There are some exceptions. John McCain's mother is still alive, having turned 108 last month. Her sister Rowena passed away in 2011, six months shy of her 100th birthday. John McCain's mum:

David was a "starving artist". He tried desperately getting accounts with his interior design and photography to no avail. He recently tried getting a jewelry store account for his photography which he was turned down and he took that very hard.
He was very creative and maybe tried to do too much of everything (interior design, photography, music, shooting movies, poetry ) instead of just concentrating and putting his energy into one thing 100 percent. Who knows why he didn't stick with just shooting bodybuilding/bodybuilders is beyond me. Maybe contracts prevented him from doing this, I'm only guessing. But David had that cutting edge bodybuilding photography and why he didn't run with it is still a mystery.
It seems David was on the spectrum or doing some kind of substance with the way he was acting and also his writing/spelling skills. It was just not spelling mistakes but some of his posts made no sense and he sometimes rambled
I'm not putting David down, I think he was a good man and had a loving heart. He had no animosity towards his ex wife and really loved creating new and different things. If you could get past how he spoke, he truly was a breath of fresh air.

They are more likely to die at around the same time. Like pretty much every Human attribute longevity is a product of genetics and environmental factors (in this case mostly lifestyle). So if one identical twin takes up smoking and the other does not, that will cause a change in life expectancy. So too will differences in diet, exercise, work activities, residential location etc etc etc.

He looked very young and healthy. I guess Vegans aren't as healthy as they think. He was very entertaining and probably smarter than he led on. He was very forgiving considering how his ex wife totally screwed him over. RIP

I am saddened by the passing of one of my dear friends n training partners David Paul...Dave n I met in 1979 and we quickly became close friends...We trained together for several contests prep, he was very positive & extremely strong.
Once, we decided to train at 2 AM for one of my contest preps...I got the keys for the Marina Athletics Club just for us...and when everyone was asleep n snoring, David n I were in a war with the weights... he pushed me way beyond the limit...
We made this decision to train in late hours because I wanted to be extremely focused, didn’t want any outside interference ...David was always there for me n our workouts weren’t your usual workout you normally see @ gyms ...our workouts were very tough, you can say they were complete insanity n torture... the last time I spoke with David was one week ago, he was in good health, we always discussed the most advanced holistic way of living healthy..he really was in fantastic health... I was shocked when I found out about his passing yesterday, I first thought it was just a silly rumor but later it was confirmed....I will miss him and his influence greatly...My condolences to his family and friends... May his soul Rest In Peace

Ric Drasin who worked out with Arnold and Franco for years, and was a wrestler in Los Angeles (on TV) talkd about it once, they tried briefly but didn't have
the FOCUS to develop their wrestling, their minds were always scattered they never showed up or were hours late for practice like it meant nothing to them...

they were originally called "the lumberjack twins" because of how they dressed ( flannel shirts pants work boots etc) they didnt really have much in the leg dept when they first arrived so hiding legs worked good for them. they did eventually build up some legs but never matched their upper bodies. joe weider gave them "the barbarians" name . david was a nice guy eccentric and talented . peter was just crazy . not sure when that happened or the cause. rip david. ( i too feel like peter wont be to far behind him like in the mentzers case)

David was a "starving artist". He tried desperately getting accounts with his interior design and photography to no avail. He recently tried getting a jewelry store account for his photography which he was turned down and he took that very hard.
He was very creative and maybe tried to do too much of everything (interior design, photography, music, shooting movies, poetry ) instead of just concentrating and putting his energy into one thing 100 percent. Who knows why he didn't stick with just shooting bodybuilding/bodybuilders is beyond me. Maybe contracts prevented him from doing this, I'm only guessing. But David had that cutting edge bodybuilding photography and why he didn't run with it is still a mystery.
It seems David was on the spectrum or doing some kind of substance with the way he was acting and also his writing/spelling skills. It was just not spelling mistakes but some of his posts made no sense and he sometimes rambled
I'm not putting David down, I think he was a good man and had a loving heart. He had no animosity towards his ex wife and really loved creating new and different things. If you could get past how he spoke, he truly was a breath of fresh air.

Around the turn of the century I worked out at Gold's Gym Hollywood.
On occasion one of the bros used to come in to workout. From reading this thread it must have been Peter.
The guy always wore the same clothes: long sleeve flannel shirt, tight blue jeans, and heavy workboots.
He had long hair which covered most of his face. But, in looking at his face, it looked odd, like something was wrong. It also looked like there was a lot of heavy make-up on it.
All-in-all, he struck me as being mega weird. Way too weird to even speak to. Which I never did.

