marijuana
« on: October 26, 2006, 08:17:05 PM »
i saw a post about drinking and how it affects bodybuilding so i wanted to know how does smoking weed affect bodybuilding? i smoke just about every day after my workouts and sometimes before and i think its awesome. nothing feels better than smoking after an awesome workout! the munchies also help me consume my daily protein. even though i do it every day i do not see it affecting my workouts negatively at all. i guess that answers my question right there but anybody have any opinions on this?

If you can puff doobies twice a day and still be motivated enought to lift like an animal, then more power to you, but I seriously suspect that  pot decreases your drive and motivation even if you do not realize it.  Try taking 2 weeks off the bong and see if your intensity in the gym goes up.  This was the case for me and I use to be a huge stoner. 3-4 times a day.  I quit cold turkey because of my girlfriend and I started making crazy gains in the weight room.

;D  I am a pothead.  3 to 4 times a day.  Not all out stoned to the bone but just about 3-4 hits at a time.  Anyway smoking before the gym is a wasted trip if you plan on lifting heavy.  At least for me.  Now for a planned cardio session right behind some hottie and a newly downloaded mp3 list a few bong tokes are in order.  But If you work hard you shouldnt be stoned or horny by the end anyway.

There's no way that daily or regular use doesn't have adverse effects. Regular users should use a vaporizer.

I go to the gym soo high sometimes that the forced paranoia makes it easy to stay away from others and just get down to lifting...plus you feel the pump sooo much better. . . I smoke like a blunt a day but I put it out after four to five hits cause I get that high grade hippie stuff... Its not for everyone though ...

Nodeal is my best friend and he has a great vaporizer which gets us fucked up!! Along with it being the ultimate healthy alternative, it also saves us a lot of weed and money! I think I speak for us both in recommending all regular users buy one! Eric, which website did you get yours?

That's pretty interesting. I've only trained while high a few times and I've only either felt no different or indirectly focused on my training. If it helps your training then I support your pre-workout blunts!

Tried working out high a couple of times; had a negative effect on intensity.

Vaporizers are healthier, more intense & cheaper; Fran Dresser's a regular user:

ive smoked before the gym on numerous occassions. sometimes it has no effect on my workout sometimes, other times it decreases my drive and motivation and enthusiasm a little bit but thats ONLY if i get very burnt. i would never smoke before a leg workout though.

i smoke EVERY day...no exaggeration at all....ask figgs. but i train hard and i always push myself in my workouts...figgs can also back that up. i do believe that weed has no negative effects on my workouts in general, just on specific days if i happen to smoke too much or if im already tired and then get burnt it will make an impact on my workout a little. but besides that i would think that weed actually affects my workouts positively because of the reward factor. smoking after a good workout is AMAZING. the rush of endorphines combined with good old thc is one of the greatest feelings. everyone give it a shot. any arguments on this?

I'm all for it, but accept that it's affecting at the very least the lungs with daily smoking. For a heavy user (daily) a vaporizer or eating it as cannabutter makes more sense plus the buzz is more intense.

Chong is certainly something of an authority on marijuana, having been a friend of the weed for the past 40 years. A unique dimension of Chong's interest in marijuana is his belief that "pot and working out go hand in hand." Toward this end, he has been developing a workout video titled "A Doper's Guide to Fitness." As Chong explains it: "If you're gonna party, you gotta be in shape. If you're in shape, you can do everything once."

Chong observed that he has been lifting weights and seriously working out longer than he's been smoking dope.

you dudes smoke too much

afoaf told me that if you take 2 weeks off from smoking, then smoke right before working out, you will set PRs in all your lifts

maybe it was just the PR fairy talking.

yeah i dont like doing it before the gym either. mainly because of the fact that once i get into my workout it kills my high immediately. by the end of my workout i dont feel like i smoked at all. it seems like a waste to smoke before a workout just to have your high killed by the intensity of lifting.

estrogen increase suspected plus determination. Would you smoke before a title fight. Approach all as the end then you can chase what youre after

very good point. although i wouldnt agree with the estrogen increase i would agree with the point you made about looking at my workout as a title fight, a championship. but i usually smoke before an easy workout such as shoulders or arms. just yesterdayy i smoked a couple hours before my shoulder workout. i still had an AMAZING workout.
80 pound dumbbells shoudler pressed for 5 hard reps with a couple forced reps from my partner. then i burned them out with drop sets on the machine side laterals. the smoking did not hinder my workout whatsoever. but before a workout that was longer or harder i would not suggest smoking.
