Title: Squat and General Activity Update
Post by: JustPlaneJane on August 11, 2021, 10:03:14 PM
In case anyone was wondering where the loud skinny Getbig chick has been lately ?
🤣

My Mom came to visit and we are in Colorado with a group of friends. We went hiking in Estes Park and saw a herd of Elk which was cool. We lifted weights with our arms and worked our calves. I got a vest to stay warm while still showing off my twig arms in my long sleeve shirts.

We went to Vail for a few days and did downhill mountain biking with the gondola. My Mom is wicked fast and absolutely left me in her dust. But….

That night we did squats and I did two 205 lb back squat sets, one with my belt and no knee wraps (forgot my wraps) and one with my knee wraps and no belt (forgot my belt). I weighed 133 lbs after working out. I was sore the next two days but not from lifting, more from falling off the mountain bike.

Next we spent a few days in Aspen…I did the supermodel thing and did not show off my massive bhank thighs too much. I did buy clothes and tried not to bother my mom too much with theories of foot placement during squatting. We bought my Mom a black party dress and went to a concert.

The last few days we have been in Ouray, Silverton, and Telluride dirt biking. My Mom skipped that because she can’t ride a motorcycle anymore. The Austrians make the best dirt bikes !

Last but not least…. I am going to work on my squat the next few weeks until it is 40% of Tommy’s 551 lb bench.

That is all - wish you the best in your lifts and always remember, no matter what happens,  “at least you’re not Shitzo.”

Hey you Getbiggers, post up your best squats !

Shitzo, since you don’t lift you can post about faking your death or something like that.

Today I’m going to work on back and abs after we explore Colorado more.

I worked up to 405 for reps (6-10, parallel) but then decided my spine hated it. I no longer do any leg exercises and instead do sprints on my bicycle. My legs are still the same size as when I did squats so I figure that's good enough. Plus I have zero spine issues as a result.

BTW many of my cycling and speed skating friends do zero weight work and yet have some of the biggest quads I've ever seen on natural athletes!

I’m going to squat 225 lbs next because it looks cool on the bar.

Then I’m going to call Henda’s wife and tell her that her husband is a bit soggy.

Haha I don’t have a wife I fucking despise weddings so was never going to have one myself

Squatting 225 would be awesome many “men” can’t do a legit squat with that weight

The last time I had enough weight at the gym (and I was much younger) I did the following:

Warm up with 135.

First set 20 reps with 515 lbs.

Second set 20 reps with 535 lbs.

Third "Heavy" set 5 reps with 585 lbs.  It wasn't really heavy  but I needed it to accustom myself to a heavier load.  I also would load the bar to 700 or so lbs. and walk around the gym for the same reason.

Fourth and final set 20 reps with 515 lbs.

I them made the mistake of moving to another gym where there wasn't enough weight for that sort of routine so I would do things like one set of 50 reps with 300 lbs. or 1 set of 100 reps with 225 lbs.

I broke a leg extension machine (selectorized weight stack, plates and a 265 lbs. friend standing on it) well after 10 or so reps with an estimaged 750+ lbs. on it.  And no, they were not stupid "Platz Setz", LOL!   Performed 50 reps on a real (vertical) leg press with 700 lbs.  I despise those angled leg presses.  To me they are crap.

One time some good friends (the guys that got me into the J.C. Hise program) were deadlifting and had the bar and weights I needed.  I asked them for it and they said if I could lift it, I could take it.  505 lbs on the bar.  I deadlifted and carried it about 10 or so feet to the squat rack and set it on the lower tier.  I then squatted under it and did a bottom position rep to full upright and placed the bar on the top tier of the squat rack.

Squatting changed me  not overnight but over the years.  It took about 10 years to reach these weights and I've yet to meet anyone else that could do that.  I out squatted a couple of San Diego Chargers one day too. They had about 500 or so (could have been in the mid to high 400s at least) lbs. on the bar and I asked if I could work in.  They replied only if I didn't take any weight off the bar.  They were getting 5 or so reps per set and when my turn came I knocked out an easy 20 reps, racked it and then asked if we could go up in weight. These lads were big men, 6'3' was the height of the "shorter" gentleman or more, at least.