As said, I have spent time with both.
My best memory is sitting with David out back Gold’s Venice in his car. His GIANT dog was in the back seat and he was slobbering all over the back of my head as David jammed him and his brothers’ latest music on the stereo.
That one song, “War With the Weights”, was among them.
David was literally singing/screaming along, fists clenched ... “War ... with .. the weights!”
(Or sitting in a restaurant and they were trying to mix a protein shake with a portable mixer they’d built. Kid you not, protein powder was flying everywhere and they were howling just like they’d do it their movies. It WAS NOT an act. I was just sitting there, thinking, This is AWESOME!)
They were hilarious guys. But clearly David was the more “with it” of the two.
To me, it’s painfully obvious Peter’s (I believe some used to call him Pee Wee, as he was the smaller of the two) situation is legitimate mental illness. It’s not an act. He’s gone off his rocker.
As others say, I, too, imagine he will sink even deeper now that David’s gone.
Totally sucks.
They treated me very well the times we hung and were colourful, beyond funny and, yes, intelligent (in their own way).
At one time they were seriously impressive physical specimens, as well.

You are correct. As someone who is trained in psychology (among other things), yes, this is a very common symptom in what we would call classic schizophrenia. The rhyming, the absolute belief in messages from God etc, combined with a total detachment from reality. Hard to know if he also had an paranoid or depressive aspect (I suspect he did). And I am pretty sure it was worsened by use of drugs (most likely simply marijuana). Some would say meth for sure, but cannabis induced schizophrenia can actually produce truly manic and prolonged energetic bursts that can last for many weeks on end.
So yes, that is my diagnosis, and it seems very very obvious to me from the video clips and the rants posted here.

FORTRESS, I've also spent some time with David and Peter and first met them when they joined Gold's in the Santa Monica location which I think that Ken Sprague owned at that time.
Years later we were at the present day Gold's location and Peter asked me to go on a search for Grymkowski because he was worried that Peter was not feeling well due to some serious ailment.
So the search began and after knocking on a number of doors .... we eventually ended up at some restaurant similar to the old bodybuilding hangout called Zucky's where we found Peter in a deep discussion over lunch with a doctor from South America.
We joined in the 20 minute conversation and once that Peter was assured that Pete G. was well and in good hands ... we departed and headed back to Gold's .... but Peter wanted to stop in the vicinity of the original Santa Monica Muscle Beach location and take a short stroll down the beach-walk.
Then he asked me if I realize that he/they had made a recording ... and I said, "Nope!".
And as soon as I said, "Nope!' .... he started singing.Very Loudly!
And a decent size crowd gathered around and gave him a loud ovation when he was done.
And then we headed back to Gold's, but before I departed .. he gave me a copy of that record which I eventually listened to ... and was damn impressed, but somehow it got losted!
I believe I may have mentioned this many years ago on this board, but Keith who was a close friend with each of them would often complain about not receiving return phone calls from one of them and once said that it was a dip-lep-sia problem. (I have no idea what that is .... and can't even spell it correctly.)
Peter G. once said that the best thing he ever did at Gold's (SM location) was .... placing a wooden bench inside the gym right in front of the window ..... as people would come in and sit on that bench and watch the "Barbarian brothers" and many other crazy, hard-core lifters .... and then leave after buying a Gold's Gym T-shirt.
And ... back then ... it was those T-shirt sales which kept the gym in business.

Back in them good old days, I would run into the brothers frequently and it was always a memorial experience.

FORTRESS, I've also spent some time with David and Peter and first met them when they joined Gold's in the Santa Monica location which I think that Ken Sprague owned at that time.
Years later we were at the present day Gold's location and Peter asked me to go on a search for Grymkowski because he was worried that Peter was not feeling well due to some serious ailment.
So the search began and after knocking on a number of doors .... we eventually ended up at some restaurant similar to the old bodybuilding hangout called Zucky's where we found Peter in a deep discussion over lunch with a doctor from South America.
We joined in the 20 minute conversation and once that Peter was assured that Pete G. was well and in good hands ... we departed and headed back to Gold's .... but Peter wanted to stop in the vicinity of the original Santa Monica Muscle Beach location and take a short stroll down the beach-walk.
Then he asked me if I realize that he/they had made a recording ... and I said, "Nope!".
And as soon as I said, "Nope!' .... he started singing.Very Loudly!
And a decent size crowd gathered around and gave him a loud ovation when he was done.
And then we headed back to Gold's, but before I departed .. he gave me a copy of that record which I eventually listened to ... and was damn impressed, but somehow it got losted!
I believe I may have mentioned this many years ago on this board, but Keith who was a close friend with each of them would often complain about not receiving return phone calls from one of them and once said that it was a dip-lep-sia problem. (I have no idea what that is .... and can't even spell it correctly.)
Peter G. once said that the best thing he ever did at Gold's (SM location) was .... placing a wooden bench inside the gym right in front of the window ..... as people would come in and sit on that bench and watch the "Barbarian brothers" and many other crazy, hard-core lifters .... and then leave after buying a Gold's Gym T-shirt.
And ... back then ... it was those T-shirt sales which kept the gym in business.
FORTRESS .... Do you have a copy of that recording mentioned above? Or are you aware of some sort of puppet on a string that one of the bros sold to Disney? (I forgot that story long ago.)

