Great historic photos but also a bit weird: this guy basically was a story teller.
Like he was selling a fairy tale.
Fine if it was a very positive fairy tale, but odd nonetheless.....

Gay atheist Alan Turing invented the computer. You know... the device you use to show us all that "God" has a sense of humor for creating down looking manlets with only one brain cell.

Not what I meant but it doesn’t surprise me that it would go over your head.
So you're saying helping to create the computer didn't "better the world"
how about cracking the code of the Nazi Enigma machine which historians have estimated shortened the war by two to four years and saved an estimated 14 million to 21 million lives. Prime Minister Winston Churchill said Turing’s work was the single greatest contribution to Allied triumph.
How's that compare to anything Billy Graham did or you for that matter
-
More proof that liberal/atheists are the most miserable people on the planet.
It's fundies like you that bought into the idea you're a "sinner" and you need to be "saved"
Even funnier, the thing you need to be saved from is the your own make believe god who will condemn you to eternal suffering if you don't believe in it and accept it as your saviour
Can't get much more miserable than that death cult

Actually it’s more of insecure atheists that start. Bottom line is people hate to hear the truth about anything. I’m outspoken. They hate that. They can suck a dick. Period.
But the short answer is my political stance. Most of the respondents in this thread are atheist/liberals

You've been repeatedly and thoroughly warned. Lets hope you have at least another day of life in order to make a change and turn to God. Right now you are absolutely hellbound and that should terrify you but in your suppression and hatred of the God (that you know exists) you adopt arrogance and obstinance and filth. Make a change today.
This will be my last plea to either of you permanently.

I’m a right-wing atheist who cherishes Christian values.
P.S. An animal’s worth is every bit as great as mine, mind you. Doesn’t mean I won’t eat the fucker. Just like I don’t hold a grudge against an animal who gets hold of my muscular ass and chows down on me.

Even funnier: 99% of religious people aren't even aware that their parents made them christian or muslim or whatever. It usually is not a free choice. Religion is forced upon children by their parents.
In every religion mom and dad tell their kids that their god is the real one. The god other religions believe in is a faker!
Imo it's better to protect kids from religion and let them choose for themselves when they are 21 years old, if they want to believe in something

My Roman Catholic parents raised me ... Roman Catholic (Sunday School, the whole bit). Both paternal and maternal sides go back with the RC into the forever.
So? ...
Oh, yeah. That’s right: My mind is more powerful than yours is. It was able to overcome brainwashing and re-assert reality and truth as its dominant operating system.

Valid point but the opposite end of the arguement is that you don't know what happens either..
And what do we do with the testimony of people who were clinically dead and were brought back?

Catholicism is based on "Christian principals" but it's a completely man made institution that Jesus didn't establish, no different than David Koresh and the Branch Davidians.

I also understand that there must be an amount of fear of the uknown. I have it. For some people, religion is soothing it.
I just dislike the hidden agenda with most quacks, preachers, priests and so on.

Enjoy your time replying with me. My days on GB are coming to a permanent close....so drink it in now!!
So essentially we're all in agreement. Parents of one sort attempt to raise their children to adopt the same values. Christians raise Christians, atheists raise atheist, RCs raise RCs, etc.....
Although, I have a cousin that was raised by my Christian aunt and uncle. He's chosen to become a hellbound atheist as he moved to China to teach the language and his Chinese girlfriend then influenced him towards atheism.
But, point remains that parents attempt to raise their children to adopt their values and beliefs the vast majority of the time. None of this a secret or exposes the foundations of people's beliefs. The vast majority of us are influenced by our parents. Some choose to follow their parents and others do not.
I can provide tons of examples of people not raised in religious homes that became religious people and I'm sure the opposite is true as well.
-

I'm in agreement.
To add onto this.......I think it's a healthy thing that people HAVE values. I don't care if you're Christian, Islamic, Buddhist, Mormon, etc. As long as you're not an extremist religion is a very healthy thing IMO. It teaches values.
Religion has never been the source of evil. It hasn't caused wars. Religious extremism has.
If everybody is tolerant of others beliefs and cultures we'll be okay as a society. Unfortunately it's something we need to work on and unfortunately some beliefs and cultures are just plain evil.

