Ever heared of Greg Kovacs or Roland Kickinger? ::) There were plenty of "mass monsters" worse than Palumbo...

Both of those guys were better than Palumbo.
-
Palumbo: "I wouldn't want to go against Ronnie in any pose, that's how good Ronnie was."
-
Kovacs had a peak of about 6 months but it was a hell of a peak.

Yep, then he died.

Better to live like a god for 6 months than a long life with family, friends, and decades of world experiences.

Yes, you have to get your priorities straight. Muscles always come first.

The only time Ronnie compares himself to Palumbo, is when he looks into the toilet after his morning shit. The turd wins his pro card over Palumbo.

This is the way.

Dave was impressive in 95/96

Dave did not have the arm or back thickness to compete with Ronnie

Kovacs look FANTASTIC when he won the 1996 Canadian Nationals to turn pro.
But, it was downhill after that, because of all the MuscleTech hype, promising that he'd come in ripped at some ungodly bodyweight.
He was supposed to be 325 ripped at the 1997 Night of Champions (his pro debut). He ended up being 318 and smooth as a baby's behind.
Had he stayed in the low 300s, he would have had decent results.

Kicking wasn't that bad. It just that they (MuscleMag and IronMan) kept comparing him to Arnold Schwarzenegger, since he was also from Austria. In fact, he got to play the role of the Oak in that unauthorized biopic about Arnold on A&E (I think that was the network).
That's also the one, incidentally, where Lou Ferrigno actually lost the audition to play himself to Bob Chicherillo. That movie was utterly stupid because it portrayed Arnold as taller than Lou when everyone knows it was the opposite (although Kickinger looked ultra scrawny, compared to Chick).

He looked really different at the 2004 Arnold Classic.
Most getbig greats have had appreciation for Greg Kovacs, there is a mythology surrounding his massive size. Suckmymuscle had the best Kovacs analysis in my opinion.
Anyway he looks amazing in the video you posted, not sure what happened to his physique, not usually what we see from age alone.

He gained too much muscle using MuscleTech. Gaining 1,987,956,432X more muscle made it impossible for the heart to pump the blood through all that muscle.

La Shit I thought it was Yates !
People only remembers Kovacs on his final Palumboism stage .

Markus mentioned in a video recently that the Weider magazines were pushing Bob Cicherillo hard at that time as the "frontrunner" for that show - as Bob would be "the guy to beat" coming into the NOC 2002. When he was standing on stage next to Markus and Paul Dillet, not even the most dedicated Weider-schmoe-judges could help him though.... ;D

Only the top 5 bodybuilders in the world could beat Markus during that era.

Chick placed SECOND at that show, which means he beat Dillet and he beat Darrem Charles, who bested him a week earlier to win his first show, The Southwest Pro. Besides, why would he be the favorite at the NOC, considering Charles beat him a week earlier?

Darrem Charles was never consider top 5 in the world; he was dubbed, "King of the $10,000 shows". But, he beat Ruhl in 2003 at the Maximus Pro in Italy.

At the time Bobert was considered “marketable” well spoken, tall for bbing standards, easy on the eyes, and white, so they were def pushing for him even though he was sub par tier 2 at best
He was even featured in Malcolm in the middle and dodge ball

I remember that show. Art Atwood also beat Ruhl at a pro show in Toronto.
But generally speaking, Ruhl only lost to the best of the best.

Crazy good lighting. Kamali Kitchen-esque

I saw Bob in 1995, when he was was still an amateur. Dorian was in the audience that night, so Bob’s size was not jumping out at people, because all eyes were on Yates. But Bob was definitely big and wide. His X-Frame is underrated. Wide quads, wide shoulders, relatively small waist.

Wow, Bob was mocked on here back in the days permanently for his mediocre physique - these days he would look decent in an Olympia line-up; pretty sad actually :D

Chic was very good.

Chic had a good physique but was lost in the wrong era.

Not really. A number of good (but not elite) pros have beaten Ruhl.

Did you forget how magazine hype worked? They were prepared months before actual shows and share the results months after. If a magazine hyped up a competitor that would make him the favorite. At the time we lived in Joe Wieders bodybuilding world, he didn’t play by our rules.