For me, squats and the J.C. Hise program changed me into a lifter.  Alas, No one outside of powerlifters ever asks "How mucha squat?!"  LOL!

Two women I trained with both were capable of doing 20 rep sets with 225 lbs.  No drugs allowed.  In my case it was "retard strength". LOL!

That is some serious squatting. Those have to be near world class poundages?

I read an article where tall, skinny women who squatted in their Victoria’s Secret underwear typically saw an increase of about 25 lbs in their lifts.  😂

Get to it JPJ and email me the photos.

My best was many moons ago as a younger dude.
Very similar to your rep range with 405 for full reps and no wraps.
Best every for reps was 315 "hams to calfs"deep  for 20 reps.

505 for a double at age 23-ish. Probably couldn’t do 350 for one now. I haven’t squatted in years probably, my back wouldn’t recover.

I weighed 250 lbs. with no visible abs, LOL!   I could not bench press for beans having only done 350 lbs. and that deadlift of 505 lbs. was the most I ever did too.  My desire to gain weight led my older powerlifting friends to tell me about J.C. Hise and his routine.

I hated leg work but once it began to literally transform me, I came to really like it and leg days were my favorite. The last time I could do legs I think I did sets of 335, 355. 405 and then back to 335.  When I completed all sets with 20 reps each and the "heavy" set for 5 reps the next session I would use 5 lbs. more on the bar for each stage.   That's it.  Along with about ten years of squatting.

I don't think Jane would send me anything except well wishes for health reasons.  That is enough for me.  ;D

Deep squats just aggravated my knees so much! But I ultimately just got tired of the pressure on my upper back. There are so many other options now too.

The squat bar at Stern's Gym in San Diego was curved from years of heavy weights.  It was quite an inspiration to me.

What was your best max squat in a power lifting contest?

I was a bodybuilder, even competed a few times.  I never entered a power lifting meet as I could not really bench nor deadlift and thought I would look ridiculous. Some friends estimated I should have been able to handle at least 700 lbs.  Having walked around a gym with that on my back, I think so too.  But reality is, who knows.  I think I asked Coach here once if he thought I could have done that as I met another coach and he had estimated at least 700 lbs. for a single after watching me train one day.

I have never had knee problems from squatting, nor lower back problems  I used only one Ace bandage around each knee and a 4" or 6" belt, usually the former as the bigger one felt weird.  I still have one given to my by one of my friends that taught me the J.C. Hise routine.  He is doubtless, long gone.  :'(

Yes, and I do believe Platz was capable of the set he did on video years ago despite Kaz's ridiculous protestations. I have seen Platz train the squat and it was impressive.  He is a lot shorter than me and I only went to parallel or just below (which my friends that taught me insisted upon in case I even wanted to compete) and he did the ass to grass thing.  I was 6' 1.5" (calm down Matt, that is height not weiner size, LOL!)  and he was teensie in comparison.

Except for his legs, LOL!

The squat changed me and I consider it the bestest exercise of all.  For me, that is.  ;D

That's some decent squatting and good luck banging out some reps with 225.
I loved hiking at Estes Park ( Rocky Mt National Park). Sounds like a great trip for you.

Hi Howard 🙋‍♀️

That was where we went into the National Park and to the hikes near Bear Lake. Some of the views were cloudy because of the smoke from the California wildfires.

I think I can lift the 225, but the knurling on the bar really made a mark on the skin on my upper back.

I told my Mom I need better lifting shoes, she thinks I’ve kind of lost it.

Sounds like you had some serious power.
Would have been cool for you to nail a big lift in a meet 'eh. :)

No matter . Thanks for posting your lifts .

When i was powerlifting i did a full depth squat with 615 at 220 pounds. Nothing but a belt. This was in a competition.

In the gym i think i did a single with 635 or so at 250ish pounds. Full walk out and re-rack, no mono lift crap.

Blew out my knee (unrelated to weightlifting) and never went over 455 since. Also not willing to take all the drugs and gain 30 pounds just to be strong again.

