makes it a different movement though.
with incline curls, the incline need not be too low- i usually work 1-2 notches below 90 degrees. What also might be bothering your shoulder is lack of warmups, i've always suffered when I haven't warmed up for these correctly.
Tips: Keep the arms supinated to maintain tension on the biceps. Make sure to get a full stretch. Do both arms at the same time.

I fell victim to both of these. I don't really do much direct bi work, and when i do its just normally 3-4 sets of BB curls.
So i gave these a go, and set the incline to low, which made it feel "weird". And i did these as my starting exercise. Also went a bit too heavy. My bi's were killing me for about 5 days. I rarely do them now.
But i've since learnt that they should be done as the middle or finishing exercise and to keep the bench fairly upright.