Here's the thing..
Religions or at least Christianity claims the knowledge of the bible god is written in your heart.. that he reaches out and all you do is answer the knock.. however that doesn't match reality
The reality is, what your parents were as far as religion, is most likely what you will be. I say most likely as not all follow their parents wishes, but most do. Muslim parents are more likely to have Muslim kids than Baptist kids. Church of Christ parents are more likely to have Christian kids than Sikh kids. Who you were born to and where plays a HUGE role in what you end up believing is "The Truth" Look at any religious demographic world map.. hard to argue against it.
It doesn't appear that a spiritual influence of one god or the other is causing this... as it is across the board pretty much whatever you grew up with, that's typically what you will be
That in a nutshell should raise a red flag among critical thinkers
-

Besides, as I’ve said, time and time again, I’m a thorough enemy of ALL organized religion.

Yeah, he and then-President Nixon were caught on tape making anti-Semitic remarks.
I've been a twice-born Christian since 1998, and I never cared for the man myself. I appreciate his devotion, but his cranky style of preaching was off-putting to me.
-
Enjoy your time replying with me.
Youve stated this A LOT.

couldn't blame him. For the hand full of decent and interesting posters there are a slew of gimmicks. Someone doesn't agree with you so they wish your wife raped and your family slaughtered.. really? Man of Steel seems like a decent moral guy..not a lot left here for him.

But getbig has been that way for years and he is still here, despite saying he was going to leave multiple times.

Neither religion no religious extremism caused world war 1 or world war 2.
Blaming wars on religion is just another retarded athiest lie.
BTW the world trade center was not destroyed because of religion - therefore the wars which ensued from that were not caused by religion.

Are you saying there have been no wars due to religion? A couple, maybe 10? Because I really hope you aren't trying to say there have not been many wars over religion
-
Protestantism is based on "Christian principals" but it's a completely man made institution that Jesus didn't establish, no different than David Koresh and the Branch Davidians.

But getbig has been that way for years and he is still here, despite saying he was going to leave multiple times.
I will take your word he has said it more than once. Ive been a member for years.. I understand Getbig is a tough place where generally reasonable people who in real life are cordial and polite, leave that at the door and will bash someone even if they secretly agree with them just for entertainment. I left for a couple years and when I came back I noticed the change. I have the option of staying, focusing on those that actually have an interest in debating something even with "friendly" banter, and ignoring the dirt bags that can't seem to have a rational thought or civil response available to them. Or leaving again. MOS has probably tried to hang in because there is entertainment and comradery but it probably is getting to where it isn't worth it. Mods don't seem to care so leaving probably seems his only option

The Holy Spirit can suck my ass fumes.
I'm now an Atheist. There's no real need to be an assholist. I believe but no longer do but I will not make light of the teachings of the Nazarene or those that lived what he taught. As for Graham, I have no real clue but if he lived against the way that Christ taught, fuck him. If he did as he preached, then good.
If you want to make fun of something worthless, concentrate on Islime and Mormonism for starters.

LOL sorry bro I read agnostic as atheist.

I'd be afraid of bringing my dog to a church for the reason it might get abused.
Just where I live, for the past 30 years there was 20 priests accused of sexual abuse. The area I am talking about is around 500,000 people. This is in the Catholic church that is trying to cleanse itself nowadays.
Now imagine other religions that are more conservative and less open to change. Scum of the Earth descending into a profession of abuse. Horrible!
Maybe we could have not destroyed the Nazis, just let them go through a purifying phase, that'd be Christian...

And in answer to others questions I have wanted to leave on multiple occasions because this board is a basically a cesspool and I have reduced my time on this board significantly.
My wife HATES this board with a passion and honestly so do I. I've spent my time in the last 8 years on this board for the sake of people's souls.
My wife and I are in agreement that my calling to spread the gospel is done here. I know it is too.
My reason for not leaving yet is simple. I need time to collect everything I've written over the years for future use. And from what I understand all I can do is copy and paste page by page of post history until I have everything (or the important stuff).
When that's finished I'll delete my account and be gone permanently. Just don't have time to dedicate to organizing all the posts at the moment, but I'll be making time.
So if we don't speak again God bless.

I no longer believe. I am the same man, just as honest, just as opinionated and the same in every facet save that of faith. But I could no longer believe in what I could not see. If there is a God that would condemn me for that, FTN. I am not a muslime. I am not a murder nor anything else that the Word decries but I am not a believer.
I honor the words of the Nazarene, perhaps more than most "believers" because wisdom should be honored. I have never thought much of popular pastors. To live above the means of the flock is wrong and the majority of such people do just that.

1) how did the conversation between you and your wife go? What did you two specifically discuss?