I have no idea how much i can squat today. The highest i've done in the last 5-6 years if 425 for 6-8 reps.

Typical workouts these days are front BB squats working up to 315 for 8-10 reps. Stopping well short of failure. I don't do many back squats anymore.

My lower back is bad and i don't care about strength. My legs are still huge, but they always have been since i was 12 years old. Good genetics.

At my age it doesn't matter. I want to have my legs and lower back my entire life. I go on 5 miles hikes almost every weekend with elevation changes up to 4000-feet.

Also do a lot of mountain biking.

My priorities have changed.

Well I do know I have shrunk to at least 5' 11&15/16s" now as I am well into my 60s and we tend to shrink as we age.  My daughter saw Arnold in Sacramento a few years back as she interned there for a Republican (we are Conservative!  ;D) and she told me I now dwarf him.   He was huge when I first met him.  It is a crime we age...

Mr. Sobchak asked me to inform you that training in lingerie would get you a 25 lbs. increase in strength! He also requested photos. Of you, not me.   ;D

Hi JPJ,
I loved the Bear Lake area and my favorite trail hike there was the one that started there and went up.
It was summer and there was still a little snow near the top of that trail. Pretty cool.

Sorry to hear your views were affected by the western wild fires . The heat wave has been brutal, but I guess Colorado dodged the worst of it?

I admire you for still trying to do real barbell squats.
Between those and dead lifts, all I got rewarded with, was a messed up low back.

Not trying to rain on your parade, but, you might consider NOT going for 225 and just enjoy your vacation .

Enjoy what's left of your trip and thanks for the nice reply,
Howard.

It felt like a truck. I have a picture of the 615 lift in competition. My face looked like i was about to explode. ;D

Depends on the bar. The standard cheap bars you see in most gyms will start bending at 405 and start "whipping" at around 500. I remember squatting 585 for a few reps at a 24 hour fitness and almost lost control because the bar was whipping around everywhere. Not very safe.

A good Texas power bar won't even bend until you get over 600 on it. That's what we trained with.

My first attempt I weighed 165 lbs.  Of course I didn't place. Truth is, I never did.  My friends thought me a decent poser but perhaps they were just being kind.  Probably.  :D

I think I only did three shows before realizing that I was not going to get big enough and ripped enough to have a chance.  My family recently sent me photos of me at 190, 230 and 250 lbs.   Ouch!  I did get fairly large but again, I could not diet down and keep any size.  Flat describes me on a diet and the model "Twiggy".  ;D

Is Texas power bar a brand name ?

I got my power rack built for me in Texas and shipped. It is pretty heavy duty and sturdy.

I think a bar that can hold 405 is way good enough for me ?

Yes it's a brand name. They have different types.

A standard 45 pound bar is fine for what you are using it for.

LOL!
Jesus Christ bro,you were a fucking squatting animal....big props, very impressive to say the very least.

Best squats...405 for a single at 160 pounds or so well below paralell.....370 got 2 sets of triples....deep......250-20 full squats....315-10,10,8,8,6....and remember I had no legs at all but I was a strong little fucker with a sparrow like bone structure.

I always went to paralell or way below paralell......none of this curty BS in a squat suit....just knee wraps, chalk, and a belt.

Some of my leg routines were quite insane but I never could grow my quads....they did grow a bit as I got older strangely enough.

Wearing just socks allows your feet to "feel" the floor better to get your drive right, IMO. I wore Chucks for years and still do except for squats and deadlifts. Send the downhill vids!
Go pro issues? Throw it away and start over. I think the 9 is waterproof?

Hi Vince  ;D

I never unracked more than 405 for a grunty 4 or 5 a couple of times in the 'Year of Sustanon'

I actually found that pumping sets of 315 x 20/15/10 were more than enough to blow me up initially in the first few years

Then I really got into front squats wearing those thin surf shoe things - never really went back to legit squats

Placing a 2 X 4 under the heels or even a couple of 10 pound plates when squatting decreases range of motion at the hip and improves the range of motion at the knee, which helps to recruit more quad muscle fibers.

