Would you get either A or B? I want to purchase some dumbbells for my home.
A:
Bowflex adjustable dumbbells go up to about 55 pounds

For a home gym I'd go with A by far. Less room and probably cheaper although everything gym related is sky high. I think that Bos flex set use to go for about $300. What are they now?
-
A
But what does Rory want?

349.00
I was also leaning toward A!

A
But what does Rory want?
Rory doesn’t lift weights.
He told me get whatever I want! He only wants what is best for me!

I just checked out their site. For me, this is something that I will use for life so I don't want to skimp and I'd pay the extra few hundred and get the set that goes up to 90 lbs and get the rack option. It must be a bitch to ship.

Option D: Toss your laptop ;D

The Bowflex looks really easy to use and takes a minimum of space. Seems like a good choice to me.
-
B
Only selectable dumbbells I would get are ironmaster.
-

Where are you buying them? SelectTech wants $349 -not sure about shipping (they are out of stock)New, they are $569 plus $100 shipping on Amazon 2 pair in stock.
On Ebay they are $599 with free shipping - 7 pair available.

I was thinking about the 90 pound pair too.

I was also looking at iron master. So many options, Rob!

Yeah be careful, most are junk. iron master are great and solid.I’ve seen the others available break and get loose quickly.
-
Bowflex is for the Gays i think. So B of course. No real man would choose A!
-
I bought a whole set of ivanko dumbbells for 8k, 5 pounds to 100 pounds
-
If space isn’t an issue I’d definitely pick b
-
Go with option B if you have the space at home. This eliminates the need to change the weights each set plus those option A dumbbells are clunky to deal with.

55 lbs is light as shit what can you do with that...

I am not as big as you, as I am sure you're a 290 pound shredded beast! Typical getbigger!! :D

290?that was typical getbiggers in 2010 now its 325.
-
Option D - fight.
It will be good exercise for you running away.
-
Option D: Toss your laptop ;D
;D
As for which dumbells to buy, the adjustable ones seem fragile but maybe I just tried a bad pair years ago. In a home gym space can be at a premium so if they're of good quality then the adjustable models can make more sense.
Those doppelganger pics are pretty neato!
-
Standard for me the others just look uber gay.
-
The bowflex DB are easy to adjust but you have to baby them. They can break easily.
Ironmaster DB are the absolute best and worth the investment.
During normal times, bowlfex dumps inventory 1-2x a year and the DB can be had for half price.
-

You will never need more than 55lb dumbbells. There are so many different exercises and so many techniques to make lifting them harder you could never outgrow them.

Yup.
Walking OH lunges, manmakers, turkish get up, etc.....tons of stuff.

roland kickinger never used more than 75 lb dbs in his workout he was a giant by bodybuilding standards.

Just slowing the reps down increases the effort exponentially.

Just slowing the reps down increases the effort exponentially.
That too.
Or doing sets for time instead of reps - 1 min of DB presses, etc.
-
Option B hands down.

Yes, and average height has increased to 6’4 3/8
-
I'm thinking Core vs Bowflex. Core seems to be higher rated than Bowflex 552
-

nice old rusty dumbbells ...............

It does?
My DB set goes 10-120.
Doesn’t mean there aren’t variants of exercises that can be done with lighter weights.
-
Option D - fight.
It will be good exercise for you running away.
hahahahaha that shit was fucking hilarious.
-
Option B.

Geeze.. Just get two decent dumbbell rods can even get two rods from a metal Workshop. Loads of plates. Cost much less than all this stuff. I have Standard plates and olympic but i Just use Standard plates on my two rods. Can put any plates on there. Have a pile ok 5kg plates. Can get the rods Cut to any length.
-
OPTION D
-
B of course

I was considering Powerblocks or Ironmaster. Powerblocks are insanely fast to change weight. Ironmaster you could drop them and Powerblocks say they can be damaged by dropping. I never drop dumbbells so it's a mute point for me. Powerblocks are accurate in weight especially the US made elite model. Ironmaster are off weight being made in China I believe. In the end if your 75lbs dumbbells really weighs 74lbs and 75lbs is that a deal breaker? I do know the majority love to drop dumbbells.
In the end I got ordinary spin lock dumbbell bars. I can make up to 75lbs dumbbells quickly with the plates stacked on a waist high table I made out of an old jubinville leg extension machine. For weights over 75 I bought ordinary hex dumbbells and a nice rack. I rarely use dumbbells over 90lbs at this stage of the game. My 100lbs hex dumbbells collect dust. I always use a full range of motion and that limits the weight I can use anyway. Maybe if I did half reps that is the usual now in the gym for chest and shoulder presses I would need heavier dumbbells. On a side note this covid made almost every home equipment manufacture have a sold out sign on their web site.

:o top of the line dbs as used by dlb and brian shaw. &t=565s

Some businesses made out during the shutdown. I feel sorry for the UPS men who have to deliver all that. ;D
-
I might go with the Iron Masters dumbbells.
If they are sold out, I might just spring for a variety of dumbbells.