Yeah, in the article I linked, it mentioned both brothers had problems with dyslexia, David terribly so -

I couldn’t read. They put me in school with the retarded kids. In New York, they sent me to these doctors who said that I had the worst case of dyslexia they’d ever seen on the East Coast. So who knows what it really was. Peter didn’t have it as bad. He stayed in public school and got kicked out in 3rd grade. I couldn’t read a word. I went to this Catholic school where there were only five kids in the class. I had nuns for teachers. It was really good for me. There was only English and math. That’s it. No history and all that stuff. I didn’t miss out. I don’t know where anything is on the map, but I never used that anyway. (Laughing.) My mother understood my disability, so she just pushed me towards the arts. I spent a lot of time in art galleries. She got me a camera at 13, and I’d develop pictures in the basement. I was always doing art, building shit. I had a mother who understood."

Brother I haven't seen Peter in five years. Last time we spoke was at Golds Vencie 2015-ish and he was totally incoherent. He literally tied a sweatshirt around his head and walked east on Sunset Ave. towards Linclon Blvd. I never saw him again.

You are correct. As someone who is trained in psychology (among other things), yes, this is a very common symptom in what we would call classic schizophrenia. The rhyming, the absolute belief in messages from God etc, combined with a total detachment from reality. Hard to know if he also had an paranoid or depressive aspect (I suspect he did). And I am pretty sure it was worsened by use of drugs (most likely simply marijuana). Some would say meth for sure, but cannabis induced schizophrenia can actually produce truly manic and prolonged energetic bursts that can last for many weeks on end.
So yes, that is my diagnosis, and it seems very very obvious to me from the video clips and the rants posted here.

Yes, Peter said he need to be put to sleep because of some sort of sickness, and that David was stressed out and really sad because of it. I'm pretty sure the dog passed after David. It's a bit hard to read through Peter's posts.

No one within these fields uses those two terms interchangeably. :D A psychiatrist is a doctor. Anyone can be a psychologist :D

Both are sciences. But yes, there are some more "holistic" aspects to some parts psychology.
One can have a PHD in either field. Psychiatry tends to have more of a biological and pharmaceutical focus, and thus is arguably more empirical and "scientific" in that sense, whereas psychology is more behavioral focused. But please don't confuse either with crystal healing and fortune telling etc - both are legitimate, with extensive peer-reviewed studies to support.

As said, I have spent time with both.
My best memory is sitting with David out back Gold’s Venice in his car. His GIANT dog was in the back seat and he was slobbering all over the back of my head as David jammed him and his brothers’ latest music on the stereo.
That one song, “War With the Weights”, was among them.
David was literally singing/screaming along, fists clenched ... “War ... with .. the weights!”
(Or sitting in a restaurant and they were trying to mix a protein shake with a portable mixer they’d built. Kid you not, protein powder was flying everywhere and they were howling just like they’d do it their movies. It WAS NOT an act. I was just sitting there, thinking, This is AWESOME!)
They were hilarious guys. But clearly David was the more “with it” of the two.
To me, it’s painfully obvious Peter’s (I believe some used to call him Pee Wee, as he was the smaller of the two) situation is legitimate mental illness. It’s not an act. He’s gone off his rocker.
As others say, I, too, imagine he will sink even deeper now that David’s gone.
Totally sucks.
They treated me very well the times we hung and were colourful, beyond funny and, yes, intelligent (in their own way).
At one time they were seriously impressive physical specimens, as well.
LOL his giant dog was SLOBBERING all over the back of my head while while david jammed his and his brothers music on the stereo, OMG man im laughing my ass off still and i read that 5 minutes ago. then the part where they where mixing protien shakes in restaraunt howling as powder was flying all over the place,LOL

me to NJFLEX, i CANT GET ENOUGH of the old school stories about guys like the Barbarians, ive always RESPECTED them regardless if they where alittle different, i actually used to wear the boots and flannels back then to train in the winter cause it gets COLD in jersey at that time. i used to always read about their training sessions when they would HAVE A NECK HARNESS ON with a woman hanging off of it and BEHIND THE NECK PRESSES with 315 or more. I can tell that CB meant a lot to him. I can totally relate. I saw DP many years ago at some dog shows in Ca. He was really enjoying just watching the dogs. I would have liked to talk with him some but I was busy showing dogs and just wanted to go home when I was done.

i had to put 2 of my dogs to sleep in a 4 month span of eachother cause they had sickness that couldnt be cured and they where in pain,i had them both for 13 years. that was in 2010 and im still really sad over it,i have their pictures on my wall and everyday i tell them ill be seeing them when i leave this earth one day

When I was in the Army SO many Saturdays they would screen a free movie down at one of the Aircraft Hangers (with a huge amount of free popcorn for everyone)
and we probably saw DC cab more than 10 times, of course we'd all PRETEND not to be upset because of all the free popcorn and Coca-Cola!!!! :D