Wearing just socks allows your feet to "feel" the floor better to get your drive right, IMO. I wore Chucks for years and still do except for squats and deadlifts. Send the downhill vids!

x2 on the squat/DL in socks.

I used to deadlift in gymnastic slippers/shoes or those flat soled black karate shoes.

Could never entertain the idea of squatting in socks......could be why my quads looked like shit.  '

The one thing I learned about quads is they respond a lot more to volume than other body parts. My speedskating friends never touch a weight and yet they get huge legs.

This is typical of how big these guys legs get:

My quads did respond better to higher reps and more volume.

Going too heavy forces you to concentrate more on form so you dont get fucking killed.....plus IMO, you need that mind/mucle connection which you cant get when using a ton of weight.

I dont mean to say you should use baby weights......just a disclaimer.

Actually a cycling friend of mine decided he wanted to sprint faster so he did sets of 50 squats with a 100 pound barbell. He fucking blew up. I never saw anything like it. He did set after set. I could never do that- I'd go insane!

I think the same - especially as a taller dude, which is why I kinda stuck at 315 and built up from there.  I remember that Shawn Ray video where he was repping 315 nice and smooth - machine like - and that was what I visualised (no h0mo)

Back in the day there was a Greek kid who trained in our gym.....he did 20  squats with 135.185,205,225,250,then he would do as many as he could get with 200 pounds......kid looked great....name was Jack Kousaris....placed in the NABBA Universe if I recall or he entered it at least.'

He`s on musclememory.com sevreal times but each time his name was misspelled wrong......if you searched alphabetically under the letter "K", you could figure out who he was regardless of the fucking misspelling.

Yes I did for the most part ,.....changed things up often though....at times I would do four  exercises then do squats last to save my back, still felt heavy as my quad were fried.....or I might do pre-exhaust.....anything that was intense.....drop sets, super set, tri sets, giant sets, strip sets, etc. etc.

Cook, another scenario I would use at times was on the Leg Press:

1 plate per side -100 reps
2 plates per side - 50 reps
3 plates per side - 30 reps
4 plates per side - 20 reps
5 plates per side - 10 reps
2 plates per side - to absolute failure

Not mega heavy but the quads suffer like a bitch.

If you have a similar psychotic training partner it works great as you get adequate rest while he` doing his set.

You need this rest cuz you`ll be breathing like a runaway locomotive.

Then I would do 4 sets of Hack Squats - 10-20 reps....followed by 3 sets of Leg Exts. to failure which would be between 12-5 reps or whatever you could get but not going beyond the 15 rep mark.

Oh my God, this is such an incredible photo ! It is hard to imagine you were that strong at only 20 years old. I’m assuming those are 100 lb plates ? 😳

I like where you have the bar placed on your back to keep from squishing your traps. I need to work on that.

Here is an indispensable piece of equipment for anyone doing regular squats where the bar rests on your upper back. It makes a world of difference for me. If you haven't used one, give it a try.

Thanks Howard and by all means keep them stories coming from when you were competing
Thanks and I was worried I might be boring too many on here.
Ok, you might enjoy this one.

The first bodybuilding contest I saw in person, was the 1975 AAU Mr NH  ( *Manchester Armory)
I was still 16 and entered the open men's arm wrestling.
Back then, it was common to have a lifting or strength event with the bodybuilding contest.

The arm wrestling started at 1 pm and I arrived before noon to weigh in.
On the other side of the armory was the bodybuilding contest.
They had a raised platform with sheet background with "1975  Mr NH , in bold letters.

Attached to the basketball rim , was one bright spot light they posed under.
There were about 50 folding chairs around the 10 ft x 6 ft platform , but everyone was standing.

I stood on the left side , about 30 ft from the platform.
They suddenly  announced it was time for the overall pose down and called for the short and tall class winners.
The shorter man was thicker and had incredible definition . The tall guy was cut but not as muscular.

The head judge had them compare in each of the basic poses.
The crowd of only 40-50 people were loudly screaming and the atmosphere was like a rock concert.
It was contagious and I got into it and started to root, rather loudly for the short guy.

He won the overall and was given a massive trophy that came to his chest.
I'll never forget the image of him standing there, with his arm raised as the champion.