An Atheist might not but an atheist would. Why? Because an atheist is nothing more than an assholist. Me?
I'm an Atheist and I'm not afraid to admire the good in the Gospel of the Nazarene. A great many assholists are worse than any Christian or christian because they shout their "science" from the depths of the sewer that is their mind. Neil deAsshole Tyson-chicken is a good example of an assholist. So too is the world of science's own "TIMMY!", Stephen Hawkings. Two very bitter little boys who should just STFU and take their toys and bugger off to their lab and discover/create something useful to this world. It's not that have not already done so, but they seem to concentrate more on being the poster twins for assholists.
And just so you know, there is nothing "hilarious" about MoS post. He's a good man. Better than you or me.

Also, in MOS's opinion, which era of Getbig was the most blasphemist?
Also, how does one reconcile his love for men in thongs with being a traditional religious being?

I was thinking Coach and typed MoS. Oops, BFD and sorry. The rest is as I said. None of us knows one another except by the cover of the book we present. And yes, you can judge a book by its cover. If the book screams "Jason Genova!", I ain't buying it. Some might buy it just for the stupid humor but I can get that for free. What is that joke about how do you know an atheist is in the room? Don't worry, they'll tell you.
It's difficult to live as the Christ would have you do. No one is perfect but then no one here is claiming to be. I have always found professional "men of God" (or women) to be anything but. They are just people and if you treat them better than they deserve they begin to think they do deserve it. FTN. God, if he exists, doesn't need your money or your worship. If God is there then he is the self-evident one. He certainly isn't some dumb nebrew fucktard or a white fucktard (e.g. LDS) that is after all the women in the world to knock them up and put you down. I used to say that no one reallyi knows what awaits us at our last breath.
But no amount of worry will change that. What is there will be waiting. It sure as fuck ain't Mormonism or Wiggsian Black BS or islime bullshit to name but three retarded examples of religion. Never put any faith in religion because most, if not all of the rules are man made/influenced. By religion man has committed injustices upon mankind over the centuries. Follow no man and place no one on a pedestal because the moment you do, they will start looking down on you.
In that respect many atheists are as bad as any believer in anything.

I find wisdom in much of what you post about religion. I admire your ability to give leeway to some religions and wonder why when you declare some religions absolutely false but then say an obscure statement that might lead us to believe you think some religions might be ok. I also like that you admire how Jesus lived and taught and recognize that few actually follow his teachings. I wonder, are you atheist or agnostic after reading your posts and I ask this with all due respect.

I was a genuine born again Christian for several decades and then one day, lost my faith. I am now an Atheist. Outcast from all save my immediate family. But I could not believe that God would so love the world that he would allow mankind to muck it up so. Pretty much every evil that can be thought of has been done in the name of religion and I despise "religion". Faith I admire. But I have no faith in man and I could no longer believe that which I could not see nor hear. Men do evil and call it "God's will". FTN. It is man's desire that fuels the flames of hell on earth.
For those that do have a living faith, I admire them. MoS and Butterbean are two good people here or at least as they present themselves. I have never had a problem challenging pastors or people of other beliefs. If you are strong in your faith, you should be able to, not so much defend it, but instead, live it. And that is the key.
The Nazarene put it so. "Go, and sin no more". Never did he say, "Go and sin some more". It is difficult to live as we should, but it is criminal to tell others how to live and ignore those guidelines ourselves. I became more and more disgusted with the behavior of christians (such do not deserve a "C") and atheists are just as bad. John (Reeves here) taught me that Atheists can also be atheists and as he said, assholists too. Being an asshole is normal to a degree but being a whole ass is just plain uncalled for.
I am going way off topic again and need to take my medicine and get some rest. I hope I have made some sense and if not, I will try again some other time.
Have a good one, brother.

Also, how does one reconcile his love for men in thongs with being a traditional religious being?
Yes!
I wonder if MOS and his wife talked about tbombz bunny suit.

I was a genuine born again Christian for several decades and then one day, lost my faith. I am now an Atheist. Outcast from all save my immediate family. But I could not believe that God would so love the world that he would allow mankind to muck it up so.
Sir, you describe a condition which has existed for all known human history. Something which Christianity clearly discusses and explains in it's scriptures and scholarly works.
I am curious how only now, after so many years of being a christian, this well known phenomenon of human evil has ONLY NOW caused you to lose faith?
-
Was he saved?
His last breath on earth was followed by his first breath in Heaven.
It's awe inspiring at the number of people whose lives he changed and saved in such a positive way.
You can scoff and reject at what he believed and preached but so much hate for such a great, great man who did so much good in this world just doesn't make sense to me. Do atheist simply hate religious people across the board? I don't see this on the side of the believers which the majority of this country
still are.
-
I’m a right-wing atheist who cherishes Christian values.
P.S. An animal’s worth is every bit as great as mine, mind you. Doesn’t mean I won’t eat the fucker. Just like I don’t hold a grudge against an animal who gets hold of my muscular ass and chows down on me.
Wait! An animal's life is equal to yours, are equal to humans, yet you will kill and eat them? If humans and animals have the same worth then what is right to do to an animal is right to do to a human.
Would you kill or eat a human? If not you then would you consider it wrong if humans kill other humans for food. If a river rat and a person were drowning and you could save only one what would you do, toss a coin?
To say that an animal has the same worth as you and then kill and eat them is a classic example of cognitive dissonance.

