Boxing has far less real-life-applicable rules than MMA, since a boxer in a street fight would require the other person to stay stood up and not do any kicks, wrestling, etc etc. Even street brawls go to the ground most of the time.

To point out Tyson would fight dirty and bite your nuts does nothing for your Boxing vs MMA argument, in fact it simply highlights how worthless Tyson's boxing ability would be if he fought say...Fedor or Brock or whoever.

Tyson could have the best stand up of all time and it would still only form 1/3 of a good mma fighter. Guys like Phil Baroni had great standup (nowhere near Tyson of course) but got destroyed by the guys with no stand up and great wrestling. The majority of fights go to the ground. So the majority of fights Tyson wouldn't be able to use his boxing.

Yes he might get lucky against a few fighters too stupid to just take him down straight away. But even strike-orientated UFC guys like Chuck Liddell had great takedown defenses which allowed him to stay on his feet. If you can prove Tyson could prevent getting knocked on his back then you'd have a point.

Boxing stance with hands up protecting your head =  awful takedown defenses = all the boxing ability in the world can't save you from a good wrestler or ju-jitsu assault. Unless you get lucky in the first 20 seconds of every fight, hardly a bankable strategy.

I have no idea what you are replying to here? I clearly stated that grappling predominates in the UFC. I said absolutley nothing about a single art guy having success in mma. The midget was trying to make out that a fighters fluidity and athletacism goes out of the window because of the differing ruleset, which clearly isn't the case because there are a score of guys at the top of the sport with very good stand up technique.

As has been stated before, amateur boxing stance is one of a myriad of different styles utilised in boxing. James Toney philly shell, no footwork all upper body movement = bad striking base for mma. Roy Jones Unorthodox style based on speed/power = good striking base for mma.


Mike would do nothing in mma, apart from win by very early knockout/get taken down with ease and either G'n'P or subbed in the first round. Mike always had trouble in clinches, it was how Holyfield and Lewis controlled him. Given his athletacism and explosiveness, he is always very dangerous but how well he would pick up grappling who knows. All the training in the world isn't going to surpass natural limitations. Brock and his striking is a good example. Badr hari is a very explosive guy and he got subbbed out very quickly, so.... Some guys would crossover well, some not well at all.

Boxing is still huge, bigger than mma worldwide. mma is the UFC, it is only really big in North America.

Who knows, Goldenboy seems to be looking to centralise and copy the ufc template, which may build Boxing again to what it was in the seventies/eighties or mma may keep rising and truly surpass it.

Until the pay disparity is evened out no world class boxer in their prime is going to cross over.

UFc it still in its "begining" phases I think. A world wide expansion would be possible in the future. Maby keeping the UFC as One thing.