I weighed in a hair under 175 which put me in the biggest wt class of 10 entrants, all grown men .
I ended up getting 3rd and got a lot of praise for my quick and  explosive snap start.

On the drive back home, all I could think about was the bodybuilding.
I was hooked and there was no going back.

4 years later , I was on the 1979 Mr NH stage as a dopey college kid , thinking I'd win.
The contest had become a separate show and moved to a HS auditorium in Manchester.
LOL, I was young , delusional and put in my proper place , getting 3rd... again. :D

I went into the USMC soon after the show and my recruiter took  a pic of me .
I did a gym shorts , no shirt double bicep beside my 3rd place trophy and the USMC flag.
He posted a copy in his office and send it might help him with recruiting. I was honored and full of myself.

On my way down to Parris Island for Bootcamp, I imagined I might be greeted as semi-celebrity.
That fantasy rapidly evaporated when a DI rushed us off the bus , on to the infamous  PI "yellow footprints".

I returned to compete in the Mr NH, as a marine on leave for the next 2 years.
My parents had divorced after 23 yrs of marriage before I went to boot camp.
However, they BOTH came out to see me compete at the 1980 , 81 Mr NH's.

I barely knew what steroids were back then. Plus, I  was clueless where/how anyone bought 'em.
I'd like to give this a fairy tale ending and say I finally won, but that never happened.
I improved my size and cuts each year, but so did the competition. I got 3rd each year.

Thank you so much to you and the others for sharing such inspirational lifts. This is exciting and I think I have picked up a few pointers. Apparently I need to get my Converse Chuck Taylor shoes out and learn how to put on my knee wraps.

Just a suggestion, but hiking boots with a good grip sole can be awesome to do heavy squats and leg presses.
Something about the boots makes you feel like going heavier? No idea if this is only in my head , but, WTF

Howard, I have tried squatting in flat soled running shoes, trail running shoes, and my cross fit training shoes. All of them felt about the same. Of course I can’t lift nearly the weight the others on here can.

I guess I probably have bigger feet for a woman. I tell my friends that my feet are longer so I don’t tip over forward due to my big boobs. LOL. But in reality, my boobs aren’t quite that big.

I have flat soled leather basketball type shoes and my canvas Converse flat soled shoes so that is what I will try next. I also want to look into a good belt to make sure I protect my lower back.

Thanks for the advice.

Here is an indispensable piece of equipment for anyone doing regular squats where the bar rests on your upper back. It makes a world of difference for me. If you haven't used one, give it a try.

THE SQUAT

Down this road, in a gym far away,
a young man was heard to say,
“No matter what I do, my legs won’t grow.”
He tried leg extensions, leg curls, and leg presses , too
trying to cheat, these sissy workouts he’d do.

From the corner of the gym where the big men train,
through a cloud of chalk and the midst of pain,
where the noise is made with big forty fives,
a deep voice bellowed as he wrapped his knees.
a very big man with legs like trees.

Laughing as he snatched another plate from the stack
chalking his hands and monstrous back,
said, “Boy, stop lying and don’t say you’ve forgotten,
the trouble with you is you ain’t been SQUATTIN’.

We've come to squat so run and hide
You bicep freaks must step aside
Just take your sissy selves elsewhere
You'll turn your heads but still you'll stare
Go right ahead and pay attention
Glimpse into this strange dimension
Yeah you're still weak and never grow
This world of pain you'll never know
Your shouts upon the leg-press, phony!
Noodle legs like macaroni
Some day I hope you'll understand
And wrench free from the poser band
Puny curl bars, leave this spot
The rack named for the mighty SQUAT!
JUST SQUAT!!!

