Not fashionable but I am impressed. Prime DC was unbelievably good IMO. Saw them at Donnington in 1990 but by then his voice had gone.
When I was 14yrs old I really thought that I was the Child of Babylon.
The guy from The Union has a similar voice but only a few of the songs really bang it out.

Saw Zakk a few weeks ago.He looks and plays terrible these days. Reminds me of the hermit on the inner sleeve of Zep IV. I'm a huge fan of his playing, but this wasn't what I expected to see and hear at all.

MVP line-ups never create the magic one might expect. I'll take the four/five musicians, best or not, who gel together perfectly for all-star music. Stones, Zep, Van Halen, Crowes, Rival Sons, etc.
Still:
V: Jay Buchanan
G: EVH
B: Who Cares
D: Bonham

I constantly read the topic:
best ever cock line up
:-X
-
Johnny Winter would have to be part of greatest rock band line up. Best guitarist of all time.
-
No Philo?
Phil was very all around: singing, playing and songwriting, but, it's hard to call him the best at any one thing, as opposed to Hendrix, who many believe is the greatest guitarist of all time. I actually went back and forth about the bassist. I thought about Jack Bruce, Andy Fraser, Chris Squire and Larry Graham.
No such issue about the Vocalist. Rodgers, IMO, is the starting Singer of any rock all star band.
-
Vocals - Ronnie James Dio
Guitar - Vivian Campbell
Bass - Jimmy Bain
Drums - Vinny Appice

Greatest Scottish Vocalist:
Dewar had a great voice. Trower is such an under appreciated guitarist. Bridge of Sighs is one of my favorite albums.
-
Damn I have to think about this one a bit!
-
None
-
Ginger Baker on drums, should be a given imo. Self-taught and completely his own. No one has ever matched him.

David lee roth -vocals
john bonham drums
john paul johns- bass

You idiots all forget the greatest bass player in rock history: the ox.

No.
Not for rock.
-
I would think something like this:
Vocals: Prime Axl Rose. (6 Octaves is hard to find)
Drums: Keith Moon
Guitar: Randy Rhodes
Bass:Cliff Burton
Shit is all subjective though and we lean to the musical tastes we have and who we listened to growing up anyway.
-
Vocals: Liberace
Backup Vocals: Pitbull
Drums: Prince
Guitar: Barry Manilow
Bass: Michael Jackson
Keyboards: MC Hammer

Speaking of this, I'm also fine with saying Bruce Dickinson instead of Axl.
Prime Bruce was fucking amazing.

WAY too busy, overplays everything. But not interesting busy, like Peart or Danny Carey, just a continuously sloppy solo through every song. Horrible technique, too.

I suppose that's fair, but I think talentwise, he's one of the, if not the best of all time.
I get where you are coming from though.
-
No.
Not for rock.
Just because he's so good at jazz?
He has such a unique style of playing that everything else forms around him, imo, no matter what that is. I had no interest in watching drum-playing until I saw a Blind Faith video and couldn't fucking believe this guy.

Not really.
Just recognized it was the late Hendrix' Band of Gypsys original line-up.
Now fuck off idiot.

Dio
I liked Sabbath / Rainbow Dio... After that, I felt his age was starting to become a factor in his voice.
-
Mick Jagger - vocals
Keith Richards - guitar
Bill Wyman - bass
Charlie Watts - drums
Brian Jones - on whatever instrument he wanted to play that day!
Yeah, the best rock band line up EVER: The Original Rolling Stones!
-

I rather think was one of the very few that kept his voice as he was aging....compare him to DL Roth or even Dickinson, and both are younger than RJD was.. 8)

As far as holding on to their voice, no one is even close to Rodgers.
Age 63:
-
He has such a unique style of playing that everything else forms around him, imo, no matter what that is.
And that's pretty much it - drums should rarely shape a song; they should complement it.
Also, he relies too much on the tribal rhythm bullshit, rock is blues-based.
-
I suppose that's fair, but I think talentwise, he's one of the, if not the best of all time.
I hear that, see it in drummer polls and such. Not sure why, though. He's figured out the single-stroke roll is all. Fantastic, what else?
Every drummer anywhere will tell you the song comes first - that subtlety and nuance matter. But they seem to forget this when they praise Moon.
-

Age 63:
Agree. Rogers hasn't lost anything.
-
And that's pretty much it - drums should rarely shape a song; they should complement it.
Maybe that's why he played so well with betas like Stevie Winwood and Eric Clapton.
Also, he relies too much on the tribal rhythm bullshit, rock is blues-based.
Just a convenient excuse for him to meet black chicks, imo.

You're trying to make this a thing, l get it. But it's just my preference is all, and I explained why.
So fuck his tribal nonsense, this is a rock thread.

David lee roth -vocals

David Lee Roth hasn't been able to sing for years. His last tour with Van Halen was painful to listen to.

True. Quite a minor disagreement in such a big world. I call a truce.

Why?
-
Creed, A perfectly assembled rock band
-
Vocals d and guitar are impossible for me because they change daily for me :-\
One day it could be SRV and the next it could be Page. same with vocals. one day it could be Greg Allman then the next it could be Jim Morrison.
-
Why?
More of a personality driven decision.
The rest of those guys are mostly on the straight and narrow so I added him to give the band a little kick.
-
Speaking of this, I'm also fine with saying Bruce Dickinson instead of Axl.
Prime Bruce was fucking amazing.
Funny, At the time you posted this I was like no way because I kept thinking of Bruce now that he's older and cant sing like his younger days.
...but lately I've been listening to ''Piece of Mind" and you're right. I forgot what a awesome singer he was back in the day!
-
There is no such thing, universally. It all comes down to opinions and personal preferences.
-

When I first heard Number of the Beast, I was a youngster and was absolutely blown away by Bruce... From then until probably Fear of the Dark, I thought he was just the best thing I had ever heard.
His Accident of Birth Album was also really good, but yeah, today, his voice is just older and run down, it's not his fault, dude is gotta be pushing 60 by now.
Age gets us all.
-
GNR 1986. Wouldn't change a thing.
Yup. For me, they were the epitome of rock n roll music and excess. Except for Axl they were all unremarkable on their own, but together they just kicked ass.

This is a very impressive performance of a very hard song to sing by 63 year old Mickey Thomas.

Why do all these spin-offs think they need some Grace-lookalike on stage..? :-X

1. The create the feel of the original band.
2. To have a vag on-call 24/7.

Why this fucking thread made to 4 pages is ludicrous !!! >:(
I TOLD YOU ALREADY ON MY FIRST POST ON PAGE 1 WHO WAS THE BEST EVER ROCK BAND LINE UP !!!
AC/DC in their original line up with the legendary Bon Scott !!!

I don't think I could choose between Number of the Beast and Piece of Mind but the production of Piece of Mind is just awesome. every instrument sounds great.

Totally understand.
I have every Album Maiden ever released and for me, It would be tough to choose between almost anything between Number of the Beast and Fear of the Dark, (Except for No Prayer for the Dying)
I really did not like that album.
The Live After Death IS the greatest live album I've ever heard in my life though.

Saw them live this year and Bruce still sounds incredible, especially considering his age and the fact that his adventure with cancer a few months ago.
Live After Death is indeed the best live album ever.
