Title: Seattle Seahawks showing class - standing and locking arms

Doug Baldwin promised the Seattle Seahawks would plan a demonstration of "unity" during the national anthem before Sunday's season opener against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 11.

Who gives a fuck. So sick and tired of this fake attention seeking shit that loser celeb sport people do to get attention. They have no real commitment to the issue they are getting attention for except for their own personal gain. It's easy to do, pick a topic that people are sensitive too already, put yourself into it on any way you can to be sensitive to it. Wham, instant attention and possible career advancement. How many of you knew who this fuck was before all this?

Hi Coach, I follow your posts for years and you are a GB legend. ( I have been here on and off from 2001)
But why not post a link AND a summery of the newsitem / article? Instead of just slamming down a link? Makes such a post/topic more attractive to read and reply. God bless you and your business.

RW
“For me, I love the flag, I love the national anthem because it’s an emotional time for me because I’m so grateful I get to play on the football field. Every time I get to put my hand on my heart it’s truly an honor to the military for me. I think about my family members who have served and friends. I train down in San Diego all the time, so I’m around the Navy and I see those guys. Just to see those guys around and all they do for our country and the people in Afghanistan and all these people fighting – 9/11 for example, coming up here, that’s going to be our first game, and I think about all the pain from that. That’s why I stand and put my hand on the heart.”

As a veteran I really don't care what they do but I respect what Wilson had to say. Why not just keep the tradition going and stop drawing attention to it. These guys make millions and would not be making this money any other place in the world. Stand out of respect and play the game. This is getting idiotic.

this isn't "class".   They're not doing the knee, but they're sure still disrespecting our national anthem.

They're attention whoring.   And I don't know how somehow, kneeling is classless fuckery, but interlocking arms is heroic and classy.

They're not putting their hands on their hearts, they're taking attention away from the soldiers - ON 9/11 - so they can be the story.

Fuck them.  They want to be attention whores.   I can't believe you magically call this classy.

Focus on the question, coach.

Why can't these players just put their hand on their heart and respect the national anthem.

they aren't kneeling, or sitting, but they are locking arms in order to make the entire anthem about them, and their claims of inequity.  They're freaking millionaire attention whores.

I swear, if they were a team from Cleveland, you'd be calling them attention whoring a-holes.  But you seem to have some connection with this 911 truther Pete Carroll.  Are you going to join him in trashing a 911 hero survivor general on 911, too?

Shaking my head.  Caroll is a big as liberal as they come.  Everyone else sees it.  Dude endorsed obama, banged college chicks, cheated thru college, is a huge 911 truther... tough to argue he isn't a liberal.

Wouldn't surprise you to know that Bill Clinton has a sweet spot for Carroll as well, would it?

it's never classy to upstage the national anthem with your own political bullshit.

nothing classy about it, coach.   Classy = putting your hand on heart and letting the anthem be about the nation, our soldiers.  These idiots are trying to BE the story on 9/11.  No room for that.

Somehow, you thought it was trashy for them to kneel, but it's classy for them to interlock arms.  They're protesting it, and it's not welcome.

All companies and organizations do this. Of course the Seahawks don't give a damn about Anerica. They care about one thing only: money. Most organizations engage in good PR tactics because it looks good. Nothing more, nothing less. Yet, people fall for it every time. :-/

Outside of the Olympics, where you compete representing your country, why is it necessary to play the national anthem before a professional sporting event?

Why would you? You just attend it for an education. Sports has really zero impact unless you're on a team in terms of your future. No one ever asked me on a job interview, "did you root for your colleges/universities sport team."

Wouldn't the "classy" thing be the normal practice?

Interlocking arms like a girls high school soccer team is making a statement about racial injustice?

I don't care what anyone does before the anthem, as its their earned right, and as was pointed out there's no reason to play it before sporting events, they're all Americans  (usually). (Why aren't the local state anthems played before these events as well? ) but this isn't "classy", it's a statement of unity among 53 dudes.

Lebron, Carmelo, DWade and CP3 provided more of a "classy" protest at the espy awards.

Wars aren't fought for our freedom to play sports.

Bottom line?  It's a protest.  During the national anthem.  To promote their own social agenda.

Coach calls it class because he's a big Pete Carroll fan.

It's not class.  It's trash.

Class was definitely not the adjective to use.

Class would have been donating enough money to send 100 of urban young adults to the police academy so they could return to their community and start to build respectful relationships.

Or donating a game check as a collective, or setting up college funds, or hiring lawyers to sue corrupt police departments, or protesting the game completely by not playing.

They're making a statement, which is fine, but it's not a classy act.

Im guessing the rationale is because people fight to defend our freedom, which allows sport players to play every sunday.

Though, for the most part, I think religion and politics should be left out of sports.

I dont go to my job and sing the national anthem. No one in my job talks about religion or politics UNLESS its required to do so. Other than that, its two topics that are rarely ever discussed.

Sport players play every Sunday because it is a multi-billion dollar business.

Make no mistake, it has nothing to do with what the good people in the armed services are fighting to defend.

Well, I guess the connection I was attempting to make is that if we lived without freedom, no one would be playing football (unless allowed).

But, I agree, the NFL and most major organizations can give 2 shits about any social issue or any armed forced. It's good public relations to keep on making money. That's all it is.

What does the national anthem have to do with "social issues"?

Because a police officer had to justifiably defend himself against a life-threatening attack from a thug like Mike Brown does not make it a social issue, even if Colon EataDick says so.