The young man looked fit, thick through the chest. Bulging biceps and triceps. Washboard abs and the rest.
He strode a bit closer. To my shock and surprise!
I saw his torso supported, by two spindly thighs!
He walked with confidence and no apprehensions,
as he performed his first set of leg extensions!
I watched this debacle, watched his face turn askew.
Watched him scream in mock agony, 'til his set was all through.
T'was then I approached him and extended my hand.
"I don't mean to disrupt you, but excuse me, young man!
I was admiring your work. Man, that set was nice!
But I wonder if I might offer some helpful advice?"
He spoke not a word. Simply nodded his head.
I could read his expression. He wished I were dead.
"Get off this contraption! You're wasting your time!
Go to the squat rack! You can see....there's NO line!
You don't need machines! You don't need to look far!
Just load on the weight and get under the bar!
Unrack that sucker! Squat ass to the floor!
Grab some big plates, and load on some more!
Hear the iron rattle as you pound out each rep!
But please, my friend! YOU must take the first step!
Come with me now! To the squat rack we'll go!
Together we'll get those tiny pegs to grow!"
He studied me hard. He seemed in a haze.
No words came! He stood in a daze!
'Say SOMETHING, son! Speak to me, PLEASE!'
'I can't do it!', he screamed! 'I have bad knees!'

Footwear is a highly individual thing when going for heavy lifts.
I used to train in the same gym with Judy Averbach* She squatted in our gym wearing, cheap sneakers, laced tightly.
https://vault.si.com/vault/1983/12/05/faces-in-the-crowd

Good grip sole, solid BOOTS are the most common footwear I've seen used for heavy squats and leg press.

I don't want to be the "skunk at the garden party", but you just mentioned low back safety
I injured my low back a few times , doing full heavy squats and off the floor deadlifts.

The pain and tedious recovery was a depressing, tedious experience. :'(
The last time (  2005) had me sleeping on my couch for 2 weeks . My  left leg, kept at 90 deg supported by the sofa cushion.
I hate sounding like a wimp and don't want to be Debbie Downer, but , shit happens...ya know . ;)

PS/ I'm sure some of the Get Big faithful will   call me a "gaywad douchebag" and urge you to ignore my lame advice.
That's fine and dandy, unless your the one, wincing in pain , thinking ; ' Why did I try that f'n lift."

Dorian Yates is open about dropping reg barbell squats early on, due a nagging hip pain doing them.
He opted for a steady diet of  deep leg press, hacks, leg ext, etc.

Squats and benches are  of hallmark of powerlifting and a classic test of strength.
But, for most bodybuilders, they tend to be used for ego building more then muscle growth.

Hey knucklehead,

JustPlaneJane said, "I think I can lift the 225, but the knurling on the bar really made a mark on the skin on my upper back." I posted the picture for her benefit. If she'd had this piece of equipment to use, the bar cutting into her skin on her back wouldn't be a problem. It doesn't make doing squats any easier, just a little more comfortable.

Almost every gym I've worked out at has at least one of these.

Clever. It appears you put a lot of thought into this response. Do you have "a thing" for Elton John? Oddly enough, when I've used this at the gym, no one has ever called me a fag. In fact, Getbig is the only place since junior high that anyone ever calls me a fag. Hmmm.

Some gyms have foam pipe insulation to use as padding on the bar. What I don't like about using that or a towel wrapped around the bar is that they move around too much and at least with the insulation can slip off.

Squats are probably the single most important exercise anyone can do, (if you do them right). I think that whatever it takes to help someone want to do them, is good. I used to wear a weight belt when squatting, but decided it was counter productive. I sometimes put a low stool under me so that I am sure to go low enough on each rep. I also occasionally use a 2 by 4 or an angled platform under my heals and I vary my stance just to change things up a bit and keep it interesting.

Placing a 2 X 4 under the heels or even a couple of 10 pound plates when squatting decreases range of motion at the hip and improves the range of motion at the knee, which helps to recruit more quad muscle fibers.

Any benefit/does it double up as a calf exercise?

In looking at the photo of Mr. Cook I think I had the bar way too high up on my back. I’m just not sure that if I lower the bar to the area where he had it, that my back is thick enough to support it without slipping. I did notice that the other people squatting next to me (2 guys) had their heals elevated, but they were only using the same weight I was, so I’m not sure they were credible sources for workout form.

Today we did abs, calves, and stretching and then we tried to make a video of me wheelying the dirt bike. My Mom went jogging and I told her I had to log in and work for a while, but I really just took a nap.

