As far as I am concerned Sherman gets the approval.

I am reading his posts and am thankful that there is actually still some intelligent bodybuilders of the old guard still out there.
Thank you sir, you are far too kind

it doesn't matter, your come back is welcomed but doomed to fail!

the IFBB no longer recognizes or promotes your kind of build.

Very disheartening.  Has anyone ever called you"the bearer of bad news"? If I had've taken negative comments like that to heart, I would have never turned pro and had the success that I did. Thanks for your opinion, but, I think that I will take a more positive outlook on the subject if I do decide that a return is on the horizon.

John, we here at getbig love a good story. Can you give us some context about how this pic came together.

looks like your legs are crossed in a dance stance or something
I believe that was the year that Chris was preparing for the USA(he did win).  No dance, just had legs crossed.  Those were good times.  We were all pretty close then.  Don't know what happend after that.  Everyone went their separate ways .

Point taken, Sir. I was there and didn't agree with quite a bit of the shows outcome.

John is Shawn Ray as big a bore in real life as he is online?
Sorry dude, you can never get me to say anything bad Shawn Ray.  He was whom I patterned my physique and posing after.  Also, anytime that we have met, he was always as cool as fan.  He gets nothing but respect from me.  SORRY

Trust me, if I had more I would gladly post them.  When I got food poisoning @ the Europa a few years back, I figured that it was time to close the book on this chapter of my life(so,I tossed them, along with most of my trophies and medals) .  But, it seems as if everywhere I turned I saw signs that maybe my decision was somewhat premature. I have been still heavily involved in the sport(Promoting my contest and training others competitors)  This year I had the opportunity to attend the Olympia(something that I told myself that I would never do unless I was on stage myself).  Had a great time, saw lots of old friends and a fire that hasn't been there for a minute was lit.  Currently, tossing around the idea of getting back up there and deciding which shows I should participate in.  When I have new pics, I will most definitely post them.

John, I remember your posing routine from the ('01?) Ironman, one of the best I've seen.  You were totally overlooked at that show.

You're mistaken. Dillet won his pro card earlier in the year at the North American. Guess who trained him?  ;D That's right, the same guy who got Flex, Duffy, and John their pro cards in '92 as well.   :o
Very impressive.  You are very well versed in the history of our sport. Obviously you and Joe are pretty close.  When you see Joe, tell him that there is more money to be made. All the groundwork as been layed. Let's get it done! Step up and finish what we started.

A "closer to reality" picture of John's front double bi that I found by searching Yahoo Images. Sorry, John.  ;D  Still impressive, nonetheless.

That's alot of muscle to work with there.  And even though he's not as tight there, the muscles still have that quality, tight sort of look that hint at just how chiseled that shit could get, if you ask me.  That physique's capable of doing alot of hard work in a relatively short amount of time.

Sorry for what?  That's a 2001 off season shot(photographer was Ralph DeHaan), I look like that now(actually, a little tighter) and haven't competed in years.  Compared to the offseason shape of the guys that I have seen that compete today, "closer to reality" looks pretty good(did you notice that there is no distended stomach).  I'm a little confused, should I add you to the short list of haters that I have or not? You build me up, then you stick your leg out an attempt to trip me. ;D. Oh well, CARDIO TIME!!

For the life of me, I can't understand why Melvin Anthony has not contacted Joe McNeal. He had a great track record, and especially with Dex as well. Since Mel has has the same type of physique as John and Flex, it would stand to reason that Joe could get Mel in better shape than "I take your kidneys" Chad.

Yes, I was aware that Joe worked with Flex. That was the reason behind my comment of "After placing second to Flex at the USA, I know for certain that is why Duffy contacted Joe". Again I said I assumed you had done the same knowing that Joe trained Flex.

Regarding that show, I do have the video of it. In my opinion, it was Flex and then everyone else. The emcee makes no mention of it being a single point decision whatsoever. I'm sure if I pressed the issue I could get JM to dig up the scoresheets and provide a fax. Regardless, you both looked great but on that day it was Flex head and shoulders above the rest (his competitive career as a whole should help that understanding be clearer).

Also, wasn't there a big stink by some current professionals at the time when the NPC News mag came out with Flex winning the USA? I believe the headline on the cover stated "Flex Wheeler's Win Makes Pros Shudder", or something along those lines. I guess some of the more "sensitive" pros thought that was a disrespectful comment. Unfortunately, their argument held water for only about 12 weeks until Flex's 4 straight win streak began at the IronMan in Feb of '93.

Irrespective of all of this, yes, a "best-ever" comeback would certainly be in order here. I have a feeling that maybe if you pressed Joe a little bit more, you may be able to turn the tide slightly.  ;) If not, I know of a "Plan B" that would definitely be in your best interests.
To clear the air on the statement that you made in regards to Flex's competitve career as a whole should help the understanding be clearer.  A bit of info about me that maybe you didn't know.  Bodybuilding was never the vehicle that I used to keep food on my table. Mainly, the sport has been a hobby that I enjoyed.  I have always, and will always have other things going on outside of the sport that I can depend on. With this sport, you're hot today, you're not tomorrow  When I obtained my pro card, I was very naive in the way things were done in our sport.  I didn't know that you had to nurture certain relationships, be scene in certain places, and do who knows what in order to make it.  I actually believed that if an athlete represented a company, that he actually used their products(imagine my surprise when reality set in).  I thought that it was all based on who worked the hardest, not who had access to the largest chemistry set or who you knew that could help you get where you wanted to go. I hope that you can get a clearer understanding of where I'm coming from.  If I had have played the geme, the way that the game is played, there wouldn't be such a vast difference in our careers.  Not offended by your statements, I just realize that unless you actually step foot on that stage and see what the guys go through, you can never really understand. I have been on both ends of the spectrum, so, I'm sure that I have a much clearer picture than you do.

John, with all due respect. I am going to ask this question delicately.  You say that you are about the same size, I would assume that you kept using the "supplements". Why use "creatine" if you are not competing?

also since the IFBB has no love for the aesthetic builds would you consider the PDI?
