGH consumption of red meat is associated with a range of physical diseases. Of course, eating red meat 1x per week probably will not do much harm, but Americans eat too much of it.  You can easily get all the nutrients you need from lean chicken, turkey, fish, and egg whites. I have completely cut out red meat from my diet. If I could get my nutrients from other food, and avoid any chance of increasing diseases, why continue to eat red meat?  ??? ??? I guess the only answer is: because it taste good and I like it. So be it.

yes, but if we all follow the health rules and guidelines we would all be eating extremely boring and sad diets. I will eat my red meat, have some life quality, and live with the chance of reducing my life span with a few years.

My parents live in NJ and their chicken breast (not on sale) is 1.99/lb  :'(

Plus, I don't really have time to hunt down sales in different stores at the moment. I do wanna find a good butcher I can buy from in bulk, just haven't looked yet... Been working weekdays AND weekends for the past couple years, as well as school haha. So time is tight.

correct. nothing wrong with eating meat. whats wrong is big agribusiness and its lack of ethics. Whether your a "lib" or "neo-con conservatard", we can all agree on that.

i choose to limit all meat and do my best to avoid dairy. i dont think dairy is good for people in general. my whole thing here is, id rather go hunt a deer and use the meat than buy a burger from the store. but since i dont hunt, this wont be happening but i would eat it if a friend shot it. it took me a while to come on board with vegetarian-esq eating...it really took me sitting down and really asking myself that if i couldnt actually butcher and kill a cow myself, then i have no right eating it. a few weeks ago, i had a hard time killing a fish i caught for dinner. like i didnt want it to suffocate, so i stabbed it in the brain (atleast tried to) and it flopped all over violently ...was really hard for me to do that and felt this sense of guilt. Now if i have those feelings for a fish, there aint no way i should be eating a cow or chicken that had a shit life full of terror, or drink milk from a cow stuck in a stall all day just so i can have my milk.

by the way, i never tell anyone im a vegetarian, vegan, or pescatarian or anything...i just dont eat that stuff anymore, amd its no ones business. sure, there are loud mouths on each side of the fence, doesnt meall all vegans or all meat eaters are annoying

flexitarian for the win. mostly vegetarian with a lot of fruit. Meat and dairy eaten in moderation.

I had stomach issues for a long period of time. Bloating and pain in the abdomen.

It was cured by switching to fruit, bcaas and a few cups of milk from morning until dinner time. then dinner time I eat whatever I want if not cutting.

The attention whores will find something else to pat themselves on the back for sooner or later.

Oldie but goodie:  A vegan, a Crossfitter, and an atheist walk into a bar.  I know this because they all told everyone within two minutes.

The women I know who tout it are fat. One is always telling me abut going to dairy queen for frozen drinks. ::)

Why is what diet someone chooses to follow, veganism, vegetarianism, being a total carnivore or just your regular "meat and potatoes" kind of person matters to anyone else. Nothing needs to stop except criticizing people for their chosen diet.

Some people argue for the ethics, ie whether it is humane or not in today's modern society or for some made up religious reasons, etc.

I was arguing with a vegan a while back saying it's OK to eat animals for sustenance. By the end of it, I was labeled more fit to rot in hell than the worst of the worst. Well, plants don't want to be eaten either, some have evolved for defensive mechanisms just for such threats. In a perfect universe, we wouldn't need to consume other living things to carry on. We were placed here without a real choice, so we should all get over it.

Plus, I don't really have time to hunt down sales in different stores at the moment. I do wanna find a good butcher I can buy from in bulk, just haven't looked yet... Been working weekdays AND weekends for the past couple years, as well as school haha. So time is tight.

It's ok, they're cool with it. No feelings and all.

What are you who are Vegan eating for breakfast?

I am not vegan, but I do not eat meat in the morning. I've never been one to eat food in the morning. In fact, I find the sight of food very early in the morning to be nauseating. I've always been like this. I have to be up for at least 1-3 hours before I could eat anything. Nonetheless, some foods to eat for breakfast may include:

Oatmeal w/ cinnamon
Whole grain bread
All natural peanut butter
Assorted nuts (almonds, cashews)
Fruit (banana, strawberries, blueberries, apple, orange)
Avacado
Coffee or tea
Water

Beyond this, what more do you need?  ??? ???

For the past few years, I've pretty much lived as a Pescetarian and only around 3 or 4 times a month eat any red meats. I actually reckon I could probably cut out all types of meat and not really miss it. What I would find far more challenging would be to cut out dairy.

i live in nyc, my chicken breast(not on sale) is 1.29 a lb trimmed and skinned.

I don't understand why the hell chicken is so much cheaper in the States than here in Canada. The absolute cheapest we see boneless skinless chicken breasts here is $3.99/lb, and that is only when on sale. Usually it is about $6.99/lb. It's not like we need to import chicken for fuck sakes. I can't think of any reason why our chicken should be that much more expensive.

Now what did Blaha say about the 4 types of vegans?

Quote
1. Those who are genuinely concerned for animals.

2. Those who use Veganism to mask their eating disorders.

3. Social Justice Warrior types who use it as an angle to feel more morally superior to others.

4. Sociopaths who have an inability to interact with other humans.

Do you really think that they care about animals suffering? If they did, then are they lobbying for more humane treatment/killing  of cattle and other domesticated animals? And is there also some sort of ego fulfillment going on?

Same here. I have definitely included more vegan options in my diet. I don't feel the need to eat meat 3x per day. Crazy. There are some days where I won't even meat. I have not eaten meat in the last 4 days. I have mainly eaten whole grains breads and pastas, vegetables, fruit, legumes, etc.

Congratulations. Your thoughts have certainly evolved a lot  since your response in this thread (http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=587596.msg8319451#msg8319451) I started a few months ago:

For a brief moment, I thought about becoming vegan.
But then I realized Id have to learn all new recipes and food combinations, etc.
Much easier to just throw a piece of meat in a skillet.

I don't know if you ever checked out the restaurant I recommended, but I can't help but feel that some of my posts in that thread influenced your change of heart since you have actually repeated some of that stuff in this thread. I've also posted about just doing all vegetarian/vegan days as an alternative to giving up meat.  Good job. Like I said in the previous thread, even if you do not give up meat, transitioning to a more veggie-focused diet will still have a lot of benefits.

Anyway, you are still a phaegg.

I'm not a vegan, but, besides the lack of a decent protein source and all other variables being equal, do you believe a person drinking milk and eating red meat is healthier then a person that doesn't?

If veganism is so unhealthy due to a lack of decent protein, then vegans would be dropping dead. But they aren't. So...................... ....

When vegans start dropping dead due to lack of protein, then we have something to worry about.

As for me, I am not a full fledged vegan. I still eat meat (but I cut out read meat 99.9% of the time. If I go to a BBQ, I may have a burger). I am going on the 5th day (or something--I lost count) of not eating meat. Today is my close friends daughters birthday and he is having a bbq. I will still clear of the red meat, but will have chicken.

Obviously, I have no problem with people who eat meat, since I still do eat meat. However, I have drastically cut down on it's consumption. I see no reason to eat meat every day, especially since vegan options are a fine replacement. Overall, I feel less bloated, poop better, and have shed some permabulking weight. My strength has not decreased in the gym, and I have not lost size.

Just my 2 cents.