Nope. Neither was it the straw that broke the camel's back. It was just another piece of the puzzle. That puzzle will never be completed and there will be pieces that cause me to think and rethink my choice. but I no longer can believe in something that refuses to show itself.

I just checked Amazon.

Atheists aren't for the most part organized groups that decide what they want to hate. They are simply people that lack a belief in a god or gods.

True, but just as you have some that claim to believe belittle those that choose not to, so too are there atheists that feeeeeeeel it fine and dandy to take any opportunity to belittle those with faith. I have always maintained that none of us really knows what awaits us as the final breath leaves our body. I have no problem accepting I could be wrong but neither will I make a statement such as "It's turtles all the way down!" ;D
It is fine to not know but hold fast to hope. It's also fine to not have hope or faith. I find that aspect of my reality to be quite depressing but it is mine and I will not force it upon others, neither will I dwell upon it for to do so is unsettling at the least, LOL! I did not force the Christ on anyone, why should I now force my emptiness? Pffft! Look at Wiggsian "logic". God is black, the earf is flat and whitey is gonna pay! Who the hell would believe in such a fucked up deity?
Oh yeah...Wiggs An idiot looking for an excuse for his failures.
As for Graham, did he live above the means of his flock? Think about that...If so, fuck him for that. I've had many pastors cite "do not muzzle the oxen while they tread the corn" as an excuse for fleecing the flock. There is much in Christendom that I would think not feel, the Christ would never approve of. But that is the way of man and not the way of the Nazarene. Christ threw the shills out of the Temple but sadly, today these scum own the Temple.

Good riddance

I call those people the "Christ haters" - they CANNOT RESIST the opportunity to pour mocking and hatred on Christians. They are all over the internet like a plague. I don't think they are all athiests, for example a lot of them are Jews. And many of these same "Christ hater" types would be quick to defend Islam.

To be fair, some Christians bring this upon themselves. If Muslims were legislating their religious beliefs, knocking on our doors on Saturdays and discriminating against people I'm sure they would be getting beat up as well. I'm referring to the US.

When was the last time, or ever, that a Christian has knocked on your door? Even Mormons don't do that anymore. And how are Christians legislating against people?

Mormon's still ride bicycles around town and Jehovah's Witnesses still like to give pamphlets out and talk to you. And yes, they still knock on your door.

& Hitler Jew was months away from completing his atom bomb ;)

Yes, Mormons still ride bike around town. So what? I ride my bike around town. Jehovah Witness still give out pamphlets. So what? I was approach twice by girl scouts today selling their cookies. I was approached by someone to sign a petition to get air conditioners in every classroom in public schools. Every group is looking for support.
But back to the original question in response to the comment about Christians: when was the last time a Christian ever knocked on your door? I've been a Christian my whole life and never did we, or were we encouraged to, to go door to door. It's now how main stream Christians operate.

Christians knocked on your door at least once a month? What church/denomination did they represent?
Funny, I've never had a Christian knock on my door once in my entire life. Nobody I know ever has.
I just called a cousin who lives in Austin and asked him if a Christian every knocked on his door and he me told nobody; no Christian, Mormon, Jehovah..., has ever knocked on his door. Yet your door gets
knocked on once a month. Even Jehovah witnesses don't keep going door to door in the same neighborhood every month as that would be a waste of time, unless you are implying different Christian denominations are hitting you up every single month -- "at least"!
Is there anybody on this thread that can honestly say that they have had a problem with Christians repeatedly knocking on their doors?

Cedar Park and Leander Tx. LDS in white shirts and black ties on bikes. About once a month... could have been 6 weeks on occasion but often enough the people on my cul de sac would comment on which one of us was so bad it kept them coming back

And back to the original premise of "Some atheist/Agnostics bite back at Christians because they often bring it on themselves by legislating their religion into laws, forcing their religion on them at government meetings, sporting events and various other venues outside of church. If Christians just lived their life as they were supposed to and not infringe on others with their personal religious beliefs, they wouldn't get so much blowback "

Mormons are not Christians. They're not even christians. It's a cult and while it can be argued that a cult is nothing more than a religion without political power, they are a fucking cult. Joseph Smith was a fucking pervert. Same with Brigham Young. Typical liars after the pussy and they didn't care where they got it from. Theirs is a doctrine of fucktards.
Trust me on this. They do not now nor have they ever followed the Nazarene.

