When you take steroids to bodybuild you realize quickly how effective they are. They can transform a physique really quickly. Those that dispute this are buying crap on the black market from the trunk of a pusher's car. Legit steroids work amazing. I defy any gym rat that never used to try one real Anadrol 50 a day and not see a drastic difference in four weeks. Making a point. No I'm not advocating taking drugs.
Having said this we have to talk about the mental aspects of using. When on you feel confident and aggressive. It has an anti depressant effect and your sense of well being will be apparent. Every drug has both a positive and a negative. The negative is that when you go off you will start to feel meek, nervous and maybe even depressed. Guys know this is coming and try to counter it with low dose steroids. Some even use stuff like clomid and HCG. The negative problems are further compounded by your own testosterone being shut down. The flood of exogenous hormones causes the pituitary to shut down LH hormone. LH hormone is the hormone that signals your balls to make testosterone. Another problem is that your body can increase estrogen though aromatase.
We all know bodybuilding is a sport based on drug use. Users like to rationalize their own use away by saying all sports use. That's not true but it makes their ego feel better. The health problems alone should make a rational man pause and say, " Is this really worth it? Is the risk to health for temporary muscles a fair trade?" We all know guys that go from a zero to a hero through the syringe in 5 weeks then in the same year look like crap.
Three major problems with steroids is the increased risk of cardio vascular disease, prostate enlargement and damage to tendons due to rapidly increased strength. One study on testosterone hormone replacement found an increase risk of hearth attacks and strokes. Preliminary scientific speculation was that it was changing the viscosity of the blood making it thicker. Steroids can also increase blood pressure. After that study came out I speculate there were studies disputing it no doubt paid for by the testosterone replacement pharmaceutical companies. Getting back to prostate enlargement prior to the making of the first anabolic steroid dianabol the Russian Olympic lifters were injecting straight testosterone in doses so high some had to use catheters to pee. Dianabol was created to get the anabolic effects of testosterone while minimizing the androgen effects.
The reason why I am writing this is put some sense into some of you young guys. Spending 2K on drugs to place 3rd in some two bit contest that will give you a piece of crap on your shelf is foolish. Taking steroids, anti estrogen, GH, insulin, speed, HCG, diuretics and other stuff is insanity to walk around with temporary muscles to scream to the little boy in your brain that, see, I'm a man. Do what you want. I remember in my early 20's going to a doctor for a throat infection and he looked at me and said you have a lot of muscle. Then he said that's more food for the worms when you die. I was really pissed off that this pencil neck doctor who was a runner insulted me. Now with maturity I think I understand what he was trying to say. If health isn't a consideration then the illusion of health with muscles is a lie.
Train naturally. You won't be able to win 9th place in a Mr. Podunk contest but it will be real. You actually can be in shape year round with some peaks here and there. Maybe when you reach 55 you won't be pulling a wrinkled picture out of your wallet of yourself on stage in your hero days showing someone while they look at your pot belly fat body in front of them. Most of the guys I knew that competed in the early 1980's quit training. One said that training without the assist is a waste of time. That is sad. Most quit due to health, finances and even arrest.

Exactly. This guy comes to my gym, does some Mickey Mouse exercises and kardio and leaves after 45 mins not even breaking a sweat. He trains like shit while natties are huffing and puffing, doing some heavy shit and end up walking around with 15 inch arms at most yet his physique smokes them. You can literally train like a girl and with legit gear you’ll hold far more muscle than any natty.

Great post

Excellent post.

It’s sad, most people who use steroids are addicted.
They take it for their whole life and can’t get off because they cant look at their body without it being enhanced.
-
what are your thought about low dose test ( 150-200 mg) per week at 40 years old and upwards ?

What a man can not say “NO” to, he becomes a slave to it

Yes you grow a mental depencancy on them as I understand. Not only for the size but like you said the change in confidence and well being feel. Steroids are very much addictive is my observation. My problem is the negative health aspects. Plus it doesn't seem to enhance your intelligence, it's the other way around, at a certain treshhold higher test seems to make you dumber. That would be my biggest concern, the mental effect.

This entire post should be hanging on the wall inside every LA Fitness men's locker room.
I have a close, personal friend who's been running gear for the last 32 years. He's 52yo. Even though his BP is always normal, and his blood work comes back looking fairly good, I'm really afraid he's not going to live past his 80's if he continues this self-destructive path. I'm going to to show this to him, and see if I can get him to come off before it's too late.

