Mr. Intensome...why does Venice/LA suck?
« on: November 01, 2006, 06:56:21 AM »
I was wondering what you don't like about Venice and LA.  I've never been there but I wanted to see what you didn't like or if you had any stories about Gold's and Venice.

Yeah, TRAFFIC!  and the whole "living in your past" syndrone.  Talk about a city thats living on nostalgia!  Venice is fun though, if you ever feel down or board go to the beach and you won't leave without a good laugh.  It's the greatest show on earth....FREAK SHOW!

Venice Beach on the weekend is great. Living in LA with the high rents, superficiality, cynicism and traffic not so great. :-\

Of course everyone has a demo tape of a head shot...It's LA...where they make movies.

Now, If everyone in Boise, Idaho were kickin around with those...I might find it a little strange.

It is sad to see what happened to Southern California. Used to be the most beautiflul place on earth. But greedy land developers raped the land, and the citizens did nothing about it. Orange County used to be great, Laguna beach used to be a great artist/gay town, but the Orange Groves are long gone now its all new rich with not an ounce of taste, seriously, you will see some of the ugliest people there. The same happened to Venice and many other communities. The new rich ruined it, they have no taste and could care less about the environment. The last piece of ocean front land at Dana Point in Southern Callifornia has been sold and currently being bulldozed. They are even marketing as the "last piece of ocean front land". Disgusting.  And Arnold is doing nothing to save any of the remaining land, he talked a big game but isn't going to do much. He is not an environmentalist, just a Republican.

The last time I was in LA was last year (I live in OC) but I grew up in the LA area, but when I went back it was a shithole. We went to Venice to show my fiance' Golds, was no big thing, but the surroundings just felt dirty, the beaches I felt were the same way. Then we went to Hollywood...even worse, dirty, streets smelled like pee, just not taken care of, about 20-25 years ago Hollywood was kind of a cool place but now it just reaks of filth and just about every suberb within a 15-20 radius of LA, is just flat out filthy. The traffic is horrible, even on a weekend and the place just felt and for the most part is unsafe.....bottomline, I couldn't wait to get home to nice quiet little beach home!

True about those places but you can’t deny there are also some gorgeous neighborhoods, in LA county such as Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Palos Verdes, Malibu and others.

Orange county has some pretty creepy neighborhoods such as parts of Santa Ana, Westminster and of course some VERY upscale and beautiful neighborhoods.

Mainly down on Santa Monica Blvd. We had my son with us and I had to get off that street QUICK!!

What about Laguna Beach and 2nd street in Long Beach? Pretty gay neighborhoods. Okay Long Beach is technically LA County but pretty close to your neighborhood.
and keep moving!

I was referring to how obviously flamboyant they are down on Santa Monica Blvd. Not so much if at all are they like that down on 2nd st. or Laguna Beach, they don't sex stores with dildos in the windows for decoration or TS crossdressing maniquins :-\!!

the problem with Venice is the same problem with Hollywood, West Hollywood, New York City, Miami Beach, and dozens of other places around the country:  gentrification.    People with disposable income move into depressed but funky neighborhoods, fix it up, then sell it for a huge profit.  The people who were there first, who gave the neighborhood its character, and who usually were renters, can no longer afford to live there.  Venice is filled with million dollar condos.  Same with Hollywood.  Even downtown LA is being gentrified.

If you want white suburban living, move to OC.   If you want cosmopolitan urban living, move to LA.

nycbull,

I live right up the street from that "last piece of ocean front land at Dana Point" and everytime I look in that direction I cry. I spent many years going up and down those 100plus steps to that great beach cove. Disgusting-yes!!