OK, so now we've gone from "at least once a month" to four to six weeks.
My friend, I do not believe you are being intellectually honest. No one, including yourself, thought of Mormons when you made your original claim. Whether one regards Mormons as Christians or not they are not the mainstream Christians of Judeo/Christian roots. No one bemoans the disproportionate influence that Mormons have on our culture which is negligible.
I live on the Windward side of Oahu where Laiea is located which is Mormon country. They own a good portion of the property in that city and is home base for the LDS. I constantly see Mormons in the dress pants, white dress shirts and tie, biking and walking in the hot Hawaii climate. Though I do not subscribe to their theology I am a big fan of Mormons as they are exceptionally well behaved and decent people. While most of their peers are getting drunk, high and trying to get laid while wasting their parent's money these young men are out there on their missions practicing and promoting what they believe in.
I am far less concerned about what a person believes than how they behave and I always greet them with a "Hello Elders" whenever I encounter them and don't mind having a brief discussion with them. I am more interested in them as a person than they're religion and try to get info on their background.
The LDS are an extraordinarily successful organization and a lot of thought and planning goes into how they run their affairs. Yes, part of their mission of the Elders is to convert as many as possible so it does not comport with common sense that they would keep going to the same area over and over again. It would be a waste of time.
I've seen your userid pop up from time to time but haven't really payed close enough attention to determine your worldview and politics though "agnostic" was a good hint. But now, as is usually the case with leftist, you betray yourself. In a debate and/or discussion, people on the Left are far less concerned with clarity, truth and what works in real life. They are primarily concerned with promoting their agenda. It's happening now with the renewed efforts to ban "assault weapons" something that was already done for ten years and deemed insignificant. But facts and real world results don't matter. Only what makes you feel better and make you think you are doing something significant.
Your anti-religion bias is crystal clear and you will make up, actually lie, just to promote your agenda.
No one is knocking on your door.

I'm basing that simply on my experience with Christians. There are many here that say they are Christian but don't act like it. There is only hate in their posts. The bible says you will know them by their fruit. If someone is hateful, antagonistic, closedminded, very good chance they will be standing at the gate thinking "What the fuck?" The road is narrow.. Matthew 25 the parable of the sheep and the goats is a good read for those wondering if they will be accepted.

There is a general world wide consensus as to what is a Christian Group and what is a CULT.

The term itself is controversial and it has divergent definitions in both popular culture and academia and it also has been an ongoing source of contention among scholars across several fields of study.

No I am not.
Examples :
2 - live by these rules or else AFTER death you will be punished or rewarded. Yeah, wait until people die so they can't come back and tell everyone it is a crock of shit.
3 - Talking snakes, cloning another gender from a rib, Noah's Ark, dividing a sea, returning from the dead... this complete absence of free thought. Things that are scientifically proven to be impossible, but just ignore that and buy into the fairy tale. Don't be realistic, don't form your own opinion... follow the opinion of uneducated superstitious men a thousand years ago.
4 - Uhhh? Wanting to put "God" back into schools? Politicians claiming they follow God's Law and not the Constitution or state/federal laws. How many parents asked their children if they wanted to go to church before hauling them along with them when they go?

Bro I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience with the Christian religion. It sounds like you were exposed to some horrible teaching and it's lifestyle.
Point 2 was on unquestioning obedience, which biblically speaking isn't true. Even Jesus questioned God in the garden asking that He not have to go through with the "cup of suffering". We know that Jesus did fulfill his purpose, but even He questioned God. Any other biblical account deals with man questioning God or asking for alternatives. The God of the bible is loving and gracious. He doesn't have a list of do this, this and this or you're damned.
3. This point is based on point 1 of blind faith. The whole concept of a man being formed from dirt, a virgin birth and being risen from the dead is also a tough idea to grasp. That said we know today that via artificial insemination we can have a virgin give birth, people have been brought back from clinicall death, and we also know that the 59 elements found in the human body are all found on the earth crust (as opposed to elements from the earth core).
I understand what you're saying but science can also be used to prove biblical accounts.
4. Forced indoctrination is more of a political move. Jesus never forced himself onto others. He didn't try to overthrow Rome or establish an earthly kingdom.
Children don't get to choose in life period. None are asked where they want to live, if they want to go to school, what kind of diet they should have.....going to church is an extension of this.
Politicians play off of the emotions of the simple. Republicans will eliminate abortions, Democrats will out law guns; nothing changes.