Blood work isn't everything. How about stuff like resting heart rate and how quick your heart rate comes down after exertion? The heart is one muscle no bodybuilder cares about. Casey Viator told me all his blood work came back great. A few short years after our correspondence he was dead of a heart attack.
Will all users have problems? I will answer no. It's like the smoker that rationalizes using his uncle who smoked till he died at 83 as an example how the threat to health is over blown. Is it a risk to health? Damn straight it is.

Romano looks very average.
Needs to up the dose.
So does the old guy.
Why are these guys even bothering?

Theres use and abuse. I have to say starting trt has been one of the best "health" decisions I've made in my life. The quality of my life has dramatically improved. Better recovery, fuller/rounder muscles (specifically delts), more energy, more agression in the gym, increased libido (I feel like a 22 year old), overall just more zest for life. This winter I added 100mg deca for 10 weeks and this summer I added 100mg of Anavar for 10 weeks, all prescribed all monitored by a doctor. I feel amazing! Oh and 10mg edible marijuana before bed. This health/longevity cycle I will stay on for life. I'm not chasing a $5 trophy I'm chasing living my best possible life.

What's Anbar?
Isn't it a province in Iraq?

what are your thought about low dose test ( 150-200 mg) per week at 40 years old and upwards ?
If needed, and monitored and healthy, I doubt there are many issues w/ it. The TRT studies that say "bad for heart" are done on older gen-pop, out of shape, unhealthy fat guys.
100-125 mg is more like TRT (rather than 200). Get bloods run, get cardiac calcium scoring done (arterial plaque x-rays), eat right, do your cardio, keep your test in "high normal" range, etc.
I think it was Joe or Shizzo who told me to "keep doing your steroids". Like I'm a druggie doing prescribed TRT. (It's like calling a 1 drink a week person an alcoholic).
I trained for 38 years natty before getting on TRT at age 50, gained zero weight, gained zero strength on it. (TRT). So just do your home-work, if youa re low and feeling like shite, go see a Dr. who's knowledgeable in TRT.
Got my cardiac calcium scan done last week, waiting for results now... I think the misfit Andrew Collura said he just scored in the 600's. (Decades of d-bol use). Not good...
Zero: No plaque. Your risk of heart attack is low.
1 - 10: Small amount of plaque. You have less than a 10 percent chance of having heart disease, and your risk of heart attack is low.
11-100: Some plaque. You have mild heart disease and a moderate chance of heart attack. Your doctor may recommend other treatment in addition to lifestyle changes.
101 - 400: Moderate amount of plaque. You have heart disease and plaque may be blocking an artery. Your chance of having a heart attack is moderate to high. Your health professional may want more tests and may start treatment.
Over 400: Large amount of plaque. You have more than a 90 percent chance that plaque is blocking one of your arteries. Your chance of heart attack is high. Your health professional will want more tests and will start treatment.

did you ever use?

All the cons of using out weigh the pros to me. I’m natural but I’m very comfortable with the way I look, I’m open to TRT when I’m older though.

What’s the point?

Even though his BP is always normal, and his blood work comes back looking fairly good, I'm really afraid he's not going to live past his 80's if he continues this self-destructive path. HAHAHAHA!

Based on reading their posts I’m assuming the OP and Coach are probably about the same age.
Who would you rather look like?
-
OK,I`m gonna catch lot of flack for this, butI`ve had very little in the way of repucussusions regarding my gear use.
Never used exhorbatant amounts except for brief periods during contest prep.
Then Again I trained natty for years and ate an impeccable diet for he most part very consistantly for very long periods of time.
In other words,I wasn`t a relyer on the juice and came off quite regularly.
I feel great at 64 and have a few health problems not due to usage I might add.
Haven`t been able to train for some time now due to these complications, but still look decent and if I decided to make a competitive comeback at 64 I swear I would kick ass........I look way better than most guys in general and most guys competing over 60 just suck compared to me.........I sill look younger than my years.
Thinking of training light and to see if I can still make progress.........if so,who knows I may don the thong again and trust me,I won`t embarrass myself in the least.
Not advocating it at all as I feel it is a personal choice but my liver is fine with no visible lesions or scarring...liver enzymes are perfect, and I`m a recovered alcoholic and rec drug user to boot.