Tomorrow we are going to make a Voodoo Doll that looks like Chaos !

I think it targets the lower quad teardrop are if you use a close stance with toes pointed forward.

I know the entire quad is involved but I firmly believe that this will work lower quad done in this manner.

Give `em a try.

Put your elbows up when the bar is on your back and rest the bar low on your rear delts.........forms a kind of cradle for the bar to sit in.

Hard to explain but that`s the best way to do it hands down.

Oh, that makes sense and seems pretty easy to do.

It would probably work a lot better if I actually had bigger rear delts. LOL

How old is your mom? And did you bring your cool wrist wraps?

There is no right or wrong way regarding where the bar sits it depends on the goal, powerlifters will generally squat low bar as generally can move more weight and it puts more load on the glutes due to the tendency for torso to lean forward, high bar is more quads due to being easier to remain more upright torso which increases knee flexion. Same with the elevated heal it only serves to increase knee flexion to load the quads more. If your goal is to simply lift more weight go low bar with no elevated heel, for hypertrophy high bar and perhaps elevated heel if it’s needed to maximise knee flexion

Hi The Scott 🙋‍♀️

Do you mean boots like these ones ?

https://www.catfootwear.com/US/en/paisley-6-inch-steel-toe-work-boot/41276W.html?dwvar_41276W_color=P91098#cgid=womens-steel-toe&prefn1=isOnSale&prefv1=false&start=1

Pretty much but I prefer the Redwing brand. I wear Redwing steel toe boots all the time now.  Have for years actually and they seem to be the brand that fit with my leg braces the best.  Steel toe because I am a forklift driver/laborer so they protect me at work and when exercising.  I wear them when I feel brave enough to ride my Sporty but that is becoming a rare event as I tend to fall due to my crappo right leg being so weak.  Time to get a sidecar?  I have thought about the Piaggio Mp3 500 "tadpole" scooter (2 wheels up front) but it may well just be time to stop trying to be me, if you will.  My brothers and son will give me hell if I got a scooter, LOL!  I just want to ride for as long as I can but my doctors agree with my family.  Dammit!  I have gone off tangent again!

Try the boots.  The squat changed me and it will work for anyone willing to put the effort into it.

They have enough of a heel that I didn't feel the need for a 2X4 under my heels when I was still able to do the squat.

🤣  💋

Where the bar sits has a lot to do with comfort. I eventually moved it farther down my upper back but then it started getting less and less comfortable no matter what. I started using the leg press and felt I got the same effect without the spinal compression.

Naps are the best btw :) Every time we go to sleep we release growth hormone in the first 30 minutes or so after we close our eyes.

Not sure I could wheelie a dirt bike though, haha

How old is your mom? And did you bring your cool wrist wraps?

Hi Pellius 🙋‍♀️

My grandmother, mother, and I are all 29 years old. LOL

You’re not supposed to ask a women her age ! (She’s pretty active for her age).

I didn’t pack my cool wrist straps, I left them at home. I’m cutting back on power cleans for now and I’m going to learn how to deadlift properly next. Did you like the power cleans photo ? I think my thighs are bigger than bhank’s legs. 🤣

I hope you’re doing well. I told my Mom the story about the man flashing you for your cheeseburger and she doesn’t think I should go back to the Hawaii house “until the crime dies down.”

This is good information ! I definitely want more effort on my legs and less on my glutes.

Primemuscle should be along any minute now to ask about “putting more load on your glutes.”

I do my leg press with my feet close together and toes pointed out kind of like a duck.

The first two days I had a KTM 450 four stroke as a rental and it is pretty tall. I fell off a few times on the rocky trails. Now I have a KTM 350 and it is a better size and weight for me. They aren’t hard to wheelie if you just pop the clutch. My Mom has the 250 and she doesn’t want to try a wheelie.

I heard Chaos can’t wheelie because his skirt might fly up in his face ! 😁

We are off to eat French Toast now. Thank you for the information.

I fell a few weeks back trying to carefully back my 1200 Sportster down the driveway.  A few years back I got ride of my touring rig as it was over 900 lbs  and I no longer felt comfortable riding it due to my physical limitations and, well...my stubbornness.