Hang on now... I am not basing my points on the religion itself solely via it's principles or "tales". I am basing it on the very foundation of it existing in the first place and the actions of followers in the past and in modern times.
2 - unquestioning obedience. You have to follow his words precisely. But he doesn't. You can't kill, but he can murder all his children if he wants. Abortion is immoral, yet God participating in abortion by striking the fruit from the womb of women of the people who displeased him, etc..
3 - artificial insemination and returning from clinical death are more on account of science and technology than "God".
4 - Indoctrination - when people want God in schools, it is usually just their God. They only want students exposed to the deity they claim to follow.
The part in bold is exactly what I am getting at. God doesn't say anything. Not a single part of the Bible is God's true word. It is man's interpretation of God's word on how he WANTS it to be which as evidence always suggests, when God wants someone to do something, it always appears to be the case that the action was what that person wanted to do in the first place. Funny how God's Will always seem to align with what that person's opinion or choice is anyway.
Now Jesus did have teachings. Which again, as evidence shows, his so called followers sure don't follow themselves.

Maybe compared to you but not to many others here. I have an average (if that) IQ but I also have a sense of humor.
Something you seem to lack. But, I was Christian and now am not. I am honest. Go ahead, fuck with the faith and I may step in and make you look worse than a mirror in the morning.
I despise fake followers of the Nazarene but perhaps even more, those that hate the Christ, who was the most complete man to walk this earth, for no
other reason than his words show them who they are. Nah. Both sides of that coin are pussies.

Wow. We've really opened Pandora's box. Have you ever sought treatment/therapy? Nothing to be ashamed about. I would at least go that route before hopping on meds.

Wow. You really are a fucking moron. What? Never expected to be called on your shit? I'm honestly surprised, albeit mildly so, that you seem to know who Pandora was. I do question the term "box" used by you along with "Pandora". Do you think it means "vagina" or "mangina"?
Given your obvious idiocy, I am guessing both as you're doubtless a man of the world. You know, like Wiggs. Let me be blunt (no, not a marijuana cigarette or a talentless "singer"), you can make fun of the Nazarene all you want, I will just point out the obvious about you and your simplistic suppositions regarding him.
And one more thing. You were too skeered to look in that mirror, huh? It's because it is your personal picture of Dorian Gay. Oh. That's a play on "Dorian Gray", not Dorian Yates. I recommend you have your mom read it to you but only in the daytime. It might frighten you.
"Have you ever sought therapy"...How original. How unique. How pathetic. Given your wonderful economy with words, you must be a real bodybuilder.

can there not be a different category? Can you not be non christian and NOT hate the biblical Christ or Jesus? The character of Jesus is pretty cool. Unfortunately, with the cherry picking of the biblical Jesus' teaching, many christians have used it for nefarious reasons.

It's not just "christians" that cherry pick, atheists are famous for doing so. Perhaps their favorite quote is the one about "judge not, lest you be judged".
Fuck those idiots. So now we're not allowed to "judge" anyone or anything? No right and no wrong? For this is how these cretins use that passage, to make what they do beyond reproach. Men will do as they please and call it the will of God when reality is that it's nothing more than the desire of men.
Christ did not come to call the pure. He said, "Go and sin no more", not "Go and sin some more". As for the definition of a cult, I would say it's a "religion" without political power.
And I have never had a "religion". I had FAITH. Butterbean and MoS both have FAITH. I put no faith in religion for by that term men have long done evil in the name of God. And I put less trust in men. To know why, look in a mirror and reflect upon that which gazes back at you. A man. If we are indeed made in the image of God, we have taken that image and photo shopped the hell, not out of it, but rather into it.
Never follow a pastor, minister or priest. And stay clear of any and all imams and muslime shit. I have said this before but place any man, or for that matter woman, on a pedestal and they will without fail, one day look down on you. Jesus of Nazareth was more than a man. Aspire to live as he taught but expect to fail. Never hide your failures for even if there is no God, there is still one who knows you've lied and that being you.
Enough my friend. It is getting late for me. Have a good evening, brother!

He doesn't have a list of do this, this and this or you're damned.

can you rephrase your question or position? It sounds like you are trying to declare the song "Give me that old time religion" was inaccurate and for some reason you think Christianity isn't a religion. Which by the way is totally indefensible.

What the fuck? This is the stupidest thing you have ever said. Which given the stupid shit you say every day, it's saying a lot.
Since when is Christianity a faith?
Good Lord <--- literally, you are dumb as gnat shit.

