So after feeling unwell like his head is in a fog my dad finally had a test a couple of months ago and last week his been told its parkinsons.
It took him a year to get an appointment! He's gone from having mild barely noticeable hand shakes at the end of last year to arms and legs shaking more recently.
After battling chronic back pain for 35 years after slipping he now dealt this for retirement.
Anyone have experience with parkinsons? To me the subtle hand shakes to now arms and legs seems pretty quick..?
He's scared of what he'll become and doesn't even want to start the meds because of the nasty sounding side effects.
It's devastating all round, any help/advice appreciated
I've heard that creatine can help but there's so many brands out there.

Infrared light. Look for high power LEDs. My mother has it too. Worst type they’ve seen. 4 different diagnoses.
Will reply in more detail when sober.

Interesting, look forward to you being sober ;D

Get him tested for Lyme disease :o Seriously it's worth it. If he gets diagnosed he'll be on antibiotics for the rest of his life but his life will be much better.

so you dont smoke bio-identical vapes then?
Cooked on what exactly? I don't even drink soda or eat bacon anymore. I have not had an alcoholic beverage this year. I use a legal cannabinoid vape pic for my stomach digestion that's it. I have not even had an advil or aspirin this year. I exercise and work out 6 days a week. I am in phenom condition at 46 years old all I do is exercise everyday eat healthy and get plenty of sleep and fluids and you guys want to pretend I am some kind of recreational drug user it's mind boggling.
In North Carolina, the legal landscape surrounding marijuana is nuanced, but at this time, marijuana is still illegal. This means that possessing, selling, or cultivating cannabis for recreational use is prohibited under state law.

How does this reply make any cognitive sense at all? Please do explain it

Sorry to hear. It's crazy I was just reading Rickson Gracie was diagnosed as well.

That's too bad.
Stay strong.

Smoking raw cannabis will make him a pothead. The idea is to use only the medicinal part of cannabis, CBD, and not also the THC, that makes you either sleepy or euphoric, depending on the strand.

Edibles with both are superior.
-
It's a terrible progressive affliction. The meds help tremendously but I heard the effectiveness wears off after awhile. Some of the advice on this thread is just ridiculous. Sorry hearing about your dad, prayers.
-
That's crazy that the medicinal part isn't available to use. If it can be separated and like you say, not become a pot head!

Most Lyme treatments are oral antibiotics for 10-14 days. More advanced stages get iv antibiotics for 2-3 weeks. Long term antibiotic treatment has been found to be of no benefit

It is. Google CBD oil or CBD vs THC.

THC also has medicinal properties. CBD should be readily available in supplement stores.

1-year to get an appointment? Wtf

There seems to be a lot people getting Parkinsons and also Multiple Sclerosis and ALS.
-
Ok I’m still drunk but here goes a short list of what works on my mother : she has severe Parkinsonism and it makes her freeze not shake like Michael j fox. Believe it or not the shakes are easier to treat with the dopamine tablets (sinemet). There’s a few new treatments I’m looking into for her like Cue1.
Exercise is paramount - movement is medication. Stationery bike/recumbent is ideal.
Infrared light works well try it in Near infrared mode too. - I think this holds the cure. Experiment all over
CBD is very effective - 10% is what we’re using currently. Expensive but as effective or more so than her medication which is essentially speed and her resistance just keeps rising so we’ve kept the dose the same for a while. Seeing neurologists once or twice a year is a waste of time
I also roll her spliffs every day - less is more - the strain of thc is very important. Edibles work better it seems but hard to acquire currently but I’m working on it
It’s a very wide spectrum so it is. Some people have it worse than others - anxiety a huge factor
I’ll post more later but those are the key things I’ve learned
-
Best wishes to your father
-

It used to be mostly genetic but is becoming way more common. We think it was anaesthesia from keyhole surgery on her knee that caused it. But try proving that. No known cause no known cure

My buddy's mom just got diagnosed with it. SUCKS

Cibdol is the one we get from local health stores it’s around 70 euros for a bottle of 30 x 10% here
All I’ll say is don’t bother with cheap ones from Holland and Barrett
-
How much does it help her?
Also I was unaware that despite brain scans and mri there is no definitive test to say someone has parkinsons, they just use them to try eliminate other things.
My auntie went round his for dinner the other day and said he was quite shaky but after eating it'd basically stopped!...
I'm still not convinced it's not part of his back issues and stenosis.
How does the led lighting help?

They basically look at your dopamine receptors and guess
I’ve seen the top ones in Ireland with her - clueless. As I said, many different diagnoses. Not one the same. Absurd. Neurologists me arse
CBD helps more than her meds with zero to little sides only sleep. It’ll take some convincing but getting them to take thc just lie at first
-
Infrared is very important trust me but you must use it plenty and if you slack it fades
Just like a medicine would

The sun is great too. Hat off. Little to no sunscreen for a while. The sun is good.
The sunbed might help too but I haven’t brought the mother to one yet
Remember Covid is a factor too. If he took the vaccine he’s probably compromised so being in UV is important

Make sure you use the light on his back and get physio because it very much could be related to his back
My mother has curvature of the spine from back surgery years ago, and I 100% think it is correlated
There are many complex nerve bundles wrapping around your spine and thorax and I certainly believe it’s not just brain related but also physical short circuits
I’m an electronic engineer on paper so I understand the physics and the EM spectrum you need to learn a bit about that to understand mitochondria and light interaction

Hat off in the sun he never does, coz he had skin cancer on his bald head a few years ago and had it removed, so there's another blow he was dealt.

So did my mother from her face a couple of years before the Parkinson’s or we ever used red light
Look up skin cancer and people with melanoma improving in sunny climates. Don’t believe everything you hear. I had bad acne as 13 year old and dermatologist told me go on sunbed once a week and it worked

100% I agree the sun is great for many things, he got burnt many times on his head though without a hat they said that caused it.
I also am bald and I've been burnt a few times it doesn't take long now before my head has an uncomfortable tingle in the sun!
Do you have a link to the exact cbd your mum uses?

I'm not positive, but I think the CBD craze was a bit of a scam maybe? As BigRo and others said, the THC in itself is medicinal, probably responsible for most of the medicinal benefits of the plant I think. It's just that some think getting high is immoral so they push these inferior and most of the time synthetic CBD products. I've said to people that getting high or euphoric can be beneficial and therapeutic in itself and they just say, "you only say that because YOU want to get high." Well of course! But if you think about it, to me it's obvious how euphoria, especially the mild euphoria of weed, can be very therapeutic and it doesn't have to be bad or immoral.

Go away you idiot you’re an expert on everything but are clueless. Have you used either? They compliment each other and cbd is excellent on its own if high quality but thc gives it the kick

Saying CBD is close to "worthless" on its own is hardly an uncommon stance even by experts. Do you use it own its own? You just said you didn't, you said to trick your relative to ingest TCH lol.
Of course I have used both extensively. I've smoked a ton of CBD flower. It was all the rage but it has fallen by the wayside. Now they try to sell many other isolated cannabinoids when it's unknown which are important.
There were plenty of getbiggers who concurred with my CBD opinion, it was quite a while ago. I don't discount that CBD has effects on its own but it wasn't the cure-all it was promoted as.
Furthermore, all the pure CBD sold is synthetic. I suspect even the buds are sprayed with it to get that high concentration. It's not necessarily a problem that it's synthetic, but these weed gurus always talk about how everything has to be "natural" and man made chemicals are bad.

Look Dave, I will most likely regret this post but your post gave me pause. Funny how I've had the phrase "Don't Try" under my avatar for decades it seems. Just tell me what it is exactly that irritates you because if you look at most of my posts I try very hard not to come across as lecturing or being certain. Look at the post that irritated you, how I'm almost apologising for my opinion, there's always question marks and "maybes" and "seems" and so on, it's almost too much. I feel really stupid most of the time and I know my IQ is very average. I just happen to be interested in some bodybuilding related trivia.
But I'm missing something, I don't understand how I'm coming across, because some were also pissed at my style on another forum. One thing I know, my posts are too long and there is just too much info dropping.
Probably a regrettable post :-X

Your heart is in the right place but unless I have actual experience with a drug I don’t start talking about it like a scientist who has no hands on experience.

I've worked with scientists and engineers my entire career.
You come across as a "know it all" because you spend a lot of time researching things and doing trials on things in order to self-educate yourself because you find great value in knowledge and self-experimentation. I'm in the same boat yet lack the time or give-a-fuck to constantly post my responses on here anymore. ;D
I've delt with people like you (not a bad thing) my entire career, and i get negative feedback about this form of expression from people who are either uneducated or lack a sense of depth to your point of view. Mostly from people who react based on emotion and not logic/reason like you do.
Your posts resemble the emails i get from some of the people i deal with day to day, who are considered experts in their field due to continuous research and experimentation.
Take this as you will, my good man.

My understanding is that thc helps with sleep and pain relief. THC has the stigma because it will fuck with your head and cause problems, if you're dosing hard enough to call it therapeutic.

I like Van Bilderass. His knowledge of chemistry is superficial but he does a lot of reading and that is the key to understanding. I ill be the first to admit science is not a walk in the park.
For the record I spent 8 years in college studying chemistry and currently work in pharma. I have to constantly refresh my knowledge to maintain my skills.
Most of science is in the details and things aren't often as simple as they appear.
Case in point - I currently work on a class of substances called ellagitannins- and they promise to be one of the most powerful biochemical substances ever discovered. But how they work is extremely subtle and completely dependent on many factors. So you might read about them and try to duplicate the results of one study in a clinical trial only to find out that the base material wasn't kept at the optimum conditions and autoxidized before it was used. Such a minor change can have massive effects on the mode of action.
In the attached image the two molecules circled in red look nearly identical but have wildly different biochemical effects. My job is to figure out why.
-
Take this as you will, my good man.
I will definitely consider it. I've had some "aha-moments" recently even IRL wrt how I'm perceived, it's weird when you are already "old." For example, I apparently ask an unusual amount of questions. I know very well my knowledge of chemistry is superficial, but a lot of the time I can see others commentating are the same so I don't have to be shy lol.
-

Alright, let's just forget it. With CBD I didn't really notice much at all and was frustrated because many others claimed wonderful benefits. I was looking for effects on sleep, inflammation and so on. The research apparently shows clear effects with CBD so I'm not denying it "works" but I thought there may be a strong placebo component.
-
My understanding is that thc helps with sleep and pain relief. THC has the stigma because it will fuck with your head and cause problems, if you're dosing hard enough to call it therapeutic.
Yes, but I'm thinking the benefits are tied to the high, the high isn't a side effect, you probably want it. Know what I mean? People are different and some say when they smoke they feel more like they're supposed to, in their mind. I like the effect, on some level it's minor but on another it seems large, but I definitely feel altered from normal. I don't like it all day long but some do. The good thing with weed I guess is that the whatever euphoria you get is pretty minor which probably prevents it from becoming a huge problem for most.
-
Sorry to hear that man. Best of luck to your dad

Thanks, its just shit to think he'll never be a "well" man again, no justice in this world.

Such a minor change can have massive effects on the mode of action.
In the attached image the two molecules circled in red look nearly identical but have wildly different biochemical effects. My job is to figure out why.
I'm not a "scientist" though i am my own lab rat at times.
Them 2 molecules don't look at all similar.

I notice great sleep benefits from CBD. Up to 60-70mg. Makes me too sleepy the next morning though.

Alright, I have no reason to doubt you. One or two friends said that yeah they slept well on CBD oil sometimes but they couldn't be sure it was the CBD because the effect isn't forced like with a sleeping pill. I didn't really notice any definite effects from CBD but then again I don't think reg weed does much for my sleep either. It's VERY nice addition though to cap off an evening if I've had a sleeping med earlier like mirtazapine lol. I wish weed took away my dreams like it does for so many because I've been having night terrors almost every night but I'm dreaming as much as ever.

Get him on Dihexa asap
