I thought it was funny, the monologue is hilarious.

Actually the making of that is on the DVD is even better than the movie. 

btw, I'm as huge of a Van Damme fan that you'll find but even i agree that the monologue in JCVD was a bit much

The fun thing is, this wasn't even in the script, he just said sth like "let me do it" and did it in one take. What you see there is JCVD in his pure essence.