Hopfully you`ll get there brother!

Wes - how dare you talk about sensible drug usage. Everyone knows that if you use AAS you are a no good junkie like ( you know who-🤪)
I totally agree with you. The use of aas should be a choice. I’ve had zero negative health impact but like you stated I have not really been excessive. There were a few times 20-25 years ago where I increased a little but still was doing a tiny amount compared to number I hear thrown around.

Wes you were a lucky guy back then with having access to Brontosaurus meat and Pterodactyl eggs

Hmmm.
"In 1954, Ziegler went with his York buddies to the World Weightlifting Championships in Vienna, Austria, as the team’s doctor. Ziegler watched as the Soviets hoisted ungodly amounts of steel. Like any red-blooded American, he was leery of the Russians, whose physiques he found suspiciously hairy and outsized. “Some of the competitors, even young ones in their 20s, needed to be catheterized in order to urinate,” he later told the Los Angeles Times. That story about the Soviets having to catheterize their athletes comes from a Los Angeles Times interview from February 1984 ,almost thirty years after the events. That was at the time when the Eastern Bloc was boycotting the LA Olympics and the use of sports in the service of Cold War propaganda was in full swing.
Still, prostate enlargement and having to catheterize oneself to pee must be pretty commonly observed phenomenon among bodybuilders and powerlifters. Is it?
It certainly does seem to indicate very heavy abuse of testosterone -and corresponding increases in muscularity, strength and power-among the Soviet athletes in 1954 .
Given what we now know natural weightlifters(for example, the American weightlifting team lead by Bob Hoffman of York Barbell fame) would be at a profound disadvantage competing against these lifters.
Yet,if we look at the results of the 1954 World Weightlifting Championship ,we see the US weightlifters almost neck and neck with the Soviets(3 Gold medals to 4) .We see American Olympic Gold medalists, like Pete George and Tommy Komo, beating the Soviets into silver place.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1954_World_Weightlifting_Championships (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1954_World_Weightlifting_Championships)
Seems ,we may conclude American weightlifters back then were that good that they could-completely natural- outlift heavily juiced up Soviets in the three Olympic lifts: the Olympic press, clean and jerk and snatch. :o

Sad but true. Lee priest has been on roids for the past 30 years. Even though he looks bloated and tired. He rather die than come off and look like a tiny meatball.

I've never seen someone who has never used be so obsessed with aas.
You are definitely one who should stay far away from them.

LOL! I see what you did there.
-
That’s a moronic statement.
Not really. There aren't many musclebound scientists, inventors, mathematicians and engineers.
-
Stallone has been on roids and gh for decades. He's 73 years old. The average life span is 72 and a lot of those at that age are in nursing homes. There's no way Stallone would have had the career and success as an action star without PEDs. There is not way he would be doing what he is doing now and having the quality of life he has without the PEDs. Even if he dies tomorrow of a heart attack it still would have been a great trade off.
Like someone said, "There's use and abuse."

His dosages have probably been pretty mild

Why would anyone take advice from shizzo? That’s beyond laughable haha

You have to decide for yourself.
Personally, I don't like to be addicted to anything, physically or mentally. Steroids are a mental addiction.
Using steroids also requires a lot of screwing around. Injecting, testicular atrophy, medical testing, etc.
For a lot of people they are a gateway drug and they also start taking other drugs. They are a time suck.
You also become self-absorbed and narcissistic, obsessed on your looks. Such narcissism becomes a negative. You may become depressed if you stop taking steroids. Illegally obtained steroids put you in contact with criminals.
Guilt about using steroids and the knowledge that you used drugs to obtain your physique can lower your self-esteem and pride in yourself.

I doubt you’ll understand this but your comment is extremely illogical. Using your line of reasoning one could say “why lift weights - the gains go away if you stop”.

Imagine spending your whole life being obsessed with bodybuilding and never once being thought of as a bodybuilder.
It must be tough for these natty fanatics to live with the internal conflict.

Why do you care so much what other people think about you?
That's a sign of insecurity.
Most people think muscleheads are stupid. So it's not a plus to be thought of as a bodybuilder.

