AB bench is effective. Not essential but it's good; something like doing situps holding some extra weight but easier on the back.

Not to be critical but.....That pulley device looks way too small to handle any heavy load that going to work the abs like they should be worked. Is that a cord or light cable used? Ten year warranty or not, that ab bench looks poorly designed. As is the way the plate(s) is loaded on  the end of the cord/rope/cable.

The abs themselves are a very powerfull short range muscle group. When a challenging weight load is used, the knee's or ankles may need support else the legs/hips raise up. There is no support or brace built into the ab bench for the lower body (knee's, legs or ankles). You could lay a 45 lbs plate (or BB/DB) on the lap, but if your paying that much for the bench I would think you would want the better designed ab bench for the bucks invested.

By the looks of it, the ab's are not pre-stretch as the add suggest, from the starting position. And will that strap, held the way in the photo, dig into the neck/traps if heavier weight is actually used. If you belong to a gym than you could get very positive results by using a lat machine (or cable) and preform a simlar movement with better results. That is what that ab bench is trying to copy. Make up you own mind though. If it suits you training need than do what you think best for you. Good Luck.

I'll take the high road here, to set an example. No JPM-style hissy fits or jealousy-fueled rages. Those ab machines are very simple, are solid and use standard aircraft cable made to handle hundreds of pounds more weight than this lil thing ever will working abs. ::)

This unit is better
Different motions-that one's more of a crunch, the other closer to a situp. With something like this time has to be taken to physically try them out at stores to gauge effectiveness.

The first one does have the advantage over weights of offering constant tension. It's a good machine; whether it's worth the extra space and $ is subjective.

The second photo (machine) is more of a pivet/leverage type of strength curve involvement. Hard to tell if 90 degrees is the top ROM. Any situp  motion will have the element of a 'crunch' at the starting point. Actually a full range standard situp would not be required to work the upper/middle ab's hard, if a proper work load was used. Too much wasted time repping out 50-100 reps or more doing weightless crunches. Set's of 10-20's, with heavy resistence, can accomplish most trainee's needs.

That second machine shows no brace or support for the lower body (hips, legs, ankles). Of course most of the tension on the abs will be lost when the subject reaches the 90 degree angle. As BigjoeX suggest, doing decline situp (with added weight may) be more effected when working the ab's to their fullest, then both of these machines put together. Either way, both of the machines do not shown thought out design or function. Appears to be just another fitness gimmick (among too many) to part people from their money. Good Luck.

I received my ab bench.

It's a great bench for working abs with weight.

It's not essential, but it's a +.

I recommend it.
