try doing them on an incline bench with your stomach to the bench, so your arms are hangin down behind the back of the pad.  much better isolation, takes the front delts out completely.

makes it a different movement though.

with incline curls, the incline need not be too low- i usually work 1-2 notches below 90 degrees. What also might be bothering your shoulder is lack of warmups, i've always suffered when I haven't warmed up for these correctly.

Tips: Keep the arms supinated to maintain tension on the biceps. Make sure to get a full stretch. Do both arms at the same time.

Ya, I'd agree with this. I find it better to use a little cheating at the beginning, just like doing standing cheat curls. In both cases the cheat at the beginning takes most of the shoulders out of it. Also find that it's good to twist the wrists so that the palms are facing together at the bottom and facing away from you in standard fashion at the top.

This gives the biceps a maximum stretch, as opposed to the regular way of palms up and down. If anyone feels their shoulders are playing too much of a part, consciously try to keep your elbows just a little bit behind your side, so your rear delts are pulling them back and keeping your front delts out of it. If done correctly, it isolates the biceps alot more.

Good points here.

I fell victim to both of these. I don't really do much direct bi work, and when i do its just normally 3-4 sets of BB curls.

So i gave these a go, and set the incline to low, which made it feel "weird". And i did these as my starting exercise. Also went a bit too heavy. My bi's were killing me for about 5 days. I rarely do them now.

But i've since learnt that they should be done as the middle or finishing exercise and to keep the bench fairly upright.
No doubt about it...

i never do regular incline curls..i feel them in more in my shoulders than in my biceps (but if you have never done them...you will probably get really sore in the biceps the first time tho). my suggestion is to use a preacher curl bench and sit facing the other way and dig your elbows into the pad. makes the movement more strict, the last few reps you can arch your back a bit but keep the elbows plastered to the pad.

I personally think the key with these is not letting your ego get in the way. I see guys "doing" these all the times with way too much weight & they're swinging their arms forward as the curl. I like to wait until near the end & just use lightier weight(s) with more control.

good point. i think thats the key on most every exercise and although its common knowledge that form should always come before ego i rarely see guys taking this bodybuildin 101 principle to heart.   and coincidentally i rarely see guys with good muscle shape.

True but with Incline Curls I find you can lose the form quickly & flail your arms about while "doing" them. It's one thing to be doing standing curls with the 40lb dumbbells but you should probably think of using the 25's for incline curls.