There are a lot things that could be considered "Religion" including atheism. When I say Christianity isn't a religion, what I'm saying is I don't subscribe to any organized "Religion" such as a denominational Church. I am by definition a Non-denominational Christian. What you and dimwit, Lurker are suggesting is that (from what I'm understanding) you must belong to an organized Church and follow the practices of that Church.
I'm not going drag this thread out because I'll just become neverending.

No, atheism can't be considered a religion. It's like saying people who don't believe in Santa could be a religion. When you say Christianity isn't a religion, you're just ignoring the fact it is.

all of reality demonstrates a creator, creating 2 types
1 those who comprehend reality
2 the blind

But then again since you are a false Christian it doesn't matter what your definition of religion is. ::)

Claiming atheism is a religion is simply absurd. It's the way gnat brain idiots like Coach attempt to refute the opposing view point by challenging them to prove a negative. If atheism is a religion, what is it's God? Hell, they can't even prove their Christian god exists and yet want to challenge someone as worshiping a non existing deity. WTF?

When I'm in Fla in Aug I would really like to meet you. You talk A LOT of shit from a distance. But as it stands, you're still uninformed and yes, it can be considered a religion. But then again, I'm arguing with an atheist liberal who's never got it right.

Science? ???

You are proof that simply breathing oxygen must be an autonomous reflex. You can't be that dumb and still be capable of sustaining basic life functions on your own with that one brain cell.
I thought your claim that there was scientific evidence that prayer works was the dumbest thing you ever said.... I guess not. Then again, what kind of religion could it be if your God saw fit to make a whining manlet with such a vast level of stupidity? What did you do to piss him off? Or is this just a test for you?

Doesn't matter though. At least for you. Fake Christians don't mean shit in the long run. More worm food.

The bible teaches Many are called but few are chosen Matt 22:13 and the Sheep and the Goats Matt 25:31-46
31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
And people like Coach think they have a shot ::) Coach and most professed Christians are goats.. but the thing is, not one single goat knows or thinks they are a goat. So if the bible is true, the jokes on them

Coach started back in 2013 that there was documented proof of prayer working.
1800's studies? K. There's also documented proof that prayer does work. When I get to a computer tomorrow, I can post a few.
Then a couple of years ago, he was trying to sound smart and more convincing......
(pause for a minute to finishing laughing)
... he claimed there was scientific proof that prayer worked. ::)
Obviously, prayer certainly hasn't worked out very well for him. God must have a strange sense of humor it seems or else God has made Coach a very special example of what happens when people displease him and incur his wrath. Of course, God is not without grace it seems and has made Coach so stupid that he doesn't realize God is punishing him.

There have been studies or at least a study where the results of prayer regarding recovery seemed to have a positive impact. This can be considered a placebo effect but a study does exist inferring it helps. Now I think you and I can agree there is no evidence that a spiritual entity is answering those prayers.

Well, it goes hand in hand. The problem is the atheists on here dont even believe in the existence of Jesus even though there’s a mountain of evidence that shows otherwise. As far as Billy Graham, how many atheists in this thread were not just happy that he died, but actually made fun of it? Only the atheists would do this. You have to ask yourself why.

You won’t, but you can start with the The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel. The audio is better but you won’t take 10hrs out of your life to watch, read or listen so why bother.

I've read that probably twice. And Evidence that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell. More than a Carpenter as well.
-
Do you have a mountain of evidence or a list of christian apologist books? There is a difference
-
I was a died in the wool christian growing up. Even gave sermons on occasion as a guest at my local 1st Baptist Church. Would drive my friends nuts because on Sunday they wanted to be at the lake, I wanted them to be at church. In my 30's I read a list of Christian books with the idea of bolstering my faith with the evidence. But my 30 year old brain reading the books took a different view than my 15 year old brain. So eventually, after about a year of reading books supporting Christianity, I read opposing views. Did you even know there was a rebuttal to Evidence that Demands a Verdict, called The Jury is In? The authors took all the "evidence and claims" McDowell had provided, and offered refutations. Interesting stuff
-

I don’t think you have. If you did you would know that I the first chapter, as a non-believer and a journalist with a legal background he broke the evidence down by Examining the record first, eyewitness evidence, documentary evidence, corroborated evidence, scientific and rebuttal evidence. That’s the first chapter

