Pretty much injury free after 15 years of lifting but the lower back is a constant problem.
I know getbig must have the cure, what are the secret stretches, exercises or sleeping styles to get rid of lower back pain?
-
It depends on the problem. You may have one or more degenerated disks due to years of heavy lifting. See a spine surgeon, not for surgery, but for proper testing and diagnosis.

The lower back muscles are connected to the butthole and years of lifting can build up tension the solution is simple buy a thick vibrator at least 8 inches push it up your butt and turn it on for at least 15 mins each day, within two weeks your back pain will be gone.
-
The solution is a layoff from weight training and anything that irritates/hurts your lower back. Do cardio for blood flow to aid healing.

and if not, fuck it, its been a hell of a two weeks.

Lower back pain is the exact reason I'm back trolling on here. 21 years of training and I wrecked my lower back last week picking up a fucking warm up dumbbell the wrong way. Working from home, bored outta my mind.
Don't know if there's any clever cures. I take a warm bath twice a day for an hour each time and medicate the other 22 hours.
Though mine was just a freak accident and it's already healing fast. I find the most obvious things worked best. Stay away from the gym, feed your body healthy stuff, plenty of water, stretching, a lot of rest but also make a point of moving around to keep the muscle working. Also kicked the girlfriend outta bed as I need the whole area to sleep in positions comfortable to me. Sleeping on my back with my arms next to my sides feels best. Think Dracula in a coffin.
Good luck with it, it's a nasty nasty injury to deal with. And I've trained through a cracked rib, buggered shoulder joint, broken thumb and numerous other gym injuries. This one took me out with blinding efficiency.

Even laughing hurts my back >:(

Some stretching...?
-
Using an inversion board works too.
-
Rest and medication first...if it doesnt go away, might require small surgery
-
Firm mattress and flip it every few months.
Actually just yesterday i bought a traditional japanese Shikibuton. It's just a thin pad on the floor but I will be sleeping on that at least for now and see if it helps.

Would like to try that. Also I lift heavy so maybe I will have to start lifting light for reps or stop lifting altogether. No more 60# db curls for a while. :'(

This will kill your lower back. You need a decent mattress with solid support.

There are several stretching exercises you can and should do before getting out of bed to relieve lower back pain. I learned them about 20 years ago and never thought I would need them. About three years ago I needed, them... started doing them and now have no more pain. Look at your dog or cat: what is the first they do when they wake up? They stretch. You should do the same thing. 8)

9mm aspirin straight to the brain. Seriously though, it's just something you'll have to live with now. Losing weight may help. I went from 242 to 228 and could feel a difference. I'm now back to 245 and I can feel it.

years of pain killers then surgery...if you follow the medical model

Solution 1: Don't ask getbiggers
Solution 2: Go see someone who is smart and qualified.
-
Disc replacement not spinal fusion if the problem is disc degeneration, with replacement you will be able to train again, fusion you can train but your just overloading the surrounding discs with the same issues that damaged the problem disc. History will eventually just repeat.

Reverse hyper bench. You'll need nothing else. I bought one from Westside Barbell, and honestly it's the best purchase I've ever made.

Reverse hyper and inversion table really help my bad lower back (herniated disc) issues...

I have tried the "smart and qualified" theory. The truth was revield pretty quick. They all just have their own theritory with people around doing their stuff to make money. Kings in their all little kingdom. Like Church and priest. Pain is a great way to make money from. Every human got backpain sometimes then they seek help once twice before they understand the specialist dosent do jack shit. The third time its "oh yeah, not this fucking shit again" and u dont seek help bcz time heal it, not the specialist.

20+ years of lifting for me and I am in the same situation as you. No disabling injuries except for back pain everyday which flares up with too much sex :'( or if I do too much running or deep squats/ leg press.
Only thing that helps for me is Voltaren /diclofenac- extremely effective and I guess this indicates some sort of inflammation/ swelling which irritates nerves(?) I suspect my hamstrings are too tight and that I should do systematic stretching. Tight/short hamstrings will put pressure on the lower back.

Never ask a barber if you need a haircut.
Also, make sure you don't have a gut and actually do some stretches.

This. This. This. No one should think of anything else if they are overweight and experiencing back pain.

If you do not have access to a machine then use a swiss ball which you place onto a pedestal and something to hold onto(mom for example).
An important part of getting the benefits is that your legs have room, can hang and thus your back gets "lengthened" and you "muscularly" shortend/contract it.
If you do it right you will have an immediate decrease in pain/symptoms and a bolstered/airy feel in the back.

Anyroad: with lower back pain, pre-exhaust with different puldowns/pullups, supported slow-not-to-heavy DB rows, maybe one-arm T bar rows.
And finish with BB rows head against the wall.

Stretching....Yoga?
If your hammies are tight, it will cause major problems for your lower back.
Can you touch your toes when stretching? If not, consider working on your flexibility. I stretch between sets.

Firm mattress and flip it every few months.
Firm slatted bed also helps

I would ask what have you been doing differently in the past couple of weeks. Are you under stress? Are you sitting your ass on a new seat, new car, new mattress, new diet, etc? I've read up to 80% of all back pain is not understood. Docs are only good if there are real detectable problems, other than that they know shit and just prescribe painkillers which is no real solution, you're just hoping it will resolve on its own.
-
Use a foam roller.

For real? You are asking it here? Well, I think that you have already all good advises you can get, because there is only one real solution:
Nothing on this planet cannot help you more, than this excercise. Here in Finland they use this for therapy after back surgeries etc. and it is only know help for the lower back pain...but it need work, and some time..AND lots of reps, 20 -> 50 -> 100, so it means reasonable weights. And to avoid unbalance between abs and lower back, you need to do shitloads of abs also to maintain your posture. Not sit ups, but crunches etc. so you will avoid strenghten hip flexors too much.
-
funny i solved the back pain crisis years ago in old posts i made here lol dont bother
-
Might not work for anyone else but I do four exercise in my routine and my lower back has been bullet proof for decades. I use semi stiff leg deadlifts off a block for the stretch. A slow controlled motion where I brush the top of my feet with the bar. Weighted back extensions holding a plate behind my head. This is the old horizontal "hyper extension" bench and not the new 45 degree ones where the resistance trails off toward the completion of a rep. Lastly controlled deadlifts and power cleans. I notice the new way to deadlift is to rip the bar off the floor with a jerk. I never do this. I might lift less because of it but I steadily apply pressure till the bar comes off the floor. Power cleans I can use speed because the weight is so much lighter than deadlifts. Also a good idea to stretch out the hamstrings.
I use to throw out my back a lot when I was in my 20's and 30's. Now at nearly 60 I don't have any problems. I know I'm lifting lighter as I get older for example never going above 405lbs in the dead but my lower back is healthy.

My fish and me understand each other..... ;)

Didnt have time to read responses so sorry if ive doubled up. But I got alot of benefit from sleeping in the floor with legs up the wall. Also plenty of very incremental stretches. Also went to a sports massage therapist who gave me one hell of a glute massage, used elbows etc. Really hurt at the time but after one session was able to stand straight after almost 6 months of walking likexa cripple. He said that virtually nobody realises how much the glutes can impact lower back issues. Well it worked a treat. Might be worth a try.
