Thanks for that. I trained with Rory in the early 80's and he was an incredible person and a great bodybuilder. It's a shame he never hit the big time, but in a way he did..

Training 20-30 sets per bodypart twice a week...still. Takes 3 months off per year from training to recover. Interesting shit to be read under each of his instagram photos.

3 months off gear, or 3 months out the gym?
3 months off training each year. January , February and March. As for gear...at best TRT 200mgs. Rory is old school muscle from the days when one built a base of solid muscle. Guy has been training like a beast for years. Take a look at recent instagram videos of him lat pulldowning full stack plus a 45 plate attached.

Rory is one of those bodybuilders that looked like a world beater, but never broke thru in big contests.
I've seen others look rather "meh" in the gym only to look incredible on stage, under the lights.
Rory had a near perfect structure and overall flow to his physique.
Under the lights he never really "popped" or provided the wow factor.
A winning look on stage, is not the same as being impressive walking around the gym.
BSA , Big Sean Allen is a great example of this phenomenon.
Walking around the nationals, BSA looked like a sure winner.
On stage , he never looked as good.
Howard, think Rory should have beaten Paris at the 83 USA's. Look at the video. BSA was a monster in person. Saw him at the 03 Nationals, talked to him. Nice guy in person.

in modern bodybuilding Belknap beats rory everyday and thats why the sports regressed so much, Belknap was Branch in another era and couldn't break into the top pro ranks, Branch won shows. Modern bodybuilding sucks.

Bumping this topic again. Everybody should be looking at Rorys recent instagram video post that is 4 photos in. From a few days ago....Rory training triceps at 61 years old....looking happy and looking like a boss. Few bodybuilders in the world looking like him at 61...and not looking like he is taking jack shit juice wise. Even Coach will agree that Rory has got a solid base that cant be touched and at best...maybe...taking 200mg of therapeutic test a week.

The guy looks better still at 61 years old than 90% of all the guys that were pros in the 80's and 90's.....so who is the real winner???? Rory for sure. Totally agree, a pro card doesn't guarantee a good income and most of us never started training to ever earn one, training and looking good and healthy in his 60s is a far greater result than what most 80s 90s pros are now doing if they aren't 6 foot under

Excellent point. And it might even be the case with some of these guys, that NOT getting the card may have made them live longer.....