I like Harleys a lot.  I also like a great many other brands and types of bikes.  I had a DR650 that I once rode to my HD dealer for a Saturday BBQ.  I parked next to all the Harleys and was  taking my helmet off when a guy said I couldn't park my "Jap Crap" next to his HD.  I said, "Oh...Okay" and then leaned over my bike, and with my left hand grabbed the frame and with my right the rear shock and lifted it  maybe waist high and walked several feet with it, set it down.  I asked if that was okay and if he wanted it further away I would gladly lift his bike and move it instead.  Of course I could not have done that with a much heavier bike, I think his was a Low Rider.

I then walked surrounded by silence to the showroom where a friend that was in sales waited to greet me at the door.  He smiled and I asked him if the guy was still watching me and he said no.  I told him, "Good! Cuz I think I screwed my back up!"   ;D  This childish, albeit lots of fun, display of strength was made possible by being able to do high rep, relatively light weight squats for years.  I have no doubt about that.

That and retard strength.

I like Vespas but I do not fit them well and the small wheels are too twitchy steering-wise for me.

I absolutely fucking HATE this type of low bar squatting bullshit. Talk about fucking everything up. ::)  I typically put the bar right low onto the meaty part of the traps, still above the rear delts but not on the high side. I do have that stupid hump where the bar rested when I was young. :(

(http://)This picture although it was made into a funny gif it was an actual set of training squats with 315.You can see it was a complete different style than the picture from 1980.The bar is high on my shoulders and the stance is somewhat narrow. This was taken just a few years ago before my hip started going bad and it was a set of squats for training my quads where the picture in 1980 I was just somehow trying to get that 600 lbs back up.

I've seen heavy full squats done by several lifters using a "manta ray".

For a lot of these folks , having a hardcore image is more important then the actual lift or building  muscle.

If I recall correctly the manta ray was a device to enable lifters to do front squats and concentrate on the actual exercise and not be distracted by choking yourself with a barbell a completely different story from using some device to stop the knurling hurting the delicate skin of ones traps, there is nothing hardcore about squatting with a bar it’s just normal

With the Manta Ray, the bar no longer rests at the deltoids or pulls the arms back as in the unaided barbell back squat. It transfers the load to the traps exclusively and doesn’t involve the shoulders. The load is spread over much more surface area than the bar. This gets rid of squat-related stress to the shoulder complex.

For the front squat, the Sting Ray lifts the bar off the collarbone without stressing shoulders, elbows, or wrists. By moving the load out to the front delts, keeping the arms in a protected neutral position it decreases problems that typically occur with common front squats.

It's all good.  Before you mentioned using the Manta Ray for front squats I never heard of the Sting Ray. So now we both know something we didn't before.

It's hard to tell what it is made from but could this be the contraption you mentioned?

Always did a higher version.

They didn't feel right low on the traps.

Maybe it's my long arms?

And the manta ray device.

Never seen one in a gym or anyone use one.

Wrap a towel around the bar or use the "pussy pad". No offence JPJ. That's what we always called them. I used to throw them across the gym at random people. ;D

Hello Mr. Cook 🙋‍♀️

I have knee high cross fit socks that I wore when I was trying to learn how to deadlift. They’re pretty funny, but I don’t think they add anything functional to the effort.

Today I am going to work on my back and biceps, but I don’t feel too motivated right now because I just ate lunch. My Mom thinks she wants cowboy boots…so that will be the focus of our afternoon excursion.

One of the hardest parts about my first powerlifting competition was squating and deadlifting without a mirror.

It takes a while to learn to do it.

Deadlift wasn't bad, just find something high on the wall in front of you and stare at it. Keep your eyes and head up high.

Finding proper depth in the squat without a mirror was a challenge. Good thing i had friends there to tell me when to stop and press.

Impressive squats Cook.

Forstemann is a big proponent of squats - he does reps at 500 pounds. But he follows it up with pretty intense cycling workouts at high cadence. If you don't do that weights actually make your cycling worse.

Here is a funny video of how much power he can generate:
