Domino effect over there. It’s falling fast like Afghanistan after US pulled out. I wonder if Assad gets strung up by his feet at a petrol station?

I watched this video yesterday. Sounds like Turkey betrayed Russia and Iran. They are in BRICS and NATO. Erdogan can't be trusted he sits on the fence always, hedging.

Turkey should be kicked out of BRICS. They are backing NATO who does not give a fuck about Turks.

Erdogan wishes good luck to terrorists in Syria
The Turkish president has expressed hope that the jihadists continue their march to Damascus
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has voiced support for the jihadist insurgency in Syria, urging the Islamists to continue their march to Damascus, various media outlets reported on Friday.
Militant forces in Syria led by the group Hayat Tahrir-al-Sham, formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra, last week launched a surprise assault from their base in Idlib, targeting the province of Aleppo.

Hopefully all Syrian asylumseekers will be thrown out of the EU in the next weeks!
(This of course will not happen, as EU countries are very soft on criminals and terrorists from The Middle East and North-Africa. The parasites are allowed to stay forever)

I worry about the preservation of the ancient monuments.

Turkey is filling the power vacuum left by a weakening Hezbollah and Iran, and in turn an already weakened Syria who is getting less attention from Russia who is concentrating on the Ukraine. And none of it matters to the average taxpayer in the USA. We shouldn't be involving ourselves in these overseas affairs. We shouldn't have even invaded Iraq in the first place.

Tartus in Syria was/is the location one of the most important Soviet and Russian naval bases.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tartus
Russian naval base
Tartus hosts a Soviet-era naval supply and maintenance base, under a 1971 agreement with Syria, which is still staffed by Russian naval personnel. Tartus is the last Russian military base outside the former Soviet Union, and its only Mediterranean fueling spot, sparing Russia's warships the trip back to their Black Sea bases through straits in Turkey, a NATO member.
-
My two cents:
Big loss for Russia and Iran which is good for US obviously.
Gain for Israel MAYBE given the weakening of Iran, Assad, Hezbollah; however, unclear what the new regime brings.
Gain for Lebanon: freed up from Iran, Hezbollah, Syria stranglehold. Better for Maronite Christians and Sunni Muslims in Lebanon and independence from foreign powers.
Unclear to me what this means for Turkey.
Probably a net gain for Egypt and Jordan (Sunni alliance and less Muslim Brotherhood type refugees)
but this all depends on what kind of regime emerges:
Is it more of an ISIS type regime? (bad)
Is it a decently run more reformist regime like the original population segments who opposed Assad? (good)
But VERY HAPPY Assad is gone. He has made Netanyahu look like a saint and there has been nonstop talk about Netanyahu and hardly any mention of Assad lately.
Who knows?

Interesting article. I am trying to think about what it says. It basically tolerates Assad’s legacy (despite his terror and 5,000,000 Syrians having fled under his terror, or in refugee camps within the Syrian borders). BUT its point is that the new regime may be a Sunni ISIS terrorist type government that will be as bad or worse (e.g., impact on Christians and Shiites in both Lebanon and Syria). That is a valid fear, and time will tell.
We need to give our prayers to the hope that the new government will see the light and “go high”.
But just the same GOOD RIDDANCE to Assad and his Russian and Iranian sponsors!
By the way, having been in Damascus YEARS AGO, I would say that Syrians are very Arabic with very attractive genes. The men are well build, definite bodybuilding genes. That contrast with the Jordanians to the south of Syria who are skinnier types (Bedouin).

Oh boo hoo cannot shed one tear for that guy and nobody should. Worse than the fentanyl guys in Mexico plus more dislocation of Syrians in the last 15 years than any place in the world.
The relationship of the new regime to Russia will be interesting to watch. But there won’t be any relationship between the new regime and Iran. They are on completely different sides of the spectrum. Although there is no telling or predicting in today’s world.

He is not looking for sympathy. As I explained he never really wanted to be the leader of Syria. He wants to take care of his wife.
Will the new Syrian regime be immune to hypersonic missiles? It sounds like this new puppet regime will be a friend of Israel and enemy of Iran. Well, that makes them prime targets for hypersonic missiles. This new regime can be removed just as easily as the one they replaced.
I do think Russia and Iran should seriously keep Turkey at a distance. That is probably what NATO wanted though.
Russia and Iran should immediately replace the Syrian regime if it becomes clear they are acting against their best interests. It should not be that hard to take them out.

lmao. Maybe, maybe not. Look at a map. Russia has all the land and resources they need. Syria is a strategic location. If this new Syrian puppet regime makes live hard for Russia and Iran they should be taken out.

They have their work cut out for themselves:
In one breath here we are saying,
“They are puppets of Israel and Israel has been supportive of this shift.”
In the next breath:
“Because they are ISIS type radicals (we don’t know that for sure), they (and especially the people they represent) will want Gaza liberated and Israel destroyed.”
Which is it or will it be? Who knows! But Israel is only one piece of the puzzle they will be dealing with.
Egypt and Jordan and especially Lebanon may encourage radical Syrian refugees in their midst to go back home.
Iraq (recently leaning Iran’s way) may not be happy with the new Syria.
If they don’t get too crazy, Saudi Arabia and Gulf States will cut them slack and wait and see. Those countries are deeply conservative Sunni based dictatorships who don’t have any fond feelings toward Iran and who go somewhat back and forth between US and Russia (mainly lean US).
Cannot figure Turkey out on all this. Turkey has been controlling one of the occupation zones inside Assad’s Syria. The Kurds have been controlling another. Will these occupation zones persist or will they fold into the new regime? Turkey is adamantly opposed to the Kurds.

Oh since Russia and Iran cannot seem to impact Israel in any way, they should now shift their attention toward sending missiles into Syria because their puppet has been dislodged??? I would not recommend to those great nations that they put you on any advisory committees.

An Israeli military incursion into Syria has reached about 25 km (16 miles) southwest of Damascus, Syrian security sources said on Tuesday, after Israel seized a buffer zone in southern Syria and launched air strikes on Syrian army and air bases overnight.
I think if Turkey has designs on Syrian territory, then they should advance their troops too so they can claim whatever lands they wanted. It will probably end up a "first come first served" situation.

Israel is always the headline grabber but the real upcoming action may be the ex-ISIS, Turkey, Kurd scenarios now that Assad and Iran are moved to the side.
The bottom line: a huge portion of the rebels now moving into the forefront are ex-ISIS. Will their new leader keep them in line?
The ISIS angle terrifies Turkey. Turkey has waged war against ISIS along with the rest of us. And we won (well oops, now some of them may be unleashed again).
But Turkey especially hates the Kurds (our US allies in Iraq as well as torn-up Syria)! The new leader of Syria also is indicating he has no use for the Kurds. Kurds, by the way, have ISIS folks in refugee camps under their control in one of the break-away sections of Syria. How is the new leader going to handle that, for example?
Guarantee Erdogan is on the phone with the new leader. Maybe he will influence him in a more moderate direction. He definitely will be advocating against the Kurds.

Exactly my point. The world (including Israel as you point out) looked away from Assad. His crimes, to a large extent, created ISIS which existed inside Syria more than anywhere else. The US looked away and the world, of course, focused on Israel’s sins and felt Syria was too complicated to figure out.
Israel has its own evils it is dealing with but the Syria thing really has very little to do with Israel, other than Iran before it has been weakened, was a huge threat to the people of both nations.
-

the USA is funding Israel and sees it as one of its biggest allies.,
In total, the United States spent $17.9 billion on military aid to Israel from October 2023 to October 2024, a record for a single year, as estimated by the Costs of War Project at Brown University.
-
You are correct, the “world at large” in my prior post does not include the US. We have stood by Israel and looked away from their sins. The US and everybody else except for Russia and Iran have looked away from Syria’s sins (far worse, but that is just one man’s opinion). Too complex and complicated and then ISIS complicated the equation.

Tell that to the people in Aleppo or Homs (his own citizens) if you are talking about Assad. More than 5,000,000 Syrians (many of the radicalized now) have had to flee their nation. The population of Syria is 25,000,000.

I don’t have the experience you do. I live in an area of my urban area where there are lots of Palestinians and they feel VERY STRONGLY about Gaza but they are hard workers and mostly pretty well assimilated which we may do better in US than you do in UK.
I was in Egypt not too long ago and they (fellow Arabs to the Syrians) complained A LOT about the radical Syrians they received in last 10 years. I am not close enough to the situation, but I think Arab Spring decent Syrians may have started out decent, and then become Islamic State types during the Civil War (which as you know I blame Assad for).
The problem for the new leadership is there is a huge population of exactly those radical types still in Syria.

a peaceful Muslim will side with a radical Muslim before a non-muslim.
Never forget that.

I have not had the privelege of meeting a Kurd, nor do I know anything about their hygiene. There are probably Kurdish bodybuilders but none come to the surface. All I know is that they detested Saddam Hussein (many are Iraqis), detest ISIS, so the US government tends to love them and put them in charge of things. Turkey, of course, hates them.

I miss the days where we didn't have to have diplomas in geopolitics due to Western politicians bringing the World and their problems to our doorstep. YES, the 3-letter agencies in US/UK/EU meddled and did their dirty business; but they didn't let it spill over into betraying their own people by dragging their shit back home after an operation. Now, it's as if they can't wait to cause more havoc abroad so that more of the World's needy need a place to sleep. Very selfish way of looking at it, but it's just so tiresome.
I get that this latest Syria stuff is being paraded around as a Russia/Israel/Turkey angle yet not too long ago, the long arm of the West was playing pissing contests with the area over who cares what

Part of lockdowns was getting people familiar with a cashless society and they already have pretty much a cashless society and they were not controlled by NATO, they joined NATO in March this year.

Listened today in the news that there is a mass exodus of syrians, back to Syria, now that the tall guy runned away.
Good news.
Wish there were some good statistics on what proportion of the escapees/refugees during last 11 years are decent Democratic types who rose up against Assad in good conscience versus hard-core ISIS radicalized types. Some Syrian refugees may be a bit of both. And what proportion of each will decide to return. In Egypt, I not long ago heard a fair amount of complaints about the Syrians who came there and tended to vote with the radical Muslim Brotherhood, and those of you getbiggers in UK or Sweden, for example, don’t have too many compliments. You would love to see the less desirables go home. But the nation actually needs the more desirables to go home and help rebuild the nation.
On another note, Israel is up to its same old tricks. But for the world at large, it may be a huge blessing to not have strong military capabilities within Syria given how volatile everything is there. On this one, may be best to just close our eyes somewhat.

Come on, it may be the case that not all of these sources below are reliable, but some of them certainly are. On a related chemical note, within the last 2 to 3 years Assad was keeping his foreign reserves up by being a recreational drug manufacturer and supplier, a drug not familiar with in U.S. or Europe but used in Saudi and Gulf States.

Maybe the news team should check out their sources more thoroughly.
You would expect people with scared throats and breathing difficulties in an area that had a chlorine bomb dropped on it, and maybe find some people who had injuries instead of just spewing out unsubstantiated propaganda.

They think people will just watch something and believe it, and 99% of the people will, thats why they dont bother trying,
I agree media these days is biased and generally shit with a political bias in various directions depending on which one you listen to. I especially hate written articles called ANAYSIS which pretend to be reporting but are just that writer’s biased opinion. No disagreement on any of that. And stay away from television news, it sucks and is overly melodramatic.