Think about the drugs that doctors want you as you get older sometimes for no apparent reasons just for “precautionary measures” and this is just in therapeutic doses...statins come to mind. Ever been on a statin? After a few weeks it becomes almost debilitating, destroys your liver and if you attempt to train hard can cause rhabdo. Shit, even toe fungus meds are worse than any gear even at therapeutic doses. With that, you have to go in every month for a liver check...fuck
I’ll take my test and Deca over that all day long and I feel 10x better and come back with a cleaner blood panel
-
I self administered trt at age 30 after 15 years off and on prednisone and methotrexate and other meds then finally surgery left me feeling like shit so got tested and test was low. Take a bit more than trt dose usually 250mg to 300mg a week. Was a life changer and will take till I die, even if slightly shortens life is rather have less decent years than be miserable as fuck with low test symptoms.
-

Yes, but it doesn't cost hundreds of bucks to keep lifting.

Are your boners ok on that dose?
I was thinking of starting the same regimen....
Only my boners and sex drive have always been good,I wouldn't want to risk that.
Other than that I would love to try test at that dose.... My life energy, recovery, physique, conn.tissues etc are shit....Confidence too. Would love to try to increase life quality.
Only I'm too afraid of risking the sex life.
-

Even water. There are a number of people who run marathons who are told you should really hydrate. They drink so much water training and during the race they have a heart attack from the dilution of electrolytes mainly potassium. Drink water but don't force it.

yup , use vs. abuse

Yes, but it doesn't cost hundreds of bucks to keep lifting.
If that will put a strain on your finances then you have bigger problems than worrying about you or others taking PEDS.

I've followed your posts since your blasting days.
You're an addict looking for reasons and excuses to stay on. I went through the same phase of cruising, until finally coming off cold Turkey. The same justification of how I am just using and perfectly healthy, when your blood pressure, heart rate and so many other organs are affected by your long term use.
the sooner you let go and accept your natural muscle, the better. Right now you are living a lie, a secret lifestyle and are trying to convince yourself you need TRT as a young man. ;D
A lite tidbit, PCT is all crap and non sense. You lower your dose and come off gradually. The body starts producing testosterone again. It gives me a good chuckle how people believe the body is shut down and you need post drug pills to aid your body in recovery. Before you even come off your body is starting to return to a homeostasis as the ester runs out.

100mg anavar a week so 14 mg per day?

Moderate use of AAS is cheap.... a bottle of test (~3000mg in it) is about 25 $ ... would last for 10 weeks at 300mg / week.
A gym membership is probably more expensive ;)

I don't work out at a gym either. If you get busted with illegal substances you are looking at expensive attorney bills. Why do men think they need to take test and other chemicals to remain a man? You guys act like after 35 you completely disintegrate if you aren't taking test or gh. I am 47 and my sex drive is as strong as ever and my workouts as well. Is a 75 year old man supposed to have as much test as he had at 20? Is that even healthy?

Once you hit 35 it's over.
Without TRT you feminize and turn into a far left liberal wearing a pussy hat.

What kind of sensationalized bullshit is this? As if there's any such thing as straight testosterone LOL as if that's different from testosterone cypionate or suspension world what the fuck ever and there are plenty of guys who were on two or three or four or five or ten grams of testosterone a week who don't have to use a catheter every time they want to take a piss. What absolute fucking bullshit
-
LOW testosterone is linked to increased cardiovascular events FACT
TRT is safe
You can safely run high test with minimal impact on lipids
You cannot safely run high anti estrogens / aromatase inhibitors without a negative impact on lipids
Using one instance or example as a reference to prove a point is not reliable, maybe find a study!
Everything in moderation
We are all going to get old
The patients I see in my hospital with heart failure are obese, hypertensive, diabetic, don’t exercise
The average user only needs to Watch there bp and lipids
-
why do we still talk about this topic on a bbing board ....
if you compete at a higher level - its part of the game/must
if you are older and you do TRT - do it responsible and enjoy your elder years (stop being fat - most are way to fat for TRT) and avoid the anti Es
love your natty body and train your ass off natty too
longer time off - when you go back on = feels amazing - chase that dragon ;D
if your diet sucks - stop wasting gear
avoid the harsh shit - its pointless for 99% of people
who cares if a fitness model user gear - they are paid to look good - fake natty comments are pointless
some respond better to PEDs than others -

Sounds like bullshit studies that will be debunked in the future just like the food pyramid. I've known of dozens of really old men over 90 and had a grandfather who live to 104 years old and none of them even knew what TRT was let alone used it. Just in bodybuilding alone we can name numerous 40 to 60 year old competitors who died from heart attacks. Someone should have told Matarazzo how healthy he was by taking test. Dearth and Piana should still be running around as pinnacles of health but where are they?
Just accept the fact that steroid using bodybuilders suffer from body dysmorphia just like an annorexic or bulemic girl. All of this belief that a man "needs" TRT to survive is just delusion. Steroids are just a crutch that you are terrified you can't live without.
-
You really dont need anything other then testosterone and an optional oral.
These dudes on cocktails of esters and drugs are out of touch.
If you cant grow on 200-500mg test then your gear is bunk or you have no idea how to train and eat.