If you want to commemorate or remember 9/11 today, that is fine. That event affected all of us and innocent people lost their lives for no good reason. Blacks shooting blacks in their shithole neighborhoods is a black problem and if they have no desire to clean up their problem - then why the hell should I care?

it seems to weird that coach would bend over backwards to defend the seahawks here.

their cause is that of everything he shits on - trayvon, cracking down on police, mike brown, etc.

I guess it's okay to support horrible causes if the guy was a great football coach once?

Force of habit. People usually refer to "social and political" issues together. I was not referring to social issues, specifically.

I misspoke.

I was mainly referring to the singing of the national anthem before each sporting event, i.e., to try to put forth the perception that sport organizations really  care about our military. Its just good PR for them. Keeps people watching = money.

I don't watch sports any more. I used to watch sports when I was younger. The singing of the national anthem has been going on for a long time at sporting events. Even those who dont watch sports, know it is sung at the beginning of games. I am baffled as to why. I don't sing the national anthem when I go into work. In most jobs you don't. Why do sports? Well, I guess its good PR and money making scheme.

I think its a sign of unity.  Probably a meme that caught on that should not have.  The Star Spangled Banner is too good for sporting events in my opinion.  Those rats don't even deserve to listen to it.

Truth. Can think of much more important things to do than watch football. Like taking a shit or getting a boil lanced. Not even kidding, I laugh at all the sports nerds who's head are full of statistical facts about there favorite pro whatever. Like they are smart because of it. the anthem is part of the pre-game ritual but I think it's intended to lend a more serious tone to the proceedings. as if chasing a ball around was a national concern. football is serious business.

i think all of these football players that did protests are dicks.

i think they have means, and plenty of platform, and lots of ability to reach the masses with their political opinions.

I think their doing it - on 9/11 - during the national anthem - is trashy and disgusting.  And you thought so too when it was a player that looked like Kapernick.  But when your hero Pete Carroll condones Kapernick, and lets his entire team do it, you magically called it classy.

What's weird is that you can't tell the difference between what Kaepernick did and the message the Seahawks sent. You seem be the only one in the country that has a problem with this.....or is it just because it's Pete Carroll and the Hawks in general? For once be honest.

They both chose to disrupt the national anthem, so they could push their own political agendas.

Hey dudes... you're famous athletes, you have thousands of followers and million of tv viewers every time you touch a mic or a football.

You don't need to "lock arms" and "show unity" so "NOW they'll listen to our message".... DURING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.

It's classless, it's disrespectful.

NFL Team Led By 9/11 Truther Might Boycott National Anthem…On 9/11

Seattle Seahawks players say the team might boycott the national anthem during an upcoming game with the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, September 11 — the anniversary of the deadliest terror attack on U.S. soil.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is a celebrity among 9/11 truthers. In a 2012 meeting with retired four-star general Peter Chiarelli, Carroll badgered him with questions about “every 9/11 conspiracy theory you can think of.”

Not sure what your point is here. You voted twice for Obama, he disrespects and shits on the military. Killary is the biggest liar and probably the most corrupt politician in the history of politics and had four Americans killed and blamed it on a YouTube video and you support her.

One thing I can say about Carroll is he's done more for LA and the kids of LA more than any lib in politics today. Obama completely destroyed his area of Chicago and left it that and even today continues to do NOTHING and that goes for his cohort Rahm Emmanuel.  Your turn

i know.  I cannot believe pete carroll harassed him so badly, he had to leave the building.

it's one thing to not believe the official story - but to badger a hero over it?

pete and his supporters seem to be about a whole new level of anti-Americanism.

it's never classy to upstage the national anthem with your own political bullshit.

nothing classy about it, coach.

STFU with your nationalism bulshit ,putting hand on heart etc ..your country is more about putting hand on another mans cock...most Americans are fags and you talk about putting hand on "heart"

He's calling for a token white guy to join their protest in disrespecting the flag now.  Still consider this to be classy, Coach?
It's no longer about their personal views... this Pete Carroll player is now recruiting others to disrespect the flag to help his cause.

Seahawks' Michael Bennett: White player needs to join protest

ultiple NFL standouts have joined San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in kneeling or raising a fist for the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality, but one player sees a significant step ahead for the movement.

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett told The Seattle Times on Thursday he believes at least one white player needs to join in the pregame displays for the protests to reach the next level in public discourse.

"You need a white guy to join the fight," Bennett said. "The white guy is super important to the fight. For people to really see social injustices, there must be someone from the other side of the race who recognizes the problem, because a lot of times if just one race says there’s a problem, nobody is realistic about it.”

it's a totally not classy thing to say you want teammates to join you, only because their skin color is a currency you can use to further your cause.

You usually respond back within .....a minute, but this one took at least a day for you to think about this response.

This is why I hate politics. What is this constant left and right bullshit? In a world filled with smart people, they would vote based on the candidate that best represents what they believe in. In this fucked up world, we have people taking sides (Republican/Democrat) like it's the Crips vs. the Bloods. Political parties are absolutely worthless.

The senate is just as corrupt as it was 2,000+ years ago, yet you idiots still continue to stare blankly, and drool while watching CNN or Fox.

Your vote does not mean shit. The only reason you matter to the government, is because you are a warm body who pays taxes.

I would vote for Kiefer Sutherland or Dennis Haysbert. Why not? They are all actors anyway.
