Let me give you tough love, first of all you do not have self control or drive if you did you would not have 20lbs of fat in the first place, being in shape is for disciplined people only. forget about drugs and pills and do cardio and get on a diet, brown rice, steel cut oats, lot of fiber and no carbs in the last meal of the day.
The sticks are tricky at first, but experiment with them and pay attention to reaction then you will have it down pat, most people are like, "these stupid sticks don't work" but you'll get the hang of it, hard to explain.
I never got the sticks to register anything other than 'trace'. I was on 20gm> of carbs a day...was using Lyle's CKD protocol. Loved it. I would drink a shit load of water during the day...talking 1 - 1.5 gallons. So, I theorize that my urine was very dilute and thus the ketones just didnt register. I hold myself now about 80 - 100gm of carbs a day....if I dropped my carbs...all I would do is replace the cals with fat. Someone earlier wanted to lower fat to get into ketosis....from all I have read (and have done) thats not quite the optimal approach. Sure, your AA's are either glucogenic or ketogenic....the fatty acids from fat break down are then converted to ketone bodies (FA to Acetyl CoA to Ketone bodies...etc etc etc)...much more optimal...would you not think?
No that's not what he was getting at, he was indicating since you are already in full fat burning mode dropping fat intake equals more loss from a calorie deficit and it's true in a no carb diet 100 grams a fat a day is a lot faster at dropping bodyfat then consuming 200 grams of fat a day.As far as your carb intake goes I would suspect up to a certain point there may not be a difference between a no carb diet vs a 100gram carb diet but only until a certain stage, say 8% (everyone is different) then after this point that 100 grams of carbs will hinder your progess, maybe not hault it completely but it would be faster without the carbs at this point. If your fat intake is to high, it will hinder the ketones sticks, your fluid intake aswell, you shouldn't test at the same time of day everyday and you also have to be 2 to 3 weeks into a consistent diet to get a consistent reading.