The truth is most people are just that. People. The problem is leadership. Most pastors, priests and the like fleece the flock rather than feed it. As for non belief being a "religion"? It's nothing more than a belief (sounds like "faith" to me) that there is nothing awaiting us. No God. No Jesus. No fucktard allah and hoMohammed. No Buddha. No turtles all the way down. Nothing.
We Atheists can be even bigger assholes than others because, as the joke goes, how do you know who the Atheist is in a crowd? Don't worry, they'll tell you. Many of us whine like pussies when mention is made of the fact that many of our laws are based on Judeo-Christian guidelines. Get over it, kids. You'd think some of us were vampires because we can't go past a cross without getting "offended". Those same atheists will not say a fucking word against a crescent moon or a fat Buddah. Go figger. Pussies, I tell ya.
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I suggest you throw them straight up so that they can fall back on top of your dumb ass. In like fashion, let he who is without faith, STFU. Let he who has faith remain silent in word but in living verify that faith. Did not the Nazarene implore that anything you do in his name, do so in silence. Your reward is from the father and not in the form of the adulation of men. Hollyweirdos are all for the latter. They even have awards shows to kiss each others ass.
In closing, keep this in mind. None of us truly knows what is waiting for us, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. If not, the consider this. Some folk believe in Karma. I rarely hear atheists make fun of that belief. That's because most of us are assholists that only get their hackles up where a deity is concerned. If I were to believe in anything it would be in the goodness of the Nazarene. In truth, one can recognize that without believing he was He.
Most atheists refuse to do so. I am not them. I am an Atheist.

I don’t think you have. If you did you would know that I the first chapter, as a non-believer and a journalist with a legal background he broke the evidence down by Examining the record first, eyewitness evidence, documentary evidence, corroborated evidence, scientific and rebuttal evidence. That’s the first chapter
Ok, here is the deal, as a person with a legal background of sorts myself, I could easily identify the flawed arguments from a false premise. For example, if I start off saying, "We all know we had to have come from some creator: then set out to state something else, I've already broken a couple rules. When I read Case for Christ (At least twice) I was seeing the set up very clearly. Thing is, I read the book years before, and because I was predisposed to agree with the author, I never noticed.

I don't believe in karma. Too many examples of it not coming around to believe there is any consistency to it.

One can lose their faith without losing who they are.

I am curious, why do you think I would lie about reading Lee Strobel? I am an avid reader and have read many apologist books. I'm interested in what the truth is.. Just because I didn't find it a stunning revelation like you apparently did doesn't mean I didn't read it. Here is a book I recommend for you.. Losing Faith in Faith by Dan Barker. About an evangelist who ended up being an atheist. Interesting read even if you don't agree.

I would say that it is because this is the interwebs. As such, it can be difficult to take people at face value. Especially when they often have two or more of them.
Enough for tonight, my friends. ;D

You’re judging by a SMALL (minuscule if you will) part of it. If you read it (I suggest you download the audio version) what about the archeology that coincides with scripture? You’re only taking excerpts. Your not even taking in the apologetics of it.
-
Ok, I’ll also recant. I think you only read portions of it.

well that's a start. The fact is, I read it cover to cover. It's been about 20 years ago. I re read it at my brothers request who I really respect. I just saw the flaws in the arguments and the conclusions from those flawed arguments. Ironically, he refused to read any book that was anti bible but wanted me to read all the pro bible books. I also read Evidence that Demands a Verdict when it first came out.. Thought it was irrefutable. When I re read it years later I was almost embarrassed by the obvious flaws.

No, I've read the whole book.. and looked at opposing opinions on every claim strobel had.. to me, the opposing views had more solid evidence to support it than Strobel did

I'm glad we had an opportunity to discuss it in a civil manner. I appreciate it.

Fair enough. Now if you still have the book, read pages 270-288. “Reaching your own verdict” (yes, it allows you to draw your own conclusion) to “Citations” to the “notes”. 1998 version

For sure. This is always a better way

This is because you have more in common than you realize. Celebrate those things instead of any differences and you will be able to learn to disagree in an agreeable manner, my friend.
This does not mean you have to accept what you hold to be wrong and the same goes for the "other" side of any argument or disagreement. It means that sometimes our minds are like a diaper. The only one that can stand to change it is the owner.
Or they can continue to live in (sh)it. ;D
I think you have all had enough of me lately, huh? ;D

I discuss the bible and beliefs 99% of the time in a civil rational manner. I tend to let the other person dictate the direction it goes. As long as it's a sharing of opinions and doesn't sink to insults and name calling I can discuss it for hours. It is intriguing to me on many levels.

Yes, you do and that is what is needed. ;D Well stated and true!
Me? I despise stuff like LDS and Islime to name but two false faiths and have no problem calling them such. And I don't really mind a bit of humor. We are human after all. With all that entails, both good and bad.
Again, well said and thank you!
