"Soccer" is not really promoted in the US because you can't interrupt it with Geico commercials every 3 minutes. It's two half's of 45 minutes. Try to do 45 minutes in the US without commercials ....
Otherwise the World Cup finals have about 20 times the audience of the "Superbowl" which is the yearly finals of "American Football".
BTW: the American "football" is not really a ball and you don't use your feet either.