To compare a pro bber with the average gym rat that juices is just not valid. There are so many variables that contribute to poor health and early death. Just carry so much mass is detrimental to your heart and kidneys.
As someone said, "There's use and there's abuse." That applies to everything.
If you are low in test it will lower your quality of life. If you go on TRT to bring your levels back into the normal range it will improve the quality of your life. No amount of proper training and diet is going to compensate for having the Test level of a 10-year-old boy.

Raising testosterone can also raise other things in your body that can reduce sex drive
Prolactin for example
-
Raising testosterone can also raise other things in your body that can reduce sex drive

Correct.
Also.....The non-functioning testicles while on testosterone, can impact erection quality via reduced blood flow to the penis,or via the absence of some other substances that the testicles stop producing......
Happens to some people.
These are one of the possible explanations.

You see many shredded twinks on cocktails of drugs that you would assume are natural but are ON. A novice lifter doesnt need anything more then test if he knows how to eat a surplus.
Your genetics determine the rest. I dont believe going to war and lifting as hard you can is the answer to being big.

Raising testosterone can also raise other things in your body that can reduce sex drive
Prolactin for example
Why does sexual drive kick in during adolescence? Testosterone. It goes up without any prolactin side effects or any side effects for that matter. When you get older it starts to drop along with your sex drive. There is a reference range of around 450-650 that is considered normal. When you drop to around 200 and below so will your sex drive, ability to hold and put on muscle, start to add more fat. Some people are OK with that. If you raise it beyond normal levels for years and years you may have problems. The whole point is that there's a difference in raising your levels to attain the established normal reference range.
What I don't understand is why anybody cares if someone is on TRT. People on TRT don't care that people choose not to bring their levels back to normal. People make their own decisions based on pros and cons. Stallone, The Rock, Arnold, Van Damme wouldn't be where they are if it were not for PEDS. And these guys didn't limit themselves to TRT.

Correct.
Also.....The non-functioning testicles while on testosterone, can impact erection quality via reduced blood flow to the penis,or via the absence of some other substances that the testicles stop producing......
Happens to some people.
These are one of the possible explanations.
An endocrinologist told me that your body can't distinguish between testosterone that comes from your own body or comes from a syringe.

Not sure what it is with these “Natural” Blokes
Either Jealousy or a drum to bang to make an excuse for their mediocrity.
Do they also not Smoke / Drink alcohol/ Not take Prescription meds / Drink Coffee/
Decline anaesthetic when at dentist or having an operation Becuase They Are Natural
And Won’t Cheat By Using Drugs - Or Do their objections & Sanctimonious Morals Go Out The Window.

I remember when I use to work at Vitamin Shoppe, a customer asked me if these products were natural. I smiled and kind of looked around the store, then said, "Well, virtually everything in here are pills, capsules, powder, and liquids." He just kind of looked at me and nodded. I then said, "Come to think of it, the ground that we are standing on, the walls, the clothes we are wearing, even the air we are breathing is not natural."
I never got this worship of nature. As if it is always inherently good. Most everything we do is to combat nature to enhance our survival, productivity, and comfort. We have create things not found in nature to protect us against the environment, feed ourselves, travel,
cure and prevent disease...
The human race has always been omnivores. We survived because of our ability to eat a wide variety of foods. There are no studies that show vegans or vegetarians live longer or have a higher quality of life than those that include meat in their diet. I do believe people who say that they feel better when they switched to vegan or vegetarian. Chance are it's because they just stopped eating a lot of junk food. I also believe people who say they feel great when they eat primarily just meat and protein as with the Keto diet. I also believe people who say they feel great when they follow a balanced diet.
There are a lot of other factors other than diet that are involved in health and quality of life.
